The Easter Egg

Hi friends! Happy almost-Friday! What are you up to this weekend?

We still have a lot to do around the house before our weekend company arrives and housewarming party, and #1 on my list was tackling the Easter Egg:

guest

Our guest powder room… with purple walls and a green ceiling.

I thought it would be such an easy project. We had paint in the garage from the people who lived here before us, and the Pilot was going to paint it after work (since I can’t be around the fumes right now). Then he reminded me that we needed actual paint brushes and rollers, tape to tape off everything, he removed the mirror, I had to clean the walls and nasty dusty fan – it was a little more intense than I thought it would be.

We grabbed the painting supplies at Lowe’s, Zinburger to-go for dinner:

burger

[Amazing house-made veggie burger… skimpy on the fries. Or maybe I need to stop eating half of them before I take a photo? Heh heh]

and Bella supervised the activity from the couch, with her eyes closed.

bell

She’s very talented like that 😉

This morning, I made a quick smoothie:

smoothie

-coconut milk [<— I decided to swap out the usual almond milk for coconut milk this week, and really like it!]

-Sun Warrior

-cacao powder

-frozen organic cherries

-1/2 banana

-Stevia and cinnamon

and am about to do the work thang.

Hope everyone has a happy Thursday! See ya later with a Fashion post 😀

xoxo

Gina

That veggie burger/sweet potato fry dinner looks incredible right about now (almost lunchtime on the East Coast)!

That veggie burger looks amazing … and what was left of the fries. Hey, you’re preggers. You have every right to start feeding that baby inside you before stopping to take a pic.

    • Fitnessista on August 25, 2011 at 10:58 am

and it was a long car ride home… it’s a wonder there were any left for the pic 😉

Painting is no joke! We just moved into a new house and every room was painted either a bright green or a bright blue or some combination of the two. We painted our bedroom the night we got the keys but have to slowly work our way through the rest of the house. We’re planning a housewarming for Oct. 1st and are hoping the dealine keep sus motivated!

Fries make every stressful situation better. Fact.

  5. Kristina @ spabettie on August 25, 2011 at 11:00 am

what drives people to paint rooms funky colors? especially guest baths! if your new place was from the 70’s or something… 😉

Basil has a similar pose from the top of the couch…

  6. Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor on August 25, 2011 at 11:01 am

Oh painting….I have a bunch of that to do over the next week or two, our trim all needed to be re-painted. No fun. Just be glad you get to use the preggers card on that one to get out of doing it! 😀

    • Fitnessista on August 25, 2011 at 11:01 am

haha. i actually like painting, though! i feel like he gets all the fun 😉

  7. Ashley@MyFoodNFitnessDiaries on August 25, 2011 at 11:02 am

Haha you’re so right, the bathroom does have an “easter egg” look. 🙂

Your veggie burger/fries combo looks delish!! What’s Zinburger? I don’t believe we have those around here in Utah.

  8. Allison @ Food For Healing on August 25, 2011 at 11:03 am

aw you don’t want to keep the bathroom like that!? lol just kidding. i dont understand some peoples minds sometimes when its comes to painting or decorating houses..

  9. Holly @ The Runny Egg on August 25, 2011 at 11:07 am

Yep that green + purple is some color combo. Wow!

So are we going to see an “after” photo sometime today? 🙂

  10. Emma on August 25, 2011 at 11:10 am

Green ceiling? Really? At least you got a yummy meal on the way 🙂

  11. Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission on August 25, 2011 at 11:14 am

I’m excited to see what it looks like after! I had a blast redoing my own bathroom…but it took longer than I anticipated! That paint doesn’t even match the tile — what were the previous owners thinking?! lol

  12. AJ on August 25, 2011 at 11:14 am

Haha, Bella is so cute on the couch! I hate the cleaning before the painting! So much work and not fun!

  13. Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) on August 25, 2011 at 11:14 am

At least the walls didn’t have wallpaper! but seriously though, what are people thinking? purple and green?? so weird.

House projects always come out taking much longer than originally thought… but once you’re done, you’re done!!

  14. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on August 25, 2011 at 11:18 am

I actually think bathrooms are the hardest/most annoying rooms to paint! They have so many corners and things to cut around it seems to take forever. Are you going to show an “after” pic?

    • Fitnessista on August 25, 2011 at 3:43 pm

      yep, for sure!

  15. Krista on August 25, 2011 at 11:19 am

What on earth were those people thinking when they painted that bathroom?? Oh my! The veg burger looks terrific, BTW! 🙂

  16. Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs on August 25, 2011 at 11:20 am

Bah! Painting is always 100% more work than you expect it to be. We just got done painting 6 of the 6 rooms in our new house. Good call being away from those fumes, I don’t even want to know what they do to me, I was sick for a week after painting. I couldn’t keep anything down 🙁

I would LOVE to hear the justification fo those colors in a bathroom by whoever decided on those colors…

    That burger is magical!

