“Grill it up” and a small giveaway

Hey everyone! Back to the grind, eh?? Hope your Monday is treating ya well so far 😀

I felt a little off yesterday after Saturday night’s shenanigans but I was so happy to make dinner with the pilot. We’ve started a habit of grilling on Sunday nights and it feels like such a great way to start the week 😉

We had sweet potato fries (seasoned with EVOO, sea salt, pepper, paprika and chili powder), veggie packs and baby bella mushrooms (with balsamic, sea salt, pepper and rosemary)

009

And the pilot plopped his organic grass-fed beef burgers in the middle. I almost cried happy tears when I saw that our Publix started carrying Greenwise meat because until now, I’ve had to get his carnivorous purchases out-of-town and freeze them. This makes life soooo much easier. He seasoned the burgers with jalapeno slices, worsteshechireshire sauce (does anyone else have difficulties with that word? I usually call it “worst” sauce), sea salt, pepper and stuffed them with pepper jack cheese.

010

He’s extra sweet about keeping his meat away from my veggies (TWSS?? Ahhhahaha). He uses separate spatulas everything! Whatta guy 😀

The finished product rocked my face off.

011

Zucchini, yellow squash, Campari tomatoes, asparagus

012

MUSHROOM! MUSHROOM!

013

Tater fries with Annie’s ketchup:

014

We even grilled some jalapenos in a foil pack:

016

And I ate allllll of them >:) You know I like my spicy.

After dinner, we went to get a tour of a kennel here that Viesa is going to stay at while the pilot and I drive to Oklahoma City. My aunt is going to watch Bella, but since Viesa wants to eat my aunt’s yorkie, we’re finding another place for her to stay since Megan (who is our Viesa-sitter) will be at school with me!! Lots of planning, but it’s all working out so far.

Tonight, I finally made some of this:

017

Summer Shape Up winners, your macaroons are in the dehydrator 😀

018

Mmmmm, macaroony goodness.

019

Speaking of macaroons…….

I just want to say thank you again for sticking with my bloggy post plastic surgery. It was a little weird getting everything switched over, and the Google reader disappearance, but now the bloggy’s in recovery mode. Special thanks to all of you who helped me get the word out about the re-subscribe issue <3 I hope you know how much I adore each and every one of you and thank you for making this such a FUN place to talk about food, fitness, mumbo jumbo and everything else. I started the blog on a whim -and because the pilot told me to “get a hobby”- and you guys have turned it into something so enjoyable and rewarding. Ok, mush part over.

Now, who wants some macaroons??

All you have to do is leave a comment and let me know if you’re a cake or ice cream person and what your favorite flavor is 😀

I love both dearly –chances are that if something falls into the “dessert” category, I’m a fan- but I’m definitely a cake person. My favorite homemade cake is flourless chocolate but a la box, I love FUNFETTI!!

******I’ll use a random number generator tonight at 9 EST to pick the macaroon winner, who can choose from blonde, chocolate, or almond butter-stuffed macaroons.

Aight, I’m out. I have some errands to run but I’ll see ya for lunch!

xoxo,

G$

Hello! I’ve been stalking your blog for a few weeks now and have to say that it is very very motivating for me. I’ve been struggling on and off with an eating disorder since I was 17 (I’m 28 now), and seeing how wonderful you are able to eat and not get fat over night (something I always fear when eating) definitely motivates me to give it a shot.

One question, what do you recommend for a very out-of-shape person who wants to start working out?

Also, I’m definitely an ice cream person (though raw, vegan cakes are good too!) and my favorite flavor is pumpkin pie. Yum!

