Pleasure to meet you

Hiiiii 😀 How are ya, lovely bloggies? Hope you’re having a wonderful humpday. I’m so glad you enjoyed the Reader’s Request post from earlier- I loved reading about your guilty pleasures.

Tonight, I made a *real* dinner!!!!

mahi

It’s about time, eh? My pilot was actually home tonight at dinnertime, so I celebrated the occasion by making a legit meal 😉

We had mahi mahi (the fish so nice, they named it twice) marinated in chickpea miso, rice vinegar, olive oil and red pepper flakes with an organic veggie mix of onions, spinach and peas that were seasoned with Nama Shoyu, garlic, sea salt and lemon juice.

With a little salad:

salad

Glorious!

Here are some of the highlights of today’s eats:

cookie

I had that chocolaty breakfast cookie beauty before meeting Ashley for a weights sesh. I can’t even tell you guys how AMAZING it feels to push myself of the weights again. I had gotten a little willy nilly with it for a while and now that I’m actually breaking a sweat while I weight train, muscles are starting to appear again along with the lost abbies, who sometimes hibernate in the winter. 😉 Who knew?!

One of my favorite bars:

bar

Beloved millet bread with nutritional yeast for protein 🙂

millet

Smoooooothie with almond milk, Sun Warrior vanilla protein, banana and cacao powder (it was a chocolaty kinda day) 😀

smoothie

I made some raw macaroons…

roondough

And went to pilates and Zumba.

I was rocking the only thing I own from Lululemon:

headband

I know, I know.

I’ve tried the pants on from Lulu, the shirts, everything and I just cant bring myself to buy anything there. If I’m going to splurge on clothes (which I do fairly often, heh) I want it so be on something beautiful and high-quality that I won’t be sweating like a beast in. I’m sure I’ll change my mind, but for now, the headband is all I’ve got 😉

NEW SHIRT from Ashley:

shirt

It says “Train”. Lurve 😀

Pilates was insane and Zumba was off the chizzle. Funny story: after class, I felt someone give me a light smack on the booty. I turned around and a girl from class said that I need to stop shaking it so fast because she can’t keep up, then proceeded to introduce herself and give me a hug. How’s that for an introduction?? Hahah, so random.

Now I’m back at the casa, in jammies and watching my dogs eat plain steamed peas and laughing at their silliness.

viesbell

They love veggies! I have no idea where they get it from 😉

Off to read in bed. I’m officially old.

Have a wonderful night <3

Gina

Workout song of the day: “Do You Remember” Jay Sean (I used it for a cool down song tonight)

I wish I could take one of your classes! I looove zumba, it makes me so happy and puts me in the best mood. I love the puppy pics.. my cat always steals lettuce from my salad when i’m not looking. Silly pets!

  2. Katie on February 3, 2010 at 9:43 pm

The “the fish so nice, they named it twice” comment made me giggle out loud. As a side note, I can’t stop flexing and squeezing my arms, the Intro to Iron Pumping is making noticeable differences already I think!

  3. Jessica @ The Process of Healing on February 3, 2010 at 9:44 pm

I love Mahi, Mahi. So good. Ok… I just love fresh fish in general haha And those bars are one of my favorites too. I can only find them at Whole Foods though.

Haha funny story!! Kinda strange though… would’ve freaked me out a tad bit 🙂

  4. Karyn on February 3, 2010 at 9:45 pm

hahah that is an AWESOME introduction 🙂

  5. Danielle (Coffee Run) on February 3, 2010 at 9:51 pm

Hahaa I can’t believe that girl smacked you on the butt! I don’t know if I’d feel uncomfortable or just laugh

The clothes are cute 🙂 I want to visit a lululemon!

  6. Annabananabomb on February 3, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Yeah, I always say “give me a hug” or “give me a kiss” especially when I’m meeting a person in a big group and I’m giving everyone else hugs and kisses… it just feels rude not to! But then again, Aussies are known for being pretty “hands on” hehe

  7. Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries on February 3, 2010 at 9:57 pm

I’ve been thinking that I need to reintroduce real dinners to my life haha. Yours looks fabulous. I’m also of the same “I only own one thing from Lulu” disciple. Sock in my case haha. I can’t bring myself to splurge on the yoga pants but maybe I’ll go for the headband. Does it stay in place when you run? I can’t ever find good treadmill/elliptical headbands bc they always fall off. Maybe it’s just my head shape? haha

  8. Heather (Heather's Dish) on February 3, 2010 at 10:00 pm

that’s a great intro! haha, that made me laugh a little when i read it 🙂

  9. Ryan @ Greens for Good on February 3, 2010 at 10:02 pm

Try out the outlet next time you’re in Orlando! Same great stuff, fabulously low prices! And working out in lulu stuff is so freaking amazing. As is wearing it around like normal everyday clothing 🙂

  10. Rachel on February 3, 2010 at 10:06 pm

You may have this in another post but I’m a relatively new follower and was wondering, what are the best exercises to focus on lower abs? (I want to work on that little part below my belly button that I can pinch!) Thanks!!

