Friday faves

Erin Condren planner. I can’t believe I haven’t written about this yet! I’m in love with this planner. Not only does it separate each day into morning and afternoon, but it also has pockets, custom stickers and birthday/anniversaries. I also love the inspirational quotes scattered throughout the book.

A photography lesson. I was able to get some tips from the fabulous Jacquelynn Buck (she took our family Christmas photos!). It’s amazing that erm, after 4 years after owning a DSLR, I finally know what it’s capable of doing. I’m excited to practice and get the hang of everything she taught me! Hopefully you’ll be able to see a difference in my photos eventually 😉 I just checked my email, and she kindly offered to guest post with some photography tips! If you have any questions for her, shout them out in the comments 🙂

After the lesson, I stopped by a local nursery to check out the succulent collection. It makes sense to get a new plant the day before movers come to pack up your house.

More faves from the week:

14 most terrifying childhood hairstyles. (Guilty of #5. Heh heh)

Active moms and active kiddos are suggested to be linked.

Hilarious workplace notes.

A feature in Reebok’s Rally Magazine! I was so excited to be included in their Blogger Essentials roundup.

Reebok rally 1 of 1

Life lessons to excel in your 30s.

15 workouts you can easily do at home.

What are you up to this weekend? Please tell me something exciting/random/anything to take my mind off the fact that our house is being packed up.

    LOVE my Erin Condren planner!

    • Tamara on March 28, 2014 at 3:48 pm

I always have problems with white balance when photographing indoors. So frustrating!

I have a planner like that but it’s family sized *the size of a calendar* and it was essential trying to keep a household running.

Moving off base myself and I feel your pain 🙂

  2. Angie on March 28, 2014 at 11:40 am

I have the exact same planner and I can’t imagine my life without it, such a big help to keep all of my random notes in one place. Plus pretty always helps 😀

  3. Mariah on March 28, 2014 at 11:44 am

I got so excited when I saw you featured in the Essentials Roundup. I was like “hey, I read her blog!”

    • JG on March 28, 2014 at 11:55 am

      Me too!

  4. Lauren on March 28, 2014 at 11:44 am

The three songs you mentioned in your feature are my top three songs to work out to right now 🙂 great taste!

I too am packing up my house to move this weekend, stress! Good luck. And take a look at the Calming Manatee: http://calmingmanatee.com/

My Mom had emergency heart surgery this week so I’m headed to arctic WI to be with her. It feels like the longest week I my life.

  7. Dede on March 28, 2014 at 12:05 pm

Nothing exciting, sorry, can’t distract you. 🙂 Good luck with the move.

Those plants looked lovely but I kill every one I get my hands on. Every. One. I even killed a cactus once. How do you do that?

I was looking at some older blog entries of yours yesterday and found the one where you and the pilot broke the futon. Wheeee. Fun times! Seems like only yesterday; hard to believe it was that long ago!

  8. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on March 28, 2014 at 12:06 pm

Oh yay! I’m excited to see her tips. I still use my DSLR on the pre-sets so if she has any tips on how to start using the advanced settings that would be awesome!! Also, framing shots? Very cool!

Absolutely nothing exciting happening at my house. Lots of rest and TV this weekend I think!

  9. Courtney Munoz on March 28, 2014 at 12:20 pm

I had a EC planner 2 years ago, I did like it, just not the price. I’m also not as busy as you. 😉

I keep forgetting we were at the same base, and to this day I’m still sad we never met in person. I did have a 31 party that Jacquelynn came to. Her husband worked with my friend Vanrell’s husband. Small world.

Did you guys ever find a renter for the house?

    • Fitnessista on March 28, 2014 at 12:23 pm

i felt like with how many notebooks i go through in a year, it was worth it haha.
that is so cool that you’ve met her before! it’s a small world 🙂

Fun Weekend Plan: Saturday “Buddah Brunch” at GZen in Branford, CT! The owners/chefs
are a married couple who grow a lot of the food. 100% organic, locally grown (like, down the street local) foods along with organic beer and wine. Looking at the website I want ALL THE FOOD! lol. 😉

    • Fitnessista on March 29, 2014 at 6:40 pm

that sounds like my heaven 🙂

  12. Nicole on March 28, 2014 at 12:24 pm

Glad to hear you enjoyed your photo lesson! I have been reading blogs and bought a book on photography but I’ve never had a class and I think I would really benefit from it. I’d love to hear her thoughts on which good lenses to start out with. I’m dying to get a telephoto lens, but don’t want to make the wrong decision because they’re so expensive.

A succulent before you move is a great idea, haha 🙂 I’ve been wanting to do a little succulent terrarium for a while, I think they’re so pretty.

