Extra Protein

Hi guys! How are ya?

I could get used to this…

pool

Since it’s my cousin’s spring break this week, she’s been my daytime Orlando buddy. Today, we went down to our grandparent’s pool with one of her friends. Listening to the Bob Marley station on Pandora made it an extra lovely day 🙂

Spin class this morning was a lot of fun, too, if you consider sweating like a beast “fun” 🙂 Israel kicks my booty every. single. time. We did 1 minute sprints, sets of 25 jumps, heavy climbs (keeping the beat of the music) and other spinsanity. Amazing 🙂 After class, I did some light weights for my leggies as well as some abs.

Eats:

smoothie

Millet with almond butter and banana with coffee

Smoothie and a side of yorkie (my aunt’s dog, Scamp- Viesa tried to eat him once)

smoothie (2)

Larabar

bar

(Tastes like the Bahamas…. or what I would imagine the Bahamas to taste like)

Edamame:

edamame

And… um… extra protein

worm

a WORM!!!

Imagine the most blood curdling scream you’ve ever heard accompanied with a crazy hopping dance. That was me.

At least it proves that the edamame was organic, right? Haha.

Today, I rocked out my new headband, courtesy of Targizzle.

headband

And my cousins and I went to Florida Mall to hit up Sephora and the ginormous Forever 21.

As Mama Pea says, shopping at Forever 21 doesn’t make you 21 Forever 😉

Shopping fuel:

snack

They actually spelled my name right! (I see a lot of crazy variations)

My aunt just got home and we’re off to dinner. See ya in the morning with a post on dealing with deployments.

xoxo,

G$

Have you ever had any “extra protein” in one of your meals before?? I’ll never forget when I was about 7 and I was drinking my soda and starting to chew on something crunchy. It was a fly. I was traumatized forever 😉

I once found a lady bug in my Earthbound Organic Spring Mix!!! I guess it really was organic, huh? I caught it before it entered my mouth though. Phew!

A WORM THOUGH!?! AHHHHH!!! So much worse than a cute lil’ lady bug 🙂

  2. Jenny on April 6, 2010 at 7:56 pm

Creepy! I’ve gotta keep my eyes peeled the next time I eat edamame! When I was working onboard I had maggots accidentally dumped on me- needless to say, a couple screams were involved, but it’s all good:)

  3. Sarah @ THE FOODIE DIARIES on April 6, 2010 at 7:57 pm

UM i got a BEE in my pad thai once! like HOW does that happen!?

  4. Jennifer on April 6, 2010 at 7:57 pm

Once at olive garden there was a bug in my salad! It look just like the lettuce too. Thank goodness I pick through things when I eat or else I probably would have swallowed it. OG gave us a free mea. I have been since then and I still worry about bugs!

  5. Jackie on April 6, 2010 at 7:59 pm

You need to post your f21 goodies!!

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2010 at 10:25 pm

      i will 🙂

  6. Diane on April 6, 2010 at 8:00 pm

I would freak out!! Haha, it’s funny you mentioned this because last week I found a dead fly in my spinach (local, organic, but disgusting) and today there was a piece of plastic in my romaine? So weird and a little bit discouraging. I’m starting to consider spending more money on bagged lettuce just so I don’t have to eat in fear, haha.

That Forever21 looks AMAZING!! Glad you’re having fun 🙂

    • Elyse.g on April 6, 2010 at 8:17 pm

I found a LIVE grasshopper in my bagged lettuce…. I don’t know if buying it prebagged will help!

      • Diane on April 6, 2010 at 8:28 pm

!!!! Ugh, I’m about to start individually washing each piece haha.

  7. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on April 6, 2010 at 8:08 pm

Ewwy!! I would have freaked, but like you said, if there’s no chemicals, it’s bound to happen!!

  8. Erin Alexandria on April 6, 2010 at 8:09 pm

Cute headband girl! Hope you got some great shopping in 🙂

  9. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on April 6, 2010 at 8:23 pm

wow, I would have screamed loud too…I have had a fly in my water at a restaurant, but I don’t think that’s as bad. Love the headband, super cute!

  10. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on April 6, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Ugh…I found a worm in my salad once at a restaurant. They made me SHOW them the worm….as if I was lying. Let’s just say I’ve never gone back.

  11. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on April 6, 2010 at 8:30 pm

Ill never forget the time we got “flied” rice at the Chinese place. SO GROSS!

    Hugs to you my friend!

  12. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on April 6, 2010 at 8:31 pm

Eww! That would make me not eat edamame for a very long time. I don’t handle bugs well, though. And that made me totally forget what I was going to say. All I can think is worm, worm, WORM!

Oh, right… I was going to say “Lucky you” for laying by the pool. But now that I’ve seen your extra protein…not so lucky. Sorry lady!!

  13. Lindsey @ Sound Eats on April 6, 2010 at 8:33 pm

My sister found part (I think the bottom half) of a FROG in a package of edamame a year and a half ago. The company barely acknowledged it and my sister still won’t eat edamame (and is really freaked by frogs lol).

