I really live here

Hi friends! How are you? Thank you for all of the sweet congrat tweets on our future baby Pilot (or whatever he decides to do) 😉

bella

[I love when one of her ears flops back like that]

After I last said hello, I enjoyed half a banana with almond butter and packed up an apple to munch on the drive back.

snack

I tested out a new circuit workout that I’ll be posting tomorrow… and it was a super schweaty one 🙂

{no such thing as a non-goobery way to take an iPhone photo. Smile at the phone = goober, smile at the mirror= goober. haha}

After all of that fun, a shower, + the second half of b-fast:

bfast

it was time for a little adventure: getting a Costco membership.

costco

Costco is a magical place.

photo105

They have amazing things like 24-oz Maranatha almond butter jars for $5.79 and a 24-pack of seaweed snacks for $9-something.

photo104 photo103

I was blown away by all of the healthy and organic options… it was pretty much amazeballz.

Even with all of my excitement, I restrained myself from going too crazy –the Pilot would raise his eyebrow at me if I came home with a 24-pack of seaweed snacks, a new dog bed for Bella, a 50-pack of bathroom tissue, and other random buys the week before we move- but I HAD to get these:

zucchini pasta

Zucchini pasta!!

I love making this at home, but it’s tough to pack for lunches because it gets soggy. Since these are frozen, they’ll be awesome take-to-work options 🙂

It’s funny because getting a Costco membership made me feel a little like we actually live here. Yes, I’ve been in Tucson since December, but everything has felt temporary since I’ve been here. I was staying with roomies and when the Pilot came home, we moved into a small apartment, with loaner furniture from the parentals and stuff I got at an estate sale to last us until we move into our house. We’re staying here, but it never felt like we *live* here, if that makes sense.

We always joke that it seems like we’re here on a quick trip to see the fam.Today make me feel like I’ll be here for a while, but the big one will be next week when we get the keys to our new place 🙂

It’s dinnertime over here, but I hope you’re all having a lovely night! <3

See ya bright and early 😀

xoxo

Gina

Today’s workout jam: “Best Thing I Never Had” Beyonce. I’m on a Beyonce kick lately! This song is slower and kinda ballad-y but makes for a surprisingly awesome heavy climb song. As I was crawling up the treadmill with a high resistance, it motivated me to keep going, since I kept thinking “you sing it, girl.” haha 😉

i have never set foot in a costco, we have one here, maybe i should go for a wander one day, maybe we have stuff like that here, that would be awesome.

  3. Holly @ The Runny Egg on July 18, 2011 at 10:11 pm

I love Costco — they have such good food and it is so cheap! Although, I feel like we need to buy another house to hold all of the stuff I buy there 🙂

  4. Laura Jane @ Recovering Chocoholic on July 18, 2011 at 10:11 pm

I’ve never been to a Costco, but now I want to go. There is one near my workplace, but I’m not sure if I could justify the cost of membership. I wonder if I can go and just look around before I decide.

  5. char @ char on a mission on July 18, 2011 at 10:11 pm

I love that song right now, too!! I’m glad you took the plunge and got a Costco membership – I love being a member. I know the Canadian Costco is way different than the US ones (ugh, we don’t sell liquor in it…big disappointment lol), so I’m wondering what our organic section is like. What a find with the zucchini pasta…totally want to go to Costco now (too bad the closest one to me is like 40 mins away!)

  6. MMiller on July 18, 2011 at 10:15 pm

Love Costco! I don’t go very often since I overdo it when I am there!

  7. BIOCHEMISTA on July 18, 2011 at 10:15 pm

I’m also shocked by the healthy options available! I want a membership 🙂

    • BIOCHEMISTA on July 18, 2011 at 10:16 pm

      PS…Congrats on the baby boy 🙂 🙂

  8. Leslie Wingate on July 18, 2011 at 10:20 pm

We only have Sam’s Club. BOO! What type of bread is that for breakfast? It looks yummolicious!

  9. Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn on July 18, 2011 at 10:21 pm

OH my god. I freaking love costco. I can’t believe I’ve never been, but I love it. Any place with zucc noodles and seaweed snacks has a warm spot in my heart <3

  10. Dynamics on July 18, 2011 at 10:21 pm

I hope you got a business card so you can get into the store earlier and beat the crowds. I just want to warn you,.. you think WF is a paycheck….Costco is TWO paychecks!

