Preg Fashion
Iโve been having a bit of a fashion dilemma lately.
My bump looks more like I ate a foot-long (on NON gluten-free bread haha) and maybe a few donuts. People may wonder if there might be a baby in there, but it definitely isnโt to the point where itโs obvious.
In this in betweener limbo phase, Iโve been relying on dresses:
(lots
and lots
and lots of dresses)
and flowy, or Empire-waist shirts.
A recent purchase is courtesy of Meghann and Emily, who both have these athletic tanks from Target:
Emily is with jellybean (actually itโs the size of a papaya right now!) and Meghann is non-pregger and the tank looks equally amazing on both of them.
I just donโt feel as comfortable in my more form-fitting clothes right now (especially my lululemon Cool Racerbacks and Power Y tanks that I wear almost everyday to work), and am so glad I found this book for pregnancy style tips:
I was browsing through it whilst eating an entire chocolate bar in Vosges in Las Vegas, and as soon as we got back to the hotel, I downloaded it on my Kindle.
INCREDIBLE advice on how to dress up your bump in all different phases of pregnancy. Itโs written in a fun and sassy demeanor, has fun pictures and Iโve been enjoying (and appreciating!) the tips so much.
Regarding my limbo phase, the book suggests sticking to baggier and loose-fitting options until my bump is 100% obvious โthey say around 19 weeks but the rate Iโm going it may be sooner ๐
What are your tips for dressing during pregnancy, especially during the beginning of the second trimester?
Hereโs what Iโve got so far:
-Buy classic clothes that youโll be able to wear again later. The dresses have been key because all of my recent dress purchases will allow me to grow and still be in style next year
-Splurge a little on accessories. You donโt need to worry about amazing jewelry (necklaces, bangles, cuffs, earrings) or purses not fitting ๐
-If you feel great, you look great. Iโm focusing on clothes that make me feel good โinstead of uncomfortable- and rolling from there.
[Confession: I havenโt worn a swimsuit since my belly started poking out a little.]
Off to work- see ya later today with a lasagna recipe ๐
xoxo

Great post! I too have noticed that until I’m 100% showing (and I’m at 16 weeks now) I’m not buying anything maternity. But, alas this has led to some poor outfit choices due to lack of selection. I think I’m in denial and just need to bit the bullet! ๐
I did the exact same thing when I was pregnant. It felt like forever until I was 100% showing, though (I seriously think it was like in the 6th month!). I couldn’t wait to start wearing maternity clothes! I remember asking my husband if I looked pregnant or just fatter, & he got this deer in the headlights look… uh oh!
hahah that’s what the pilot does too!! he doesn’t know what to say
I live in Toronto and was lucky that I was in my 2nd/3rd trimester when it was warmer here so I could get away with wearing leggings, tunic tops and dresses throughout most of the whole pregnancy. I didn’t want to spend a lot on maternity clothes and was so happy to make use of clothes I already had. For the third trimester (and cooler temps) I bought 2 pair of pants and 2 maternity tops and tried to wear my tops with spandex in them:)! I have noticed that some of my regular clothes that I wore in my 2nd/3rd trimester are now stretched out:)!!!
Even though I am not pregnant, those are some great tips to remember! I think you look very fashionable and definitely can’t tell one bit that you are pregnant in the dresses. But like Emily said, once she started showing and wearing real nice fitting maternity clothes it made a world of difference in how she felt.
The second trimester is kind of awkward because you’re neither here nor there. I ended up buying dresses that were empire-waisted in my regular pre-pregnancy size. That way I could even wear them after the baby. My advice is to buy some cute clothes. It does wonders for your self-image which can sometimes take a hit. You do not have to spend a lot of money on maternity wear. Stores like Old Navy and H&M have surprisingly cute maternity wear.
love them all =) so cute~ Where is the top/dress from that you are wearing with the camera in the photo pic?? So cute!
it’s a maxi dress from h&m
Seriously love that top! Rock it girl! And i always pregos look super beautiful in bikinis. Show off the bump with pride
I love-love-love the purple dress with the pockets! Where can I find that?
ps – I LOVE your site too! I’ve been trying to do the Summer Shape Up, but my hectic work schedule has put me a little behind ๐
I feel ya on the complications of preggo fashion. I am 26 weeks now (no doubt about a bun in the oven at this point) and still find it hard to dress in a cute way. I too wear a lot of dresses. FYI – I found the best maternity shorts from Old Navy online that I pair with much cuter regular shirts – just bought in bigger sizes. Old Navy is super affordable since I didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg on maternity clothes.
Sigh – I miss Tucson (UA alum) and am super jealous that you guys are stationed there! We are Army and never bound to be back in AZ until retirement ๐