    LOVE the headband!!

    • Abbey on April 6, 2010 at 8:55 pm

LOL scary. i said this below already, but i read about a woman finding a frog in her bagged lettuce. O_o. That’s just freaky…I guess it’s impossible to altogether avoid “extra toppings” whether it’s organic or bagged. XD LOL yes i know that was a disturbing way to put it. XD

  14. Evey, "Don't Fight the Apple, Eve" on April 6, 2010 at 8:35 pm

I accidentally almost swallowed a bee when I was 7 or 8. I’d be doing the same thing you did if I’d found a worm too.
Do you use any specific type of sunscreen. All the ones I have tried are either loaded with parabans or clog my pores. Any suggestions? Can’t wait to see the post with all of your goodies from Orlando. Hope your vacation is going well.

  15. Kelly on April 6, 2010 at 8:36 pm

Ewwwww I would be afraid of edamame for quite some time after that. Love that headband though! Super cute!

  16. Mama Pea on April 6, 2010 at 8:38 pm

Oh lawdy! I once found a slug on a dinner salad at a very nice restaurant…which actually worked out pretty well because we got a free dessert (a slice of chocolate flourless cake) that we never would have paid $17.50 for. I now carry slug farms in my purse.

    Love your headband!

  17. Lauren @ eater not a runner on April 6, 2010 at 8:39 pm

GROSS! I would have cried 🙁

  18. Allison @ Food For Healing on April 6, 2010 at 8:42 pm

Eww worms! I found little crawly bugs in some flour once, i was jumpin and shakin all over haha

My name gets mispelled all the time too! The weirdest one was “elasen” like WTF really??

  19. Cassie on April 6, 2010 at 8:43 pm

I once found an ant in a sealed container of Tic-Tacs. The little guy had eaten the coating off some of the Tic-Tacs. No kidding! How it got in there, I’ll never know!!!

  20. Courtney on April 6, 2010 at 8:50 pm

I found a big dead spider in my chipotle lettuce once…. I haven’t had the lettuce from there ever since.

  21. Abbey on April 6, 2010 at 8:52 pm

ahhhh that’s scary XD i’ve never really had anything too traumatizing, but i did read about a woman who found a dead frog in a package of bagged lettuce. all the more reason to always by an organic head of lettuce instead XD

  22. melissa lillie on April 6, 2010 at 8:53 pm

When I was young my brother and I were eating cereal in front of the TV and he was on his second bowl and he made a odd yelp, jumped up and ran to the bathroom. I looked at his cereal bowl and it was raisin bran with tons of weavels in it. He thought they were raisins! I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants and to this day I cannot see a bowl of raisin bran and not crack up about it. However I never ate the stuff again- thank goodness I had chosen Cinnamon Toast Crunch that night!

    • Sam- Brown Eyes, Blue Skies on April 6, 2010 at 11:48 pm

Ahhh!! When I was about 10 years old, I ate half a bowl of Raisin Bran before realizing the bowl was full of ants. I NEVER went near Raisin Bran again!!! I’m also terrified of ants… Good to know I’m not the only Raisin Bran hater! 🙂

  23. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on April 6, 2010 at 8:53 pm

eeeewwwwwwwwww I found a dry, brown (dead – obviously) bug in some bagged greens a couple years ago.

bleh. I kept gagging for hours after that.

  24. Tyler on April 6, 2010 at 8:56 pm

I’m sooooo excited for your deployment post! You are my fav blogger because you are a fashionable lady, you love to get your sweat on, AND you are a Military Wife! We need more good role models like yourself! There are too many bad apples out there (I know you know what I’m sayin’ girl!).

  25. Jenna on April 6, 2010 at 9:03 pm

    I love the headband!

I haven’t ever experienced the extra protein, but the wedding I was at a few weeks ago, there was some extra protein in my salad. Luckily I saw it before I dug in. Ugh, makes me nauseas thinking about it!

  26. Samantha on April 6, 2010 at 9:05 pm

So jealous!! It looks beautiful there!!

  27. Katie on April 6, 2010 at 9:06 pm

Thank you! I’m so glad you said that about the Tropical Larabar. I told my husband it tasted like the Caribbean and he thought that was crazy.

Ewww a worm in your edamame. Gross. I’m sorry. The worst thing I can recall was I recently found a rock in a bag of garbanzo beans…and that isn’t *horrible.* it definitely could have been worse.

  28. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on April 6, 2010 at 9:07 pm

Ooh, I LOVE that headband AND your paisley dishware!! Too cute!

  29. Beverly on April 6, 2010 at 9:09 pm

Ugh…looking forward to your “dealing with deployment” post. NOT looking forward to another deployment.

I wanna go to the pooooooool.

    Signed,
San Francisco’s fog can suck it.

  31. wendy on April 6, 2010 at 9:10 pm

Yes….a dead fly fell out of the bunch of Romaine I was cutting up for lunch…yuck! The worm in edamame is super gross though, sorry!

