“Grill it up” and a small giveaway

Hey everyone! Back to the grind, eh?? Hope your Monday is treating ya well so far ๐Ÿ˜€

I felt a little off yesterday after Saturday nightโ€™s shenanigans but I was so happy to make dinner with the pilot. Weโ€™ve started a habit of grilling on Sunday nights and it feels like such a great way to start the week ๐Ÿ˜‰

We had sweet potato fries (seasoned with EVOO, sea salt, pepper, paprika and chili powder), veggie packs and baby bella mushrooms (with balsamic, sea salt, pepper and rosemary)

009

And the pilot plopped his organic grass-fed beef burgers in the middle. I almost cried happy tears when I saw that our Publix started carrying Greenwise meat because until now, Iโ€™ve had to get his carnivorous purchases out-of-town and freeze them. This makes life soooo much easier. He seasoned the burgers with jalapeno slices, worsteshechireshire sauce (does anyone else have difficulties with that word? I usually call it โ€œworstโ€ sauce), sea salt, pepper and stuffed them with pepper jack cheese.

010

Heโ€™s extra sweet about keeping his meat away from my veggies (TWSS?? Ahhhahaha). He uses separate spatulas everything! Whatta guy ๐Ÿ˜€

The finished product rocked my face off.

011

Zucchini, yellow squash, Campari tomatoes, asparagus

012

MUSHROOM! MUSHROOM!

013

Tater fries with Annieโ€™s ketchup:

014

We even grilled some jalapenos in a foil pack:

016

And I ate allllll of them >:) You know I like my spicy.

After dinner, we went to get a tour of a kennel here that Viesa is going to stay at while the pilot and I drive to Oklahoma City. My aunt is going to watch Bella, but since Viesa wants to eat my auntโ€™s yorkie, weโ€™re finding another place for her to stay since Megan (who is our Viesa-sitter) will be at school with me!! Lots of planning, but itโ€™s all working out so far.

Tonight, I finally made some of this:

017

Summer Shape Up winners, your macaroons are in the dehydrator ๐Ÿ˜€

018

Mmmmm, macaroony goodness.

019

Speaking of macaroonsโ€ฆโ€ฆ.

I just want to say thank you again for sticking with my bloggy post plastic surgery. It was a little weird getting everything switched over, and the Google reader disappearance, but now the bloggyโ€™s in recovery mode. Special thanks to all of you who helped me get the word out about the re-subscribe issue <3 I hope you know how much I adore each and every one of you and thank you for making this such a FUN place to talk about food, fitness, mumbo jumbo and everything else. I started the blog on a whim -and because the pilot told me to โ€œget a hobbyโ€- and you guys have turned it into something so enjoyable and rewarding. Ok, mush part over.

Now, who wants some macaroons??

All you have to do is leave a comment and let me know if youโ€™re a cake or ice cream person and what your favorite flavor is ๐Ÿ˜€

I love both dearly โ€“chances are that if something falls into the โ€œdessertโ€ category, Iโ€™m a fan- but Iโ€™m definitely a cake person. My favorite homemade cake is flourless chocolate but a la box, I love FUNFETTI!!

******Iโ€™ll use a random number generator tonight at 9 EST to pick the macaroon winner, who can choose from blonde, chocolate, or almond butter-stuffed macaroons.

Aight, Iโ€™m out. I have some errands to run but Iโ€™ll see ya for lunch!

xoxo,

G$

I like both! There is a birthday cake ice cream that is absolutely to die for made by Ashby’s Sterling. It’s a wonderful every once in a while treat.

I’ve never had a macaroon. They look fab!

  2. Amelia on August 24, 2009 at 10:29 am

My absolutely favorite dessert, hands down, is ice cream! My favorite flavor is Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby <3

  3. Tori Bennett on August 24, 2009 at 10:29 am

I love all sweets but my favs would have to be chocolate cupcakes and rocky road ice cream!

  4. Susan on August 24, 2009 at 10:30 am

Ooh! Maybe this is my chance to try some of your famous macaroons! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I actually don’t like cow’s milk or cream, and that includes ice cream! I know, I know. It just tastes funky to me. I also don’t care for regular cake, but I DO luuuurve cheesecake. I’ll eat any kind, but straight up New York style is my fave ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Meggilizz--Meggie's Munchies on August 24, 2009 at 10:31 am

    Your grillage looks AWESOME!!!!!

