Fave cold weather gear + a giveaway- ENDED

Welcome to Tucson, winter.

I have to say, I was a little bit excited when I pulled out my beloved purple Scuba hoodie this morning.

Hoodie

It felt so weird to easily zip it, instead of awkwardly trying to zip it over a large pregnant belly like last year, even though I do kinda miss the belly. I love the soft fabric, the cozy hood and the thumbholes, of course. While it never gets cold enough to warrant working out in a sweatshirt out here, it’s definitely one of my favorite cold weather pieces.

Also on the list: my new arm sleeves that I bought for the race a few weeks ago.

Race stuff

It’s a perfect way to keep warm, without having to commit to a long-sleeved shirt. You get too hot, you take the sleeves off and, in my case, stuff them in your shirt to give you some crazy-looking bumps.

I also love running tights, ear warming headbands and mittens when it’s time for outdoor workouts in the cold. As much as I love all of the extras, hoodies will always be my favorite! I adore so many different styles and brands.

My friends at Under Armour kindly offered to giveaway a fleece storm hoodie to a lucky Fitnessista reader, if you’re looking for an extra way to stay cozy during your workouts, or to and from the gym.

I much prefer the gym in the winter (my state gets pretty darn cold in winter months) but I still do like to walk my dogs around our neighborhood- both are 100 lb dogs so it can still be quite the workout!

I love running outside when it’s cold out; it is so much more enjoyable when you don’t have to deal with heat and humidity.

My favorite winter workout is going for a long run in the snow at night, it’s beautiful and silent.

  4. Kimberly on December 12, 2012 at 5:40 pm

I have a great yoga for cardio I do in my living room when it’s too dark/cold to get exercise outside.

I think my favorite winter workouts are a pilates or yoga class. There’s something nice about getting your muscles warm without getting too sweaty when its freezing out.

I have to take it inside when it gets cold… I’m a wimp with cold weather! So I usually rely on workout videos, or the “dreadmill.” ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Talia on December 12, 2012 at 5:46 pm

My favorite winter workout is actually hiking in LA. Sometimes it gets too hot for me to hike in the summer!

I love running in the cold weather! Call me crazy, but I run so much better when it is cold compared to when it is hot.

  25. Kristen on December 12, 2012 at 5:49 pm

Even though I live in wisconsin my favorite work out is ALWAYS outdoor running. Even if its 20 degrees out! (I do debate going when it’s less than that, then its just not fun). I have an underarmour sweatshirt and i LOVE it, a second one is on my christmas list!

Group Power and Group Ride! I love taking classes in the winter time because they still make me happy during dreary rainy months here in Oregon. Plus, I love the positive energy and staying happy during depressing months with fitness friends ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. Alyssa on December 12, 2012 at 5:51 pm

I do most of my workouts in the gym – so nothing really changes once winter hits! but i do love to skate, so i guess that counts as my favourite winter workout ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Molly C. on December 12, 2012 at 5:51 pm

My favorite winter workout is skiing.. I live in New England so it’s a great activity to make the cold months go by a little quicker!

  32. Holly on December 12, 2012 at 5:51 pm

I like to run in the afternoon during the “cold” winters in San Diego.

  33. Ruthie on December 12, 2012 at 5:52 pm

Ice skating! It may not be of a high intensity, but I figure going for 5 hours straight (I could keep it up all day) I’m burning enough calories to consider it a workout! :p

  34. Melissa on December 12, 2012 at 5:53 pm

I’ve always been a swimmer, so that is my favorite “all-season” workout. Although, running has been working it’s way up my list…even in cold, snowy weather!

  35. Ruthie on December 12, 2012 at 5:53 pm

    . . . aannnd I’ve been a Youtube subscriber of yours a while now.

  36. Kelli on December 12, 2012 at 5:53 pm

I love to run in the winter. The colder the better, because I never feel like I’m going to overheat & the cold air in my lungs feels so invigorating.

  37. Kelsey Y. on December 12, 2012 at 5:54 pm

Hoodies are definitely a MUST in Duluth, MN, and I love adding them to my collection. After a workout rut at the start of this year, I strived for a month to stay consistent with workouts. My goal at the end? A lululemon Scuba hoodie!

Now my favorite winter workouts are cardio and short strength workouts; just trying to get a burn in! This year I’m hoping to amp up strength, and start training for my first half-marathon! This would definitely help with winter training!

When it’s cold out (which, here in my part of CA, means about 40F), I LOVE doing sprint workouts! Throw in some chin ups, jump squats, and ab work at the end…bam, full body workout plus HIIT, all in about 45-50 minutes.
