No Matter Where I am…

I’m never that far from “home”

whole foods

Heh hehe.

How are you guys?? It’s almost Friday! And we’re almost to Tucson- it’s our last day of driving Smile

road

Madre and I have had a blasty hanging out –I may have taught her the lyrics to the Nicki Minaj “Bottoms Up” rap- and the puppers have been amazing. They love road trips.

vies

Some snackage:

hummuschoc

Lunch was HOT BAR Open-mouthed smile

We were conveniently driving through Houston and via Twitter, got directions to heaven on earth:

hot bar

Kale, chickpeas, tuna salad, roasted pumpkin with cinnamon, and beets. I set a Gina record, too! Usually my hot bar feasts are $15-20. That beauteous feast was only $6 something.

We got into Fort Stockton, TX, LATE and after a couple of hotel snafus (key didn’t work multiple times, so we went to another hotel to find out they weren’t pet friendly),

we found a Sleep Inn that was clean and pet-friendly. Baller.

 hotel

Time for the last leg of the trip! See ya from TUCSON Open-mouthed smile <—- Just saying that makes my heart dance with happiness.

xoxo,

Gina

Something to do: This 5-minute workout video! I’ve done vids of short workout moves, but got some requests for actual workout videos. This one will get your heart rate up, for sure – I did it yesterday at the hotel Smile

Some notes:

-Always check with a doc before starting new fitness or nutrition programs. Honor your body and injuries- if it hurts, don’t do it!

-My legs haven’t seen the sun for a long time

-There are a couple of points where it was going to be really tricky to speak clearly and give good form/motivation tips, so I sit on the floor (haha). Didn’t want to be gasping or huffing and puffing at ya Smile

Enjoy and please let me know what you think <3

  3. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on December 9, 2010 at 11:14 am

I don’t have my speakers hooked up, but even without your tips/suggestions this looks like a great workout! It would be perfect to do before I lift weights 🙂

That roasted pumpkin from WF looks out of this world good — yum!!!

  4. Sarah on December 9, 2010 at 11:15 am

I loved the video Gina! I’m going to try this today. I hope you do more of these frequently!

  5. jenna on December 9, 2010 at 11:17 am

great video! I wish you lived near me so you could be my personal trainer. You seem so nice and not scary/intimidating like most!

Also, i’m being super nosy and you can just tell me to get a life…but what the heck do your mom and pilot do when you do hotel work outs? do they just watch you, join in?

I’m so suprised your puppers ahve been sooo good!! They are so sweet!

    • Fitnessista on December 9, 2010 at 11:28 am

yesterday, my mom was showering and getting ready while i worked out in the room. the pilot will usually take a nap, haha

  6. Sara on December 9, 2010 at 11:21 am

  7. Joslyn @ missfitbliss on December 9, 2010 at 11:24 am

Ah I have to start by saying I am so darn jealous of the fact your dogs love road trips! My dog is the biggest spazz EVER in the car. I once drove 16 hours with him in the back seat and he didn’t sit down once. He just pants and paces and drools and whines.

Sorry about that rant. I definitely agree with the Whole Foods thing. Home Sweet Home. And don’t you just love their garlicky kale? I’ve been downing it this winter.

  8. Gillian Young on December 9, 2010 at 11:44 am

I love this type of workout, it definitely looks like something I can handle and do at home 🙂

  9. Amy on December 9, 2010 at 11:54 am

Love “bottoms up”! and Tucson…yay T-Town!!! Have a safe drive!

  10. Lindsay on December 9, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Whoa whoa Gina you did NOT go to the original mega Whole Foods..!? Is it just that they’re prices there are really low, because I love me some hot bar & that does not look like a measly $6 box 😉

  11. Lindsay on December 9, 2010 at 12:00 pm

    Oops- they;re = their 🙂

  12. mi-an dela cruz on December 9, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Nice Vid!!! i’ll try it today! also i feel the same about whole foods…a little piece of heaven here on earth!! Drive safe!! you guys are almost there!!!

  13. Jaclyn on December 9, 2010 at 12:14 pm

Hey Gina! Glad you are almost there safe and sound!
I read that tweet yesterday about you finding Whole Foods aka Heaven on Earth! I found it funny 🙂 I can totally relate too, I have this ongoing joke with my mom, there are two things I am very good at “sniffing out”, one being WHole Foods (any where, reallY! We were on a train a few weeks ago, I looked up and in the middle of nowhere there appeared a random Whole Foods, lol!) and those luggage carts at airports…pretty random I know lol!

Take care! Your drive sure seemed to go fast!

  14. Nicole on December 9, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Gina youre the best! love when you do vids. My sister got the turbofire videos for her bday, I cant wait to do it up !!!!

  15. Madeleine @ Stepping to the Bright Side on December 9, 2010 at 12:20 pm

I’m so glad you’re almost home! And perfect: I was trying to figure out what to do for a workout today and here it is! Safe travels 🙂

  16. Erica D on December 9, 2010 at 12:40 pm

Great video! I can’t wait to do it.

Be honest…how much of your buying that Ghiradelli flavor had to do with the “Twilight” in the title? Hehe.

I actually did the same thing with eyeliner a couple years ago. Sometimes a name just calls to you!

  17. Kayla on December 9, 2010 at 12:46 pm

Safe travels, darlin’. Love that Vies face. So cute. Checkin’ out the workout now. Need a quickie to add to my arsenal.

