I can taste the mall

Hi guys! So sorry I made some of ya’ll cry with the video– at least they were happy tears and I warned you 😉 No words can describe how it feels when the person you love more than anything comes home. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be young and have your parent deployed—military kids are so admirably resilient <3

So how’s your Indian food Wednesday going?? Things have been bueno over here- the PACKING MOUNTAIN has begun 🙂

clothes

That is only a small limb of the packing mountain… and I still have to make room for macaroons and Garlic Gold goodies!

Eats today have been pretty glorious, including:

egg

a 3-egg-white scramble (with eggs from the farm) with arugula, goat gouda, Garlic Gold, red chili flakes and hot sauce

and a giant bowl of cherries 🙂

cherries

No TurboFire yet since I’ve been a packing and laundry MACHINE, but am going to cardio it up tonight before dinner. It’s been too stinkin’ hot anyway 😀

I’m off to prep dinner and workout before the pilot comes home, but I’m sure many of you want to know where I’ll be living in a couple of months.

If you guessed Orlando, you’re totally right 😀

The original plan was to go to Tucson since most of my family is there, but the cost of taking the car out there and the dogs + plane tickets back and forth during the moving process (and when the guys come home) was going to be ridiculous. I’m very lucky to have my aunt and cousins in Orlando who are going to let the puppers and me be squatters in their house. At least I’m a macaroon-making cleaning machine squatter, right? 😉

Even though the situation is a huge bummer of *why* I have to move, I’m kind of scary excited about living in Orlando. I’ll be back to V-town pretty often to visit my friends (and they’ll come visit me!) and in the meantime, I’ll be teaching Zumba, taking yoga, having a blasty with my aunt and cousins, applying at some of the vegan bakeries/restaurants and shopping. I can taste the mall already. And it tastes delicious 🙂

Hopefully Meghann, Julie, Katy, Katy, Erin, Ryan and Ashley will adopt me, too 😉

I’m not moving for a while, but we’ll be starting to pack up the casa pretty soon! WHEW.

Have a great night!
Gina

  2. Kaylene on August 11, 2010 at 6:45 pm

That’s so crazy! I’m moving from Tucson to Florida (Sarasota, not Orlando, though) in a week! Must be something in the air…

    • Lindsey @ Sound Eats on August 11, 2010 at 7:33 pm

I’m from Sarasota! Let me know if you want to know anything else about the area. 🙂

      • Kaylene on August 12, 2010 at 10:20 am

Thank you! It’s my mom’s hometown, so I’ll have some family around, but it was by complete coincidence that I ended up landing an internship there!

  3. allison @ livingoneday on August 11, 2010 at 6:46 pm

  5. Laura J. on August 11, 2010 at 6:51 pm

Yay for civilization! I’m so happy for you! :):) Hopefully all the yoga classes, Zumba teaching, shopping excursions and Orlando shenanigans will help make the deployment fly by for you! Praying for a safe return for your Pilot! 🙂

Excited to meet you this weekend (hopefully!!). I am a LONG time reader, random commenter 🙂

  9. Allie (Live Laugh Eat) on August 11, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Well, I’m happy for you to finally get out of Valdizzy. I know it can be hard to live somewhere with no WFs, TJs, and the mall 🙂 You’ll be in good hands while the Pilot is away. He’ll be back before you know it though.

  10. Tina on August 11, 2010 at 6:54 pm

I’m glad to see you so excited. And Orlando really does have a lot of great areas.

  11. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on August 11, 2010 at 6:54 pm

    Yay! Congrats to you. 🙂
But I was kinda hoping you were moving near me so we could open a gym + bakery. Boo.

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 7:22 pm

      AHHHH. that would be AMAZING

  12. Becky on August 11, 2010 at 6:58 pm

I bet you’re so excited to have the Florida Mall, Mall of Milennia, Premium Outlets and Prime Outlets right within your reach! i just did an internship for Disney last semester and I miss Orlando every second of the day 🙁

  13. Kailey (SnackFace) on August 11, 2010 at 7:03 pm

Yayyyyy! I knew it! You’ll be happy and distracted there… I hope! 🙂

  14. kelli on August 11, 2010 at 7:03 pm

Good Luck!! So exciting for you 😀 I applied to the a few only vegan restaurants near me to work, NYC..and no one responded yet =\. But Ethos Vegan Kitchen in orlando is supposed to be really good!!!

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 7:22 pm

did you apply at one lucky duck??

      • kelli on August 11, 2010 at 7:52 pm

Yes I emailed one lucky duck!! and she said she would forward it to the head chef..then never heard anything back! lol I just want a part-time job since I am going to school still in fall for nutrition (live on long island). But if not i’m sure I will be drowning in homework haha 🙂

        • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 7:59 pm

what do you want to do there? can you make any raw treats?

