Half marathon news + a Garmin giveaway-ENDED
Thank you so much for those of you who entered the giveaway! It has ended as of 4/5 12:48am.
HUGE congrats to the lucky winner, Morgan, who said:
I love 10Ks too! Just enough to get the endorphins going, but not too much that your legs are completely screaming the next day. (Just loudly complaining.) |
Stay tuned for more giveaways in the near future <3 xoxo

For a while there, I was doing ok with the half marathon distance. I was running consistently, even pushing the jogging stroller for a few long runs, feeling great, wanted to keep running/racing, and then the cold weather hit. You might have remembered the Tucson snow (!) and nothing about that made me want to run outside.
(I guess if you really want it and live in a freezing climate, you just suck it up and do it, but I guess I didnโt want it that badly.)
Since then, I havenโt had much motivation. Iโve gone back to my nighttime workout ways, and have been doing HIIT intervals indoors even though the weather has been so beautiful. I need to enjoy it before itโs back to 6am training run time.
Yup. โTraining run.โ
Iโm running another half marathon, but hereโs the kicker: Iโm actually going to train for it.
[Scared bird face. Youโre welcome, haha.]
For the past two races, my training was really sporadic (some times I went a few weeks in between running at all) and even with the fact that I felt ready, the races were rough, and I didnโt run as well as Iโd anticipated. This time, Iโm ready to be more consistent and emphasize strength training. At that time, I wasnโt consistent with strength training, which likely had a negative impact on my runs.
The race deets:
Iโll be running the Womenโs Running Series Half Marathon in Tempe/Scottsdale in November.
Use the discount code โFITAZGINAโ to get $10 off your registration until November 3 if youโd like to run with me!
Hereโs my plan:
-one long run a week (anything more than that, and I could overtrain with my teaching schedule) building on mileage (Sunday or Monday)
-one short run each week (Tuesday or Thursday)
-consistent strength training. I aim for 3 sessions each week, even though, realistically, Iโm happy if I get two
For my training, Iโll also be using my Garmin Forerunner 10 to track distance. I love my Forerunner so much -super light and compact compared to the 305- and was so stoked when Garmin asked if Iโd like to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive the new Forerunner 10 in the just-released gorgeous purple color!
You have two ways to enter:
1) Leave a comment and tell me your favorite running distance. I love 10ks but feel like there are less and less of them lately. Non runners: whatโs your favorite outdoor workout?
2) Tweet, โI want to win a Garmin from @fitnessista #beamazing #lovemygarminโ and leave an extra comment to let me know you tweeted!
Iโll pick the winner tomorrow (4/4 at midnight EST).
Ready, set, go!
xoxo

Veteranโs Day half marathon recap
[Iโm running the womenโs half as part of a paid campaign with Fitfluential. I was pretty stoked to be offered the opportunity- it was a great kicker of motivation. As always, all opinions are my own.]
I would love to run a marathon at Disney World!
I like 5 miles. I run a 5 mile Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving each year and its a good distance to run fast without burning out because of distance but still long enough that you feel like you really exerted yourself.
my favorite distance is between a half-marathons and 15 milersโฆlong enough to not be a full out sprint (it takes me a good 5k to โwarm upโ haha!) but short enough that it does not require the time, training, and body pounding that a full marathon (or more) does.
I like 10k!! Iโm running my 2nd half marathon in may!!! Getting excited ๐
I love the 14-15k races. A manageable distance that leaves you feeling really accomplished but doesnโt require as much time in long training runs to prepare. Though I am currently trying to decide on another half marathon to start focusing my runs on. Always need a new fitness goal to keep motivated!
I am running my FIRST half in Chicago in May! Iโm so nervous! Iโd say I really enjoy 5ks-theyโre feasible races and have so many new and fun themes-color run, electric run, etc. Iโd LOVE a garmin watch as my directional skills (or lack thereof) are legendaryโฆand I do not have a running buddy for my long runs! Eep!
10K all the way!
My fav running distance is one 45 minute TV show, haha. I have an elliptical for inside workouts (I share your sentiment about running in freezing cold winters), although I am eagerly planning to run in the summer!
Iโm relatively new at running but I love 8ks and 10ks. Perfect distance to get going and feel accomplished !
I love running 3-5 miles! I plan on training for a half soon, and winning the Garmin would be perfect ๐
I also tweeted! @stephyhansen87
I tweeted about the giveaway! Hope Iโm still in time to enter! ๐
My favorite distance to run? Definitely 10 miles. I love it! But guess what? I just signed up for my first full marathonโฆand Iโm kinda like youโฆI never โtrain-train.โ Yikes! Iโll be thinking of you and your training too. ๐ Iโd LOVE to train with a Garmin; esp a purple one! Iโd love to use it and have always wanted one.
My favorite race/running distance would have to be 10k also. I love pushing past that โwallโ when running and getting to the point where you feel like you are running on air and enjoying every moment. I find that I need to get past the 4 mile distance or so to feel this way, so 10kโs would be my sweet spot! Good luck with your training and thanks for being such an inspiration! Just pinned the Burger Lounge veggie burger to make this weekend! ๐
I am not a long distance runner. I wasnโt a runner until about a year ago when I started doing 5kโs. Now that I feel I have mastered that distance. I would like to move on to a 10k to give myself something new to work towards.