  32. Nissa on April 6, 2010 at 9:15 pm

Once in a bag of mixed salad greens I saw what looked like an olive fall into my bowl. Not an olive. Dead fly.
    I didn’t eat the salad.
I can see maybe a head of lettuce, but a bag of mixed baby greens? Makes me think of that episode of Friends when Phoebe finds the thumb in her soda.

  33. whitney @ whitinspired on April 6, 2010 at 9:19 pm

ok. Now I’m going to be forever freaked out when I eat edamame. Icky!

  34. Maya on April 6, 2010 at 9:26 pm

Hey Gina! I love your blog, even though I don’t often comment. And, after hearing you rave about it so much, I bought millet bread and me gusta. Besides the taste factor, is there any other added benefit to eating gluten free bread if you don’t have celiac’s disease? In other words, should I make millet and other gluten free breads my sandwich/bread standards even if I don’t need to eat gluten free, or is good ol whole grain good to use, too? Thanks for your help!

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2010 at 10:24 pm

      hey girl,
it’s not so much the gluten-free thing than it is the whole-grain thing. whole grain bread is excellent whether its gluten-free or not. i just really love the taste and ingredients of the millet bread

  35. Melissa S. on April 6, 2010 at 9:36 pm

ah! i once found a worm in a strawberry pie…made me scream then laugh my butt off!

and love that hairband from target! i need one of those!

  36. Annie on April 6, 2010 at 9:38 pm

OMG I FOUND ONE IN MY EDAMAME TOO!!

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2010 at 10:23 pm

what?!? i might be staying away from edamame for a little while if this is a common thing, haha

  37. Manda @ Manda's Days on April 6, 2010 at 9:58 pm

Oh– I was eating a raw energy junk once and also got a nice little worm-wave! Lol! Haven’t been able to eat um since. I’m glad you’re havin fun on your Spring Break. I’m definitely missing mine! Till tomorrow 😉

  38. Ange on April 6, 2010 at 9:58 pm

Just last week I found a long bird feather in my organic spinach!!! I was mortified!!!

  39. Liz on April 6, 2010 at 9:59 pm

I’ve never personally had some “extra protein”. My mom almost did, though. We were in Disney and she was eating this sweet roll. She didn’t see that there was a bee lounging on the pastry and almost bit right into it. That would have been very, very bad, haha.

  40. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on April 6, 2010 at 10:11 pm

    A worm?!?! I would’ve freaked!!!

  41. Midgetkeeper on April 6, 2010 at 10:37 pm

    Eew, eew!

  42. Jessica Lee on April 6, 2010 at 11:17 pm

I’m sure I’ve eaten tons of bugs in my food that I dont even know about. When I travel abroad I like eating “vendor” food and I know that stuff is not clean. Oh well…it still tastes good 🙂

I love that larabar. I agree, it totally tastes like the Bahamas!

  43. Ellen on April 6, 2010 at 11:29 pm

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever had that kind of protein before. ICK! I would have LOST.IT. I’m such a girl!

Ugh.. the worm thing is gross. Once in my grade 10 cooking class we were making a chili for the school and I had the task of cutting up peppers. When I cut the first one, a huge, green caterpillar/wormthing fell out. I screamed, ran and let a classmate finish with the peppers.

  45. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on April 6, 2010 at 11:46 pm

That’s such a great headband Gina!

In the first grade we were having popcorn and mine smelled a bit funny. Then I saw I fried worm. Lovely. My entire class wrote letter to the company to tell them how disgusted we were 🙂

  46. Sam- Brown Eyes, Blue Skies on April 6, 2010 at 11:59 pm

So first off…the headband is adorable, as is the braid. You should rock that more often.

And now…my slightly embarassing story. I had a dream the other night that you invited my boyfriend and I to your house. You lived in a small apartment and you had two horses that lived with you..inside your house. They were trained like dogs and knew how to sit and stay and fetch. The pilot was there too. You were telling me how frustrating it is that your blog readers talk smack about you having horses in your house.

I’m pretty sure the reason for the dream was a combo of the rediculous drama regarding the April fools post, and my own frustration with people telling me its cruel to live in a condo with my huge dog. So yeah, you’re officially the first blogger to show up in one of my dreams. End of embarassing story 😉

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2010 at 8:10 am

hahah i love it!! a secret: i’m terrified of horses. so i’m pretty sure i won’t have any living in my house anytime soon 😉
      xoxo

I once encountered an ant in my glass of milk. Very, very traumatizing for a girl whose first word was, in fact, “milk.”

  48. Laura J. on April 7, 2010 at 12:24 am

I found a worm in my broccoli once! *shudders* It was so disgusting!

  50. Heather (Heather's Dish) on April 7, 2010 at 12:51 am

blech, i almost threw up in my mouth! i haven’t had anything like that in my food (that i know of), but i’ve definitely accidentally swallowed some bugs while running or biking. still nasty!
