Book of memories {giveaway}
Lots of fun little projects have been going on lately, including:
the Pinterest-inspired photo wall for upstairs
(collecting frames in various textures, all in the same color family and picking up photo orders from Walgreens)
and Liv’s baby book.
It took me a LONG time to order a baby book, because I couldn’t find the one I created in my mind (don’t you hate when that happens?). I didn’t want it to all be entirely digital, then clicking “publish/save” and having it sent to the house. I wanted it to be more personal, organized so I wouldn’t have to scrapbook the entire thing, enable me to write (in my own, messy chicken scratch) and attach photos.
This is exactly the baby book I had in mind:
I ordered the book from Ruby Love on Etsy (they also have a website) and was able to pick out the cover fabric, color scheme and what features I wanted the book to include.
It’s perfect.
All of the basic info is there, plus unique questions for the parents to fill out
the ability to attach photos (with 24 photo-mounting sheets included)
Lots of room to write
calendar pages with stickers for milestones
and an entire back section of blank scrapbook pages.
It’s perfect.
I add a little bit to it every day, and can’t wait to start filling up the blank pages in the back. A scrapbook project I can actually look forward to… before, the only scrapbook pages I’ve made have been for my husband and the single guys deploying.
I ordered and paid for the book, but after receiving it and discovering how truly amazing it is, I contacted the seller to see if she would be interested in offering a giveaway. I was so excited when she said yes- this would be perfect for an expecting mama or as a gift.
One lucky winner will receive a custom Ruby Love baby book of their choice. All you have to do is leave a heartfelt or funny memory from when you were a child. I can’t wait to read these 🙂
I’ll pick the winner Friday night (11:59pm EST) and announce it in Saturday’s family post.
xoxo

Pretty much my earliest memory is of 2-year-old me telling my mom, who was pregnant at the time, that I wanted to have a brother AND a sister. She laughed and told me that I only got to have one. But it turns out that she was pregnant – with twins! I got my brother and my sister all at once. (I am pregnant now and when we had our first ultrasound, we were SO relieved to only hear one heartbeat! Twins are serious business.)
This is an amazing memory! 😀
That book is adorable! My favorite childhood memory is pretending to be detectives with my sister and spying on the neighbors for evidence.
What a sweet book! One of my favorite memories is when my brother was born. I remember having fun running up and down the hallways of the hospital and getting a Cabbage Patch Doll. I don’t really remember him as a newborn, I just remember how my parents made sure to make it special for me.
Some of my favorite memories from when I was a child are the holidays and the traditions we had! I am still like a kid at Christmas time and hope to pass on the same traditions to our children 🙂
becoming a big sister stands out as one of my favorite childhood memories. i have two younger sisters and i remember how proud and excited i was both times. when my baby sister was an infant my other sister and i would always try to guess how she was going to sound when she started talking and we would incorporate what we thought she would say into our conversations…haha we were crazy, but i have wonderful memories and inside jokes with them. Even now there is nothing like being a 20 something year old, staying up late when i am home visiting being completely ridiculous with my sisters. i love being a big sister and take my responsibilities seriously 🙂
My Aunts favorite story about me is when she had my brother and I over as kids to spend the night a few weeks before Christmas. We were arguing and she came in and said, “You know, Santa can hear you right now and if you keep arguing he might not bring you any presents.” My response was, “Well you tell Santa that what’s going on in here is none of his business!” I was such a little sassy girl! Haha!
a memory i cant remember but my mom tells me over and over…i was a baby and my brother was 2 and heard me crying on the floor, he comes up and picks me up and carries me down the stairs to my mom. (he never dropped me, so they say). at least i have a loving brother who was taking care of me 🙂
One of my favorite childhood memories is making “mud pies” with my brother and girlfriends using actual mud/dirt from the dirt road we lived next to as a kid. I still can’t believe my mom let us put actual mud on baking sheets and put them in the oven to bake, I have a lot to learn from her before I become a mom!! 🙂
I have a lot of great childhood memories. Most of them were with my 3 brothers and sister playing in our “jail” -as we called it. My parents had a fenced in area full of toys, a swing set, sand box, etc. We loved being in there!
