Finally fits

Hope your Friday has been this kinda awesome:

Hair band

(A hair band the Pilot saw in Cali. I looooove 80s bands. There’s one in Tucson that plays -or used to play?- at the Cactus Moon on Tuesday nights. Lots of Bon Jovi, which makes me happy)

Breakfast:

Egg sandwich

(2 eggs, brown rice toast, salsa)

Today was gloriously relaxing, which is a good thing since my Saturdays are so crazy. I have world beat and Zumba tomorrow -amaaaazzing- so it’s nice to take it easy. Livi and I played and hung out, I worked on Summer Shape Up stuff while she napped, and my friend Emily came over for lunch.

This afternoon, I figured we’d go run a little errand to the jewelry store.

As far as getting back into post-baby shape goes, I wanted to wear my jeans again one day, but it wasn’t my main concern. The clothes in my closet could wait, especially since I live in workout clothes most of my life anyway.. and they’re nice and stretchy 😉

Something I COULDN’T WAIT to wear again:

Ring

my wedding rings!

I still can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I’ve worn them.

While I was preg, people would look at my belly and immediately look to my ring finger to see if I was married (nice, huh?). I was going to get a band to wear in the meantime but ended up not wanting to spend the dollas, so I’ve been patiently waiting to wear my rings again. I tried to put them on a couple of times in the past few months, once incident ended with me screaming, running my finger under water, said finger turned a purplish color and the Pilot had to set me free.

My Mother’s Day gift was to get them re-sized, so I figured I’d wear the rings up higher on my finger to the jewelry store. They slid right on! So exciting.

Since Liv and I wear already packed up and ready to go, we went down to the mall instead to enjoy the AC and walk around. The Pilot met us there for smoothies.

At the mall

I tried the Berry UpBEET Jamba Juice smoothie… was not a fan. I drank about half of it because I was thirsty, but not my fave.

The Pilot went to pick up dinner while I came home to put the little one to bed:

Berry chicken salad

(Best salad with greens, walnuts, chicken, strawberries, blueberries and poppyseed dressing)

The rest of the night looks a little like this:

Kindle and candles

Kindle and candles on the patio 🙂 (Note of 50 Shades of Grey: I had to take a break. The awkwardness and horrible writing was killing me)

Hope your weekend is off to a wonderful start.

xoxo

Gina

Summer Shape Up heads up: Summer Shape Up 2012 starts MONDAY! I have a feeling it’s going to be the best one yet. I’ve been testing the workouts and kicked my own booty, so I really hope you love them, too.

All of the details will be up in Monday morning’s post, but for those of you who like to plan ahead, here’s what to expect:

-4 weeks of workouts, meal ideas and grocery suggestions. Workouts will be printable and I’ll also have some videos so you can see what the moves look like.

-ALL of the workouts can be done at home with minimal equipment. All you need need is a set of dumbbells or resistance bands (or water bottles/soup cans!), a stability ball and a bench or sturdy chair.

Use Sunday as a rest day and Monday for moderate steady state cardio (20, 30 or 45 minutes)

-The workout plan and calendar will be up Monday, so you’ll be able to plan out your workouts in advance and shuffle your schedule as necessary

Who’s joining in the fun? I’m excited to follow along with everyone and of course, be the biggest cheerleader 🙂

Question for ya: would you like to have a way to track your progress on the blog? Or something you can print out to check your progress? Let me know what you think or any ideas that would make it easier for you.

Awesome! Can’t wait to see what you come up with..

  2. Ali on June 9, 2012 at 12:24 am

Man, that must have sucked not being able to wear your rings. Sad about the smoothie! It is always a bit of a bummer to buy something that you don’t like.

  3. Jen on June 9, 2012 at 12:24 am

So excited for summer shape up! Would love a print out to track progress 😀

  4. Mandy M on June 9, 2012 at 12:27 am

So excited for the new workouts! I would love some way of holding myself accountable (maybe for my eats even more than my workouts) so that would be great. Maybe if you could manage some kind of daily check-in in the comments or something to print off would be great as well.
As always, thanks for doing this for all of us!
So, per the above (I do love to plan ahead, so thank you) I should do some steady state cardio Mon morning if the plan hasn’t been posted yet? I love to get my wo done in the am.

    • Fitnessista on June 9, 2012 at 12:29 am

yep, exactly! just do your workout in the am (steady state) and then be ready for the week 1 workout on tuesday 🙂
i love the idea of daily check-ins- thank you!

