Book of memories {giveaway}

Lots of fun little projects have been going on lately, including:

the Pinterest-inspired photo wall for upstairs

pictures

(collecting frames in various textures, all in the same color family and picking up photo orders from Walgreens)

and Liv’s baby book.

 ruby love

It took me a LONG time to order a baby book, because I couldn’t find the one I created in my mind (don’t you hate when that happens?). I didn’t want it to all be entirely digital, then clicking “publish/save” and having it sent to the house. I wanted it to be more personal, organized so I wouldn’t have to scrapbook the entire thing, enable me to write (in my own, messy chicken scratch) and attach photos.

This is exactly the baby book I had in mind:

baby book4

I ordered the book from Ruby Love on Etsy (they also have a website) and was able to pick out the cover fabric, color scheme and what features I wanted the book to include.

It’s perfect.

All of the basic info is there, plus unique questions for the parents to fill out

baby book

the ability to attach photos (with 24 photo-mounting sheets included)

baby book3

Lots of room to write

baby book2

calendar pages with stickers for milestones

calendar stickers

and an entire back section of blank scrapbook pages.

scrapbook pages

It’s perfect.

I add a little bit to it every day, and can’t wait to start filling up the blank pages in the back. A scrapbook project I can actually look forward to… before, the only scrapbook pages I’ve made have been for my husband and the single guys deploying.

I ordered and paid for the book, but after receiving it and discovering how truly amazing it is, I contacted the seller to see if she would be interested in offering a giveaway. I was so excited when she said yes- this would be perfect for an expecting mama or as a gift.

One lucky winner will receive a custom Ruby Love baby book of their choice. All you have to do is leave a heartfelt or funny memory from when you were a child. I can’t wait to read these 🙂

I’ll pick the winner Friday night (11:59pm EST) and announce it in Saturday’s family post.

xoxo

Gina

One of my best memories as a child was when we would go to Disney World on family vacations. I always got one of those autograph books and I would drag my parents around the park to get all the princesse’s (my favorites!) autographs. I was so in awe of those girls…….

Olivia next to the Pilot’s books is a tear jerker! So beautiful!

I don’t have a baby so don’t need to be entered in the giveaway! Good luck to all!

Ahhh!!! I would love to have this for my baby girl who is due early September!!! One of my best memories as a child is getting up every Sunday morning to sneak out of the house with my dad for a special daddy daughter breakfast date so my mom could sleep in…. We did this from the time I was very young until the time that I was 16 and my dad moved away. I will always treasure our breakfast trips to the coffee shop.

I don’t actually remember this, but my mom likes to tell me every time we start telling baby stories. When I was 3 in daycare, my teacher asked me what my name was, and I replied “Heather.” She then asked me if I wanted to be called something else and I responded, “Well, my name is Heather, but Mommy calls me Little Shit.” My teacher was mortified and called my mom right away because I used a “naughty word.” My mom never called me “little shit” after that. My grandpa also has a potty mouth and would always swear in front of me. Of course, I didn’t really *know* what swearing was and that it was bad, so I would say the things he said. The first time I said “piss and moan” in front of my grandparents, my grandpa never swore again. Even to this day, not a single cuss word.

I love this book, it will be much easier to use than my other books now that the time I get to write in each one is less and less…..Hmmm, funny memory from childhood? Well, I was the oldest of 4 and often my mom doubled up bath times. When my sister (the youngest) was still in diapers, I was taking a bath with her and we were playing with numerous bath toys when up pops a toy I have not seen before. Turns out, it was poop! My little sister pooped in our bath. I took showers after that! 😉

One of my favorite memories is spending time playing childhood game with my sister and our neighbors around the neighborhood. From hide and go seek to our very own “gymnastic olympics”, it makes me smile to think how the simple things in life were enough for us. Forget technology, we had a trampoline. Forget phones, I’ll run down the road and knock on your door. Forget video games, I can play street hockey right in the driveway! Oh the good ol’ days 🙂

I always laugh when I remember filming goofy home videos with my brother and sister when we were younger…we would write down what we wanted to say and play music in the background and do crazy stunts!

