They know me too well

Hey hey hey! Happy Monday! I’m still cracking up from reading your rapper names 😀 Hilarious.

Somehow this week doesn’t seem like such a doozy.. I’m stoked for holiday time! The only bummer is that I miss my family a lot during this time of the year… good news is that I’ll see them in January 😀

So yesterday, the pilot and I tackled 6 miles in 55 minutes and then walked around and stretched for a while. For the first time, I didn’t feel horribly uncomfortable running with him! His legs are about twice as long and he has to slow down big time to keep my pace. Since he worked out his legs earlier in the day, I think it was easier for him to go my speed 😉

I had a training appointment, and then I came back to the casa to enjoy our standard Sunday night grilled meal.

dinner

Baked organic sweet potato with goat jack cheese, scallions and cayenne, grilled squash, zucchini, tomatoes and onions with rosemary, garlic powder, sea salt and pepper. The pilot also had some organic burgers with jalapenos and steak sauce. It was pretty tasty wasty 😀

I’m thinking I need to stop yapping to my clients so much, because they know me too well.

Funny quotes lady surprised me with this bundle of goodness after her appointment last night:

gifty

An aluminum water bottle with a “G” on there and a super cute makeup bag FILLED with all of my favorite health food store goodies: almond butter, Mary’s crack, Sugar Cookie tea, raw revolution bars, Ginger-gize drink. Amazing, right?? She basically hooked me up with all of my favorite snacks to take to Tennessee 😉

And you guys know that Tinkerbell (my nickname for another one of my clients) got me the Mandy Ingber Yogalosophy DVD and a Bizzle gift card.

ingber

Which brings me to:

REVIEW TIME!

Mandy Ingber is well-known for being Jennifer Aniston’s yoga instructor. I think Jennifer Aniston has a banging body, and know that a great fitness routine might have something to do with it 😉 That piqued my interest right there, along with the fact that I LOOOOOOOOVE me some yoga.

After starting the DVD –I skipped the intros because my attention span is a little on the short side when it comes to fitness DVDs… I want to get started right away- and was blown away by the incredible shape Mandy Ingber is in, as well.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that fitness instructors have to look a certain way for me to like them (we’ve had this little chat before) but if someone is the picture of excellent health, I’m going to listen to what they have to say.

I really enjoyed how the DVD is set up:

– You hold each pose for 8 breaths and then follow that pose with a toning move that works the same muscles and has an identical flow of movement. For example, you hold a crescent lunge for 8 breaths, and then go into lunges with pulsing lunges at the end.

-I’ve never tried this type of workout pattern and it amazed me how quickly it fatigued my muscles. By the end of every single set, I was shaking like a leaf.

-Another bonus: I want to be friends with Mandy. She cracked me up with her little anecdotes and her mantra (!!!), and she has an extremely likeable personality. Sometimes I can’t wait for yoga instructors to STOP talking (cough *Dave Farmar* cough), but I wanted to go out for coffee with Mandy when the DVD was over.

-Once you memorize the proper form and Mandy’s script, you can view the workout in silence with soft music in the background. I really like having this option because memorizing certain flows and podcasts keeps me from doing them over again. This way, I can keep doing the workout without knowing what she’s going to say before she says it.

– This DVD is a yoga and traditional strength training hybrid. It’s cool because it offers something new and different for yogis and weight trainers alike (and if you usually do both, it’s a fun combination).

– I give this DVD two almond butter-covered thumbs up and would recommend it to any yoga or fitness lover. The workout is effective, easy to follow and a total blasty. And if it makes my booty look as good as Mandy’s when I’m her age, I’m all about it 😉

Have a great day, bloggies!

xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: Are you a big workout DVD fan?? What are your favorites? I don’t usually do DVDs at home, but they’re amazing for traveling and for shaking things up a bit. My favorites are all of the Zumba DVDs, Mandy’s yoga DVD and the Winsor pilates DVDs.