I am so excited! I’ve been waiting patiently… okay, I’ve been waiting… for your Summer Shape Up! I’d love a way to track and share progress with other participants. Exciting… And Monday’s my birthday, too! 🙂

  7. Nikki on June 9, 2012 at 12:40 am

That’s so refreshing to hear about 50 Shades of Grey!! All I’ve heard it how addictive it is, but I’ve remained skeptical about its literary merits!

  8. alicia on June 9, 2012 at 12:43 am

I will be joining for sure! I need it badly. I’ve been doing ww and have lost 5 lbs. But, I’ve been slacking at the gym and am scared it was muscle loss. Either way, I’m ready to get down to biznass! It would be fun to post a comment for each day of the program, assuming we all start and follow the calendar. I’m actually sad that 50 shades stinks! I was really looking forward to loving it, but I’m 3/4ths done and do not plan on downloading the second book.

  9. Maria on June 9, 2012 at 12:48 am

I’ve never participated in a Shape Up series before, but I’m excited about this one! I have a new gym, new shoes and finally, new motivation.

Also, I don’t know how you went a YEAR without your rings! I’d feel so naked and freak out when I forget mine just going to the grocery store. Glad you are reunited and shame on those people for looking at your belly, then your ring finger…

  10. Lani on June 9, 2012 at 12:49 am

Gina, that’s so funny about Fifty Shades of . . . . I loved your comments.
I have not read it, but only skimmed it in the store and knew it wasn’t going to be my cup of tea. But my friend also said the writing is excruciatingly bad. Life’s too short for lame books!
    Happy Friday!

  11. Morgan on June 9, 2012 at 12:49 am

I’m so excited for summer shape up!! A way to track my progress would be fabulous! Also, I have resistance bands and 2lbs weights… would you recommend a heavier set of weights?

  12. Corrie Anne on June 9, 2012 at 12:52 am

Yay!! I’m excited for the shape up!!

  13. Tracy G on June 9, 2012 at 1:00 am

Sounds great! Are the meal plans up somewhere? I would probably do better with printouts just for an in my face option. If I don’t look at it online, it won’t be in my face.

  14. Sana on June 9, 2012 at 1:07 am

Your weddings rings are so lovely!

  15. Abby on June 9, 2012 at 1:09 am

Will my 5lb hand weights suffice/be heavy enough? Also what would determine how long we do our steady state cardio for? Just personal fitness level? (sorry I’m slightly ocd when it comes to structure/details haha) also would love having a way to check in and track workouts and progress with everyone else, sounds fun!

  16. Amy @ Our Four Letter Words on June 9, 2012 at 1:11 am

I’m going to attempt it, I will most likely have to make some modifications to honor my injury but hopefully for Summer Shape Up 2013 I won’t have to do any modifications.

  17. Crystal on June 9, 2012 at 1:17 am

Your wedding rings are so pretty 🙂

A way to track progress is nice…it helps to have some structure in a workout plan, at least for me. I’ve never done one of your shape-ups before, but I’m excited to try it this summer. Especially since I can do the workouts at home. Love your blog 🙂

  18. Averie @ Averie Cooks on June 9, 2012 at 1:24 am

Glad you’re able to sport your bling again 🙂 Congrats!

  19. Liz on June 9, 2012 at 1:27 am

Cactus Moon! Haven’t been there since UA a few years ago, used to love Wednesday’s ladies nights. How times have changed since I’m now commenting on blog on a Friday night instead of getting down to some country at a cheesy (yet awesome) bar.

But seriously…is there anything better than country and hip-hop in one bar? I think not.

  20. Sam on June 9, 2012 at 1:36 am

Aw Livi is just the cutest thing!!

  21. Alexis on June 9, 2012 at 1:45 am

Ahhh don’t like berry upbeet?? That’s my absolute favorite one!

  22. Eucalya on June 9, 2012 at 2:35 am

your salad looks absolutely delicious! I’m might be trying your summer shape up but as i have some exams right now it’s not the best moment… but will try it anyways!

  23. Meredith on June 9, 2012 at 2:45 am

YAY for the rings!!! So happy for you 🙂 How far did you get in Fifty Shades? Maybe you got there already, but the addictiveness only starts once you get to the first get-it-on session. From there, THEN you can’t put it down…just my opinion 🙂 hubby is next to me reading it right now.

  24. Amber on June 9, 2012 at 4:32 am

Must be great to finally get to wear your ring again!

Question: i’ve been incorporating some Insanity in my workout routine – and i need to get some new shoes for them and other plyometric workouts. What would you recommend? I’m a nike girl and was thinking of getting Nike Free’s? Would those work you think? Thanks!

  25. Jess on June 9, 2012 at 4:58 am

You look fab! Not at all like you just had a baby! That is awesome about your rings, I developed a crazy allergy to mine after I had my girls. I didn’t even know it was possible to be allergic.

