Handyman

Hi friends! How was your day?

There’s nothing like coming home to a seksi Pilot, painting the Easter egg powder room.

pilot

What a handyman.

And goodbye forever, Easter egg 😉

Things are really starting to come together here! I’m excited to post some “before” pics, from when we moved in and the house was empty, and some “after” pics with all of our stuff in here.

It finally feels like a home, and little Bell is starting to relax a little bit.

bell (2)

That is, until I make her wear antennae 🙂

That’s half of her Halloween costume!! So pretty.

She got a new toy for being a good sport and posing for a picture, even though she was frozen like a statue.

toy

I think she liked it 🙂

I picked up her Halloween costume and the toy when I was out running errands this afternoon.

Check out the list for this weekend, and it doesn’t even include the groceries/ingredients for the party:

envelope

It’s a lot, but I love and missed having people over. Crossing things off the prep list feels sooooooo nice 😀

Some eats:

eats

2 steamed eggs, an apple, blueberry breakfast cookie and a batch of amazeballz for a friend who never eats breakfast and then teaches all day. Right now, the thought of skipping breakfast blows my mind –I’m ready to EAT when I wake up!- but definitely remember the college and high school days when I would skip breakfast. Cray cray.

Speaking of, it’s dinner time over here 🙂

Have a great night, friends.

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: Do you dress your dog up for Halloween? Have you had an August dinner party yet? You still have this weekend 😉

Crossing things of my to-do list might be one of my favorite activities EVER!!

  2. Shaya on August 25, 2011 at 9:44 pm

We would dress up our pug in silly costumes every year– she likes everything except for hats 🙂

That mirror is beautiful– can’t wait to see your ‘after’ shots of the house!

Hubba hubba, thanks for letting us checkout your husband on the blog. I am still bummed I did not get to see him in person at HLS!

i dont have a dog, but i would probably dress it up too if i had one haha

I need to find myself a seksi pilot as well. Just a shame that the Airforce in NZ doesn’t have many 😛

I also remember being bad at not eating breakfast when I was at university. It wasn’t until I went vegan nearly 4 years ago that I started doing so. And like you, I have brekky first thing when I get up, and luckily my 2 and a half year old son eats what I eat, which is usually a smoothie and chia pudding 🙂

  8. Amber L on August 25, 2011 at 9:53 pm

I *try* to dress up my cats for halloween. They look like they want to claw my eyes out when I put things on them, though. . . lol. I always used to dress up my dog that lives at my parent’s house, though!

We had a dinner party/game night two weekends ago. It was so much fun!

    • Fitnessista on August 25, 2011 at 9:54 pm

      hahah! i love it!

  9. Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me on August 25, 2011 at 9:53 pm

OMG he took it upon himself to do it without being asked. My fiance needs to learn a few lessons!

  10. Leslee on August 25, 2011 at 9:59 pm

I loooove lists!! haha some think it’s crazy, but I would never get anything done without them! My father-in-law likes crossing things off of his honey-do list so much that if he does a task that isn’t on a list, he’ll write a list just to cross it off! Funniest thing ever, but I totally get it! Now we keep an ongoing one on our fridge at all times! Have fun with the party! We’re new in our town and I miss having parties too!

I was just talking today about remembering how I used to not eat breakfast. Now I think people would get hurt if I didn’t…

  12. Evan Thomas on August 25, 2011 at 10:01 pm

We dressed our dog up like a hotdog two Halloweens ago. It was very cliche

  13. hippierunner on August 25, 2011 at 10:28 pm

Bella is such a cutie! I don’t think my dog is up for that, but we’ll see!

  14. Minnooo on August 25, 2011 at 10:34 pm

No Halloween costumes, but my beagle has gone through his fair share of Christmas sweaters much to his dismay…hehe.

  15. Brittany (Eating Bird Food) on August 25, 2011 at 10:35 pm

So glad the Easter egg walls are being painted. 🙂

  16. Ali @ Peaches and Football on August 25, 2011 at 10:40 pm

Too funny – I use old envelopes for grocery and to-do lists as well. Super handy and envelopes are nice and thick, just perfect for scratching stuff off when you’re in the store. 🙂

There are worse things than Easter egg colors though. My mom and dad bought a house to rehab and sell and one bedroom was all DARK primary colors. Each wall was a different color (red, blue, green, yellow) and the ceiling was BLACK. Never have I ever seen anything so bizarre!

  17. China on August 25, 2011 at 10:41 pm

Bella’s so pretty! I can’t wait to see her whole outfit with the wings. Is she a butterfly or a bee?