Thank you so much for your blog. 🙂

      hey girl!
thanks so much for saying hi!
i actually look BETTER since i started eating more.. your body needs food, it just needs to be healthy stuff! no need to deprive 😀
to start working out, i recommend starting with 2 miles of cardio every day.. it can be anything- walking, running, elliptical, bike. after you get your two miles of cardio in for a few weeks and are feeling pretty good, try increasing the intensity of amount of time you’re working out. always shake things up! as far as weights go, try doing the machines at the gym – they help with form if you’re not used to lifting weights. i think a whole body workout 3x a week is a great starting point. there are some workout moves under my workout page, too.
      hope this helps a little!

Thank you for the quick reply!

Sounds like a good and hopefully very attainable goal for me.

        Thank you again.

Chocolate ice cream, all the way!

  6. Pam (Highway to Health) on August 24, 2009 at 1:25 pm

  7. Jenna on August 24, 2009 at 1:27 pm

  8. Breanne on August 24, 2009 at 1:28 pm

I’m an ice cream person and my favorite flavor is banana split ice cream because it has all the goodies that come with a banana split but in one easy container!

  9. Raya on August 24, 2009 at 1:29 pm

  11. katklaw777 on August 24, 2009 at 1:48 pm

Let them eat cake please!!! Lava, cheesecake, carrot, pineapple upside down, do they qualify? Yum-yum now I am hungry for cake and macaroons, I love coconut. Thanks for the great give-away!

  12. Katie on August 24, 2009 at 1:48 pm

First of all, I wanted to let you know you are such an inspiration to me! Reading your blog is sometimes the motivation it takes for me to go to the gym. I am actually a frozen yogurt girl, and I love every flavor as long as it is soft-serve!

  13. katie on August 24, 2009 at 1:59 pm

oh man, i pretty much love any and every dessert option there is. i think i’d have to say i love cake a tiny bit more than ice cream, and by my choice of cupcakes, i’d have to go with red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting [just slightly over the chocolate cake / chocolate buttercream frosting combo].

  14. Jaclyn on August 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm

Mmmm, I LOVE to grill in the summer also! I would have to agree with you and say both but I do LOVE my mocha chip or funfetti ice cream!

  15. Ariel on August 24, 2009 at 2:07 pm

Your vegetables look delicious! I’m partial to vegan ice cream– I make it at home with ripe peaches and coconut milk.

  16. TonjaToi on August 24, 2009 at 2:08 pm

Oh those grilled veggies look delish. No one would ever miss meat w/ that meal. It’s making my tummy growl.

As far as cake or ice cream goes – it depends. If it’s a really good cake – like rum cake I’m all over the cake. If it’s a store bought cake – I’m going for the ice cream. I love Funfetti too!!!

  17. maren on August 24, 2009 at 2:10 pm

i LOVE carrot cake! sooooo good! skinny bitch in the kitch’s recipe is amazing! or ben n jerry’s cinnamon buns ice cream!

When I was little — my family mispronounced it as war-shister which I also couldn’t pronounce so I always called it “the sister sauce”

  21. LEIANNA on August 24, 2009 at 2:19 pm

Definetely like ice cream more, bunny tracks from Blue Bunny is my favorite!

  22. Ryane on August 24, 2009 at 2:21 pm

I am totes an ice cream girl… and i’m not picky about what flavor it is, but I tend to go for the cookie dough or berry flavors the most!

  23. JennA on August 24, 2009 at 2:28 pm

    Hi Gina,
I have been following your blog for a few weeks now. I love your food pics. They are very motivational =) I’m def giving your recipes a try once I’m done with my 30 day Detox challenge (Natalia’s new book). I haven’t started the Detox yet but I will soon. LOL.

It’s hard to decide on the cake and ice cream. I think they are best together hehe. Chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream; very yummy. Your macaroons look very tasty. Maybe you should have two winners instead of one (anything to increase my chances) 😉

    keep up the good work!

Gosh, I think your taste buds are identical to mine. I like cake and ice cream both in their own rights, not so much a fan of having both at once. LOVE flourless chocolate cake and funfetti cake! As for ice cream, mint chocolate chip will always be my favorite!

  48. Steph on August 24, 2009 at 3:28 pm