  26. Lauren on June 9, 2012 at 6:22 am

I remember that glorious day when my rings fit again! 😉 congrats!!

  27. Courtney @ Outrunning Insecurities on June 9, 2012 at 6:42 am

I would love to participate in the Summer Shape Up because I’m always up for shaking things up, but I’m following a training plan for a half marathon right now so it’s not exactly in the cards at the moment. I’d love to the see the meal ideas and grocery suggestions though. Sometimes I get so lost on what I want to get at the grocery store that I just need some direction, so I’m sure that they would be a great help 🙂

  28. Katie @ Pop Culture Cuisine on June 9, 2012 at 7:05 am

I have read along with your shape ups in the past, but never actually followed along. I’m thinking this is going to be a great option for me as a mommy to a 9 month old who also works 3 days a week. While I still make it to the gym on my days off, it would be really nice to have another option I can easily do at home! Can’t wait! I would love a print out to keep track of the workouts…I like to write things down ;)!

  29. Melissa on June 9, 2012 at 7:05 am

    Hi Gina,
Could you post the eating part of it this weekend so that we can get ready/ go grocery shopping for the week?
    Thanks!

  30. nay on June 9, 2012 at 7:12 am

Very excited about summer shape up 2012. If its anything like the previous “schweaty workouts” then i am definitely in for a booty kickin’ 🙂

  31. Samantha @ My Full Life on June 9, 2012 at 7:23 am

I had been wondering about your rings! I couldn’t wear mine the last few weeks of my pregnancy but squeezed into them about a week later (2 weeks ago) and was worried I’d never get them off. Now they’re loose 🙂

  32. Jess on June 9, 2012 at 7:24 am

Any chance there.will be modifications? Just got the ok for workouts after a c-section.

  33. Danielle@cleanfoodcreativefitness on June 9, 2012 at 7:30 am

Can’t wait to see what you come up with for Summer Shape Up! I always love the nutrition piece you add into it!

  34. Melissa Hernandez on June 9, 2012 at 7:34 am

I think it would be amazing if you could post some kind of tracker for everyone to keep up with. I know I personally do better when others are motivating me. Can’t wait to get started. Had my second little man almost four months ago and could really use motivation/a booty kick 🙂 Thanks for all you do!!!!!

  35. AK on June 9, 2012 at 7:35 am

Great! My gym is starting a summer game monday (basically 6 weeks to lose weight and get fit). So starting Monday count me in….

  36. Jena on June 9, 2012 at 8:40 am

BEAUTIFUL rings! How many are on there? It looks like more than the traditional engagement ring and band…. What are the other rings for if you don’t mind my asking:) I’m sure there’s a nice story behind them!

  37. Alexandra on June 9, 2012 at 8:47 am

Ahhh I cannot wait for the summer shape up! This could not have come at a better time – THANK YOU !!

  38. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on June 9, 2012 at 8:47 am

I would be pretty happy about getting those gorgeous rings on again, too!!

  39. Pamela on June 9, 2012 at 9:04 am

so excited for this summer shape-up! I’ve used the past shape-ups as starting points for work-outs, but I think I might follow this one to a tee!

  40. jameil on June 9, 2012 at 9:52 am

I’d love something to print out! Can you also do an explainer of what all the terms mean for people new to your blog? Or link to where you’ve explained it before? I get plenty of cardio in but I really really need a strength plan! Exciting!

  41. Chelsa on June 9, 2012 at 10:13 am

You are such a fit mom and I love it! That salad looks so good too 🙂

  42. Tara on June 9, 2012 at 10:21 am

Can’t wait for summer shape up! I did the winter shape up and saw sooo much difference. Can’t wait to see what booty kicking you have in store for me next Gina! 😀

  43. stacy seratt on June 9, 2012 at 11:14 am

I can’t wait! I just told my husband that I wanted to sit down with him this weekend to change my workouts for the summer and set some goals since I don’t have a run to train for until Aug. Can’t wait to see what you come up with! PS I finished Catching Fire (2nd Hunger Games) in less than 24hrs. On to the third one….

  44. Ruthie on June 9, 2012 at 11:17 am

Awesome, appreciate the heads up on what to expect next week — so thoughtful of ya! Thanks for all the work you put into it; I’m looking forward to doing my very first Shape Up!!

  45. SJ on June 9, 2012 at 11:24 am

I’m totally in on the summer shape up! I would love having something to track the workouts though- it would help me stay on track and see my progress!

  50. Stephanie @ Legally Blinde on June 9, 2012 at 12:57 pm
