{Family} How workouts have changed: end of third trimester

We’re down to the last haul. I think? I hope. It’s definitely hit the point where I’m convinced I’m going to be pregnant forever.

Pregnant reverse warrior

Thank you again for all of your wonderful comments on my last post. I really appreciate all of the kind words, sweet emails, virtual hugs and support. <3 It also made me feel less alone to hear very similar stories from all of you. Cheers to having awesome support systems and having the courage to reach out for help when/if we need it.

As far as workouts go, things have slowed down even more, to mostly walking, light weightlifting (BODYPUMP practice with light dumbbells, TRX), and maybe a modified Beachbody workout here or there. 38 weeks was my last week at barre, and I think from now on, I’ll probably just do my own thing here at home, unless I’m walking around the neighborhood or on the treadmill.

Walk at mission 2

Some of my favorite third trimester exercises:

Strength:

-Standing dumbbell work (biceps curls, overhead triceps extensions, upright rows, lateral raises,

-Bodyweight exercises: squats, lunges, step-ups (not too high of a platform, and taking it slowly), calf raises, barre leg work, hip raises

-Modified plank and pushups (on knees or at the wall)

-BODYPUMP with light dumbbells, chest (and triceps, if applicable) track at an incline

Cardio:

-Modified Beachbody workouts

-Frequent walking

Flexibility:

-Deep squats

-Tailor sitting

-Gentle cat/cow

Core:

-Squats!

-Planks (modify on knees or at the wall)

-Spinal balance

I definitely feel a heaviness since the baby dropped, and my waddle has even more swagger. Hopefully that means things are on the way. 🙂

xoxo

Fellow mama friends: what did you do for fitness throughout your pregnancy? Any tips on helping to get the ball rolling over here? I think I forgot to write about this in my update, but they have me down for a recommended induction last week because of the baby’s size. I declined it, and I know babies come when they’re ready. I’m just not sure how far past my due date they’ll let me go. Hopefully my acupuncturist will press the button tomorrow.

I cannot even imagine working out knowing that your baby could come any minute! I think I’d be so paranoid. I think it’s incredible you have remained this active throughout your entire pregnancy!

never have i ever been preggo (thus haven’t tried this myself) but have heard (from a source that i don’t recall, but def more sciencey than old-wives-taley) that some red raspberry leaf tea — brewed double-strong — can kick that uterine musculature into gear. worth a shot, i’d say! and in the meantime… stay strong, momma!!!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2015 at 10:33 pm

i’ve been drinking it for a couple of weeks.. not double-brewed though! happening

I had my membranes stripped a couple of days before my scheduled induction for a small baby. I started early labor and my induction was one dose of intravaginal prostaglandin. My SIL also had luck with membrane stripping. I’ve also heard of acupuncture working too- good luck!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2015 at 10:30 pm

amazing! they stripped my membranes on monday, but it didn’t work for me. :/ it worked when i was pregnant with liv, but i was already at 40 weeks. they might do it again this monday before inducing me to see if it works this time. fingers crossed!

Tomorrow I’ll be 41 weeks!! I was supposed to be induced last Wednesday but declined. Now I’m to be induced this Friday morning if this little lady of mine doesn’t hurry up! My doctor told me a few things to get things moving on their own but I’ve honestly been too tired to try any of them. I may tomorrow though because I’d love for this girl to make her entrance into the world on her own. Good luck to you!

i’ll be thinking about you tomorrow!!!

Oh you won’t be pregnant forever but I would probably feel the same. Keep walking. Things will happen as they’re meant to.

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2015 at 10:29 pm

i keep trying to remember that! she’ll come when she’s supposed to

I had my midwife just break my water at 41 weeks. I didn’t need anything else to get me going and was holding my baby girl 4 hours later. I was able to have her without any pain medication too. I think that is a great option for being induced. They Can always give you pitocin later if you are not progressing “fast enough! Good luck!

      amazing- good to know!!

You look great!!! I was at an acupuncture appointment yesterday talking to another pregnant mama and she said that she was a day overdue, went to acupuncture and 4 hours later, labor started. The end is near.