  11. Jamie on February 3, 2010 at 10:08 pm

totally agree; it feels so good to step up the weights and sweat while lifting!

  12. Ashley on February 3, 2010 at 10:25 pm

Lol. I would love to meet someone like that! My life is devoid of fun people.

  13. Sara on February 3, 2010 at 10:26 pm

I love mahi mahi!!! Especially mahi mahi tacos…mmm.
Yep a headband is the only thing I own from Lululemon too- I have the same mentality about buying clothes 🙂

  14. Salah@myhealthiestlifestyle on February 3, 2010 at 10:37 pm

Mahi Mahi is by far one of my favorite fishies!!! I really like to bake it with some peach chipotle dressing on there!!

  15. Jackie (Army Wife) on February 3, 2010 at 10:39 pm

Cute shirt! Hmm I’ve never tried anything from Lululemon but maybe if I try something on I’d change my mine? I’m torn between wearing an old man’s Hanes shirt to the gym and looking semi-cute… Oh and I LOVE those dark wood cabinets!

  16. Run Sarah on February 3, 2010 at 10:51 pm

Your pups are too cute – I have to try my dog on peas, he loves carrots already!

  17. Jessica (Fit and Clean) on February 3, 2010 at 10:58 pm

I actually had a friend I haven’t seen in 3 years call me “bony” yesterday. To me, that means I need to go home and increase my resistance training, LOL! Whenever I start running I lean out quick, and I think it’s happened again. Not a bad thing, but I need to find balance!

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:36 am

it also can have a lot to do with your eats… just need to make sure you’re fueling your body for all of that running 🙂

  18. La on February 3, 2010 at 11:00 pm

AhhH I wouldn’t be able to buy a headband because I lose those like loose change! I just buy packs of cheap Goody ones from the drugstore… Yours is supercute though.

  19. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on February 3, 2010 at 11:16 pm

I NEEEEEED to find that nutritional yeast!!! 🙂 🙂

  20. Leah on February 3, 2010 at 11:21 pm

I cant bring myself to buy anything from Lululemon either. I just dont think my most expensive clothes should be the ones I sweat in. I buy my workout clothes from Superstore (its canadian, but I dont know what to compare it to) and they’ve always worked great for me.

  21. Teri on February 3, 2010 at 11:25 pm

I feel the same way about workout clothes! Glad it’s not just me. 🙂

Where do you buy millet bread? Is it frozen like Ezekial?

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:35 am

i get it at the health store- whole foods carries it too
      and yup, it’s frozen

  22. Destiny on February 3, 2010 at 11:42 pm

    Hey a couple questions:

what is the deal with the egg whites in the oatmeal? can you do that in the microwave? Is it just more protein?

How do you make your egg puffs and why do you eat them? (im guessing protein as well)

and, where can i find pumpkin in a can now that its out of season, i have checked out in all the grocery stores, walmart, trader joes and just today at whole foods? I am so sad! Any tips in finding it

thank you so much! I love that you reply to my answers!!

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:34 am

      hey destiny,
i actually haven’t tried the egg whites in oatmeal.. and have no desire to. that just sounds so unappetizing to me!
i also don’t usually eat canned pumpkin, unless it’s in season (around fall) because that’s when i crave it… then i buy the can of organic pumpin from whole foods.
the egg puffs are cooked in the microwave in a glass bowl sprayed with olive oil

  23. Marshall on February 3, 2010 at 11:55 pm

I love the new cool down in Zumba! You should record the dance to “El Dueno del Swing!” I always work up a sweat when we do that dance. Love the headband, I definitely need one!

  24. Laura @ Backstage Pass to Health & Happiness on February 4, 2010 at 12:03 am

Hey lady! That mahi mahi sounds yummy-yummy.
Have you coreographed any Zumba to Lady GaGa’s ‘Alejandro’ yet? That seems like a perfect song for it!

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:32 am

      no i haven’t! but i should… that song is awesome 🙂

      • Laura @ Backstage Pass to Health & Happiness on February 4, 2010 at 10:21 am

Awesome! I have a request for the next Zumba video (if you decide to make another) – the ‘Bad Romance’ Zumba dance? Please, for all of us GaGa head out here? 🙂

        • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 10:24 am

sure! i’ll have to find a remix for it though because lately the usual version has felt slow to me

  25. Mama Pea on February 4, 2010 at 12:12 am

Holy bis and tris, sister! I’ve been focusing more on weights too lately, and there is something to be said for less cardio, more lifting!

    Have a great day!!!

