Friday Lovin’

Hey friends! Happy Friday! Aaaaaaand happy, happy royal wedding day 🙂 Can you believe I slept through it? No DVR –it’s in the POD, along with my life- and it wasn’t possible to wake up at 3am and not be a zombie today. I’m relying on the constant day coverage and E! to catch me up 😀

On the other hand, Miss Bella isn’t the least bit excited about royal wedding festivities:

bell

Yawn.

bell (2)

Hahaha.

So it’s been a little while since I’ve done a “Things I’m Loving” type post- no time like the present, eh?

1. Physique 57

physique

If we had a studio close by, Physique would be my workout of choice (you can read about the classes I’ve taken *here in NY* and *here in LA*). It will burn your thighs, abs and life unlike anything I’ve ever tried, but I never feel too exhausted afterwards- the kind where you feel like you can’t finish the day. I always feel great and pleasantly sore.

physique

My friends and Physique were so sweet to hook me up with the DVDs, so I can do the workouts at home. I’m really excited to try them on my non-teaching days.

2. The olive pitter!

olive

I can eat olives again!!! 😉

It’s kind of a pain to peel the “meat” off the olives- I always get it stuck under my nails, which looks a little uncouth- and maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the pre-pitted ones don’t taste as good? This handy gadget was $13 at Williams-Sonoma, and it works for cherries, too. Summer cherries are just around the corner- I can’t wait 🙂

3. Buxom eyeliner by Bare Escentuals

eyeliner

My new makeup obsession. It can smudge if you want smoky eyes, or you can use the sharpener (which is in the lid) to make a thinner, more precise line. Eyeliner is the one piece of makeup, besides SPF, that I HAVE to wear everyday, and this is my new fave!!! It dries waterproof and doesn’t smudge- even after a long day at work or in the melting sun.

4. The salt lamp (still)

salt lamp

It just makes the bedroom feel so much more zen and peaceful. I love turning it on during a yoga practice or while I read before bed. I’d like to get another one.. or one of the GIANT ones. 😀

5. The new blog design!!! It launches Monday- I really hope ya all like it as much as I do 🙂

New header preview:

image

(There’s more to it, but that’s the text part)

I just munched a quick breakfast smoothie:

smoothie

-1.5 C almond milk

-1 frozen banana

-frozen organic strawberries

-1 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior

-cinnamon, vanilla, raw cacao powder

-cacao nibs on top

and am off to Day 3 at the new j-o-b.  😀 It’s only a half day, so I think a massage may need to happen after.

See ya this afternoon!

xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: What are some things you’re loving right now? Also, massage, nails or facial? If I have to choose, massage always wins.

I think massage would win for me too, closely followed by facial. The new blog header looks great! I’m going to be getting a blog renovation in the next couple of months and I’m super excited about it. Right now, I’m loving your photos of Bella, watermelon (yup, I’m addicted and the ones so far that I’ve purchased have been so juicy!), and the fact that today is Friday which means the weekend is almost here!!!! 🙂 Have fun on j-o-b day 3 Gena!

Take care and have a fun day!

  21. Jaime on April 29, 2011 at 10:52 am

definitely massage!!!! I can’t get enough of those. Some things I’m loving lately: brussels sprouts (been eating them like there’s no tomorrow), Redken & Pureology shampoos and conditioners, Origins Modern Friction (a gentle home microdermabrasion), boot camp, running outside, spinning, weight lifting, polar seltzer, and last but certainly not least lululemon – I will NOT tell you how much $$$ I’ve spent there over the past few months. I know you understand 😉

  22. Amanda on April 29, 2011 at 10:52 am

my latest lovin’s are Hawaiian sweet potatoes (white outside, purple inside, pure delicious), my mani from yesterday (essie baby’s breath + marshmallow), and sunshine for the weekend!!

    Cutest doggy stretch picture ever!

  26. Bridget on April 29, 2011 at 11:00 am

Love this post and discussion topic. The best way to find new favorites is from someone who already uses/owns/admires them! Eyeliner is key. I will be on the hunt for the Buxom one. Thanks! Also, who makes your pale purple nail polish in that photo? Great color!

  27. Ali @ Around the VeggieTable on April 29, 2011 at 11:02 am

I definitely pick massage 🙂 Currently loving wheatberries, rosemary cookies, and my new lightweight cardigan in peach. I also love how pretty smoothies look with a glass straw…where do I find one of those bad boys?

  28. Len on April 29, 2011 at 11:03 am

    Im loving:
    1. Bikram Yoga- seriously obsessed.

    • Krystina (Organically Me) on April 29, 2011 at 1:12 pm

Have you tried millet bread? I like b.rice bread, but millet bread is the most face rockin’ bread EVER.

      • Len on April 29, 2011 at 1:26 pm

no but i keep meaning to get it… maybe after i finsih the brown rice one, ill get the millet. do you know if one is better than the other? in regrads to nutition stats that is…

        • Krystina (ORganically Me) on April 29, 2011 at 2:36 pm

I don’t think their nutritionals are much different at all. They’re both gluten-free and have similar stats. I find the millet bread to be nuttier and more dense, and since it’s my preferred grain, I enjoy the taste more.

