In the New Year…

Hi friends! I hope you’re all enjoying this shiny new year so far 🙂 Thank you SO much for all of your support with the revamped post baby bod plan. I’m so excited to share it with mamas and expecting friends out there, and am so thankful to those of you who have helped me spread the word. Don’t forget that if you order before the 16th, you’ll get the new advanced plan for FREE ($49 value).

In the past, I’ve shared my inspiration boards with you all. Back in the day, I’d make them pretty with sparkly paper, magazine cut-outs, and little doodles. Then with Pinterest was invented, I started trying to catch up with technology and made Pinterest inspiration boards. They really didn’t do the same thing for me. I like being able to see my goals, and take steps each day towards accomplishing them. I’ll still be pinning inspiration on Pinterest, but I’ve also written the following goals down in my planner, and of course doodled them a little since I’m still 11 years old.

(Looooove my Erin Condren planner with sugar skulls)

I’m going to share some of my personal, professional and health goals with ya below, and would love to hear yours, too!

-Continue to work to be a kinder, more patient, present, compassionate, version of myself. I want to be the best mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend I can be.

My super fiery Latina personality has mellowed out a LOT over the years, especially as I’ve had to accept a lot of the unexpected. Even now, when I feel myself start to get impatient or frustrated, I take a second to breathe and focus on the present. I can feel my anxiety ramping up again as we get ready to head to Georgia, so my meditation practice is coming back with greater consistency.

-I’d really like to finish my MBA. When I dropped out, it was the right decision at that time, but it’s bothering me that I was so close and didn’t finish. I’ve talked to the college in Valdosta about finishing up, and while I may lose some of my credits that expired, it may be worthwhile to just do it. It’s like an unchecked box in my brain, and it’s driving me bonkers.

-Focus on our marriage. I feel like it’s worthwhile to be honest since I know that many of you may be going through similar things. After the reflux disaster and my medical issues, then the Pilot finishing his Masters, we found ourselves very much in “work mode.” Now that things are calming down a little bit, even though they’re going to get a lot more hectic with his work schedule after we move, we need to spend some time on *us.* We need to plan some dates, and focus on being husband and wife instead of colleagues.

-TRAVEL! I love looking forward to the upcoming year for travel. I’ll be headed to Hawaii for a press trip, we have a NY getaway planned, and I’m also pumped to take the girls to Disney World and Jacksonville. If we could sneak a trip to Italy in there, it would since I’ve been officially begging to go back for like 3 years now.

I always tend to make pretty lofty goals for myself on the professional front, and even if I don’t hit them, it pushes me out of my comfort zone. And most of the time, it’s exactly what I needed to do to make things happen! (Huge ones were writing HIIT It!, launching post baby bod, and producing “Soli Beat.”)

Here are 5 professional goals for the new year:

-Launch post baby bod and post baby bod advanced. These are on the way! The content has been finished for a while, but now the designers are working their magic, my web guy is putting together the techie stuff, and I’m writing all of the bonus + launch content. So excited to share these!! Remember that you can order PBB here and get the advanced version for free if you order before the 16th. We’re also doing an online accountability group starting on the 16th.

-Create a workout video platform. This has been a goal for a long time, and one of the reasons I stopped making so many YouTube videos was because the quality was killing me. My tripod did the trick, and I’m not necessarily looking for movie quality every time, but I really want to get some professionally-filmed and edited videos together for you. The good news is that we’ll be in Tucson for a little while, so Grant and I can rock and roll through as many as possible. The question is, would you guys rather have this be online or through an app? What’s easier and more convenient for you?? Also I think apps are $$$$$$$$ so we shall see how I can do this.

-Hit Director through Beautycounter. I am so thrilled to be apart of this mission with some passionate, inspiring, and hardworking ladies. Our team is crushing it, and I’ve been thisclose to hitting Director a couple of times. I’m excited to keep working with Beautycounter -I mention it on the blog here and there, but it’s a significant part of the “behind the scenes” stuff- and it’s been refreshing to have something different that I feel so passionate about. I usually don’t get this pumped up unless it’s working on health and fitness-related stuff, so it’s exciting to have another thing I enjoy so much. If you’re revamping your skincare in the new year for safer products, or if you’re a go-getter who would like to join our powerhouse team, please let me know!

-Find new teaching spots!! I think I’ll be focusing on Spin and barre in Valdosta, and maaaayyyyyybe dipping my toes into the yoga teaching pool. Also it took me forever to really fall in love with Pilates, and now that I’m obsessed, it would be fun to explore certification options.

-Practice yoga more regularly, and explore a new yoga “home” when we get to Valdosta. I heard they have a hot yoga studio now (YES!) and I’ll definitely be taking and teaching Spin.