  9. Tracey on May 17, 2012 at 12:10 pm

One of my favorite memories from childhood was watching Saturday morning cartoons with my twin brother. My dad would build a fort around the TV the night before, so it was always exciting to wake up and check out the fort and watch cartoons. This was by design, of course…because it bought my parents an extra hour or so to sleep in! 😀

  10. Meghan on May 17, 2012 at 12:10 pm

I have someone in mind that this would a PERFECT gift for! 🙂

When I was young my family still used the word parlor instead of living room (do people still use that?), but I could not pronounce it correctly at all. So every time I told a story that took place in our living room, I made people think we had a prowler in our house. 🙂

One of my favorite memories is being reunited in Japan with my Air Force Father after he served 2 tours in Vietnam. I can still remember how proud and happy I was to see him.

one of my favorite childhood memories is from a family vacation in st thomas. we all piled into a big taxi van to head to a restaurant and kokomo by the beach boys came on the radio. we all sang along and laughed the whole way. to this day that song still reminds me of that specific memory.

  13. mountain girl heidi on May 17, 2012 at 12:16 pm

My younger childhood years were spent on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. We had 5 acres of land, and it offered some amazing opportunities for fun. My dad built us a zipline (the slidey thing) across our yard, and my brother and I spent countless hours using our imaginations to have all kinds of adventures.

  14. Taylor on May 17, 2012 at 12:16 pm

My favorite childhood memories are all the times we spent dancing and singing while my little brother and I were growing up! We would listen to music for HOURS! Loved that!

  15. JennyO on May 17, 2012 at 12:16 pm

My favorite memory was playing school with my older sister, even though I was always the student and never the teacher.

  16. Aurora Sheridan on May 17, 2012 at 12:19 pm

This is a great book! I love what you have done from what we can see =) This is another bathtime story, I have 2 younger twin sisters and my dad was giving us all a bath when yep, one of my sisters pooped in the tub and it was like a bath evacuation. Everyone out and my dad was mad I remember! Haha.

  17. Laura J on May 17, 2012 at 12:20 pm

One of the funniest memories I have from childhood is when my older brother and I got so scared by Jurassic Park that we slept in our treehouse for 3 nights so the T-Rex wouldn’t get us. LOL We had vivid imaginations.

  18. Heidi on May 17, 2012 at 12:21 pm

My favorite memory is playing outside with my siblings and best friends late into the summer evenings…then coming inside for icecream sundaes made by my mom!!!

  19. Julie M on May 17, 2012 at 12:21 pm

My favorite childhood memory is the vacation my parents took me on when I was 12. My dad took the entire month of July off of work (talk about old school benefits – he worked for IBM) and we packed into a (rented) Lincoln town car and drove 10,000 miles around the country. We saw 46 of the continental states on that trip missing only North Dakota and Louisiana.
My dad died 8 years ago and every time I think about this trip I’m reminded of how amazing he was and how thankful I am that we had a whole month of uninterrupted time together. They’re some of the most vivid memories I have.

  20. Samantha on May 17, 2012 at 12:21 pm

Oh my goodness, this is so unbelievably sweet, I got tears in my eyes just seeing those photos. The baby book my mom has for me is one of my most treasured items. I love going back every once in a while and reading through it. It’s so special to read all of those thoughts and emotions she was going through when we were too young to understand what was happening. My very best friend is pregnant with her first child and I would absolutely love to gift her this scrapbook.

A funny memory from when I was a child almost always includes my brother in some way: when I was around five, I was taking a bath in the tub, playing with my toys and having a grand time. Spiderman was huge at the time, but he scared me. My older brother, of course, loved it. So he dressed up as Spiderman, silently climbed to the top of the tub (we had a sliding door, not a curtain) and peeked his head over – scared the crap out of me! I don’t think I’ll ever forget that day.

