Fave cold weather gear + a giveaway- ENDED

Welcome to Tucson, winter.

I have to say, I was a little bit excited when I pulled out my beloved purple Scuba hoodie this morning.

Hoodie

It felt so weird to easily zip it, instead of awkwardly trying to zip it over a large pregnant belly like last year, even though I do kinda miss the belly. I love the soft fabric, the cozy hood and the thumbholes, of course. While it never gets cold enough to warrant working out in a sweatshirt out here, it’s definitely one of my favorite cold weather pieces.

Also on the list: my new arm sleeves that I bought for the race a few weeks ago.

Race stuff

It’s a perfect way to keep warm, without having to commit to a long-sleeved shirt. You get too hot, you take the sleeves off and, in my case, stuff them in your shirt to give you some crazy-looking bumps.

I also love running tights, ear warming headbands and mittens when it’s time for outdoor workouts in the cold. As much as I love all of the extras, hoodies will always be my favorite! I adore so many different styles and brands.

My friends at Under Armour kindly offered to giveaway a fleece storm hoodie to a lucky Fitnessista reader, if you’re looking for an extra way to stay cozy during your workouts, or to and from the gym.

Fav Winter workout – gym time. When it’s nice outside I often run outside and then do other workouts at home, but when it is cold I am forced to go to the gym and then realize I like it there.

    Love this jacket!!!

Definitely hot or power yoga! Warms you up in the cold winter!

  6. Laura on December 12, 2012 at 4:26 pm

Definitely a tie between running in the snow (when its not TOO cold out) and hot yoga – nothing like heating up when its cooling down!

  7. Rachel C on December 12, 2012 at 4:26 pm

I love running outside during the winter. It’s so much better than running in warm weather.

My Faveorite winter work out is cross country skiing, since it can only be done in the winter!

I mean, if we’re doing snow, skiing! But we don’t have very good skiing here in the mid-Atlantic, so I’ll just say that I actually like running outside most of the winter. Mild = good!

I’m a road cyclist (did my first century in august!) And with less daylight, I love perfecting my interval off season training and pedal stroke in spin class!

  28. Wallis on December 12, 2012 at 4:32 pm

Treadmill pyramids – spurts at 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10mph, then back down – for two or three rounds. Beyonce always gets me through the sprints!

  29. Casey on December 12, 2012 at 4:33 pm

While in San Diego, “winter workouts” are never really too bad, but I enjoy hiking a lot more in the winter months because it means I’m much less likely to run into critters (i.e. snakes!)! 🙂

  30. Megan on December 12, 2012 at 4:33 pm

    Bikram yoga!

  31. Crystal@TheFastFitRunner on December 12, 2012 at 4:33 pm

Running outside is my favorite winter workout! It never gets too cold in Houston, and winter doesn’t last too long, so while it is here, I love to get outside and take it all in!

  32. Allie on December 12, 2012 at 4:35 pm

Winter workouts don’t mean anything since we’ve been stationed here on Guam! I still have to get up super early to beat the heat or go to the gym to take advantage of the ac-ha!

  33. Jess on December 12, 2012 at 4:35 pm

Running outside in the snow! Early morning runs when the snow is falling and the streetlights softly illuminate the world…stunning.

  34. Sarah on December 12, 2012 at 4:35 pm

I am a winter running girl through and through! Although your December workout kicked my sore booty yesterday! 🙂

  35. Elizabeth on December 12, 2012 at 4:35 pm

I live in Florida so it doesn’t get too cold here but I love walking outside in the winter months, its the perfect temp out.

  36. Leah O on December 12, 2012 at 4:36 pm

I’m pretty partial to this workout here http://fitnessista.com/2012/12/daaaamn-girl-december-workout/ it makes every muscle burn!! I have a 9 month old and live in Seattle so in the winter time it is super hard for me to get outside for a workout. I love that I can do this one inside!

Yoga! It definitely helps warm me up and relax me after a long day at work.

  39. Norma M.A. on December 12, 2012 at 4:37 pm

I work out outdoors year round. I live in Los Angeles so that’s easy to do. The only time I go indoors for a workout is when it rains. I love trail running & boot camp and prefer cool temps over hot summer days. I love layers and comfy workout attire. I am always trying new things, like the arm warmers, and love to share other fellow campers.

  40. Erin on December 12, 2012 at 4:37 pm

  44. Corina K. on December 12, 2012 at 4:38 pm

Does climbing up the sledding hill count as a workout? 😉 Still a little kid at heart!

My favorite winter workout would have to be skating on the canal. Here in Ottawa we have the longest outdoor skating rink in the world at 7.8km long! it is an awesome workout, especially for the legs and butt!
