Perfectly grilled salad beast

Good morning! How are you? Hope your day is going well so far <3 Thank you so much for all of the baby bump Halloween ideas… I’m excited.

So, last night I asked the grillmaster if he would mind grilling up some goods for our dinner salad beasts.

salmon

I’m so glad he loves grilling, because the clean-up is so easy, and he’s kind of a wizard at it 😉

I prepped some salmon with:

-olive oil

-sea salt and pepper

-Nama shoyu

-The juice and zest of one orange

-grated fresh ginger and crushed garlic

-a drizzle of honey

salmon

and he also grilled up some asparagus spears to go with it.

asparagus

While he was outside cooking the food, I caramelized some onions and made the dressing.

The finished product:

salmon (2)

A glorious salad beast with grilled salmon and asparagus, segmented orange, caramelized onions and orange soy vinaigrette.

Not. too. shabby.

[This is the reason why it’s easy for me to be disappointed by restaurant salads]

We took Bell for her nightly walk, finished watching Bridesmaids –it was the third time I’ve seen it, and it gets funnier every time- and called it a night.

This morning, a pre-workout bowl of oats:

oats

[oats, Sun Warrior, berries + melted chocolate chips]

and I’m off to the gym!

What’s on your workout agenda today? If you need leg workout inspiration, the one I did yesterday left my leggies pleasantly sore.

See ya later today!

xoxo

Something to talk about: I’m very late to the Pinterest bandwagon, but I finally signed up. Are any of y’all on Pinterest? The funny thing is that I haven’t pinned anything yet (it feels like a commitment! haha) but am excited to use if for decorating, fashion and recipe inspiration.

Pinterest is my downfall…I could potentially waste hours!!!

  3. Sara K on October 11, 2011 at 11:41 am

The salmon looks glorious! My hairdresser was telling me about Pinterest, and i checked out the other day and love all the various idea/sources of inspiration on there!
As for Bridesmaids- LOVE that movie, I haven’t seen the newly released unrated DVD version though…I hear that’s quite interesting

My husband does all the grilling as well, it just works better that way (and I am terrified of using a grill).

Those cinnamon rolls look AMAZING. I might have to make them this week and bring them into work to share (so I don’t eat them all, because I know I will haha). Thanks for sharing!!

I am just starting to become addicted to Pinterest. It’s great for me to keep track of clothes that I want to buy online!
Chocolate chips in oatmeal are an amazing way to start the day =)

You’ll get excited for Pinterest. 🙂 I wasn’t sure about it either—took me a while to sign up and then I didn’t really get it—but then all of a sudden, one day I just got totally hooked!

  8. Lindsay on October 11, 2011 at 11:55 am

I love pinterest! I’ll start following you on it. I’ve seen some of the cutest things EVER on it, especially for kids! It’s great for fashion and just all over super neat stuff. That salmon looks to die for… I need to learn how to cook salmon asap 🙂

I am OBSESSED with Pinterest. I’ve already planned my future wedding/house on there, and have found some pretty fabulous recipes to boot!

I’m fairly new to your blog and I LOVE it! Are all your recipes gluten free? Also, do you have a recipe for your orange soy vinaigrette? Thanks!

yep, it’s written on the notebook in the post 🙂

I’ll be doing yoga at lunch and a 3 mile easy run tonight. My schedule has been so messed up lately with work and my husband starting fall term that I haven’t been working out consistently. Major unhappiness.

  12. Courtney on October 11, 2011 at 12:07 pm

Totally addicted to Pinterest over here. Been on there for a few months and I still check it multiple times a day. Great ideas on there. You will DIE at the baby cuteness stuff…

I am just starting pinterest too! And I completely agree– it feels really new (and kind of confusing) right now. But I keep hearing how addicting it is, so I’m excited to get started!

