Relaxing noodle playlist

Hiiii 🙂 Happy humpday! Hope your morning is going well. Thank you so much for your awesome advice in my last post. My friend reads the blog and I know she’ll appreciate your wise words <3

I’m teaching today at the resort (a cardio circuit class, stretch class, and assisting the rest of the day) and thought I’d share my extra comfy Stretch playlist with ya.

Stretching is so important- not only for injury prevention, but for mental sanity. It feels.so.good. Remember to set aside at least 5 minutes of stretching every day- your body will thank ya 🙂

yoga

Enjoy this playlist for your next stretch sesh, at-home yoga practice, study marathon or before-bedtime treat 🙂

Stretch Playlist:

image

(Since I can’t figure out how to change song orders on my iPhone, just going to hit “shuffle” and see what happens since I have blocks of the same artists together)

A new favorite (kinda random) snack:

tortilla

Brown rice tortilla with goat cream cheese and green salsa. Looks funny, tastes foodgasmic.

For lunch today, I wanted to do something easy so I’d have time to walk Bella this morning, so I picked up some brown rice California rolls at TJs:

sushi

and packed it up with 2 amazeballz, some broccoli slaw + gluten-free Tamari pack leftover from a Pei Wei night 🙂

lunch

Perfect lunch/snacks 😀

I’m off to do the work thang, but I’ll see ya with a Fashion post and a regular post this afternoon <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What’s your favorite beautiful, relaxing song? I’d love your help beefing up my playlist 🙂

Something to do: Make sure to *follow me on OpenSky* if you’d like tomorrow’s Twin Cakes deal:

twin cakes

Baked cake donut mix (!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <—- there are not enough exclamation marks in the world), Cinnamon Cocoa Kremes, Mesquite Cocoa biscotti and CHEEZ CRACKERS.

I had high hopes for the Cheez Crackers, since I’m obsessed with the ones from One Lucky Duck:

crackers

The twins win. Not only do they taste EXACTLY the same, the texture is lighter and crispier. Bonus: you get more in a bag 😉 I can usually finish off a OLD bag no prob, but only ate half of the twin’s. Winner winner, more crackers for dinner 😉

I absolutely adore Adele. Both her albums are amazing. She has an incredible voice. I am so glad you included her on your playlist! 🙂

    • Jackie on May 11, 2011 at 10:24 am

And I didn’t answer the question…which I meant to. I love Colbie Caillat for my chill music.

I am obsessed with that Trader Joe’s salsa verde… as soon as I saw it on your blog I had to try it. Yum 🙂

    2 things:
    1) Michael Buble makes my heart melt – I LOVE the song you used in the video of the Pilot coming home, “Home” – sooooo good!
    2) Brown rice sushi is the bomb!! You’re making me crave it and it’s not even 10am!! 🙂

    Have a fab day Gina!

I listen to my old Enya CDs when I’m stretching. I just love that music and I find it so calming.

That tortilla/goat cheese/salsa looks super good.

  6. Lindsey on May 11, 2011 at 9:55 am

I’ve been listening to Joshua Radin a lot while I’m doing yoga or pilates at home. A few weeks ago in flow yoga, the instructor told me to bring the album and it integrated perfectly. It’s super great.

How do you eat your broccoli slaw? just plain? I love it, but am having a difficult time figuring out how to use it beyond in normal cole-slaw and in wraps (which it is AWESOME in).

  7. ilovefetacheese on May 11, 2011 at 9:56 am

Do you do something special to warm up your tortillas? I tried the Foods for Life brown rice tortilla and hateeeeddd it (warmed it up in microwave with a damp paper towel). it just had an awful rubbery-ness!

Check out these songs — they’re fantastic:

The Funeral — Band of Horses
World Spins Madly On — The Weepies
Better than Love — Griffin House
    Orange Sky — Alexi Murdoch
    Into Dust — Mazzy Star
    Teardrops — Massive Attack
All I Need — Mat Kearney

    • Paige on May 11, 2011 at 10:35 am

Band of Horses, Orange Sky, and Mat Kearney are some of my faves right now! Good suggestions 🙂

anything by john mayer is relaxing to me!

  10. Bridget on May 11, 2011 at 10:18 am

Love the playlist. My favorite right now is “Your Song,” a remake by Ellie Goulding. It’s so peaceful and lovely!

