Fave cold weather gear + a giveaway- ENDED

Welcome to Tucson, winter.

I have to say, I was a little bit excited when I pulled out my beloved purple Scuba hoodie this morning.

Hoodie

It felt so weird to easily zip it, instead of awkwardly trying to zip it over a large pregnant belly like last year, even though I do kinda miss the belly. I love the soft fabric, the cozy hood and the thumbholes, of course. While it never gets cold enough to warrant working out in a sweatshirt out here, it’s definitely one of my favorite cold weather pieces.

Also on the list: my new arm sleeves that I bought for the race a few weeks ago.

Race stuff

It’s a perfect way to keep warm, without having to commit to a long-sleeved shirt. You get too hot, you take the sleeves off and, in my case, stuff them in your shirt to give you some crazy-looking bumps.

I also love running tights, ear warming headbands and mittens when it’s time for outdoor workouts in the cold. As much as I love all of the extras, hoodies will always be my favorite! I adore so many different styles and brands.

My friends at Under Armour kindly offered to giveaway a fleece storm hoodie to a lucky Fitnessista reader, if you’re looking for an extra way to stay cozy during your workouts, or to and from the gym.

A long run when it’s snowing is one of my favorite winter workouts! It’s so peaceful and beautiful to experience nature this way! I actually did this over the weekend…perfect way to welcome a Wisconsin winter ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m not sure why, but for some reason I tend to take spinning classes more often in the winter. Maybe because they really warm me up quickly! I also love taking walks outside with my family on a cold, clear day. Thanks for this nice giveaway, Gina!

My favorite winter workout is midnight soccer; a bunch of the dorms get together and organize, and we play at 11 at night in the dark. You can barely see the ball, but it’s a blast!

Favorite winter workout is running outside because it doesn’t get TOO cold where I live and it’s perfect when the sun is shining!

  26. eiren on December 12, 2012 at 5:03 pm

  28. Danielle C on December 12, 2012 at 5:04 pm

Fave Winter workout: treadmill interval ladder run! Keeps the treadmill from getting boring and I’m sweating like crazy at the end.

  29. Amber on December 12, 2012 at 5:05 pm

Nothing better than a jog outside as long as it’s not blizzarding. So refreshing!

  30. Molly@This Life Is Sparkling on December 12, 2012 at 5:05 pm

I still love all the same workouts, but if it’s too cold, I’ll run inside rather than out. I think I crave more yoga in the colder months though!

  31. Melissa on December 12, 2012 at 5:05 pm

My favorite winter workout is an 18 mile run on the trail – I don’t have to worry about anyone lurking outside waiting for a lone woman to run by. He would be frozen!

  32. sarah s on December 12, 2012 at 5:05 pm

my favorite winter workout is walking in fresh fallen snow (when it happens). there’s something so magical about being out in the snow once it’s all settled but before people start venturing out in their cars again! and for some strange reason, it feels like the snow insulates things and makes it just warm enough to be bearable!

Anything that is indoors! But if I’m chilled to the bone, hot yoga has a way of warming me up like no other workout.

  35. MaryAnna on December 12, 2012 at 5:06 pm

Hiking in the snow…when there is snow, which isn’t as frequent anymore. Which is just as well, because I usually end up on my bum!

  36. Colette on December 12, 2012 at 5:09 pm

My favorite winter work out is strength training at home or the gym. I’m a wuss in the cold, so anything below 50 is usually “too cold” to run outside. I bet the hoodie would certainly help with keeping warm though!

  37. laura on December 12, 2012 at 5:09 pm

I love all workouts during the winter!

  38. laura on December 12, 2012 at 5:09 pm

i love my ear warmer. something about having your ears warm makes the rest of your body not seem so cold! I would love to win–I definitely need some comfy hoodies ๐Ÿ™‚

  39. Kalynn on December 12, 2012 at 5:12 pm

Running is my favorite workout any time of the year!

Bikram all the way!!!!! Feels so good to walk into the hot room when it’s chilly outside – an so good to walk into the cold after a sweaty class!

During the winter time, I like to utilize my workout DVD stash. Turbo Fire and anything by Shaun T are my go tos!

  44. Kristen Martzan on December 12, 2012 at 5:13 pm

The Scuba hoodie is one of my favs for Chicago winters too! I love trying new fitness classes and dvds in the winter… although Zumba is a favorite no matter the time of year!

  45. Kristina on December 12, 2012 at 5:14 pm

I’m not a cold weather person so I stay in the gym durning winter. Weights, treadmill, the elliptical, and yoga will become my best friend this winter.

  46. molly @ heart, sole & cereal on December 12, 2012 at 5:14 pm

i love running in the cold, actually. so much fun gear with thumbholes to be worn!

  47. Stefanie S. on December 12, 2012 at 5:15 pm

My favorite witner workout is anything I can do inside! It gets pretty cold here in the mornings and although I have warm clothing for cold runs, sometimes I’m just not up for it. Some of my favorite at home workouts are the P90x Plyo workout, flow yoga podcasts (along with a great playlist) and last but not least…any of the circuit workouts from the fitness page here ๐Ÿ™‚