-Continue to strength train regularly. I’ve been consistent with strength training since college, but it’s still important to me, and I know I want to continue to make it a priority.

-Continue to work PT and alignment strategies into my routine. I don’t do full sit-ups anymore, or many versions of crunches. I also really work on breathing, core stabilization, and making sure that I’m not *cheating* in my exercises haha. I used to plie squat from my KNEES since I wasn’t rotating from my hips enough. I’m excited to continue to learn more and make my personal routine as exciting yet safe as possible. I’ve actually considered going back to school to be a PT, but since I’d basically have to get another Bachelor’s from scratch (turns out a Finance degree is not multipurpose), it doesn’t seem likely.

-Keep up the clean eating. I haven’t really written about it, because I didn’t know if it was going to be a short-term or longer term thing, but for the most part, I’ve cut out sugar and refined flours. Sure, I’ll have some pizza, dessert or bread here or there -I’m not a robot haha- but I realized how much better I feel without sugars in my life. I don’t believe in absolutes, and life is nicely danced in the grey line instead of black and white, but for the most part, but I’ve been mostly sticking with healthy, whole foods, and found that my energy is so much better.

So there we have it! Goals, goals, goals. I’d love to hear yours!

What’s a professional, personal, and health goal you’ve set for the year?

To pass my board exams and continue to grow my wellness practice! I feel like that’s so small compared to your list.

  2. Liz on January 3, 2017 at 6:51 am

I love that you consider working on PT and alignment strategies. I’m a graduate PT student and it pains me in the gym or exercise classes to see the form some people use. They’re not working the muscles they think they are and setting themselves up for injury. I find it so much more important to use proper form, even if it means you can’t lift nearly as much as you thought.

  3. Nathaly @NathyCure on January 3, 2017 at 7:00 am

I’ll be finishing my dual graduate program this year, So I’m pretty excited for what is coming next on my professional career.

Also, I’m ready to train for a half-marathon and get faster at my pace. Maybe I’ll hit some PR’s 🙂

    Happy new year!

  4. Sara Jackson on January 3, 2017 at 7:02 am

Yay, I’m glad you will be making videos again. My husband and I still do your Tabata videos every once in a while.

  5. Julia on January 3, 2017 at 7:03 am

I enjoyed your comment on unchecked brain boxes. Those are totally a thing. As far as grad school and work craziness goes, I can also relate big time there – it took my husband and I a good while to bounce back from his graduate degree, because it was hard on us to do it. I’m grateful we did. Sounds like this will be a big year for you, Gina! Lots of exciting new things happening.

    • Julia on January 3, 2017 at 7:07 am

I didn’t comment on goals. Eep. I suppose getting my PBB in order would be one – I used your PBB at the beginning of last year, and lost 13 pounds plus toned up tremendously. This made my fourth pregnancy a BREEZE compared to my first three. Now I have weight to lose again though. And four kids. And no time. So. Not a goal so much as an unchecked brain box haha.

      • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:25 am

so so happy to hear you had an awesome pregnancy <3
and 4 kids. you are a rockstar. i'm scrambling with 2 haha

  6. Jessica @ Semi-Sweet Tooth on January 3, 2017 at 7:03 am

All awesome goals – and I can’t wait to follow your progress through the year!

I tend to focus on SMART goals, and will be drafting up a bit more today (my first work day of the year), but my primary goal/resolution is to meditate once a day. I’ve been trying to get back in the habit, and event the first two days have been tough. But meditation, even for 10 minutes is SO worthwhile and I can tell such a difference when I get to it.

Thanks for sharing! Your resolutions have definitely gotten my mind working towards trying to achieve in the new year. 🙂
    XO, Jessica

  7. Leanna on January 3, 2017 at 7:06 am

These are so inspirational. By the way I love your you tube videos, excellent effective exercises and fun to do!

      thank you so much!

  8. Jessica on January 3, 2017 at 7:23 am

Hi! Thanks for providing the link to the advanced post baby bod — I AM SO EXCITED TO TRY THIS!! I did pre-order however it is showing that I will e charged $39 – -still a great deal but am just wondering if this is correct?

    Thank you!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 7:31 am

yes! you will be charged 39 for it 🙂 after the 16th (after you receive it), it will be 49
thank you so much for ordering!

      • Jessica on January 3, 2017 at 8:14 am

I read the post wrong. I won’t be able to start this for a couple of months seeing that i am due soon — will that have any affect on this?

        • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:22 am

you should still receive it no prob! just wait to do it until you’re ready <3 i wouldn't do the advanced plan until you're at least 9 months pp

  9. LeeAnn on January 3, 2017 at 7:27 am

After spending about 2 years in house renovation mode (first to sell and then completely remodeling a foreclosure), I cannot wait to focus more quality time on my daughter. She has been a total trooper through all the madness, but I am excited to up my quality time with her this year.
I am also hoping to jump into my first triathlon. I run and race bikes, but the swim will add a completely new dimension that I havent quite figured out!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:25 am

      that is amazing!

  10. Amanda P. on January 3, 2017 at 7:33 am

My husband and I will be moving into our new house in a couple of months. I’m hoping to continue college courses in something I love. We are getting a new puppy and will begin respite foster care on the weekends in our home. Oh yeah…..and trying to stay centered and balanced through it all!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:25 am

<3 love that. what are you going to name the pup?!

      • Amanda P. on January 3, 2017 at 12:53 pm

She is a Brittany Spaniel…..just born New Year’s Eve. Her name is Birdie 🙂

        • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 9:30 pm

          awww i love it!!!

  11. Randi on January 3, 2017 at 7:46 am

I’m training for another half ironman now that my second baby is almost one and nursing less!
So excited for more videos from you – I recycle through your old ones regularly! I would definitely prefer online to an app!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:24 am

thank you for letting me know!!
you will rock that half ironman, too! xoxo

  12. Caitlin Hines on January 3, 2017 at 7:54 am

Hi! Happy 2017! I’d love to hear more about what your daily eats look like since you’re limiting sugar and refined flour! Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:24 am

sure, i can do a WIAW post 🙂

  13. Cassie on January 3, 2017 at 8:01 am

I love seeing your goals! I’m trying to let go of plans and expectations a good bit this year and just be all in as mama and wife. So no big goalplanning sessions for me, but yours looks awe inspiring!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:24 am

being “all in” is in awesome goal <3

  14. Ashley @ A Lady Goes West on January 3, 2017 at 8:38 am

Hi Gina! You’re always working on something big! I’m sure the advanced plan will kill it! 🙂

As far as your goals, I like them. Quite diverse. I’m not making any big goals this year, but am going to try to focus on SIMPLIFYING my life a bit. You know!

    Happy New Year, friend!

Oh, and press trip to Hawaii? AMAZING!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:22 am

      thank you so much! <3
i hear ya on the simplifying. sometimes it's much more powerful to do LESS
      happy new year, lovely friend

  15. Ashley on January 3, 2017 at 8:56 am

I love this and hope to see you when you’re in NYC! I also can’t wait to use your PBB once I deliver Baby Girl Diamond in June! xo

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:21 am

YES, i will definitely let you know when we’re going!
i still have a little goodie package to send your way too 🙂

  16. Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona on January 3, 2017 at 9:00 am

I love hearing about other people’s goals. It’s great to see where their passion is and what they want to achieve over the next year.

I totally hear you on the school front. I went back to school to become a personal trainer and I’m so grateful that it’s only a two year diploma. I already have a bachelors and knew that I didn’t want to do another four year stint in university. Thankfully school has flown by and I’ll be done in June!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:21 am

i love hearing others’ goals, too
good to know about school, too! i just can’t even stomach going back for 4+ more years haha

  17. Susie on January 3, 2017 at 9:10 am

Hi Gina! I’m due with my first baby in 2.5 weeks, and I would be interested in the Post Baby Plan after the baby’s born and after I’m cleared to exercise again. When our recommend purchasing/starting the plan? Thank you!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:09 am

AHHH so soon! i’m so thrilled for you!
i would recommend purchasing it now, so you get the advanced for free when it launches on the 16th 🙂 i would start it after you’re cleared to work out and you’re feeling good.

  18. Kristen on January 3, 2017 at 9:48 am

I love my Erin Condren Planner!! I’ve heard of several different ways that people use it and incorporate Bullet Planning in it as well. I’d be curious (maybe blog post worthy?!) how you use it and if you have any thoughts about using it to its max potential!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:08 am

sure i could write about that! i’m not super fancy with it, though. i use the stickers and that’s pretty much it 😉

  19. Robin R on January 3, 2017 at 9:48 am

Gina, I love reading your blog because I feel so much resonates with me. I’m a mom who is now a SAHM but never thought I’d leave the work force. It is so hard to find your passions and identity when it is no longer to go balls-to-the-wall in your traditional career. I think that’s why exercising has been such a crucial outlet for me in the last few years for clearing my mind.

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:08 am

thank you so much. i totally feel ya — it’s tricky to find that balance. thank goodness for exercise endorphins 😉

  20. Katie @ Live Half Full on January 3, 2017 at 9:54 am

These are wonderful goals! My husband and I have felt the same in our marriage. It’s so nice to realize and make it a priority. It’s so easy to just go through life as parents making sure everything is taken care and it takes effort to make effort! So good for you!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:07 am

love “it takes effort to make effort.” SO true <3

  21. Jacquelyn on January 3, 2017 at 10:12 am

Thank you so much for sharing! I have brought out a journal and want to set up weekly goals and to do lists for the week, and also “gratefulness” journal. I did this back in middle school and I loved it (that was ages ago but has always stayed with me)

I would love to see a post on how you cut out the sugar and refined flour! XOXO
    Happy New Year Gina!!