I usually don’t do too many DVDs at home, but occasionally I’ll pop in a P90x or yoga!

  2. Erica on December 21, 2009 at 8:29 am

Hey Gina!! How are you? The grilled dinner looks fabulous! I still haven’t tried that goat jack but it just sounds heavenly. VERY sweet of your clients to get you things you love. Thank you for the review. Hope you have a good day today

I’m glad you liked the DVD. I ordered it last week, but it’s on backorder so…maybe I’ll have it by January. I already have about a zillion yoga DVDs, but that’s one thing you can never have too many of.

I’m loving the water bottle and bag! I told my boyfriend I’m adding one to my Christmas list. How thoughtful of your clients! What part of TN are you going to be in? I’m from Tn too(Chattanooga).

I am not usually a fan of workout DVD’s because they don’t tend to be super challenging, especially after you do them a couple of times. However, I’ve never tried P90X or The 30 Day Shred, which I have heard good things about.

  6. Britt - Runnerbelle on December 21, 2009 at 8:40 am

    What great gifts!!

I definitely want to try that DVD now, sounds awesome!

  7. cyn on December 21, 2009 at 8:47 am

I adore workout dvds! It is much easier to motivate myself to workout at home rather than making the trip to the gym which will take a minimum of 30 min before I am even on my arc machine.

I posted last week the 3 dvds I wanted to do. 2 were from Petra Kolber (my all time favorite home workout instructor) and one was from Tracey Staehle. My favorites are the step aerobic dvds with Petra Kolber and Gin Miller. As long as there is good music and the instructor isn’t annoying I am usualy content to rotate among my collection. As my fitness increases I gravitate toward the CIA (Creative Instructor Aerobics) dvds which usually have really fun/complex coreography.

thank you so much for the yoga review. i’m going to go order it now ~ it sounds like a great mix of yoga and various other toning exercises.

    have a great monday!!

  9. julie on December 21, 2009 at 9:12 am

oh wow that dvd sounds great! i like the idea of being able to do it in silence too 🙂

i’m not such a hot at home dvd worker because i just can’t motivate myself to workout inside my house! bad habit that is hould tryyyyy and get out of 🙂

    enjoy your day girly!

I rely on workout DVDs. Love the P90X workouts (but huge time commitment if you do the full 90 days), Winsor, Cathe Friedrich, Crunch and Shiva Rea. I’m not a fan of Stott Pilates but many pilates instructors have told me that she’s very precise and it’s the best pilates DVDs out there (yawn!).

  11. Janna (Just Flourishing) on December 21, 2009 at 9:19 am

That DVD sounds so good. I want to try i! I used to love DVD’s but since moving to manhattan I have NO ROOM in my tiny apartment do do anything. Boo!

  12. Danielle (Coffee Run) on December 21, 2009 at 9:22 am

I asked santa for some yoga DVDs, maybe I should suggest this one. I like that she has a good personality- I’ve done yoga where the instructor is super serious and it’s not as fun

  15. Stasa @ Simply Living on December 21, 2009 at 9:49 am

I’ve been using lots of DVDs lately since a gym membership isn’t in the budget. Right now I’m using Jillian Michael’s DVDs and they kick my butt. I always felt that I couldn’t get a good-enough workout at home but these DVDs are great.
What a nice gift from your client!

  16. Katie on December 21, 2009 at 9:52 am

    Such a nice gift!

I love P90X and Insanity. I was actually looking for new workout dvds too!

    Happy New Week,

Yoga Zone has a Power Yoga DVD that’s kinda old, but GREAT. You hold each pose for several breaths and work each side of the body for a total workout.

  19. Anne @ the doctor takes a wife on December 21, 2009 at 10:44 am

I’m obsessed with all things Jillian Michael’s. Her dvds kick my butt, every single time.

With all the hype about Zumba, I’m seriously going to have to check it out!!

