Cake Fail
Hey everyone! Happy Fashion Friday! (Iโll be back this afternoon with this weekโs style pick)
Last night, I set out to make Tres Leches.
I felt like it had to be extra amazing because Iโve have had about a thousand tres leches cake bites in my life.
The batter came out like a dreamโฆ
Until it started baking and I realized that I forgot the vanillaโฆ.
and figured maybe by drizzling the glaze into the cake that it would make up for it.
I pulled the cake out of the oven
and it was a beautiful golden brown:
And then I discovered that I used a pan that was way too big and said cake about about an inch and a half thick.
It was the best night of these puppiesโ lives:
They each had about 3 puppy bites, the pilot had a serving the size of my torso, and I cut off and munched some of the crunchy end pieces.
Cake fail.
One thing that wasnโt a fail?
I Fitnessista-fied the Neelyโs coleslaw recipe that I made for the squadron BBQ– this one is mayo-free and was pretty face-rocking.
This morning began with a beautiful 60-minute Power Yoga #1 podcast from YogaDownload.com.
(You can still get this yoga mat *here* for 15% off with coupon: YogaGina)
The Power Yoga #1 60-min flow is one of my faves because it includes dancer and crowโmy two favorite poses ๐
Bfast was a semi-repeat of yesterday:
B-fast cookie dough cereal with blueberries ๐ Iโm in lurve.
Well Iโm off to get the rest of the ingredients for tomorrowโs massive dinner party and then re-make a cake ๐
Any epic cooking fails lately??
Have a lovely day and Iโll see ya later with a Fashion Friday post!
xoxo,
Gina
Something to think:
โA woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.โ -Eleanor Roosevelt
You never know how strong you are, until you need to be ๐
My most recent baking fail was when I tried to make pancakes from scratch– I used baking SODA instead of baking POWDER, and then proceed to cook ALL the pancake batter before tasting it! When I took my first bite, it tasted like PURE BAKING SODA!! So gross…
That coleslaw looks delicious? What changes did you make to the original recipe??
i used goat milk yogurt instead of mayo and stevia instead of sugar ๐
Haha I love that quote. How true. ๐
I have baking failures all the time! One time I tried to make a muffin recipe more healthy and they turned out rock solid and tasteless!
Hey Gina…I have a question non related to your post about about low calorie drink options when going out. I am not a huge drinker, but when my boyfriend and I go out with friends, I want to avoid the social akwardness or not ordering anything and looking odd. I see that when you go out, you order a club soda (0 cal) with a splash of cranberry? Is there anything else you can suggest???
Thanks ๐
PS: please respond to my email if possible!! Thanks
re-send your email– my inbox is a disaster ๐
you could get a vodka with diet soda, vodka tonic or wine spritzer
I tried to make a flag cake on the 4th, but we had no round cake pans, so I had to use glass pie pans for 2 layers. Then I forgot to add the food coloring to one of the cakes, and had to take it out 8 minutes into baking and mix the dye in. Then I used a springform cake pan for one of the layers, and accidentally hit the release button when the batter was still in the pan – cake batter spilled everywhere! Then all the cakes were WAY too thick, so they all overcooked and stuck to the pans.
Fail!
At least the Pilot had a chance to get a preview of the cake. Even if you think you failed. ๐
One time, I tried to make a Jack Daniels steak…I followed the directions to a T, but somehow, like, none of the whiskey cooked off and it was inedible. My boyfriend thought it was hilarious.
The cake looked good, even if it wasn’t perfect!
Sounds like it was still delicious if the pilot ate a torso-sized piece ๐ I made breakfast for my office recently and forgot the cooking spray on a pan of oatmeal bars, so othey all stuck. I was sad, but I just crumbled it up in yogurt, so it all worked out.
I love that quote, so true! That coleslaw looks good, I don’t like mayo so a mayo free coleslaw sounds awesome!
Ahh, I don’t see why that was a *cake fail*, just an excuse to make another one! ๐
Your dinner party sounds amazing, I’m sure it will be flawless, the menu looks great and you always do such a great job with them!
Oh dear…but i reckon for every cake success in the world, there are about 100 cake fails;) xx
Haha you should have seen the ugliness that was the sweet potato gnocchi I attempted a few weeks ago. Note to self: do not attempt to make pasta on a 100-degree day EVER
A couple of months ago I made a high protein, low fat banana bread that was dry as sand. Epic fail! LOL Guess it needed SOME fat ๐
that’s like, the best fail ever! free cake! i don’t even cook enough for there to be fails but i’ve made some pretty funky stir-fries in my day, and those are supposed to be impossible to mess up!
thats too bad, oh well it happens to the best of us!
I tried making some kind of curry soup once, and it contained orange juice, it was nasty, and i would say a fail even though the recipe was followed correctly. And also i tried baking bread in the slow-cooker, with a recipe from a book i have. Total fail, it was nasty and hard.
My biggest epic cooking fail was when I tried to make vegan, gluten-free chocolate chip cookies from the Babycakes cookbook. Idiot here (raises hand) forgot to put in the baking soda, without which NOTHING rises. The cookies melted together and I ended up with three baking sheets of giant cookie. I cut them into squares, they tasted good even if they were missing the fluffiness baking soda gives.
Hey Gina, thanks for the info re: low cal drinks…my email is kim_babala@yahoo.ca
Thanks ๐
will you re-send the email you sent??
Aww, I love the quote you put in at the end! I’m glad the cake ended up turning out. Good job!
Oh man. Sorry to hear that… I can sympathize, I am soooo not a baker. But your macaroons and other creations always come out looking so good i’m afraid the drool will short out my keyboard!
My husband doesn’t consider the break n’ bake cookies to be homemade…i’m like okay then. Just pretend. ๐
Love the pic of Bella and Viesa…. so precious… so angelic in their waiting-for-a-snack posture. Ahhh, I know it well!!!!
