April 20: Brownie husband
Today I had to take a drug test for work. While the place was beyond sketchy, it actually wasnโt too bad because my bro was waiting in the lobby to be my breakfast date afterwards. After the tech took my sample, I had to wonder if the results would come back along with a flashing neon pregnancy sign. How awesome would that be?? If my boss called and said that they got my drug test back and everything was fineโbut congratulations, youโre pregnant? Amazeballs. A girl can daydream.
Some of my friends (not BFFs, but friends) ask how long the Pilot and I have been trying. There really isnโt a number. The bummer thing is that with his deployments and TDYs, weโve only been able to try for about 3 cycles during the past year. Every time I hear someone say โWe got pregnant on the first try! Just call me Fertile Myrtleโ, I want to punch them in the face. 90% of the time, my husband isnโt even aroundโฆ and for the past 7+ months, we havenโt been able to try at all.
We first decided to start trying for a family last summer. The Pilot has been begging for babies pretty much since the day I met him and when I told him I was FINALLY ready, wellโฆ Iโve never seen him so excited. [Heโs been teasing me about โplanting the dark seedโ for the past 3 years. What a creeper, haha.] The bummer was that we only had two cycles to try before heโd be leaving again.
I have a good feeling that the reason why it didnโt work out last summer was because the Pilot was about to leave, I had no idea where we were going to be stationed, and we had to pack up our stuff into the POD and move me to Orlando. It was an incredibly stressful time, full of unknown and โwhat ifโsโ- not really the best environment to bring a baby into. So chances are, my body kept me from getting pregnant until I was in a more stable place.
Since we werenโt able to try consecutively, it worried me that something may be wrong when we finally did get the chance to be together and try more than once in a row. Just in case, I started seeing a homeopathic doctor that my good friend recommended, who discovered I had hormone imbalances and hooked me up with a boatload of disgusting supplements to take (Iโll be doing a full post on that later). Iโve been taking my pills and potions, and have actually seen a dramatic change in my body and my cycles in the past 6 months. Hopefully it prepped the bun oven pretty well ๐
This afternoon, to fill the void and keep myself from reading more baby blogs, I baked some gluten-free brownies. I took about an hour to make them, since baking is so therapeutic, and saved myself a little batter in the bowl.
When I was small, my mom used to bake with me all the time. Iโm pretty sure she liked the batter as much as I did โweโd each lick a beater when we were done- but it was some of the best early memories I have as a child.
I hope I have a baking buddy in there ๐
I’m only on the second post here, but I love the way you’re writing these! Your voice seems so different here than on the main page. We get to see a new/different side of you here!
Also, I feel a bit like a creepy stalker lady but as my boyfriend and I are planning our future it’s nice to know what’s in store for us… He’s a Marine, so deployments and weekends away and lots of loneliness are par for the course around here too! Your blog has helped me deal with it all.
everything happens for a reason imagine if you did get pregnant and he got deployed?? you would go through it by yourself…no fun!! now he is here with you:) way fun!! Congrats!! babies are such blessings and i’m so happy for you!
Gina, I’ve been reading for awhile and these posts might be my favorite of all of yours. They seem so.. confessional, diary-like, so.. real. Some blogs can get very.. monotonous and robot-like (I think Caitlin at HTP wrote about this recently) and it’s so very refreshing to read blogs like yours since you obviously keep it very close and true to yourself. These posts in particular really speak to me – they make me want to be your real life friend! ๐ Can’t wait to read more.
you’re a sweetheart- thank you. i’m so glad you’re enjoying them ๐
I totally agree with Kara; I feel like I’m reading from your diary. It’s very refreshing. I kind of want to punch those “Fertile Myrtles” too. We’ve been trying for 6 consecutive months. It gets stressful when you *finally* decide that you are ready and it doesn’t happen right away. Oh well, practice makes perfect?
I agree with Kara too! These posts are amazing Gina….so heartfelt, real, and to the core with honesty. I really appreciate how honest you’re being in these posts and thank you for keeping it real with us, you’re awesome Gina ๐
I agree, these family posts are amazing! Thanks for allowing us into this part of your life Gina ๐
And I totally agree with Stephanie ๐ We have also been trying for 6 consecutive months and nothing is happening so far. Recently I friend of mine had this cute little baby and all I could though was ” How come she already has a baby and I donยดt?” Creepy but true. Is such a blessing to read these posts and truly know that I am not alone, that Iยดm not the only one strugling with getting pregnant and wanting it so bad that when it doesnยดt happen I feel like something is wrong with us. Well, thanks God I found your blog and the timing couldnยดt be better. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Gina I totally agree that your body “knew” that the time was not right when the Pilot was about to leave. And look at how things have worked out now that he is home. I feel like a fool but I just love reading these posts, although it makes me a bit sad because I know we are not ready to have a baby, although I so want to be ready.
These updates on your journey are adorable! I also love your ‘voice’ for these posts. I just started thinking about babies, but it’s such a strange time for me: turned thirty, recently got out of a three-year relationship, going back to school, etc. I’m worried about by the time I start a family that I might be much older and it will be hard to get pregnant. Ack! I’m a worrier though! But wanted to let you know that it’s great to hear your story – the ups and downs – and happy ending:)
I agree with what everyone has already said, your voice is soooo different here, in a good way. I almost feel like I am in your head (noncreeper status, promise). Since I am not close to marriage or a baby right now (which is 100%aok) it is so sweet to hear what someone else is going through. This was a great idea and I’m sure lil baby will LOVE being able see what you were feeling right at the beginning. Our bodies are SO AMAZING!
the posts are so sweet so far! I remember going through all the same things with my husband. My mom told me I should journal my whole pregnancy, but I didn’t listen haha mostly because it’s been a pretty rocky road and if my twinnies want a sibling, they better hope I forget most of the pregnancy ๐ I hope your pregnancy goes smoothly though! It goes by so quick! It feels like just yesterday I went to my husband with the positive pregnancy test and told him to tell me what it said because I didn’t think I was reading it right haha and I’m 27 weeks already!