One day my family and I were walking home and my brother and I decided to race to the front steps. I must have been 5 and my brother 4. Well I won 🙂 My brother was so upset he picked up a rock and threw it at me. Completely not like him by the way, he was the sweetest little boy. Anyway it hit me right in the eye! My brother swears to this day that if he tried to recreate that throw he wouldn’t be able to. My parents were needless to say very angry and his punishment was that he couldn’t dye easter eggs with us that night. I obviously felt this was way too harsh (still kinda feel that way!) and apparently sneaked the eggs and dye into our room. Not too smart considering a 4 and 5 year old dying eggs alone is sure to create a huge mess and leave behind a ton of evidence. Which apparently we did. My parents thought it was so cute they weren’t even mad 🙂
One of my favorite memories as a child was mowing the lawn with my dad! He would always mow the lawn at dusk and I had a little lawn mower of my own that I would push alongside him. Thinking about it now, it was probably extremely dangerous to have a toddler that close to a lawn mower, but I loved it! 🙂 The smell of fresh cut grass still takes me back to that memory sometimes!
I’ll never forget the time when I was 4 and I found a dead fish on the beach, brought it over to my parents, and proudly proclaimed, “I got dinner!”
I would absolutely love to win one of these scrapbooks! My husband and I are expecting a baby girl (Grace) on September 30!
I grew up with a female cousin who was 5 years older than me. We were very close, and I wanted to be just like her. At our old house, there was a rock pit. There’s an old video of us playing with the rocks – my cousin would pick one up and throw it, and I would do the same. After several throws, our parents asked us to stop. Of course, my older cousin kept on, and so did I! It’s adorable and super funny. She’s due with her second baby one month after me, and I am so excited that our babies will be one month apart!
Ooh, I’m due in July and would LOVE this baby book.
My favorite childhood memory is taking road trips with my family “up north” to the lake. We would pack grandparents, kids a d dog into a suburban and all stay together in one cabin for a week every summer. Fun to learn about the turtles, fish, chipmunks, and even a few raccoons with your grandpa.
One of my most vivid childhood memories is when my sister and I were fighting over a pair of plastic heart-shaped sunglasses. We were sitting foot to foot and each pulling on an arm. She let go and I hit my head off the outside corner of a wall. The back of my head split open and my waist-length hair was soon soaked with blood. We were with a babysitter who freaked out. My mom took me to the hospital when she got home and I got stitches. She was trying to shield me from seeing a man come into the ER with his ear hanging off, but I was really engrossed in watching him. I was about 5 years old. I remember being taken to McDonald’s after the ER visit. I remember everyone being so freaked out, but I was pretty calm and didn’t think it was a big deal. 🙂
The baby book you ordered looks so nice! Friends of my husband and I’s are expecting their first little girl in August and this would make a great gift for them!
One of my most fondest/embarrassing memories as a kid was a couple days in 4th grade at a brand new school. We were all lined up outside of the classroom and the teacher’s dog peed on my leg. I was mortified, but somehow it made all the kids want to get to know me and be my friend!
Going to my Maternal Grandparents (Italian heritage) to visit and being able to eat my Grandpa’s homemade sauce. He always took such pride in cooking and watching everybody enjoy his food. I always felt sad that they lived 3 hours away but then felt like it made me appreciate them even more because vacation the MA were always so special. He died in 2002, and I still crave his sauce. I always will. <3
One of my favorite childhood stories is when I painted my little sister’s fingernails, but actually painted all the way up each of her fingers. I convinced her that it was new nail polish/technique that would ensure I didn’t miss any spots. I told her that the nail polish on her skin would disappear once it had dried! Haha! My mom was laughing so hard when Kristy told on me that I didn’t even get in trouble! We all just ended up cracking up about it!
Apparently I did not like clothes until I was 4 or 5 because 75% of my pictures until that point I was not wearing any.
Going to my grandmas house where everyone would gather and hangout. She’d cook a huge dinner and we’d all go out and pick strawberries. I remember always wanting to go over there just for those strawberries.
I am the oldest of 4 sisters, and we all enjoyed helping my mom cook. It was the mid 80’s and I was about 5, when my family went on a camping trip in our new RV. According to the way my mom tells the story, me and second sister woke of early excited to be camping. While my parents slept, my sister and I preceded to open a large amount of the canned beans, fruit cocktail, etc. that were brought for the trip with the new electric can opener and mix/dump them into a large metal mixing bowl. When she found us, we were both so proud of our salad and wanted to share. We didn’t get in trouble, but we discovered that beans and fruit cocktail don’t mix. The rule that was adopted that day, was if you make it you must try it.