        • Fitnessista on April 29, 2011 at 3:34 pm

they’re both very similar- i love them both!

  29. Faith @ lovelyascharged on April 29, 2011 at 11:04 am

Nails; a pedicure, more specifically. Walking to work always gets my poor feet so beaten up!

  30. Beth @ DiningAndDishing on April 29, 2011 at 11:06 am

so good to know about that olive pipper! i looove cherries and was trying to think of an easier way to get the pip out the whole time last summer! this will come in very handy :).

  31. brandi on April 29, 2011 at 11:14 am

we always buy whole olives and I just crack the pit out the same way I crush garlic! put them on a cutting board and slam on them with the flat side of a knife – it will crush the olive enough to get the pit out 🙂

  32. Ashley @ Feeding Ashley on April 29, 2011 at 11:14 am

Love the header! I can’t wait to see the new blog design. I prefer to get my nails done.

  33. katie on April 29, 2011 at 11:15 am

    Hey Gina,

I am between buying Physique 57 or Chalene’s Turbo Fire (just got done with my first round of insanity and need a change).

Which would you recommend buying? Did you enjoy one more than the other?

Thanks for the eyeliner shout out today too – i am always looking for versitile makeup products. Love your blog!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2011 at 3:38 pm

i haven’t done the dvds yet for physique but have taken the live classes. if you want more of a fun, dance-y upbeat workout do turbo. if you want a ballet style burn workout, go for physique

  34. Sarah K on April 29, 2011 at 11:23 am

    I love your nail polish.

  37. Erin @ Big Girl Feats on April 29, 2011 at 11:26 am

I’ve been switching up my blog design/self hosting and all that good stuff. Before, I was totally overwhelmed but with the help of a techy friend and old fashioned reading and frustration, it’s actually kind of fun now! Good luck!

That olive pitter is awesome! Love random gadgets like that 🙂

  38. mi-an on April 29, 2011 at 11:37 am

  39. Ivette on April 29, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Gina I have been reading your blog for about a month, and you are truly an inspiration. I just read for the first time your weight loss story, and it stuck a key with me. Just the motivation I needed to take my life back and do it not only for myself but for my son as well. I look forward to making healthier meal choices, and start our exercise regime. And also, the new design preview looks great! 🙂

  42. Emily on April 29, 2011 at 12:26 pm

I’ve heard such great things about Physique 57! I need to check out one of the classes here in LA.

My husband is a massage therapist. So that’s pretty nice 🙂

  43. stella on April 29, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Hey Gina I had a question about Physique57, i have the second volume too and i really love the workouts but i always feel pain in my lower back the next day.. i know that means i must be doing something wrong in my posture but how can i check this? i use a mirror and i try to do correct form but the next day my lower back is always sore.. do you have any ideas on how i can take the stress out of my lower back so i can really focus on my glutes (my problem area)? thanks so much for any input 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2011 at 3:36 pm

make sure that you’re not arching your back- keep a straight spine the whole time. arching my be causing that pain.

    • Physique 57 on April 29, 2011 at 4:24 pm

Stella, you should not be having lower back pain when doing our exercises. Make sure to keep your core (abdominals) engaged at all times and keep your tailbone dropped (tucked under). If you have any more questions feel free to email us at natasha@physique57.com.

  44. Cait @ Beyond Bananas on April 29, 2011 at 12:44 pm

Awesome header – I would agree with the massage too!
I am lovin’ sunflower seed butter. I just tried it last week.. and I may have gone through the entire jar already!

  45. Ashley on April 29, 2011 at 12:59 pm

I can’t wait to hear about the Physique DVD’s, please let us know how they are!

  46. Krystina (Organically Me) on April 29, 2011 at 1:09 pm

That picture of Bella yawning is SO CUTE!

Here are a few of my loves right now:

    – “For Audrey” nail polish by China Glaze. PERFECT for Spring.
    – The blossoming dogwood trees outside my apartment.
    – Kashi Go Lean! After my morning work outs, my bod wants some cold cereal.
    – Trader Joe’s 72% mini dark chocolate bars.
    – IRON PUMPING. I started doing it again for the first time since the summer and I LURVE it.

  47. Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food on April 29, 2011 at 1:48 pm

Love the header! A massage would always win in my book because I think the effects are longer-lasting and most beneficial! 🙂

  48. Chelsa on April 29, 2011 at 1:53 pm

I absolutely love physique 57 as well. It’s my favorite because it’s fun and burns like hell. I have the original dvds and I was going to order the new ones this week. I can’t wait!

  49. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on April 29, 2011 at 1:53 pm

    Love the header.

Also, massage, always. You could do your nails and give yourself a facial at home, but you need help when it comes to a nice deep-tissue massage.

  50. Meghan on April 29, 2011 at 2:03 pm

Ooo good to know about the physique 57 dvds! I have some but its been so long since I’ve used them that I forget all the moves – I’ll have to dust the cobwebs off them and given ’em a whirl! Bellas so cute – I love how expressive dogs can be 🙂