  12. Courtney on May 11, 2011 at 10:22 am

What is broccoli slaw and how do I make some? 🙂

    • Jillian on May 11, 2011 at 12:29 pm

Broccoli slaw is essentially shredded broccoli stalk with a little bit of shredded carrot. If you want to make your own just wash and peel your leftover broccoli stalks, then either grate them with a large grater by hand or use a food processor. Trader Joes sells it pre-made for a pretty good price too! Hope this helps! 🙂

      • Fitnessista on May 11, 2011 at 3:55 pm

thanks girl! (i just buy mine from TJs for a dollar-something)

  13. Katherine on May 11, 2011 at 10:26 am

“Dream”, By Alice Smith is such a beautiful, sweet song.

  14. Chelsea on May 11, 2011 at 10:31 am

I always like to listen to Enya. When I was young I got really ill for weeks and my mom always played Enya in the background, so sometimes when I listen to her I think I am dying! lol! But it is till really relaxing.

  15. jenna on May 11, 2011 at 10:32 am

yum the twins goodies look and sound awesome! have a great day at work!

  16. Paige on May 11, 2011 at 10:34 am

^I agree with john mayer being relaxing!

I also ADORE Balmorhea (especially the ‘All is Wild, All is Silent’ album) and James Vincent McMorrow 🙂 Oh, and Freelance Whales! (The song Generator First Floor got me hooked)

  17. kt on May 11, 2011 at 10:37 am

    The goodies look fantastic!

Lately I’ve been post-run stretching to “One Day” by Matisyahu. It makes me happy and hopeful. Now I look forward to checking out the other suggestions.

  18. Amanda (Eating Up) on May 11, 2011 at 10:47 am

I am loving Adele right now! I also like Lady A’s slow songs.

  19. Emily on May 11, 2011 at 10:47 am

Some artists that I love for relaxing: Of Porcelain (You are the Sun is a such beautiful song!); Zero 7; some Moby stuff (like the ambient Hotel album); Deva Premal; Jeff Buckley; BT.

If nothing else, check out Of Porcelain’s A Southern Summer’s Breeze album. I think it’s lovely!

  20. Heather (heathers dish) on May 11, 2011 at 10:50 am

I did some yoga this morning for stretching and feel kind of amazing…I used to hate stretching and now I can’t NOT do it!

  21. Katirie on May 11, 2011 at 10:51 am

Josh Grobin’s “You Raise Me Up.” It was the Body Pump cool down song a while ago and I fell in love with it.

  22. cathy on May 11, 2011 at 10:56 am

enya always makes me feel very mellow. i always have my massage therapist pop in his enya collection when i see him! great suggestion re stretching: yup, just 5 minutes a day can make a world of difference both mentally and physically! have a great work day!

  23. Ashley @ Feeding Ashley on May 11, 2011 at 10:57 am

My chill music is anything by A Fine Frenzy, Adele, and Corinne Bailey Rae. I love to stretch. When I was younger I was super flexible, and I’m trying to work my way back there.

  24. Jenny on May 11, 2011 at 11:02 am

I bought some broccoli slaw the other day and I couldn’t figure out what to do with it! Do you just eat this plan or mix in a little sauce? Thanks!

    • Jillian on May 11, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I usually make broccoli slaw with a Greek yogurt sauce, but really anything you can do to regular slaw you can do to broccoli slaw. Or just use it to add extra crunch to wraps and sandwiches!

I listen to Bob Marley when I’m wanting to chill–nothing like “Three Little Birds” to get your mind right. 🙂 I like Jason Mraz and the Weepies too.

  26. Molly on May 11, 2011 at 11:24 am

Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri…and the Glee Cast Version is also really good!!! 🙂

Such Great Heights (the remake by Iron & Wine is nice and slow and great for a stretch) and This Year’s Love by David Gray are two that I ALWAYS come back to. Love love love. Also, I knew exactly what your snack was before I even read the caption (like, that it was a brown rice tortilla and goat cream cheese as opposed to corn and cow’s milk). Apparently I have been reading this blog for a while 🙂 Have a great day!