We had a spiral staircase where I grew up. It was lots of fun to play on. One day however I managed to get my head through the bannister railings, but was then stuck. The more I struggled the more stuck I got. Dad heard my cries, came in and I waited for him to help. He seemed to be taking a long time. I later learned he had stopped to draw a picture of it as he thought it was hilarious (he was a good artist..). I am still traumatised.
i am the youngest of nine children and don’t have a lot of these moments recorded from my childhood…my parents were very tired by the time i came around! i would love to have this for my future child!
A funny childhood memory is blowing out my candles at my birthday party, only to discover my older brother beat me to it. I made my parents re-enact the entire thing – re-light the candles, re-sing the song, and right before they started, I made sure to move as far away from my brother as possible. We are expecting a little brother for our daughter, but hopefully she won’t ruin too many birthday moments for him.
My brother and I were playing with those life size Legos they had in the 80’s and I was swinging the one that was like a 4×4 wood and told my brother to move because I was gonna let go. Well ethier he didn’t move or was to slow because it ended up hitting him in the head and knocking him out, I remember running down stairs screaming I killed micheal! He was fine once he came too, and has been getting pay back ever since lol!
My BFF brother who’s my lil bro from another mother is having a boy in July, so this would be great to give them!
I have a 6 week old and would just love this precious giveaway!
A memory of childhood was when my dad gave me a pink panther stuffed animal. I was in the hospital after getting stitches for the first time- fell on my chin!. I was sooo happy to see him and my new friend. I still have my pink panther!
One of my most vivid childhood memories were the mornings we would get up at dawn to feed the chickens.
I remember Saturdays spent with my family going to several cider mills on perfect fall days. On one particular trip without my mom but with two friends in tow my dad ran out of gas 50 miles from home! Classic, and he continues to run out of gas every year or so to this day.:)
My good friend is due in July. This would be awesome to give to her. A childhood memory? The best for me always happened at Summit Lake where my grandma lived. Every year for 4th of July everyone on the lake would dress up in costume and go out in their boats for a boat parade. One year my grandma and her friends were all fruits and veggies and I dressed up as a little pumpkin. Those boat rides were so much fun!
My younger sister is expecting her first baby and a book like this would be perfect! One of my favorite memories is of my dad. He was a pilot in the Army for 20 years and flew apache helicopters and then cargo planes. When he would get home from a flight he would sit on the couch and my sister and I would each get a boot to untie and take off for him. He would tell us about the flight and we’d tell him about school. Still one of my favorite memories!
I have an 8 week old and would love this!
One of my favorite childhood memories is coming home from school and having a Tupperware cup of raisins while I told my mom about my day, to this day the smell of raisins and tupperware takes me back.
That looks like the perfect baby book! I would love to get this for both myself and my best friend, we are both expecting!
One memory I have as a kid is sitting in the living room with my mom while she made me a mix tape (cassette!) of some of our favorite songs. I played that tape every night before I fell asleep for as long as I could remember. It was one of the best things and probably what lead me to become such a music junkie.
I lovee that book, she will too! One of my favorite childhood memories is when my Dad would come home from work and drive me and my sisters around in the bed of his truck! haha we LOVED it!!!
All of my favorite memories come from my childhood Christmases. I remember being about 7 and sneaking my Grandma’s famous cinnamon sugar pecans one by one until the entire tin was finished, I shamefully denied eating them all, but everyone new it was me…the little sweet and salty fiend! That was the same Christmas that my mother delegated frosting sugar cookies to my cousin and I and we forgot to whip in the powdered sugar into the icing, so our cookies were frosted with butter and food coloring!
a cute memory i have as a child is me and my brother would sing the words “loooveeee hurts” and hug each other really hard.
Favorite memory is playing bus with my brothers and cousins 🙂
Apparently, on my first day of kindergarten, I walked into the room in my raincoat and boots and announced “My name is Colleen, and I like to sing and dance!” and then proceeded to demonstrate!
I am expecting my 2nd baby and sad to say, I really haven’t been putting much thought into the “memory aspect” as I did for my first daughter. This would certainly help me get some motivation to get going with that!