I have no plans for this weekend right now, the weather forecast is saying it will be raining most of the weekend. I was thinking of trying out a new yoga studio. I also have to catch up on Scandal.

  14. Marita on March 28, 2014 at 12:30 pm

I would love some photography tips on what lenses are best for beginners and more intermediate photographers, what program to use for editing, and tips on aperture!

  15. Kim @ FITsique on March 28, 2014 at 12:39 pm

I need that planner! Stickers would make all the difference in my daily planning life 🙂 A photography post would be great. I don’t own a DSLR so any tips that would make pictures with a less fancy camera look good would be helpful! I have NOTHING exciting to tell you for my weekend. Unfortunately its full of work and studying, but I will hopefully get some good workouts and froyo in 🙂

    Hi Gina,

Congratulations on the great coverage in the Reebok magazine.

I read the “how to excel in your 30s” link, and since I just turned 30 a bit ago, it really resonated with me. Thanks for sharing that.

Something to distract you? Have you seen a recent pic of Britney Spears? She is in great shape right now, and that makes me happy for her!

    Best,
    Ashley

An exciting thing happening this weekend for me is my bridal shower! It’s supposed to snow here in Indiana tonight, so hopefully the weather is good for traveling tomorrow! Good luck packing!

I live in Evanston, the first norther suburb of Chicago so I spend a lot of time in the city on the weekends. Recently a new gourmet Italian cafeteria/food court opened in the River North neighborhood, appropriately name, Eataly! They have a Nutella restaurant! With all items being made with nutella. O.M.G. I’ll be there all weekend haha

Oh mann…I am not looking forward to PCSing..whenever that may be. I can’t take your mind off the move, but I do have to say that your blog is definitely giving me a taste of what the military spouse life is going to be like.

I love that you refer to your husband as the Pilot…(my boyfriend is a pilot for the navy.) And reading your posts has really helped me!! So thank you!

Good luck with your move! I hope you love your new base!

Something i’m excited about for this weekend is getting to go play with a penguin at the zoo! They are my favorite, and my husband got this really cool experience for my 30th bday! I’m about to read your excelling in your 30’s article now! Have a great weekend!

  26. Lisa on March 28, 2014 at 1:52 pm

i bought a DSLR before a big vacation to europe but of course had no idea what i was doing and spent way too much time adjusting settings and wondering why pictures were too bright. On cloudy days its the hardest.

is there maybe a quick sheet i can refer to, to print and have in my camera bag?

I have my second laser hair removal session this weekend. Im so nervous, my friends say it gets more painful each time!

    • Fitnessista on March 29, 2014 at 6:37 pm

how’d it go? i’m obsessed, and i’m the biggest wuss when it comes to things like that. the place i go to has a laser that blasts cold air at you, so all you feel is the cold! it’s amazing

      • Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on March 29, 2014 at 9:39 pm

I wish that mine would blast cold air! It hurt a lot! haha But it will be worth it in the end.

  38. Sarah on March 28, 2014 at 4:33 pm

Definitely have questions for her about photography! I have a DSLR and the photos come out beautifully when there is a lot of natural light, but what are the best settings for taking photos indoors?

This weekend I’m helping out with some demonstrations at the local science museum as part of an outreach thing my grad program is doing. Other than that, planning on cooking up some healthy brownies, doing a 5 mile run on Sunday, and trying to stay within my calorie goals, as weekends are a time when I tend to over-do it..

  41. Mia on March 28, 2014 at 5:12 pm

Those succulent photos look great already!

  42. Justina on March 28, 2014 at 5:16 pm

That’s where I first found you was in the Reebok catalog I got in the mail last month! And then I ordered some cute workout clothes of course! I think you had the best blog out the four ladies featured in that article 🙂

  45. Fancy on March 29, 2014 at 12:25 am

I have a question…will you do a post on how you use your planner? I am obsessed with my Erin Condren and absolutely love seeing the other ways other people use theirs! Seeing a glimpse of the inside of yours and how you organize your days/weeks/months would be so interesting!

    • Fitnessista on March 29, 2014 at 6:35 pm

sure, i’ll post some of my pages! 🙂

Nothing exciting happening over here, spending the weekend recouping from having the hubs gone all last week for business and leaving me with the crazy 3 year old and prepping for him to be gone again next week. A lot of daddy time for the boy and some quality alone time for me.
Just want to let you know, now that you are using movers for this move, you will never want to do it yourself again! It is amazing, my last house was 4000 sq ft and in 2 days it was all in a truck. We have used movers on our last 4 moves (provided by the hubs company) and I never want to move on our own ever again!

    • Fitnessista on March 29, 2014 at 6:35 pm

i’m already really impressed with the movers! they can’t pack on the weekends, but finished almost our entire house in one day 🙂
