First Pump

Kinda looks like “fist pump” Winking smile

Hey friends hey Smile How are you? Hope your morning has been lovely.

Since I was pretty stuffed from cookie dough and a hummus sandwich last night, I just needed a little sumthin’ sumthin’ for dinner.

Tea:

tea

(ginjah!)

and spaghetti squash that my nana donated to the food stash Smile

squash

I topped the pasta squash with TJs marinara sauce and nutritional yeast.

For those of you guys who haven’t tried spaghetti squash or are a little intimidated, it’s super easy.

Just cut off the ends and make a long cut down the middle

clean out the stringy innards and seeds

squash (2)

place face down on a cookie sheet with 1 in of water

bake for about 45 minutes at 375, adding more water about halfway through

squash (3)

shred into pasta-esque strands using a fork and top to your liking Smile

squash (4)

Deeeeelish.

This morning, my work friends and I are doing double workout aerobic classes together, so I packed up a breakfast cookie and this beauty for carbs in between:

goo

It’s MY FIRST BODYPUMP CLASS EVER! I know that Julie, Tina and Katy are fans so I ‘m really stoked about it. From what I gather, it’s a choreographed weights class with a different track for each muscle group. Usually I do the weights thang on my own or with a friend, so it’s definitely new for me to do it in a class setting.

Have you tried BodyPump before?

Other to-dos:

-Make macaroons (I predict a giveaway in the near future…)

-Film 5 minute workout video (we’re doing yoga style this week)

-Start Christmas shopping? Nahh, I work better under pressure Winking smile

Well I’m off to do the workout thang and I’ll see ya later!

xoxo

Gina

Have fun with your workout! When I belonged to a gym last year, I did a similar class to BodyPump (it was basically the same thing, but with a different name which represented the gym) and loved it!!!

Spaghetti squash is even easier in the microwave (if you’re not adverse)..no trying to cut through that beast. You just poke it a few times, stick in the microwave whole. Heat for 4 min at a time and rotate inbetween. By about 12 minutes, you have a spag squash that you can easily slice down the middle and then you remove the ‘guts’ and fork away! Nom!

Hope you have a fun workout. Looking forward to the 5 minute workout video! 🙂

Love Love Love all of the Les Mills brand workouts! My old gym had them and I loved it so much I became a certified instructor for Body Pump. It’s different from basic sculpt classes, yet choreographed to the music. Nice change. You should try the Body Combat as well, it’s their kickboxing class which was another of my faves! Too bad my new gym doesn’t have Les Mills… I sure do miss it! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!!!

  12. Jena on December 21, 2010 at 11:31 am

Unfortunately there aren’t any Body Pump classes offered at the gyms near me, but I’ve been rocking the strength training at home thing, which is fun, too.

  17. Jenn @ LiveWellFitNow on December 21, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Oh I love me some Body Pump! Such a fun way to strength train and gets you out of that weight room (’cause we all know sometimes we don’t want to go there). 🙂

  18. Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) on December 21, 2010 at 12:03 pm

The spagh squash tutorial will be remembered b/c people ask me how to do it. Now I can just say, see Gina’s post 🙂

Body Pump…I used to do it years ago. It was fun b/c my friend was the instructor. She went on to get certified to teach teachers how to teach it and traveled around the country. Good memories from back in the day 🙂

    Have a fun class!

  19. OntarioGirl on December 21, 2010 at 12:04 pm

I LOOOOVE Body Pump! Just got back from a class actually…I’ve been going for about 3 months now twice a week and am amazed with the new muscle definition I have! I’ve always loved lifting weights but it’s definitely fun to do it in a class setting and I find I push myself harder.
I think I’ve only commented on your blog once before but I read multiple times a day and just wanted to say I really love your blog 🙂

  20. Felicia (A taste of Health with Balance) on December 21, 2010 at 12:08 pm

  21. Michelle on December 21, 2010 at 12:10 pm

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Bodypump! I’m basically addicted to all Les Mills classes! You should also give Bodystep a try. Bodyattack is also really good (lots of plyometrics). Hope you enjoy it!

  22. Heather (Heather's Dish) on December 21, 2010 at 12:32 pm

i have wanted to try body pump for a year and a half now…but just can’t spend the $$$ for classes at a gym! i can’t wait to hear how you like it 🙂

  23. Casey on December 21, 2010 at 12:32 pm

I love BodyPump! The class goes by fast and I can tell such a difference in my muscles, plus the instructors are fun and motivating. I hope you enjoy it Gina!