My fondest memory as a child was our family outings. It may not seem like much but I loved having family days on Sunday. Every sunday we would go to church, then load up the car to head to our favorite mall where my sister and I would tear up the arcade. And then we would usually go to Bickford’s or Friendly’s for a late lunch. It was just a great time with those that meant the most to me. Not much, but it’s all that mattered.
As the youngest, I remember trying to chase after my brother and sister all the time! As my mom says, I learned to scoot early because I wanted to keep up with them!
My little one will be here anytime now! This book would be a great place to record the journey of our first baby.
My favorite childhood memories all involve me and my brother. But one that sticks out is when he asked me to push him down the cement staircase in our back yard on his school bus scooter. He had to get stitches on his head, and to this day he tells my parents I pushed him…and fails to remember that he asked me to! 🙂
My earliest memory was standing in front of my 3rd birthday Smurf piñata 🙂
I would LOVE to win this as my husband and I are *starting* to think about having a baby soon. You have such great recommendations, I don’t doubt this is another good one 🙂
My childhood memories usually involve my brother whom I ADORED when I was little. He was a sneaky guy though 🙂 We got a Nintendo when my brother turned 8 and got 30minutes to play each day. I’d always want to play with my brother so would do anything he wanted just so I could play with him. He’d boss me around and have me set it up for him, get him snacks, etc and then hand me a controller. BUT he never set it up for 2 players! He’d do one player and tell me that he was going to let me play by myself so that I could get better! It took me a LONG time to figure it out too.. little sneak! Love him so much though.
Great giveaway! When I was little, I thought babies were born from (& nursed from!) the mommy’s belly button. Now, I’m expecting triplets in the fall <3
I am expecting in 3 weeks, so this would be amazing!! Funny memory – I used my older sister’s closet wall as a canvas and used to sneak in as a toddler and color to my heart’s content … eventually she realized the extent of my masterpiece and was not happy
What a sweet idea! I love the spaces available to write all her first milestones. One of my favorite memories is playing dress-up with my sisters. We used to love going into my parents’ bedroom, going through my mom’s dresser and putting on her long silky “dresses.” Years later, we learned these we were actually her lingerie!
I was three years old when my mom gave birth to my younger brother. I was always super curious and in love with the baby before he came into this world, even naming him in utero! So, no surprise that I was allowed to go to the hospital to see the baby in the delivery room. A few days later, as we brought the new baby home to meet awaiting family , dad thought it would be fun for me to introduce the baby to the extended family. We stopped to get some brunch foods for our guests and we had a very serious conversation about what I would say when we “busted” through the door. We pulled into our home’s driveway. Dad walked in first, I followed closely, mom and baby just behind us. Dad looked down at me as I faced 15 family faces…”Okay, honey, tell them the good news…” This is when I took the liberty to throw my hands in the air, spin around, and shout…”HEY EVERYONE, GUESS WHAT!!! GOOD NEWS!!! WE GOT DONUTS!!!!!!” I love this story and it so defines my love for food (and my younger brother who is still my love and joy!)
One of my fondest memories as a child was driving around town with my mom at night during the holiday season. Seeing the lights lit up was so magical at that age, and I clearly remember singing EmmyLou Harris Christmas carols to death in the car. I’ll always carry those memories with me <3
I remember making play dough with my mom and spilling food coloring all over the counter… It’s good they were getting replaced shortly after 🙂
I can’t think of just ONE favorite childhood memory! I am the middle child of 5! I guess the funniest I can think of was when my grandmother came to visit and stay for a few days, I emptied the close she had put away and dumped baby powder all over everything in the room! She was not amused!!
Most of my favorite childhood memories include my grandma – as I think back I realized that is because my mom was working so hard to better our lives so she just wasn’t around as much as my grandma was! (when I was very small!) But, she her work so hard when I was young instilled SUCH a great work ethic in me.
One of my favorite memories was running up to my grandma and leaning my head on her lap and her just stroking my hair and loving on me. She’d have her chihuahua in her shirt, which of course I thought was the COOLEST thing ever. As I grew, I remember I’d walk home from school and if I saw her car in our driveway I’d break into a sprint to get home as fast as I could to see her. <3 I laid my head and her lap and let her stroke my hair until I was in 10th grade when she passed away.