  26. caroline on February 4, 2010 at 12:34 am

awww the Lulu is so worth the splurge – you can get a discount @ the store for being a fitness instructor through their “research and development team” – its 15 % off! Every little bit helps!

Would love to connect with you through an email, but am having trouble 🙁 Hopefully something works soon! I think you are awesome!

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:31 am

      i didn’t know they gave a discount if you’re a fitness instructor! that’s amazing!
sorry i haven’t responded to your email yet.. i’m still slowly trudging through the inbox :/

  27. Sarah Anne on February 4, 2010 at 1:54 am

I’ve been boycotting Lululemon for YEARS and I live in Vancouver where it all began! However, the boy has wanted yoga pants and we have looked high and low and could not find ones that fit and felt like Lulu’s. For his birthday this year I bit the big one and purchased a pair for him. They’re like…gold to him. He hangs them up, we wash and air dry…he treats them better than anything else he owns! He says they are amazingly supportive and WARM when he needs them. The other part we loved is the experience of trying them on, getting them hemmed etc.

I tend to think it’s a bit TOO cultish…and I can’t bear to spend over 100 on a HOODIE, but for him, the pants were worth it. 🙂 I also have a yoga mat from them and I *Love* it. (I find it hard to find mats that aren’t too slippery!)

  28. Susan on February 4, 2010 at 1:59 am

Hope you enjoyed reading last night. Yeah Lululemon clothes are expensive but I think they’re a good investment, I’ve had tops and hoodies that I’ve worn so much and they still look like new. Plus it’s a bonus wearing Luluelemon clothes here because practically nobody has heard of Lululemon in Ireland so no one will ever be wearing the same clothes as me in the gym. Nike clothes here are popular, I’ve known of people who have got a good deal on a flight from Dublin to the States and spent two days in America stocking up on Nike gear and sports gear! I probably spend less on my party and going out clothes because I know most of the clothes will be out of fashion in the next season so I buy cheapish dresses and skirts apart from jeans, love Seven jeans as well!

  29. Jaclyn on February 4, 2010 at 2:28 am

Um someone seriously smacked your butt?!! That’s weird! I thought you were gonna say the pilot came by to surprise you or something… “how’s that for an introduction” is one way to put it :/ haha

  30. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on February 4, 2010 at 6:14 am

Is that shirt from VS? THey have the cutest workout stuff right now! And I am DYING for a lulu around here…not a one. 🙁

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:30 am

      yup, its from vs 🙂

  31. Jessica @ WHY DONTCHA RUN on February 4, 2010 at 6:56 am

Haha – WOW… that was quite the introduction.

I love that your puppies eat veggies! 🙂 I picked up some raw sweet potato treats for my puppy at the farms market this weekend and he loves them! I recently started making his treats at home with pumpkin, peanut butter and wheat flour as a base and he loves them. We’ve gotta take care of our babies. 😉

  32. Jenna @ EatingGreen,StayingLean on February 4, 2010 at 7:11 am

Definitely an adorable shirt! And that dinner looks AWESOME.

  33. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on February 4, 2010 at 7:32 am

I love mahi mahi but I’ve never made it at home because I haven’t ever seen any that look good at the food store. I probably should go to a fish market and get some. I don’t own anything from lululemon either, I would also rather than more jeans 🙂

  34. Paige (Running Around Normal) on February 4, 2010 at 7:58 am

I love that headband! And I seriously wear my Lulu clothes around town, out to run errands, and even a couple of things out at night. I’m obsessed!

Good for you for challenging yourself in the weight room. Way to go 😀

That’s such a funny intro story haha – yes very random!

  35. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on February 4, 2010 at 8:12 am

Mmm, fish looks delish (sorry for the cheese-tastic rhyming there, lol)

I LOVE lululemon. Expensive, yes, but I agree with Paige above- they are NOT just for working out! Super comfy, but super durable too… I think they’re worth the price, but I am still building my collection =D

    xo
    K

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:30 am

maybe i will have to try them….

  36. Island Girl Eats on February 4, 2010 at 8:12 am

I know exactly what you mean about spending a lot on work-out clothes. I can’t bring myself to do it. I run a lot, and even though I obviously wash my running clothes after each use, you can’t get the smell out! A $16 pair of Champion shorts from Target are no different than a $55 pair from Lululemon. I will spend money on a good sports bra and obviously good running shoes – but that is where the buck stops!

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:29 am

      amen 😀

  37. Katie Davis @ Pop Culture Cuisine on February 4, 2010 at 8:17 am

I would have to agree with all of the Lulu comments about not being able to make the splurge. I love their stuff and have been especially considering the “TaTa tamer” for an upcoming 1/2 marathon, but when I looked at the price tag I almost swallowed my tongue. I would rather buy shoes 🙂

  38. Sara @ Activegal on February 4, 2010 at 8:36 am

Your Mahi Mahi looks delicious! I envy your cooking skills 🙂 Can you teach me a thing or too? 🙂 Cute shirt!!