Cake or ice cream??? Hmmm that is defo a toughie!! I’ll say ice cream–my favorite ALL TIME flavor is mint chocolate chip, but my favorite current flavor is chocolate-peanut butter coconut milk ice cream ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Mary Richerson on August 24, 2009 at 10:31 am

Cake is definitely above ice cream for me (although I love ice cream). German Chocolate Cake is probably my favorite but I have been craving Carrot Cake for some time now. :))

  7. Lindsey (Mrs. LC) on August 24, 2009 at 10:32 am

I am seriously loving coconut ice creams. Mmm, mm, mmm! Although, now that you mention funfetti you just reminded me of a recent funfetti craving I couldn’t shake! Maybe I should make cupcakes for hubs to take to work and do a little “quality contorl” on one. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. Michelle C. on August 24, 2009 at 10:32 am

I love both cake and ice cream ๐Ÿ™‚ Ice cream fav’s are chocolate chip coffee or strawberry with fresh strawberries all mixed in and you can’t go wrong with carrot cake and cream cheese frosting yummmmmm.

  9. Danielle C. on August 24, 2009 at 10:33 am

I’m an ice cream cake girl, the best of both worlds! My favorite is Dairy Queen ice cream cake since it is almost all ice cream with a thin layer of cake. Chocolate all the way.

  10. Whit on August 24, 2009 at 10:35 am

I am a total ice cream person! MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP!

  11. Laura S on August 24, 2009 at 10:36 am

Ice Cream!!! I love frozen yogurt!! I think my favorite flavor would be peanut butter!!

  12. Fallon on August 24, 2009 at 10:37 am

Ice cream all the way!! You put a bowl in front of me and I’ll go to town on it. Never know when to stop! My favorite flavor would have to be chocolate. Chocolate is the best.

  13. Valerie on August 24, 2009 at 10:41 am

Definitely a cake person! Any flavor EXCEPT CHOCOLATE! The horror. I especially like spice cake and banana cake. Carrot cake is excellent as well.

  14. Maya on August 24, 2009 at 10:42 am

Cake! I love Boston Cream Pie ( I think it’s funny that it’s called a pie when it’s really more of a cake)

  15. Shari B. on August 24, 2009 at 10:43 am

I’ve gotta go with being a CAKE girl! My favorite cake is any cake served at a WEDDING!!! I don’t know why but wedding cakes always taste AMAZING to me – maybe the secret ingredient is all the love flowing around ๐Ÿ™‚

Gina, if you like Funfetti cake, you should try the recipe on the side for making them as cookies instead. They are KILLER! LOVE THEM!!!

Ohhhh so excited, I hope I win some famous macaroons!

Totally a cake person! Lemon cake with lemon icing :)Yum!

  17. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on August 24, 2009 at 10:44 am

Cake girl myself. Any flavor. I mean, you just can’t go wrong with chocolate cake but any cake will do. Your sweet potato fries look really good. I either burn things or leave them raw when I try to do them on the grill like that. Thanks for inspiring me to keep tryin’! We used to have dogs and finding a dog kennel you trust is so hard, isn’t it. Good luck!

  18. BethT on August 24, 2009 at 10:48 am

I’m really both, but if I had to pick one, I’d say I’m an ice cream person. My fave flavor is at a local ice cream shop – it’s called Grasshopper Pie and has a mint base with oreos and fudge.

  19. Alisson on August 24, 2009 at 10:48 am

Totally yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Simple and perfect.

  20. Dani A. on August 24, 2009 at 10:48 am

so hard to choose between them – but i adore pistachio gelato, and homemade angel food cake is my favorite cake!

  21. carolinebee on August 24, 2009 at 10:49 am

  22. ~carolyn~ on August 24, 2009 at 10:51 am

I am not really a cake person unless it is a cheesecake and I like ice cream, but I am on a total frozen yogurt kick…but my favorite ice cream is rocky road.

  23. Julia on August 24, 2009 at 10:51 am

We have something in common — I also adore funfetti cake!

  24. taylor b on August 24, 2009 at 10:52 am

I would have to go with ice cream although I adore cake. My favorite is this place from home that makes the ice cream from scratch and the best flavor is pumpkin – deelish!

  25. Emily on August 24, 2009 at 10:52 am

First, just wanted to say the new site is gorg!

I guess I’m more of an ice cream girl. Coconut milk ice cream, to be exact. And preferably chocolate, or straight up coconut. Although I did make some awesome vegan soy-free cupcakes this weekend!