  11. Rebecca on July 18, 2011 at 10:22 pm

This is totally unrelated to this post but I have to ask…what’s your leg “secret.” Being a pear, my lower body is my “problem area,” especially the thigh region. What’s the best way to get toned and more streamlined legs without spending oodles of time doing cardio or weights?! Whenever I gain weight it goes directly to that area and it’s the last place to show any results, so my upper body and lower look kinda mismatched. BUT i’m convinced that there IS a way to get my lower body the way I want it!

  12. Amy@healthyhungryhappy.com on July 18, 2011 at 10:24 pm

ooo i love costco! thats awesome they have zucchini pasta!

  13. Alyssa @ Life of bLyss on July 18, 2011 at 10:28 pm

I always am so in love with your pretty nails. aand I really want that omelet.

  14. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on July 18, 2011 at 10:31 pm

we belong to Sam’s Club and I don’t think they have nearly as many healthy options as Costco which we used to belong to when we lived in FL. Unfortunately, the closest Costco is now 40+ minutes away so it’s a deal breaker. Enjoy your zucchini pasta!

  15. Meggie on July 18, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Love love love Costco! They have so many amazing healthy and organic food choices at great prices.
Occasionally you can find designer jeans (I have seen Joe’s, Rock & Republic, Citizens of Humanity, and Seven) for around $100 a pair or less in their clothing section. Its an easy place to break the budget!

  16. Jen @ familyfoodfitnessandfun on July 18, 2011 at 10:38 pm

I love Costco! I always end up spending more than I planned ;). I always buy the big bag of organic quinoa. And of course the gigantic bottle of honey 🙂

  17. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on July 18, 2011 at 10:39 pm

It’s definitely hard to assert self-control in Costco. I always leave with way more than I need…and in copious amounts!

  18. Clar on July 18, 2011 at 10:39 pm

Girl- you’ll HAVE to post the verdict of that zucchini pasta bc i bought the garden light zucchini souffles from costco. GROSS. I love everything zucchini but for real- i wanted to barf. Plus they look low budget as soon as you take them out of the box with the packaging and all.

  19. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on July 18, 2011 at 10:41 pm

Glad that Tuscon is finally feeling like home!

The last time I had a Costco membership was about 4 yrs ago. I bought my Vitamix there when they had them there on a “road show”. It was cheaper there than online buy maybe $50 bucks so worth it to get the membership. I don’t go now…no membership. And sometimes I think oh I should get one…then, I realize, I may not need a gallon size drum of animal crackers or a 3 lb bag of salad greens…lol

But then I see the DEALS and I think..well..maybe I should after all 🙂

Glad you scored$$ and are feeling at home 🙂

  20. Kate on July 18, 2011 at 10:41 pm

I’m so jealous of your costco it’s so much better than SAMs club.

  21. lauren alysse on July 18, 2011 at 10:44 pm

i LOVE costco! my parents shop there almost exclusively. awesome awesome 🙂

  22. Mindy on July 18, 2011 at 10:47 pm

I love Costco – somehow it de-stresses me, LOL! I have bought that same brand but it was zucchini souffles and they were made with eggs. I hope I can find the zucchini pasta, that would be awesome, esp since it’s vegan and portable!!

Congrats on finding out about having a little boy!!

  23. Vanessa @ Sweaty in Pink on July 18, 2011 at 10:48 pm

Costco is my FAVORITE!!! The samples are the cherry on top of such a fun shopping experience EVERY time I go there 🙂

  24. BethT on July 18, 2011 at 10:52 pm

buy the pilot a costco rotisserie chicken. he will thank me later.

  25. Kilee on July 18, 2011 at 11:25 pm

Yah for Costco memberships! I’ve been shopping on Costco forever. Anyone visiting Maui for a week- swing by Costco on your way out from the airport and get all your food for the week if you’re staying at a condo. It’s the least expensive place to buy food on the island.

  26. Casey on July 18, 2011 at 11:43 pm

Gina I was just thinking that your iPhone photo didn’t look goobery at all and I wondered how you managed to do that haha. Mine always look so dumb.

And congrats on the future little Pilot. 🙂 My eyes were tearing up this morning when I was reading the family post!

  27. kaila@healthy helper blog ! on July 18, 2011 at 11:49 pm

I love costco! I wish we had them up here in the north east! That zucchini pasta looks amazing!

  28. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on July 18, 2011 at 11:55 pm

I wish we had a Costco nearby! Our closest one is in the next state–NJ! 🙁 Although, my husband probably campaigns for them not to come around here, hahaha. I have little to no discipline at grocery stores, much less MEGA ones!