I am really enjoying the posts too! I am interested to read what supplements your homeopathic doctor recmomended (I need to find one of those, haha) as I have hormone imbalances too. I’m going to go read on ๐
Here i am again commenting, i just love reading these posts…God really does have a plan for us…i remember being so upset not getting preggers when i really ‘thought’ i should have, but in the end it all worked out like it was suppose to.
I prob mentioned this already, but i went to acupuncture to deal w/my hormone inbalances and had to take DISGUSTING herbs, ick i can SO relate girl. But hey, it was all worth it right? ๐
I’d love to read about your “hormonal imbalance” I was diagnosed with polycistic ovarian syndrom a few years ago, its deffinately been a rough road.
UGH I TOTALLY want to punch those “fertile myrtle” types. Boo. SOOO happy for you!
But in all honesty Gina you seem like a ferile mertile to me! It only took you guys a few cycles right? That is amazing! Many women take a year or more of consecutive cycle trying and many go through years of fertility treatments. You are very blessed!
yes but without seeing my homeopath, i’m 99% sure it wouldn’t have happened so quickly.
Gina, as a long time reader (and perpetual creeper, this is my first comment!) I have to agree that these are by far my favorite posts of yours! So real, honest, as someone else said – like a diary. I’m so happy for you & the Pilot!!
I’m looking forward to the herbal supplments post as well. My husband and I are in the getting close to being ready stage right now and I’ve been doing what I can to prepare my body. But I’ve had this creeping suspicion that I have a hormonal imbalance but am still scared/don’t know how to take the first step in correcting it. I have a insurance blood work appointment tomorrow and am anxious to see what they test for. I love all your ‘Family’ posts so far and can’t wait to hear about your journey! Best wishes!
Hi Gina,
I can’t believe at the number of comments i’m leaving. more questions though! ๐
You said your friend recommended a homeopath…but what made you think in those lines?….what made you go to him/ her. What role do they play in planning?..pls educate us souls ๐
<3 I understand what you mean when someone says something about getting pregnant on the first try….I have PCOS and though technichally we only 'tried' twice and got pregnant both times…..it was a 2 year process of wondering whether or not it would ever really happen, having to take medication in order to function let alone ovulate?!? It makes it all worth it though! SO happy for you! I agree with the person on the comments here that said you sound different on this 'family' tab…..you already sound like a mommy! Also, I read your US post and you should think about voicing your feelings about the sonographer to the midwife or OB, they take those things seriously and there is no reason for someone to treat you that way!
Aww I hear ya, we tried to get pregnant for about a year before it finally worked. While my husband wasn’t gone, my periods were irregular and we just didn’t get lucky for a long time. I finally ditched the test-taking habit and 2 months later, whaddya know, it worked!
Definitely had some resentment towards all my friends that seemed to get pregnant without even trying, haha.
Going off the pill gave me the wonky periods, so we’ve already said, no more birth control until we have all the babies we want; even if they decide to be close together! That’ll be fun.
I have been following you for over 2 years now but have never really commented. Now I’ve commented 3x today! these family posts truly speak to me and I’m excited for them!!! Thanks for sharing, I know it’s a very personal and sometimes scary time ๐
๐
Love reading these posts!!!!!!!!!!
thank you friend ๐
Gina, you’ll be so grateful to have all these posts to look back on – I think it’s wonderful you’ve been journaling your journey.
Just wanted to say I could not agree more to this: โWe got pregnant on the first try! Just call me Fertile Myrtleโ, I want to punch them in the face…so been there!
And yes, dogs know there is a little one in there. They really do. ๐
These posts are wonderful! As a woman trying to be a mother, I agree with your irritation at the people declaring themselves “Fertile Myrtles.” A good friend just got pregnant “on accident” right after I told her we were trying to have a baby. It’s hard not to be irrationally angry at these things.
It’s a roller coaster of a process and I am so happy for you that you’re on the journey to motherhood!
I’m really enjoying reading your pregnancy posts! I feel you on the husband being gone while trying to get pregnant front. We’ve been trying six months and it’s a huge obstacle when you have a husband who travels (mine is a commercial pilot). There’s nothing more frustrating that looking at a positive OPK test and knowing your husband is off flying to Mexico! Anyway, I look forward to reading more about your pregnancy! Congratulations!
Hi Gina!
I’m been a lurker of your blog for quite some time but I had to come out of the woodwork to say CONGRATS on the bun in the oven! Being pregnant (and having babies) is THE BEST thing I’ve ever done (I have an almost 2 year old son and a 2 month old baby girl!)…the most amazing feeling in the world, and I’m so happy to hear your great news. ๐ I’ll be reading up on all the fun baby stuff!
April
P.S. You are inspiring me to get healthy! I’ve been focusing on trying to turn my family’s eating habits around and for all of us to get healthy! And I’m ready to get back into exercise! I work for a Naturopathic Doctor and I made myself an appointment with her, my boss, next week.
thank you!
thats fantastic- proud of you ๐
Gina, this is Coco, we met in POM tour. Since I read that you were pregnant, i stopped reading your blog because it was shocking to me to read someone else is pregnant while I really wanted to be too.
Now I am on 4-5 weeks, I am starting from the beginning of your journey and I’m sure I’ll learn and enjoy a lot from your posts! ๐
i am so excited for you! congratulations <3 keep me updated on how you're doing!