  39. Lisa on February 4, 2010 at 8:58 am

That’s funny about your doggies eating veggies. I just fed mine leftover chicken and butter beans. That booty slap was crazy coming from a stranger; Bet that caught you off-guard I can see your face now!

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:29 am

hahah it did catch me off guard, but she was so nice! hahah

  40. amber on February 4, 2010 at 9:00 am

oh i LOVE that shirt! do you know where Ashley bought it? or just what brand it is? i want. 🙂 and i must say your arms are looking nice and toned in the shirt, too! also, unrelated, i recall a while back you discussing sneakers, but i can’t remember what brand you wear? i’m getting orthotics custom-made for my feet from a podiatrist and i’m supposed to be buying a new pair of New Balance sneakers for them. the past five or so sneakers i’ve worn have been Nike because they tend to run narrow, and i have a narrow foot! but the doctor says i have to buy a brand that’s a bit wider so the orthotics will fit in them. do you have any suggestions at which type of New Balance to buy to use for use on the treadmill (RAD :), elliptical and strength training at the gym? thanks so much, Gina! i appreciate any advice you might have to offer. about the shirt and/or shoes!

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 9:28 am

      hey amber,
it’s from victorias secret- vsx. thank you about the arm compliment, too 🙂
i run in asics (gt something) and love them so much.
      hope this helps a little!

  41. Abby on February 4, 2010 at 9:10 am

Ahhh hahahah! I would have felt so violated! I don’t think I’d ever be able to look at her in class again! Only my husband smacks my butt!

  42. Lauren @ Eater not a runner on February 4, 2010 at 9:28 am

I love lululemon but it is hard to justify shelling out that sort of cash!

  43. Jo on February 4, 2010 at 9:30 am

Hi Gina, just want to say I love your blog. I’ve only been blogging for about 10 months but really love it and hope to be as inspirational to others someday as you are.

    I *heart* mahi-mahi too 🙂

  44. Jodie on February 4, 2010 at 9:31 am

I did the same thing at Lululemon. I saw the prices and said no way, so I ended up a buying 2 headbands.:) Maybe they will have a sale soon.

  45. Casey on February 4, 2010 at 9:45 am

Hi Gina! I love that your dogs are such good eaters, mine is a spoiled snob who turns his nose up at anything fruit or vegetable related. I think he gets if from his father 😉

So, I have been doing the HTP Intro to Iron Pumping workouts and have been loving them. I’m trying to mix things up on my own for variety, but I fear my muscles have been getting “bored.” Have you considered creating some more similar routines, something like intermediate and advanced lessons on iron pumping? You’re a busy girl, so I will not be offended at all if you don’t have the time to do it! As always, thanks for your writing!

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 10:23 am

      hey casey,
i’m so glad you’re enjoying the workouts!
yes, i’ve thought about it– i think in a few weeks i’ll be making a new one for caitlin so that will be posted, too 🙂

      • Casey on February 4, 2010 at 11:41 am

        Yay! Thanks!

  46. Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place on February 4, 2010 at 9:47 am

How did you cook the mahi mahi? It’s my favorite fish but I only eat it when I’m at a restaurant. I’m scared I’ll ruin it for myself by messing it up at home

    • Fitnessista on February 4, 2010 at 10:23 am

      hey morgan,
i pan-seared it for about a 30 seconds on each side then baked it at 375 for about 12 minutes

  47. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin on February 4, 2010 at 9:52 am

My dog loves eating her veggies, too! Her favorites are baby carrots and butter lettuce– she’s such a begger if I’m eating those! And if I even get a knife out to cut up a melon, she’s immediately at my side, waiting for a bit of it to drop on the floor. 🙂

I agree about spending money on workout clothes! I can’t bring myself do it, even though Lululemon stuff is really cute! Maybe I’ll hit a sale one day…

  48. Shannon on February 4, 2010 at 10:32 am

I looooove the lulu products I own (mostly from eBay), but can’t bring myself to buy the stuff at full price. I got 3 giftcards for Christmas, and I STILL feel guilty “spending” that much!

  49. Emily on February 4, 2010 at 10:42 am

Haha what an introduction. I had the opposite happen to me on my 2nd Zumba class. After class I introduced myself to the teach, and on my way out / saying bye she lightly smacked by booty and said good job tonight girl.

  50. Andrea (Off Her Cork) on February 4, 2010 at 10:44 am

I can’t bring myself to purchase Luluemon either. Their stuff is just way too expensive. I’m sure it’s great quality but I cannot pay close to or $100 for something my junk is gonna sweat in. You know?

P.S. I love this week’s shapeup routine! I really like that you posted pics of yourself doing the moves, makes it easier when I’m working off the laptop because I can see the moves all on one page. 🙂