  18. kaila @ healthy helper! on August 25, 2011 at 10:54 pm

I can’t even imagine skipping a meal like your friend! I’d have NO energy! I neeeeed to eat! Plus its so enjoyable!!!

  19. Liz @ Southern Charm on August 25, 2011 at 10:58 pm

Yes! My dogs has been a bumble bee and pumpkin. When I was in law school, my roommate dressed her dog up as the three headed monster from Harry Potter (the first one). That was my favorite Halloween costume ever for a dog! She took two stuffed heads and sewed them on a neck piece for the dog. Amazing! The kids in our neighborhood went crazy.

  20. Kris | iheartwellness.com on August 25, 2011 at 11:15 pm

Awwww how cute is your pup!! We always dress Hudson {our wiener dog up} last year he was a devil, the year before a fisherman in his yellow rubbers 🙂

    xxoo

  21. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on August 25, 2011 at 11:22 pm

Haha! I never dressed up my dog, but would always make my cats wear my doll’s dresses when I was little. I guess that counts as a costume? 😀

  22. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on August 25, 2011 at 11:24 pm

Have I had a dinner party in the past year? No. Whoops! My friends in San Diego either live on the other side of the county and don’t want to come downtown b/c of their kids and my younger urban friends are still into the liquid diet routine, i.e. lots of cocktails and going out…but i need to throw a dinner party…soon 🙂 thanks for the nudge.

And the blueberry brekkie cookie and the ballz…both look delish.

As does the transformation of the Easter Egg. Love the progress!!

mmmm can you do a giveaway with amazballs?

    • Fitnessista on August 26, 2011 at 1:21 am

  25. Deva (Voracious Vorilee) on August 25, 2011 at 11:37 pm

Yay for no more easter egg room! We painted our apartment when we moved in, since we planned to be here til we buy a house. I love having my personal touches on our place!

  26. Dana Marie on August 25, 2011 at 11:38 pm

I think skipping bfast only can happen if you ate late at night – or a lot

  27. Lindsey on August 25, 2011 at 11:41 pm

We dress up our cat! She has been a lion, ballerina and bunny – this year I want her to be a dragon! I love it!

  28. Danielle (Shrinking and Studying) on August 25, 2011 at 11:52 pm

Bella is so stinkin’ cute. I’m postponing my dinner party to September and throwing a back-to-school dinner party instead! 🙂 We have a tiny apartment but there’s always room for board games and enchiladas. 😉

  29. Jackie @ That Deep Breath on August 26, 2011 at 12:12 am

Bella is seriously way too adorable for words. Congrats on the house coming together!!

  30. Heather (Strong Smart Healthy) on August 26, 2011 at 12:31 am

Ha ha! I totally painted my bedroom that easter egg colour. BUT I also painted my living room “chipotle orange” My fiancee, who to be fair said I could paint any colour, came home and his jaw dropped. I love colour – even if nobody else really agrees with my crazy taste

  31. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on August 26, 2011 at 1:14 am

I am so looking forward to the before and after pics! Good luck with all your to dos!

  32. Tasha @ Voracious Eats on August 26, 2011 at 4:26 am

Your to-do list is insane! Good luck with that. And of course I have Halloween costumes for my pooches. Last year Jack was a jackolantern, Lobi was a fairy princess, and Polly was a witch. They hated their lives for the few minutes we put the costumes on them, but it was awesome. My dad is going back to the US this September and I’m going to ask him to bring us back more costumes. They are too cute!

No, no dinner party in August yet. I was traveling for the first half of the month, and now it’s Ramadan and most people want to spend their evenings with family. Maybe in September, though!

  33. Janiek on August 26, 2011 at 6:53 am

    awww bella looks so cute!

  34. Fallon on August 26, 2011 at 6:58 am

mmm breakfast is one of my favorite meals and I also use to be one of those that would skip it!!

  35. Hillary on August 26, 2011 at 7:42 am

I have no idea how I used to get through the morning without breakfast (I don’t think I started eating it until I was a senior in high school). Now, as soon as I wake up, I’m ready to chew my arm off!

  36. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on August 26, 2011 at 7:47 am

I cannot imagine skipping breakfast! I get hungry if I wait even an hour to eat, let alone waiting til lunch! But I’m sure after eating those amazeballs, your friend will be a breakfast convert. 😀

  37. Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) on August 26, 2011 at 8:04 am

I’m having my family (+ my oma!!) over tonight! My hubby and I are excited too because we get to meet my older sister’s new bf today! woot woot 😀

You inspired me to make mexican food tonight… so when I get home from work I will be making guacomole (mmmmm) and taco’s!