  20. K on December 21, 2009 at 10:46 am

That grilled meal looks phenomenal! What sweet gifts from your clients!! Glad you enjoyed the DVD – sounds like a good one!

  21. Brigid on December 21, 2009 at 10:57 am

I like Winsor Pilates, too. I’m not experienced with Pilates outside of the DVDs, but man, they work you good! I may have to try Zumba. I’ve been looking for a dance-esque workout I can do at home.

  22. elena on December 21, 2009 at 11:11 am

I am not big on DVD workouts–I learned quite a bit from my power yoga instructor and since have been doing my workouts in the comfort of my home. I look for a muscle challange. Once in a while I pop in Kristin McGee Power Yoga DVD, which is good occasinally. Maybe I should try Yogalosophy and see if the two can compliment each other.

  23. Katie O. @ Fit to Wed on December 21, 2009 at 11:24 am

That dvd sounds amazing- thanks for the review! It’s definitely going on my list of things to purchase. When I can’t make it to the gym or go for a run outside, I usually pop in Jillian Michaels’ No More Trouble Zones dvd. I’m also a big fan of the yogadownload.com workouts.

  24. Paige (Running Around Normal) on December 21, 2009 at 11:41 am

How nice of that client to get you that gift basket! You must have such an impact on your clients for them to show their appreciation so nicely 🙂
Glad you liked the Yoga DVD!

  25. Sarah on December 21, 2009 at 11:52 am

my favorite way to exercise is run but i live in chicago so from about nov to march that isn’t such a great option. i can’t really afford a gym so i like dvds a workout option. i just borrowed my boyfriend’s P90X dvds and i haven’t been this sore in a long time so i think that means they are working:).

  26. Nicci@NiftyEats on December 21, 2009 at 11:59 am

I feel bad when my guy runs with me too. He is taller and he takes off,but I don’t mind. I’d rather not slow him down, unless to chat. lol

  27. Laura J. on December 21, 2009 at 12:03 pm

I wonder if it’s too late to add that DVD to my christmas list? 😉 I don’t really use workout DVD’s too much, b/c I have 2 lil kiddies and I rarely can get thru one without a hundred interruptions. But mostly, there are too many distractions at home. I do have a few that I like to use if on the rare occasion my boys are taking naps at the same time. Anything by Ellen Barrett (a lot of pilates/yoga infusion stuff and Jillian Michaels.

I never really do videos, largely b/c my apartment in NYC is miiini and doesn’t really hvae space for a lot of yoga moves! But I’d love to use it when I’m at my parents’ house. Jennifer Anniston seriously has the best bod ever, so I trust her methods!! 😉

  34. Alicia on December 21, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Thanks for the review. Such awesome clients! I love when my clients gift me with hand made cards (I freelance teach horseback riding lessons as my “fun” job and have a lot of kids as clients, but adults as well). I got one this weekend, sooo cute!

I think Jennifer has a rockin bod too, I’ll have to look into this video. Right now I’m hooked on Shred and Jillian Michaels. I don’t have a gym membership so I live by workout dvd’s!

    Hey Gina!

    You’re such a loveboat. I just adore your posts. The Mandy Ingber DVD looks like a great gift. I’m sold on anything Jennifer Aniston does! [;

My favorite DVD is Physique 57’s 57 minute total body workout. It is the most challenging workout I have ever done. It has worked my body all over in ways I NEVER thought were possible. I always feel so STRONG and EMPOWERED when I’m done. You would love it. [:

30 minutes?? not too long at all!

  44. Janeen on December 21, 2009 at 9:44 pm

I agree about Jennifer Aniston! She has the best celebrity body!!! So would that DVD by Mandy Ingber be good for beginners? I’ve done yoga maybe 3 or 4 times but you talk about it all the time and I really want to get into it! If not… do you recommend and DVDs for beginners? Thanks! Love reading your blog!!!

yes, it would be totally feasible for beginners.. she explains everything very well