  17. kara on August 25, 2011 at 11:26 am

um whoa. you have Zinburger there?? i just discovered one a few towns over from me (incidentally, it is directly next door to the best froyo EVER) and loved the idea, but i haven’t gone in. i’m moving away in ten days, but that burger looks so good that i might have to convince someone to go with me before i leave!!

  18. Maria@La_Piattini on August 25, 2011 at 11:36 am

    Green ceiling- how random!

  19. Marguerite Miller on August 25, 2011 at 11:43 am

The first few months my sister was pregnant, she was very sick, the only think she seemed to be able to keep down were potatoes! Mashed/baked/fries didn’t matter what kind! So that was what she lived on for a while!

  20. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on August 25, 2011 at 11:48 am

Aaah, Bella is so beautiful and sweet! That is an adorable photo of her snoozing…bless! <3 I love coconut milk and use it all the time…we have brand called Kara and it is amazing! 🙂 Such a delicate but delicious taste…it's not the really creamy kind, which would be a bit rich for pouring on cereal etc, but a watered down vegan milk substitute…love it! Best of luck with the easter egg! 😉 xyx

  21. Katie on August 25, 2011 at 11:49 am

The prepwork is the worst part of painting! Once you get to actually paint it goes quick!

    • Fitnessista on August 25, 2011 at 3:42 pm

      i hope so!

  23. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on August 25, 2011 at 12:14 pm

For some reason, I thought that veggie burger was the size of a pizza. I guess its the angle? haha

    Have a good day!

  27. Stacey on August 25, 2011 at 12:35 pm

my goodness I went to the Zinburger site to see what I’m missing and holy guacamole!! So sad we don;t have one 🙁

  28. Lisa @Fresh Spinach on August 25, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Mmmm, I could go for some sweet potato fries right about now… and yes, I know is not even 10am yet.

  32. Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food on August 25, 2011 at 1:37 pm

I have painted every room in my house and usually my mom always comes over to have a ‘paint party,’ but just 2 weeks ago, I did my spare bedroom alone. I found out that it’s my mom that clearly gets everything ready because I went to start painting and realized I didn’t have a roller or any tape! I always think jobs are going to be easier than they actually are!

  33. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on August 25, 2011 at 1:49 pm

I feel that jobs like that always seem simple but then end up becoming more complicated. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!!

  34. Laura @ Backstage Balance on August 25, 2011 at 2:06 pm

I could go for a veggie burger like that, right about now! Damn that looks good! And the sweet potato fries, of course.
Good luck with the bathroom renos. I want to paint over the hideous sponge-painted walls in our entryway and laundry room!

  35. sara @ the foodie diaries on August 25, 2011 at 2:07 pm

When I read the title of this post, I thought you maybe nicknamed the baby “The Easter Egg” 😉 hahahaha! Glad to see you tackled the bathroom, not sure why anyone would ever want to paint a cieling GREEN! 🙂 Hahaha!

  36. Lindsay Loves Veggies on August 25, 2011 at 2:20 pm

Haha! My dad just bought a house with an Easter egg! One of their downstairs bedrooms is bubblegum pink! How awful is that??

  37. Cat @Breakfast to Bed on August 25, 2011 at 2:24 pm

my old apt had alternating pink and teal tile. We called it “the diner”

  38. Gillbear on August 25, 2011 at 3:15 pm

I actually would love a lavender bathroom. I like green and purple together too but I’d probably not paint the ceiling that colour ;P My sister painted her entire room a purple that really shouldn’t exist…

    • Fitnessista on August 25, 2011 at 3:31 pm

i would too, if my guest bathroom decor wasn’t gold, brown and red :/

      • mary on August 25, 2011 at 7:22 pm

I used to have a guest bath with beautiful green and purple accents in the accessories. That stuff would’ve gone great in there. Maybe that’s what they had? lol

  39. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on August 25, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Good luck with the home renovations and taking the bathroom from yesteryear into modern day. No small feat.

And it’s summer in AZ and you’re preggers…your energy amazes me! ANY kind of home renov project is just what I call backbreaking labor (no pun intended). They are all so much harder and hotter and heavier and just more intense than you ever imagine going in so good for you for just getting it DONE! 🙂

  40. Moni'sMeals on August 25, 2011 at 4:33 pm

I like how you called it the Easter Egg room! That is awesome. 🙂

That veggie burger looks ridonkulously tasty too!

It always seems to me, that when you think you will finish a project in a second, it actually takes forever, and ends up being way more work than you expected. Why is that always the way? That veggie burger looks amazing, where there olives in there?

  43. Fallon on August 25, 2011 at 5:05 pm

I also swapped out almond milk for coconut. It is a nice change in the smoothies for sure!!

  44. Hillary on August 25, 2011 at 5:07 pm

Mmmm yeah. Those are the EXACT colors of my childhood bedroom. Exact.

  45. Reader on August 25, 2011 at 5:42 pm

WHERE oh WHERE do you purchase your frozen cherries? I have only found them at Whole Paycheck and they are too expensive for my liking. I end up buying fresh, pitting them, freezing them, and they are not the same!

    Thanks!

whole paycheck. they’re super expensive, but i just love them so much.