  38. Valerie @ FreshMutz on August 26, 2011 at 8:05 am

Bella is so cute with her antennae!!! I love how you Halloween Shop in August! When I was little I would get my Halloween costume while Back to School shopping because I couldn’t wait!!! Halloween is my favorite holiday. My favorite Halloween costume was when we dressed my little Betsey up as Elvis, complete with guitar. My mom would also from time to time put wigs on her for giggles!! LOL!

No August dinner party here… yet, but if I had one It would definitely include pesto. I can’t get enough!

  39. Melissa on August 26, 2011 at 8:11 am

I love crossing things off my to list! I’ll tell you a little secret.. sometimes I write things on my list after I have already done them just so I can cross them off. Goofy I know!

    Have fun this weekend!

  40. Kailey (SnackFace) on August 26, 2011 at 8:42 am

I know I shouldn’t be miffed by it, because it’s fairly common, but I just don’t GET when people don’t eat breakfast! I wake up hungry every single day! It’s quieted for maybe an hour if I drink tea…but it comes right back. Couldn’t imagine working out for hours sans food, either! Good for you for bringing her food! I’d probably do the same…. 🙂

  41. Alaina J on August 26, 2011 at 10:17 am

omg love your dogs bows. I have a golden and a lab and they weigh over 170 pounds combined. lemme tell you i still dress them up with bows and they would be terrified of your pup. hahah

  42. Pam on August 26, 2011 at 10:26 am

My dog has different antennae for each holiday…Christmas, St. Paddy’s Day, Easter, so for Halloween we just pick out a random one for her to wear 🙂
Love your to-do list on the envelope, my mom used to always do that. I buy those little memo pads to write my lists. I type in my phone as well and set little alarms to remind myself, making it almost impossible to forget anything.

  43. Moni'sMeals on August 26, 2011 at 10:27 am

I SO dress my dogs for Halloween. They are English bulldogs so anything you put them in just looks so ridiculous on their big buid. We ususally go for tight and pink! Am I so mean?! 🙂

  44. Beth (well ill be) on August 26, 2011 at 10:32 am

I always want to bring people that I work with breakfast when they say they don’t eat it. I would die if I didn’t eat in the morning. I think you phrased it best, cray cray!

  45. Ashley on August 26, 2011 at 10:38 am

I’ve neverrrr been able to skip breakfast. It completely blows my mind when people can do that!! 🙂 Have fun with the partaaay!

  46. Sam @ Sam Bock Illustration & Design on August 26, 2011 at 10:41 am

Haha, I LOVE the way you write lists on random pieces of paper…I do the same exact thing…on envelopes, receipts, and especially Post-Its. I did just buy a planner to hopefully reign in my scrawling/doodling/sketching on anything I can get my hands on.

You just inspired me to look for some halloween costumes for my husky…it is his first halloween (he was only ten days old at the time last year!)!!! So far I like a Chippendales bowtie and cuffs, haha, and a Batman costume. I also found some reindeer antlers that I may need to snag for Christmas! Something about little antlers/antenna on a dog cracks me up…I think he will be a good sport, at least for a picture!

  47. AR on August 26, 2011 at 10:52 am

My puggle (Biggie) doesn’t have Halloween specific costumes, but he knows how to rock a theme. He’s always a leprechaun (leprepuggle) for St. Patty’s and he has a bow tie + collar that he sports when he hosts dinner parties with me 🙂 Speaking of, first summer dinner party is Sunday!

  48. Sonia (the Mexigarian) on August 26, 2011 at 12:04 pm

Hubby found some Star Wars dog costumes to put on our puppy Lando. He also wants to dress up our uh, big, cat Chloe as Jaba the Hut and our slow in the mind kitty Gambit as Jar Jar Binks. He’s the Star Wars fan. 😀

And I write notes and lists on random paper too. Whatever I have on hand and don’t need works just fine 😉

  49. KatieG. @ Just Roll With It on August 26, 2011 at 5:31 pm

Yeah, I can’t even imagine not eating breakfast…I would probably have no energy to move and have to sit in a corner somewhere or something…I do remember the days when I went without breakfast (and sometimes even lunch) when I thought it was healthier that way because it was less calories…ha, boy was I wrong!

  50. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on August 26, 2011 at 7:59 pm

Bella is so adorable! She always looks so dainty and girly…until she has a new toy. Love it! Can’t wait to see how the Easter egg bathroom looks painted!
