Road Trippin’

Heyyyyyy Open-mouthed smile How are ya?

We’re in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, about to get on the road. So glad you liked Mara’s guest post– she’s pretty much amazing <3

I drove for 11 hours yesterday! It was intense, but I was so happy to have the puppers and Madre with me.

A little tip for ya:

bass pro2

Bass Pro Shop is an ideal travel rest stop if you have pets. They allow dogs and you can shake your legs and do a lap around the store with them.

And you can pose with hoodie mannequins if you like Winking smile

bass pro

After our long day on the road and Bass Pro stop, I introduced the Madre to the glory of Longhorn Steakhouse

and we checked into the hotel Smile

Dinner was the Longhorn standard:

longhorn (2)

Salad, perfect buttery salmon, plain baked sweet potato and veg

+ crusty wheaty bread

uh huh uh huh uh huh

This morning, I got up a little early so I could do the workout thang. I did a 30 minute yoga flow in the hotel room, ab work, and the 5 minute cardio video I’ll be posting when I get it uploaded to YouTube Smile

 Breakfast:

cereal

Breakfast cookie dough cereal topped with chia seeds- the madre brought a GIANT bag with her Smile

Have a wonderful Indian Food Wednesday and I’ll see ya later today!

xoxo

best road trip destination is ALWAYS california in my book…we went every summer to san francisco (from Texas!!!) to see my grandparents!

  15. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on December 8, 2010 at 11:01 am

You sure know how to make a road trip fun! I’ve only done a couple road trips… mainly to move my siblings or I into college. But I’ve done one which I drove for 8 hours alone and just blasted music at the top of my lungs–and I didn’t even feel guilty for the multiple rest stops I took 🙂

  16. Marg on December 8, 2010 at 11:03 am

Ahh…I know that section of I-10 too well, from Covington, LA to Houston, TX – lots of driving in the past few years. You’ll be passing through my home town soon, Lafayette.

I would love to do a road trip and explore different areas. I want to drive the hill country in Texas.

  17. Joanna@ Drizzle of Sunshine on December 8, 2010 at 11:10 am

Don’t you just love spending q-time with your mom? Makes me want to take a trip with mine 🙂 The salmon looks tasty!! YAY for roadtrip food!!

  19. Fallon on December 8, 2010 at 11:13 am

I love your ambition to get your workouts in. I need to learn how to workout without depending on going to a gym. Your a huge inspiration and that will be a new challenge for me coming in January!

  20. LisaG on December 8, 2010 at 11:17 am

Y’all are making progress. Bass Pro Shop is crazy during the holiday season. We stopped there on the way back from north georgia over thanksgiving. It was like wally world in a hunting store!

  21. RhodeyGirl on December 8, 2010 at 11:24 am

And now I have a serious craving for a perfect baked potato.

Glad to see the road trip is fun! You’re definitely making the best of it.. I love that!!!

I could spend HOURS in those mega gas station rest stops. I think it is so fascinating to see what crazy things they sell. And the fact that people take showers there.

  27. Mimi on December 8, 2010 at 12:01 pm

I don’t think my mom’s even heard of chia seeds before!

  28. mi-an dela cruz on December 8, 2010 at 12:05 pm

  29. Wendy Elliot on December 8, 2010 at 12:11 pm

Roadtrip destination – the beach! Only about a 4 hour drive from Vegas. And eastern Washington – we will be road tripping it there next week to visit family for Christmas. Almost 1000 miles one way. I feel your need to walk around Bass Pro Shops, there is only so much sitting one can take! Safe travels

  30. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on December 8, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Haha I love the pic of you and the mannequins. Bass Pro Shops never fail to remind me of my ex…he loved that place, and the only time I’ve ever set foot in one was to buy him a gift card there for his birthday. Hope you have a safe day of traveling love!!

  31. Kiran on December 8, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Yum! I never knew Longhorn serves salmon as well. Would not avoid the Steakhouse now that I know they also serve salmon! Have a happy road trip Gina and Madre 😉

  32. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on December 8, 2010 at 12:30 pm

You’ve been majorly lucking out with dog-friendly hotels, huh? Or maybe I just have no idea how many hotels allow dogs. I would think it’d be hard to find. But yay!

  33. Amanda/RunningOnCoffee on December 8, 2010 at 12:37 pm

I love the picture of your pup looking at you posing with the mannequins.

Longhorn Steakhouse is good! though I haven’t been there in a while. I loved their apple cider martini from a couple years ago (I assume they still make it).

  34. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on December 8, 2010 at 12:47 pm

11 hours driving is so intense! My legs start cramping up after driving for only 2 hours. At least you have your mom with you to keep you company though! 😀

  35. Laura @ Backstage Pass on December 8, 2010 at 12:57 pm

Sounds like you ladies are having a great trip so far! Your Mama is so sweet to have brought you a giant bag of chia seeds 🙂
Thanks for the tip about Bass Pro Shop! That store is awesome and hilarious. When my boyfriend and I go there, it’s like he’s a kid again.

My computer was down yesterday, so I’ve first got to say I’m so sorry you were so unhappy in Orlando, but I’m happy you’ve got a great Mom to support you –and a great place to go. I love to go on road trips to San Diego where I grew up. My sisters and I used to pack ourselves and babies into one car and drive down together every year. I miss those times. Now we all live in different parts of the country. Hooray for holidays when we all get together again!

  39. Gracie @ Girl Meets Life on December 8, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Road trips are the best!!! Especially when taken with moms 😀 My mom and I took a road trip from PA to Florida in April. We had SUCH a blast.

Enjoy the rest of your trip! xoxo

  42. Kate on December 8, 2010 at 1:52 pm

Yay Baton Rouge! The husband and I are big LSU fans! That is definitely good to know that you can take dogs into Bass Pro Shops! I would never have guessed…

Be safe! I just drove across the country (VA to CA) for a move last summer so I know that its hard to put in those long days. But it will be worth it when you get there!

  43. nicole on December 8, 2010 at 2:22 pm

I don’t like being in the car for more than an hour and a half so kudos to you! My favorite destination would be L.A. because it’s close and there’s a ton of stuff to do or Palm Springs where it’s warm and sunny. Looks like you’re having fun on your road trip!

  44. ida on December 8, 2010 at 2:41 pm

Good luck with day 2- i’m guessing you’ll be in texas for a while!

  49. Lindsay M on December 8, 2010 at 3:49 pm

My sis lives in BR, LA. ALso, I had NO idea about Bass Pro Shop allowing animals. Altough my BIG lab would probably pee on the manequins. 🙁 Good luck on teh rest of your travels!

  50. Catherine on December 8, 2010 at 4:07 pm

I’m so glad you’re having fun on this trip! Your positivity is really inspiring. It’s adorbs that your mom knew to bring chia seeds on the roadtrip. Aren’t moms wonderful? Best of luck on the rest of the trip. I’m glad to hear that things are working out for the better for you!