  24. Amanda (Eating Up) on December 21, 2010 at 12:37 pm

I can’t wait to hear if you like Body Pump or not! I feel like it largely depends on what kind of music is played haha!

  25. Ashley on December 21, 2010 at 12:41 pm

I’ve never made a spaghetti squash I’ll have to try it. Macaroon giveway what!?!?! I want some!

  26. Laura @ Backstage Pass on December 21, 2010 at 12:43 pm

You are going to LOVE Body Pump! I tried it for the 1st time last week, and really like a) the fun, pop music tracks b) the choreography and c) the great, total-body workout! The squat and lunge tracks almost did me in, though. I did a full hour of Zumba after my Body Pump class and was j-e-l-l-o. I should have brought an energy gel! Have fun 🙂

  27. Darcy on December 21, 2010 at 12:43 pm

Yay for Body Pump! I’ll be interested to find out if you like it & what you think about it. I’ve been teaching Pump for well over a year & totally love it! In fact, I just wrote a little FAQ about Pump on my website (what to expect, what to wear, weights to use, etc). Here’s the link: http://darcyknoblich.com/2010/12/14/meet-my-friend-body-pump/

  28. Laura on December 21, 2010 at 12:44 pm

I really like Body Pump and always do it when I go back home to my mom’s house (they don’t have Body Pump in SF). You will be sore and feel good. The triceps track gets me and always make sure to load up on the lunges and squats.

  29. Kendall on December 21, 2010 at 12:46 pm

I love Body Pump! I recently started going because of those three ladies and how much they praise it. It’s so much fun and it’s a fantastic and fun whole body workout class. 🙂 It’s also nice to have someone else lead you through a weight routine and not have to think about what you’re doing next.

  30. Katie on December 21, 2010 at 12:48 pm

When I saw the title to this post, I knew you were going to be talking about Body Pump! I love the class! I just had my 5:30am class this morning. It was lovely. I’ve done the weight thing on my own, but I like having other people around me, not to mention the pumping to the music. That’s ALWAYS fun! Hope you had a good time!

  31. Christin@purplebirdblog on December 21, 2010 at 12:54 pm

I totally read it as fist pump! And I can’t wait for your yoga video! My style! 🙂

i love spaghetti squash, its so exciting! I love that one pasta place in my city will actually substitute the pasta for spaghetti squash, but its the one and only place that has that option.

  38. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun on December 21, 2010 at 1:12 pm

Can’t wait to hear how you like Body Pump! I’ve done it for awhile too and like it…although I still don’t think anything compares to doing my own thing. I love the pump of doing my own weights routines.

  39. Mimi on December 21, 2010 at 1:14 pm

I’m going to Power Pump (my town’s version) today for the first time. We’re twins!

  40. Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers on December 21, 2010 at 1:29 pm

when i saw “first pump” come up in my google reader i immediately thought “i wonder if she’s trying bodypump?” HOORAY! i hope you love it as much as i do! i’m excited to hear your thoughts. 🙂

  41. AJ on December 21, 2010 at 1:30 pm

I love body pump, its a great way to jazz up weight routines. Personally, I don’t last more than a couple weeks in any strength routine, I just get bored doing it over and over in the same weight room.

  42. Ari on December 21, 2010 at 1:34 pm

I LoVe Body pump! I took one for the first time a few weeks ago and I had a hard time walking afterwards =] TOTALLY worth it!

  43. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on December 21, 2010 at 1:36 pm

BodyPump is on my list of things to try while I’m home, so I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!! Have fun!

  44. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on December 21, 2010 at 1:45 pm

I hope you have fun at Body Pump! I teach in a gym where all the Les Mills classes (including Body Pump) are taught. If you ever get a chance to do Body Jam, you MUST! It’s like a hip hop class and I’m pretty sure you’d love it!

  45. Dani_szikszai on December 21, 2010 at 1:46 pm

I love Body Pump, i do it about 3 times a week alternating with cardio. I was intimidated by it at first but I am so glad that I tried it now 🙂

I wish we got spaghetti squash in Australia

  46. Alice on December 21, 2010 at 1:51 pm

I adore body pump and am currently training to be an instructor. Try Body Attack too! I like to describe it as being aerobic dance, which is right up your alley! It is so much fun!
    xx

  47. Alice on December 21, 2010 at 1:52 pm

Oh and also…have you heard of body balance? A blend of ti-chi, yoga and pilates! It is truly beautiful!