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2015 at 10:28 pm

no way!! i went today and so far nothing.. so we shall see

I can’t recommend swimming enough! I had meant to go swimming my entire pregnancy and finally did it at 39 weeks. It felt amazing to swim laps especially because I was at the point where everything feels awkward. The only downside is coming out of the pool and feeling gravity take over again only got to do it once though because I went into labor a few hours later!!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2015 at 10:27 pm

wow, that’s good to know!! if the ocean wasn’t so cold, i’d be all over that… but i’m a giant chicken haha

  11. Julie on October 15, 2015 at 9:43 am

LOVE the sun warrior pic! That’s awesome! Back when I was pregnant (my daughter turns 16 next month!!!), I was an avid Jazzerciser, & I was able to do it throughout my pregnancy (even high impact). I had to buy a belly belt to minimize the watermelon bounce, but I went to class the night before she was born. (I was induced, & it was nbd so try not to worry if that’s the route you end up having to take. I think pitocin gets a bad rap – I didn’t have intense pains at all; it was all very gradual & controlled.) Best of luck! I look every day to see whether there’s a new post or if you’re M.I.A. 😉

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2015 at 10:24 pm

that’s good to hear! i’ve read that it makes the contractions unbearable so you have to get an epidural
thank you for the sweet wishes <3 xoxo

      • Michaela on October 16, 2015 at 7:32 am

I was induced with Pitocin for my son, then with Cytotec for my daughter. Both labors were pain med-free and I don’t consider myself nearly as headstrong as you! Contractions were painful following the Pitocin, but then what do we expect when it comes to natural childbirth? 😉 Every labor is so unique, so you can only take other people’s experiences with a grain of salt. Do what feels right to you and remember that a medical induction doesn’t have to foil the rest of your birth plan. Breathe through the pain and don’t fight it (just this principle alone made a world of difference between my second labor compared to my first). Sending lots of positive thoughts your way!

wow, that’s great to hear! thank you <3

Idk if you have Skipolini’s pizza near you, but my friend who lives in northern CA SWORE that their prego pizza got things going for her. I think it’s got like 5 different kinds of meat on it though. Love your pic at the top of the post, it looks like it should be in a yoga magazine 🙂

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2015 at 10:22 pm

i haven’t even heard of this!! i need to find some preg pizza 🙂
      thank you <3

I’m 34+4, and I’ve tried to keep up my fitness through the whole pregnancy. I had to start slowing down in the last few weeks, as I started having Braxtons during my ‘high’ (or not) intensity workouts on the elliptical. Now I’m doing the stationary bike and a lot of walking! Also, thank you for talking about PPD so openly. I’ve dealt with depression and anxiety long before i became pregnant, and it was one of the first things I brought up with my midwife because a healthy and happy pregnancy were so important to me. You’re doing yourself a great favor by having such a good support system and going into it with a plan. Good luck with little miss #2, I check your site every day hoping to see a post about you heading to the hospital!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2015 at 10:21 pm

thank you so much! congratulations to you!!! happy to hear you’re taking similar steps to take care of yourself <3 lots of love to you and that beeb

I had our baby girl 4 weeks ago today. My doc said she would let me go one week past my due date then we would have to induce. Baby came on her own 4 days late. So, no need for you to worry yet! I know I was so incredibly happy to not have to be induced. I was dreading that big time! My delivery was smooth and easy. I hope yours is to. Best of luck to you!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2015 at 10:19 pm

ok, that’s good to hear! i’m just a little concerned because they had me down for a recommended induction a week ago, which i declined, so i’m not sure how far they’ll let me go. i find out on monday.
happy to hear everything went well for you!! <3

Pizza with spicy sausage? Maybe it’s just an old wive’s tale, but it worked for me!

And of course, there’s that other option… with your hubby 😉

    • Fitnessista on October 16, 2015 at 10:00 am

      hahah! we’re on it 😉

  18. Brianne Markey on October 16, 2015 at 6:23 am

My pre-natal yoga instructor had taught us curb walking. Are you familiar? It really worked with my first, went into labor on my due date. you hold on to your partner and walk with one leg on the curb and one in the street and then turn around and do it on the other side. It got the ball moving and then we continued to do it while I was laboring to speed things up. Good luck!!

    • Fitnessista on October 16, 2015 at 9:59 am

ohhh maybe i’ll try that today!! thank you!

  19. Laura B @ FitMamaLove on October 19, 2015 at 12:35 pm

I tried EVERYTHING to get my baby girl to come on her own, but she decided not to, so I have no tips. I held out until 42 weeks and then had to be induced. She was a stubborn one and still is at almost 3!