  21. Bretta on May 17, 2012 at 12:22 pm

Not really a memory of mine, but memories my mom has passed down. When I was 3-4 I used some pretty funny words.
Instead of saying the word breakable, I would say “glassable.” Makes sense, doesn’t it? haha.
Instead of nipples I called them “nibbles”.
And one time my mom was chopping up some onions and I walked in and my eyes started tearing, and said, “Mommy I have froggies in my eyes!” No idea what that one means!

  22. Molly on May 17, 2012 at 12:22 pm

Ooh, this is gorgeous! I would love a book like this for my baby girl due in September.

My best childhood memories are from when we would go on camping trips. At home my older brothers would go off to their treehouse where girls were NOT allowed, but on camping trips we would all hike and play together.

  23. JennyV on May 17, 2012 at 12:23 pm

    Yep! Definitely need/want a book!

  24. Jen @nutcaseinpoint on May 17, 2012 at 12:24 pm

There are too many memories to choose from! I do always get a kick out of something my mom told me about the day I was born: I was adopted and my parents didn’t know they were getting me until I was actually in the process of making my way into the world. My mom was working in a Dr’s office across the street from the hospital, and my dad was over an hour away at his office in LA. She called my dad with the news and told him to hurry down. Of course, my dad being Mr. Prepared and Mr. Rational and a whole bunch of other Mr’s, he decided to first stop at the bank and start a savings account for me.

I’m glad to say I definitely inherited my business sense from my father, but there is no way I will be making a pit stop when I’m about to have a baby!

  25. Casey on May 17, 2012 at 12:25 pm

My best memory as a child was waking up Saturday morning and my Dad making us funny pancakes. He would make different charecters and we would eat together as a family and plan out our weekend!

  26. Haley on May 17, 2012 at 12:25 pm

I hear this story all the time from my family: When I was little, I was being a wee bit of a drama queen. My mom said something I did not like and I must have made a face. She said, “Haley, Are you sticking out your tongue at me?” And I replied, “NO! I’m sticking out my LIPS at you!” Whoo! Smart alec! Now whenever someone is being “smart” in our family, we say that they are “sticking out their lips” Hahaha!

  27. Taran on May 17, 2012 at 12:28 pm

One of my best childhood memories was always birthday parties. My family makes a “big deal” about them – always getting together and celebrating! We continue that tradition even today and its awesome! I love that my daughter always has people around her that love her on her birthday! Next year she will have 1 more little person around to share her day with! She is going to be a big sister in January(I just found out this morning!)

  28. Cassie D. on May 17, 2012 at 12:31 pm

One of my favorite childhood memories is the time I spent at my grandparents house with my best friend. I am an only child, so she was basically my sister, and we were inseparable. Grandma would often watch us in the summer and we loved to make up dances and gymnastics routines, performing for Grandma in her big yard. She would sit on the steps and “grade” us on our performance, like we were in the Olympics. Other times we would go up in her attic to practice before our performances, in a room she cleared out for us to have a “dance studio.” We would jump around up there and my Grandpa would alway say he thought we’d go right through the ceiling. My grandmother now has severe dementia, and has been declining since my grandfather passed away 10 years ago, so I really cherish the time I had with them as a child.

  29. Daisy on May 17, 2012 at 12:32 pm

Many of my memories were of my nan, she was just amazing and we still have a great bond. I’d love this book as a gift for my best friend, who is due in June!

  30. Juliene on May 17, 2012 at 12:35 pm

What a great giveaway. I struggled to find a boy friendly baby book and settled on something I’m not totally crazy about. Ive been winging it these last 9 months. Anyway one of my fondest memories involves my father who passed away when I was 14. We were never a super emotional or touchy feely families but I have the strongest memories of my dad rubbing my hair or holding my hand while I drifted to sleep. It’s funny the things we remember about childhood. My younger sister will ask me about events that I have no memory of. I always ask if she and I lived different childhoods but the hair rubbing is something we both remember!