  29. Namaste Gurl on July 19, 2011 at 12:09 am

Costco is the BEST and has so many organic and natural food options in bulk for cheap. Once you join you never go back 🙂

  30. Sana on July 19, 2011 at 12:11 am

Costco RULES, I would move in if I could. I eat lunch at costco, the samples ruleee!

  31. Jessica on July 19, 2011 at 1:27 am

Yay on getting a Costco membership. I love that place. I swear I’m there every other week getting something for my family.

P.S. – Congrats to you and The Pilot! I’m so happy for you two.
Do you have any names in mind for the little guy yet???

  32. Cait @ Beyond Bananas on July 19, 2011 at 5:56 am

Costco!! We belong to BJs right now.. but it is like.. 35 minutes away.. when we have a Costco in our town. I think we need to make the switch because we never feel like making the long drive!

  33. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance on July 19, 2011 at 7:10 am

Congrats on the Costco membership! Your life is about to change 😀

  34. Kierstan @ Life {and running} in Iowa on July 19, 2011 at 7:22 am

I think Costco is overwhelming, but like going (when I can sneak in with my mom) every once in a while. The tabouleh they have is amazing.

Did you check out their athletic clothing? I’ve heard about some really great tanks that they have (Kirkland brand) that people swear are the same as Lululemon. I don’t have any yet, but will be checking them out next time I am up in Minnesota.

Smiling is always better than not smiling!!

  36. Heather (Heather's Dish) on July 19, 2011 at 7:37 am

the costco in our area has a ton of healthy and organic options too, which i love! we have to limit the amount of times we go there though, otherwise it’s easy to spend tons of money on stuff that we later wonder why we bought 🙂

  37. Claire @ Live and Love to Eat on July 19, 2011 at 7:40 am

The only complaint I have about Costco is that I buy too much and run out of places to store things at home!

  38. Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me on July 19, 2011 at 7:58 am

My parents had a BJ’s membership. I don’t think I’ll be getting one myself till the fiance and I have babies of our own. You can save big on diapers etc through those big wholesalers!

  39. Jessica on July 19, 2011 at 8:10 am

I live for Costco and their giant jars of Almond Butter!! They also have lots of great organic fruit and veggie options! It never fails that I go there for one thing and come out with at least 10….

    Congrats on your baby boy!!

  40. meghan@ struggle muffins on July 19, 2011 at 8:34 am

Who knew Costco was a mecca for fun healthy foods (on the (relatively) cheap)?!?! This excites me 🙂

  41. Laury@TheFitnessDish on July 19, 2011 at 8:40 am

I just have to say…STILL sporting the little shorts! Looking so good for 20 weeks (I assume, since you found out the sex?) wow!

  42. Angela (Oh She Glows) on July 19, 2011 at 8:47 am

I’m obsessed with your nail polish! lol. So fun.
That pasta looks right up my alley too. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled.

  43. Sarah @ See Sarah Eat on July 19, 2011 at 8:50 am

Thanks for reminding me that I need to renew my Costco membership! I’m moving closer to the one in my city this weekend so it’s perfect timing 🙂

  44. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on July 19, 2011 at 8:50 am

I love Costco! I don’t have my own membership, but I always take advantage of my parents’. 😛 Last time I was there I got 6 cartons of Almond Breeze for $8!

  45. Jen Correa on July 19, 2011 at 9:05 am

OMG!! I wonder if my Costco has the gigantic almond butter. I must go this weekend!

  46. Nicole @ Giraffelegs on July 19, 2011 at 9:36 am

love love love Costco…except one time I went there and they were selling caskets. Yes, at a great price but I’m not sure I want to pick up my food as well as walk around giant beds of death..it was creepy. But I have since forgiven Costco.

  47. Lauren on July 19, 2011 at 10:04 am

i wish we had a costco! everyone always raves about it. womp womp.

  48. Emma @ Microcosm of Life on July 19, 2011 at 10:19 am

Oooh, I’m eager to see what you think about the zucchini marinara! I’ve never tried it, but I really like Garden Lite’s veggie souffles. If they have those in bulk, that might be enough incentive for me to buy a Costco membership!

  49. Nicole on July 19, 2011 at 10:39 am

I am constantly debating over the Costco Membership…to get or not to get, that is the question! It is literally a quarter of a mile from my house, but since I’m a one person household I’m not sure I could really take full advantage. You are definitely making me lean towards “to get”… 🙂

  50. Kaci on July 19, 2011 at 11:16 am

omg YOUR THE BEST! Me and my mom was just thinking about getting a membership to costco, i have heard from many people about their great selection of healthy foods. Costco even has bulk Quinoa!!