    Thanks for another great giveaway!

  26. Emily MC on August 24, 2009 at 10:58 am

I’m sorry but I can’t eat my birthday cake with out ice cream! Soooooo I would say BOTH!!!!

  27. Katie K on August 24, 2009 at 11:01 am

  28. Caroline on August 24, 2009 at 11:01 am

Oh goodness, I can’t even choose… I think if pressed I’d be forced to say that a certain midnight cake (buttermilk chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse) from a bakery in my hometown that has been my birthday cake for a few years straight now…

  29. MareBare on August 24, 2009 at 11:02 am

I would say my favorite cake is the white kind with fresh berries in between the layers, i’m not sure if it has a name but i’ve had it at a few weddings and it was AWESOME! a la box- yellow cake with chocolate frosting ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. Danielle on August 24, 2009 at 11:02 am

MMM definitely cake. German Chocolate or of course funfetti! I love to make the funfetti in the giant cupcake mold. So Cute!

  31. Shannon Jones on August 24, 2009 at 11:03 am

I absolutely looove both (but I pretty much love anything swee!) My favorite kind of cake though is an ice cream cake with cookie dough ice cream and chocolate frosting ๐Ÿ™‚ Yummy

  32. allijag on August 24, 2009 at 11:06 am

I’m actually not a sweets person (although – I AM a macaroons person!) ๐Ÿ™‚ I usually pass on cake and icecream – and if I do have a craving – its for Mint/Chocolate ๐Ÿ™‚

I too – suffer the “worstesschiersjserlajdrslkfjslfj” curse. The word has like, I dont know, 75 syllables when I try to actually pronounce it ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on August 24, 2009 at 11:57 am

hahah glad you to know i’m not the only one ๐Ÿ˜‰

  33. katherine (the runner wife) on August 24, 2009 at 11:08 am

I love my mom’s cake – yellow cake with butter cream frosting that is out of this world. She used to teach cake decorating classes when I was a kid and she’d let me practice on graham crackers while she made cakes. YUM!

Since I can’t have cake every day though, I probably an ice cream girl – my favorite is definitely peppermint stick ice cream. You don’t have to add a thing to it and it’s divine!

  34. caronae on August 24, 2009 at 11:09 am

Hmmm…I love all desserts, so this is hard. I’d have to say cupcakes, since they’re a form of cake, but cuter!

  35. robyn on August 24, 2009 at 11:11 am

How about cake WITH ice cream? ๐Ÿ™‚ My favorites are carrot cake & chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream..but probably not those two together!

  36. Amanda on August 24, 2009 at 11:12 am

I love all desserts, but my fav of the two choices would have to be cake!!! While i do love my ice cream yellow cake with butter cream frosting has to be my fav! Thanks for the giveaway!

  37. heatherfeather on August 24, 2009 at 11:12 am

i’m not too big on dessert… i would have to pick ice cream over cake if i had to, but I would like to try your cookies- they look yummy!

  38. Katie on August 24, 2009 at 11:16 am

I am definitely an ice cream kinda gal! I have been dying to try the coconut milk ice cream you’ve had on your blog. My all time favorite flavor is mint chocolate chip!

My all time favorite ice cream is when I go to visit my grandparents…its an old time custard stand from the 50’s and it still opens up every summer. The lemon custard is to die for!!! mmmm I wish I had some now….

  42. arianna on August 24, 2009 at 11:20 am

Am I allowed to be both? I love yellow cake with chocolate buttercream frosting, and i also loooove red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. For ice cream, I love Argentine ice cream flavors, like the ones with dulce de leche.

COPYCAT ALERT! def buying baby bellas this week. maybe even tonight. those look wayyyy too delicious (and i love how mushrooms are filling without being high on calories or making ur belly feel too full).

in other news, i love plain vanilla ice cream. weird right? my favorite dessert right now is chemical filled vanilla piled high with fresh peaches, a dash of dark chocolate chips, and a little sprinkling of slivered almonds. i may have only eaten half a dinner the last few nights to save room for some. yum. and p.s. i am dying for some of your macaroonies!

..ice cream..! Get ready for the best combo ever: vanilla ice cream (I use Rice Dream) with blackberries and caramel. Oh, lawdy. Otherwise, I am a Mackinac Island Fudge fan if we’re out & about.