          • kelli on August 12, 2010 at 8:20 am

I want to cook or learn to make alot more raw things. Well I just got a dehydrator, so pretty soon I will master raw food! I went to culinary school at johnson & wales (far from vegan cooking ;]) But I am vegan myself and make all types of food 🙂

          • Fitnessista on August 12, 2010 at 8:46 am

i say call the restaurant, see when sarma will be there, and take her some vegan treats and your resume 🙂

          • kelli on August 12, 2010 at 9:29 am

you are genius, So should do that. I think going and being able to take with the chef and people that work there give me a better chance than a lousy email haha, I will definitely let you know If I go 🙂

          • Fitnessista on August 12, 2010 at 9:36 am

exactly- it’s always better to see someone in person. also, i read on sarma’s blog that a couple of years ago a girl brought her raw chocolate that she had made and sarma hired her on the spot. 🙂

  18. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on August 11, 2010 at 7:13 pm

WOOOO!!!!! I totally thought you were moving there!!! 🙂

    • Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on August 11, 2010 at 7:15 pm

I’m sure it will be hard to be away from The Pilot but being close to family is the next best thing. AND all of those bloggers! What a supportive community we have. I’m sure they’ll be there to also lend an ear when you’re sad or hug whenever you need it.

How long will he be deployed? Are you coming back to V-town when he gets back??

      XOXOX

      • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 7:21 pm

i can’t post any of that info for security reasons- sorry 🙁

OOOh kinda jealous!! I love Orlando! We’ll be there this February before we head out on a Disney cruise. SIGH I guess I will live vicariously through you till then-ha ha. I just started a blog yesterday because I’d like to track my new healthy lifestyle. I have really been inspired by your weight loss story. I’ve lost about 40 lbs as well. Thanks to you and a few other bloggers I am learning how to live a healthy but fun and yummy balanced life. Didn’t think it was possible before.

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 8:01 pm

      that’s so awesome! <3

  23. Lindsey @ Sound Eats on August 11, 2010 at 7:32 pm

Well it’s not Jax but I’m ok with it. 😉 Good news! My in-laws (plus all of you lovelies!) live in Orlando, so we go back frequently. 🙂 I have a feeling you’ll be so much happier, as much as possible while he’s away, surrounding yourself with people and things you love. 🙂

When will you be heading down? We’ll be down some weekend in September for my bro-in-law’s bday.

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 8:00 pm

whoo hoo! i know we’ll get lots of good hanging out time in 🙂
      xoxo

  24. Whitney on August 11, 2010 at 7:40 pm

Orlando will be a blast! I <3 it there! It's hard to be in a military family. My dad was in the Marine Corps for 21 years and we moved ALL over the place. I hated it most of the time, but I probably wouldn't be as adaptable or outgoing as I am today if it weren't for that!

  25. holly @ couchpotatoathlete on August 11, 2010 at 7:44 pm

Oh how exciting to live in Orlando! I thought for sure Tucson (or MN to make me macaroons every day!) — How fun to work at a bakery or something like that.

Will you have a TJs or Wfs near by?

  26. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on August 11, 2010 at 7:48 pm

  27. Kelly Michelle on August 11, 2010 at 7:48 pm

woohoo! maybe I’ll finally get to meet you now. We always seem to be in Orlando on opposite weekends, but now that you are there for good it might work out. I’m just happy you will get to be with your awesome family and friends for support 🙂

  31. Meaghan on August 11, 2010 at 8:21 pm

I can’t wait to see these new Orlando posts, what with all the yoga and Whole Foods hot bar trips. Good luck with your move!

  32. alison on August 11, 2010 at 8:33 pm

This is definitely a bittersweet move for you, I know, but having some support during a deployment is so crucial. I’m in the same boat as you, but without the moving part. In fact, we opted to not move from our current location just to keep things “normal” for our 8 yr old. Good luck to you and the Pilot on your endeavors. Military wives (and kids!) are tough stuff!

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 9:56 pm

yeah i’m sure it’s way different when you have kids- you can’t exactly pick them up from their school and friends and move whenever the guys are gone. let me know if you ever need to vent/talk!!

  33. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on August 11, 2010 at 8:39 pm

Deployments totally suck (halfway through my bfs – and coming up on our big r&r vacay), but that is so exciting about your move! Have you thought about renting out time in a commercial kitchen and selling your roons and other treats online? I would totally buy some!

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 9:53 pm

yes! i might be able to do that in orlando- there are no commercial kitchens for rent in valdizzy

  47. Lindsay on August 11, 2010 at 9:46 pm

Congratulations. I am so glad that you are getting to move to a more “civilized” area. I would totally die if I didnt live in an area with good shopping. I hope that you get the support you need while the husband is gone. I know it will be hard but remember you have SO many people around you that are supporting you and thinking about you!! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 9:59 pm

i was looking at their website! the only bummer is it’s FAR from my aunt’s house

      • Krystina on August 11, 2010 at 10:03 pm

Yeah it is kind of in the middle of nowhere (and also in the middle of the Asian district – random). I read that you’ll be living by WF (I assume the one on Sand Lake) so if I see any places around there that are hiring I’ll let you know. 😀 You should definitely get a treat at Raphsodic though because their cupcakes are magic.

        • Fitnessista on August 11, 2010 at 10:09 pm