My biggest memory from my childhood was the time I got lost in Disney World… By myself, age 8. Not sure how it happened but I got separated from my family and went back to my favorite ride to find the guy that had been so nice earlier. Luckily I lived thru the experience. 🙂

  32. JenG on May 17, 2012 at 12:37 pm

one of my all time favorite memories is our wooden spoons, pots, and pan parade around my grandpa’s house. We would put on silly hats and parade around his house making music and giggling. my grandpa was always the drum major and would dance in front of my brother and I. thinking of this cracks me up to this day!

ooh I would love to win for my niece who is due in Oct!! Something funny my mom wrote in my baby book was when I asked her, “Mom, does Gramma F have a penis?” hahaha

  34. Shannon on May 17, 2012 at 12:39 pm

I would love to give this to my sister in law who is having her 2nd baby boy on June 6th!
My favorite childhood memory (or one of them) is being in Nantucket with my parents during Hurricane Bob. Sounds strange but we had such a fun time being housebound, snuggling up and spending quality time. Then my Dad got the sick and twisted idea to take a ride out to the beach to watch the waves (this was before it got too too bad out). We watched from the car (there were people actually out in the water!) and the waves were getting bigger and bigger! My Dad made my Mom take a picture of me and him with the water in the background… and he’s smiling as big as can be and I’m trying to curl up in the fetal position because the wind was blowing the sand so hard it was whipping us! I was annoyed with him at the time but looking back it’s one of my favorite memories. So funny and helps me remember what a free spirit my Dad was (he passed away 4 years ago).

I remember when I climbed my first tree, my sisters and I preformed a marriage ceremony for me and the tree. The tree and I even exchanged vine curly q’s as rings. 😉 Ahh, the imagination of four girls. 😀 Thank you for the great giveaway….especially since I’m due ANY day with my first! 😀 Eeeee!

I am in LOVE with this book! I too have been looking for the perfect baby book and I am pretty sure you found it! Regardless of if I win or not I will be checking out this seller!

My favorite memory from my child hood is just all the sagas my teddy bear went thru. We lost “Bubba” at so many different places but somehow he always found his way home. At my baby shower last year my mom told me that she had bought a second Bubba and held on to it for 24 years just in case my original one disappeared for good. She gave it to me at my shower so now my daughter has her very own Bubba just like her mamas.

Aren’t moms amazing?! I feel so blessed to have a great one and now be one. Thanks for an awesome giveaway!

This would make the perfect gift for boyfriend’s brother and sis-in-law since they just had their first baby girl!

  38. Natalia on May 17, 2012 at 12:42 pm

My favorite childhood memory is from when I was about 5 years old. I have always love dogs so I remember “riding” my dog – Mickey – (errr…like a horse) and well… grabbing his neck so I didn’t fell. Poor baby, he was so humble that he just let me play with him and do whatever I wanted. Oh good times you just make me remember!!

  39. Katie on May 17, 2012 at 12:42 pm

I am 21 weeks pregnant right now and these baby books are absolutely perfect! I would love to have one for my baby.

My story from when I was a child is one that my parents have told me many times, although I don’t remember it myself. They had just turned my car seat to face the front for the first time, and my mom was driving somewhere. All of a sudden I projectile vomited with so much force that it hit the windshield. It scared my mom so much that she screamed and almost got into an accident, but she didn’t and we were both fine 🙂

  40. Stacy R. on May 17, 2012 at 12:43 pm

My favorite childhood memory is of the holidays with my huge family. Always knowing I’d get to see my cousins at Grandma’s house and expecting the same delicious food all year round. This is an awesome baby book!! Since I’m pregnant my mom and I pulled mine out last weekend to look at and it was so much fun!

  41. Kristen on May 17, 2012 at 12:43 pm

My favorite childhood memories were at Christmas time. My brother and I would visit my grandparents during winter break. It was always had so much fun. We put puzzles together, played Nintendo with them, and went snowmobiling. We had the best tea parties too. Ah, I miss those days!