  29. Niki on May 11, 2011 at 11:39 am

I love, love, love songs by Sia, if you haven’t heard from her check her out. My absolute fav for cool down stretching time is “Breathe Me”, you’ll love it 🙂

P.S. First time commenting, long time reader! Thanks for keeping me entertained at work 😉

Always has and always will be one of my favorite relaxing songs <3

  31. Sonia (the Mexigarian) on May 11, 2011 at 11:54 am

Jason Mraz always has feel good chillin’ kind of songs. I simply love his music. He definitely soothes me when I get stuck in Bay Area traffic. 🙂

Colbie Callait . . . Adele. Yep, like those too.

  32. Megan on May 11, 2011 at 12:01 pm

The Pride and Prejudice Soundtrack (Keira Knightley version) is amazing. Some songs are violin – and may be too much but the piano tracks (like the first one on the album) are AWESOME.

  33. Stefanie @TheNewHealthy on May 11, 2011 at 12:14 pm

Oh, I must try those cheez crackers! Yum! 🙂

The Presets – Girl and the Sea
    Donovan – Hurdy Gurdy Man
    The Flys – Got You
Christina Perri – Jar of Hearts
James Taylor – Carolina in My Mind

  35. Jillian on May 11, 2011 at 12:25 pm

I am really digging Lady Antebellum’s “Hello World”for cool down right now. Also howie day’s “Collide”.

  36. Michelle on May 11, 2011 at 12:30 pm

My newly gluten-free diet has led me to brown rice tortillas, but I haven’t found any that I like yet. I’m planning on giving TJ’s a try soon! 🙂

    As for chill songs…
    1. Alexi Murdoch is incredible. “Orange Sky” and “Song for You”
    2. David Gray. “Holding On” is a new favorite.
    3. The XX. Almost all of their songs are really chill. The lead singers are a guy and a girl, and their voices are so amazing and soothing together. “Islands”, “Crystallized”, “Infinity”, and “Stars” are my favorites.

  37. Kathy on May 11, 2011 at 12:32 pm

How to Save a Life – Fray and Somewhere Only We Know – Keane.

    Hey! great playlist!

and if your IPhone is like mine, to change the songs around you have to:

    click on your playlist
(you’ll see three buttons at the top -> EDIT, CLEAR, and DELETE)
    click on “EDIT”
(you’ll see three bars pop up on the side of each song title….touch the bars on the right side of the song title, and while holding it down, drag it to wherever you want it to go…you’ll be able to move them up, down, etc…)

make sense? hope that was what you were looking for!! 🙂

Listening to Iron & Wine while relaxing or doing yoga really works for me, for some reason—the Woman King EP, especially.

  42. diana on May 11, 2011 at 1:16 pm

you often mention how important it is to stretch a little every day. Can you share a few “must do” stretches that I can make a part of my nightly routine? thank you!!

    • Fitnessista on May 11, 2011 at 3:54 pm

sure that would be an awesome reader’s request! 🙂

  43. Meghan on May 11, 2011 at 1:25 pm

    Tornado by Jonsi. So good.

Also, I wholeheartedly agree about stretching. I always used to skimp on stretching (why stretch when you can get an extra 5 minutes of running in?!) but after having done yoga teacher training, I see the proverbial stretching light…and its glorious 🙂

  44. Gina @Running to the Kitchen on May 11, 2011 at 1:36 pm

love, love, love Adele on my workout playlist. Anything Jack Johnson is my go-to relaxing music.

  45. Leitadala on May 11, 2011 at 1:56 pm

What daily stretching do you recommend? I find it hard to pick just 5 mins worth, and then I end up not stretching at all because it takes too much time out of the day when I try to do too many stretches!

    • Fitnessista on May 11, 2011 at 3:52 pm

each day, focus on something different if it seems like there’s too much. or you could do upper body one day, lower the next, etc

  46. fittingbackin on May 11, 2011 at 2:07 pm

oooh great soundtrack – I love wh en you share these!

  47. Melissa Strickland on May 11, 2011 at 2:36 pm

This is really random, but My Man by The Eagles. Its not a popular song, whatsoever, but its a beautiful song (especially if you like the eagles, like i do lol) Also most songs by donovan frankenreiter, love him.

  50. kaila @ healthy helper! on May 11, 2011 at 3:05 pm