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 11:06 am

i’m the same way!! love taking a second to write stuff like that down
sure, i can definitely do that 🙂

  22. Jill on January 3, 2017 at 11:10 am

I’d love to hear more about how you are cutting out sugar. Sugar is definitely my weakness and I truly believe it’s addictive. I know the basics, like not eating cookies or cake everyday, but would love more insight & guidance on how you are doing this. Thanks!

  23. Joanna on January 3, 2017 at 11:20 am

We went to Italy in November because we found super affordable flights through No gimmicks or anything, he just finds cheap flights around the world and sends out an email to his subscribers. There are free and paid subscription options and a lot of the deals are out of big cities, but occasionally he will find flights from smaller cities and it makes for a great deal.

  24. Janelle on January 3, 2017 at 12:24 pm

Why don’t you do sit ups anymore??

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 12:49 pm

      too much intra abdominal pressure

  25. katy on January 3, 2017 at 12:25 pm

Are you still teaching body pump classes?

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 12:47 pm

not right now. i haven’t taught BP since my hand surgery. the clean and presses are still hard for me to do quickly without worrying about dropping the barbell

      • Katy on January 3, 2017 at 1:14 pm

That makes sense 🙂 I was wondering if you thought maybe they weren’t effective anymore since I hadn’t seen you mention them recently or in any of your 2017 plans.

        • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 9:30 pm

oh no, i still love bodypump 🙂

  26. Lori on January 3, 2017 at 1:35 pm

I am so excited to hear that you are working on a video platform! I love your workouts, but for some reason I am motivated more when I am following a video rather than just doing it alone. I would love to have it online as I do all my workouts at my house.
I am also trying to tame my sugar intake…it has gotten a little out of control. I would love to see some more WIAW posts that show your eats when you aren’t eating sugar and refined flours.

  27. Diane on January 3, 2017 at 1:42 pm

Love those goals! I’ve given all alcohol (r.ip. my nightly glass of wine), and I’m aiming to meditate everyday. I also watched a doc on Netflix called “Minimalism” and I’m going to give away everything I don’t really need.

    Happy New Year!

  28. Kelli @ Hungry Hobby on January 3, 2017 at 2:37 pm

I want to be incredibly helpful. That’s my intention this year. We will see how that goes.

  29. Bethany on January 3, 2017 at 3:00 pm

I am interested in joining beautycounter. I am currently using some of their products and I have enjoyed them. Can you message me informative?

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2017 at 9:30 pm

      yes, i’ll email you now!

  30. Hanro on January 4, 2017 at 4:25 am

Hi Gina, I friggin love goals! I know a lot of people shun resolutions, but that’s like playing football without any goal posts or end zones.

My personal goal is to bridge the knowing-doing gap. It’s easy to say “yeah, I know”, but a whole different story to actually apply what you’ve learned.

  31. Sam @ Hygge Wellness on January 4, 2017 at 6:25 am

This is my first week as a full-time entrepreneur, so a lot of my goals are to grow & focus on my business, Hygge Wellness. I love working with clients 1-on-1 and I have several ideas that I’d love to execute in 2017! Personally, I’m coming off of a series of unfortunate medical & dental procedures, so I’m looking forward to feeling like myself again & getting back to my routine! I know you know what that feels like! Happy new year to you and the family! <3

  32. Lindsay on January 4, 2017 at 5:32 pm

I love the idea of more videos from you! I would prefer online videos vs an app. <3

    • Fitnessista on January 4, 2017 at 8:23 pm

thank you for letting me know! 🙂 i’m on it!

  33. Kristin on January 4, 2017 at 7:00 pm

Would love to know more about the limiting sugar and why no sit-ups?

    • Fitnessista on January 4, 2017 at 8:23 pm

i wrote a post about it today because i got a lot of questions about it 🙂
for the sit-ups, they can create a lot of intra abdominal pressure, which can cause your organs to push out. they can also cause disc issues

  34. Leah on January 4, 2017 at 9:33 pm

Happy New Year! Sounds like you are setting yourself up for a great year! I don’t know how you do it all :). I would love love love more videos. I find them more motivating when I’m having trouble just getting the workout started. Your videos are always fun!
Your advanced program. Who is this targeted at? My babies are not babies anymore! I workout regularly and usually enjoy your workouts. Can you give any more details?