  42. Alison on May 17, 2012 at 12:44 pm

My favorite child hood memory is spending summers at the lake cottage. We would spend hours in the water and my parent would take us for “almost bed time” boat ride and we’d fall asleep. 🙂 Then they would carry us to bed!

  43. Megan S on May 17, 2012 at 12:45 pm

My dad used to fly to Dayton on business trips very frequently when I was a child. Apparently I used to tell people that “my mommy sad ’cause my daddy goin’ datin’ ” implying that he was going on dates instead of business meetings. My mom said she got really tired of explaining that one to people!

Going shopping with my mommy in my favorite jeans as a toddler…I just recently had a baby girl 4 weeks ago and she saved those jeans and brought them to me when meeting her new grand daughter..priceless

I love this baby book 🙂 I am an expectant mommy and have been searching for one similar to this. They are hard to come by. This is my first time leaving a comment, however I read your blog daily and love all the advice you have to offer.

As a child my sister and I were obsessed with being cheerleaders, we always were making up our own cheers, routines, and chants. One sunny day, my sister and I were playing outside and decided to pretend to be cheerleaders. We came up with the best name for out team and thought it was very inventive. We were young and clueless that our team name actually meant something entirely different. So here we were outside screaming at the top of our lungs… GO ANALS!! We were so proud of our cheer that of course we wanted to show off our hard work to my mother. Lets just say, she was mortified at what we were yelling outside for everyone to hear and the story still gets laughed at to this day!

  46. Nicole on May 17, 2012 at 12:48 pm

My favorite memories often revolve around food – suprise, suprise! My grandma use to always serve cream of wheat with brown sugar and milk on top, and peach iced tea on Sunday mornings. These breakfasts were often ate when she was baking a fresh loaf of cardamom bread – my favorite, even as an adult! Every time I make cream of wheat as an adult, I can taste the peach iced tea and smell cardamom.

  47. KarH on May 17, 2012 at 12:48 pm

It’s more of a collection of memories. Until I was about 20, my family had a lake house where all of the extended family gathered on a weekly basis. As kids, we spent so much time there with our cousins, swimming, fishing, riding bikes, playing volleyball and whiffle ball, and of course enjoying gigantic cookouts. Between our 3 sets of parents, my husband and I are lucky to have 3 similar “summer homes” in the family. I can only hope our children (first one due in two weeks!!) will get to grow up as close to all of their cousins, with such special memories.

My favorite memory is watching baseball games with my grandfather every weekend. There was something so soothing and comforting about watching the game and spending time with him. To this day, I still love baseball!

I just found out I was pregnant on Monday!! I would love this book to document the entire process and then give it to my child some day! =)

  49. Lou on May 17, 2012 at 12:50 pm

I love this book, it is just perfect!
My favourite memories from when I was a child always revolve around our animals. My parents love animals and have instilled this in me. One of my very first memories as a child was when I was around 4/5 years of age. We had chickens and they were so much fun! The hen in charge was named Cornel. I loved Cornel so much even if she was a bit cranky. She liked me though and never pecked me. I was the only one who was allowed in the chicken pen and therefore the only one who could collect the eggs. I remember holding her in my arms chasing my older sisters with her because they were frightened of her! I think that’s one of my parent’s fondest memories too 🙂

  50. Kristen on May 17, 2012 at 12:50 pm

When I was about 10, I was just getting to the age where I cared what others thought about me. My dad bought an old rusty Mercury Tracer from a junk yard so that he could teach my mom to drive a 5 speed without worrying about her destroying the vehicle in process. I HATED that car.
At Christmas, I knew I was getting a kareoke machine. My parents said it was at my grandparents house. So my dad had to drive me there…in the Tracer!!! He went through our very small, everybody-knows-everybody town honking the horn and yelling Merry Christmas. We went past my friends’ houses as well as my crush’s house. I was MORTIFIED! Then we circled back home and there was my kareoke machine sitting in the living room! All the embarrassment for nothing….but now a GREAT memory. I love my dad.