  18. Aneta on December 9, 2010 at 12:52 pm

great video! will try it tonight!

and love that ur mother is rapping to niki minaj! hahah

  19. Christine (The Raw Project) on December 9, 2010 at 12:59 pm

It’s always hard finding a nice, pet-friendly hotel. That was an issue when we drove from Florida to California. The Whole Foods hot bar meal looks great, I never think to try vegan dishes from it when I’m there. 😛 Great video!

  20. Sara on December 9, 2010 at 1:00 pm

You are an excellent trainer! Thank you for this post. I will definitely refer to it when I need a quick cardio fix 🙂

  21. Clare @ Fitting It All In on December 9, 2010 at 1:03 pm

Loved the video Gina!! So many great moves to try –that plank with a leg kick looks great!

  22. Heather (Heather's Dish) on December 9, 2010 at 1:07 pm

  23. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on December 9, 2010 at 1:09 pm

What!? No miso slaw?! LOL… I’m off to Whole Foods tomorrow night for dinnah before I write an exam and I’m SO pumped! Edamame caviar salad here I come! I’m glad you had such a great road trip with your mom, and awesome job on the video! 🙂

  24. Leanne on December 9, 2010 at 1:09 pm

I can’t wait to watch the video at home later after work!

Have a fantastic last day of driving…. it’s so nice when you can see the end of the trip coming 🙂 Thanks for the post!

  25. Janna on December 9, 2010 at 1:17 pm

I wish you were my personal trainer. You’re so encouraging 🙂

P.s. You should definitely make a professional Fitnessista exercise video – I would totally buy it!!!

  26. nicole on December 9, 2010 at 1:25 pm

Excellent video! I really missed your WMOWs. Whole Foods is always so comforting and makes everything right in the world.

  27. Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) on December 9, 2010 at 1:48 pm

Nice workout video…i can’t believe on a road trip/moving across the country you have time to make videos, upload them, post them…you’re a rock star 🙂

Bottoms Up, baby! Love that track! Skylar (age 3.5 yrs) taught her dad (age 52 yrs) a few lyrics to some Katy Perry, Usher, and other tracks the other night when we were out at Senor Frogs on vacation. Good stuff. Glad you’re teaching your mom the words to the hits!

NOTHING WORSE than hotel keys that don’t work after you have schelpped all the way to the door of the room, with bags, beata$$ tired, and put it in and get a red light, not a green. Omg hair tear! Glad you found another hotel 🙂

  28. G on December 9, 2010 at 1:58 pm

I can tell just from this short video that you are an AWESOME fitness instructor!!! Wanna come teach in Canada!? 🙂

  29. Laura J. on December 9, 2010 at 2:04 pm

Awesome video! 🙂 Can’t wait to try it later! I think I see a Fitnessista Workout DVD in your future 😉 I’d totally buy it!

  30. christina on December 9, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Thanks! That workout was great 🙂

  31. Marg on December 9, 2010 at 2:07 pm

Ah, that’s the one really close to where I work! Love it, but I tend to spend in the $12 range, so try my best to avoid it.

Looks like you’re having a lot of fun on this road trip and making it into a great experience!

  32. Paige @ Running Around Normal on December 9, 2010 at 2:10 pm

Yay for the last day on the road!! So excited for you, girrrrl 🙂
    Awesome video!

  37. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on December 9, 2010 at 2:58 pm

I had that roasted pumpkin when I went to WF with my parents last weekend!! It was delicious, especially with the curried beet-and-apple salad I paired it with. Safe travels on the last leg of your trip!!

  38. Teresa on December 9, 2010 at 2:59 pm

Thanks for the Workout Vid. It was fun to watch and seriously, you’re the sweetest trainer.

I actually work at Whole Foods, and I know that here in California the hot bar is only $5.99 on Wednesdays, making a whole lot cheaper. Is it the same in other states? Because trust me, it makes a big difference in the price!

Aw, what good little puppers you’ve got. They’re troopers to make the long trip with such great behavior!

I hope your last day of the road trip is an enjoyable one!

  39. Sima on December 9, 2010 at 3:23 pm

This workout is what I need, quick and I can do this at home, and if I want I can double up the workout to make it longer. Glad its your last day of travel. You are very lucky your dogs travel well. I have two cats that hate being in the car. Meow meow all the way, it makes me feel bad having them in the car.

  40. Courtney (greeneyedrunner) on December 9, 2010 at 3:39 pm

Great video! It looks like Insanity month 1 condensed into five minutes, which is really cool! Ahh, the power jacks. Look easy until the third one or so…

  41. Tracey on December 9, 2010 at 3:47 pm

I’ve been thinking about you all week and it’s been fun tuning in each day to see where you are in your travels. You and your mom are making great memories that you probably won’t even realize ’til later. What a great Christmas gift! On a selfish note, I really need to order some Sunwarrior soon. Is there a promo coming…should I hold off a little longer? 🙂 Thanks!

  42. Mo on December 9, 2010 at 3:55 pm

Nice job on the video. You haven’t seen white legs until you’ve seen my Irish, glow in the dark, legs! Take care and good luck on the last “leg” of your trip -hee, hee.

  43. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on December 9, 2010 at 3:57 pm

Man, when I’m on road trips, I usually have Subway three times a day 🙂 I wish I could find a Whole Foods!

  44. Namaste Gurl on December 9, 2010 at 4:03 pm

Haha, totally call Whole Foods my home away from home– they are then again 🙂

  45. Alana on December 9, 2010 at 4:58 pm

Thanks for the awesome 5 minute workout! The route to my gym was blocked off today because of an accident so I had to come home 🙁 This post has perfect timing!