  15. Erin @ The Grass Skirt on October 11, 2011 at 12:17 pm

This salad looks so good. Nothing beats a nice big salad, especially one with salmon. I’m obsessed with Pinterest! I’ve pinned a lot. Probably way too much. It’s an addiction! If you’re looking for someone to follow, you can find me at: http://pinterest.com/thegrassskirt/ 🙂

  17. Allison on October 11, 2011 at 12:23 pm

Salad looks yummy! I totes am disappointed when restaurant salads are a let down :S The worst is when you’re served a couple of pieces of lettuce topped with shredded cheese- really?!

I made a pinterest account a while ago but haven’t actually used it yet! Soon…

  18. Beth (Well I'll Be) on October 11, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I just started Pintrest too and feel pressure because all these people started following me all the sudden and all I’ve pinned is a picture of a baby tiger!

  19. Julie (A Case of the Runs) on October 11, 2011 at 12:30 pm

I have an account but haven’t pinned anything yet… I think it’s because I use multiple computers, which makes it tough.

  24. Trainer Kjirsten @ Balanced Healthy Life on October 11, 2011 at 12:44 pm

I’ve never been on pinterest, but hear lots of great stories about it!

Today’s workout was a quick 10 minutes on the arc trainer for a warm up and then triceps and biceps. I hurt my foot so I’m doing a 5 day strength split in the gym this week instead of my normal pregnancy workout routine!

  25. kara on October 11, 2011 at 12:50 pm

looooove grilled asparagus. i’m gonna have to try to recreate it this winter with the grill pan.

hi, my name is kara and i am a pinterest addict. (http://pinterest.com/kleigh28/) unfortunately, i can’t log in at work because its through facebook (or maybe this is a good thing, because it forces me to do work? or procrastinate in other ways….)

I just signed up for Pinterest too… I held out for so long. I am going to have to get that new Google Chrome timer that locks out out of websites after a specific amount of time.

I would order your salmon salad in a second if it was on the menu:)

  27. Lauren on October 11, 2011 at 1:04 pm

Just think of pinterest as a better way to bookmark things. I love it, I think I may have gone overboard with the number of boards I created trying to keep it all organized lol.

  30. Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola on October 11, 2011 at 1:26 pm

Ohh your salad looks great!! I’m the same way about restaurant salads- I feel like I make really delicious salads at home, so restaurants usually have to step up their game in order for me to be impressed. And I haven’t gotten on the pinning board yet! I want to but everyone says it takes so much of their time, I’m not sure I need another thing like that!

  31. Katie on October 11, 2011 at 1:29 pm

Pinterest is addicting! I have gotten so many recipes and decorating ideas from it!

I’ll definitely be trying the leg workout today. Thanks Gina!

  32. Ali on October 11, 2011 at 1:58 pm

Haha, it is so true that it is so easy to get bored of salads at restaurants, when you can make one at home that is so awesome. I feel the exact same way. Your oats looked yummy too! I am doing P90X cardio x today, as well as some walking!

  33. Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups on October 11, 2011 at 1:59 pm

That salmon looks so delicious! I love salmon, but for some reason, raw salmon makes my mouth water more than how it looks when it’s cooked. That slimy, pre-grilled salmon, definitely gave me a craving!

  34. Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries on October 11, 2011 at 2:03 pm

Your salad looks so, so good!! I need to make one of those before “grilling season” is over.

  35. mi-an d. on October 11, 2011 at 2:36 pm

i totally agree re: salad in restaurants…that’s why i usually don’t order a 10 dollar salad when i can make an amazing salad at home. i also just started pinterest like 2 weeks!! hahah it’s soo fun!!

  36. Katie on October 11, 2011 at 2:45 pm

I did a killer leg workout as well yesterday and after doing a 1:13 minute run, I know I’m going to be SORE tomorrow! I’m making a salmon salad beast tonight with: escarole, chickpeas, tomatoes, mushrooms, red onion, red pepper, hummus, and mango salsa! It’s going to be a monster. 😉

    • Fitnessista on October 11, 2011 at 3:32 pm
