Baby K’tan giveaway

It’s been quite a day over here.

Liv hasn’t had a single long nap –I’m scared for what tonight will be like because when she naps well, she sleeps well and vise versa- she’s on outfit change #4 and I’m on #3. We’re still trying to get her to have one long nap in the pack n’ play, and while Tom can get her to fall asleep on her own, I fail miserably. He puts her in the pack n’ play swaddled, stares at her until she starts to close her eyes and walks away. I do the same and when I walk away, she screams bloody murder. I’ll pick her up, pat her and “shhhhh,” put her back down and she wails. After two tries, she ends up in the Moby or Baby K’tan.

Since I didn’t know what types of baby carriers/wraps would work best for us, I researched like crazy and ended up buying the organic versions of the Moby, the Ergo and Baby K’tan. I haven’t used the Ergo with the infant insert yet –Tom loves it- but the Mody and K’Tan are staples.

carriers

I love them both, but think the design of the Baby K’Tan is much more user-friendly. Instead of being a gigantic piece of fabric that you have to tie and twist a certain way (I had to watch a few YouTube video how-tos), it consists of two large loops held together by a small loop + a support wrap.

baby ktan

I also prefer the Baby K’Tan because it’s easy to put on in public. With the Moby, I’ll have to tie it before I leave the house for wherever we’re going, and if Liv is in the stroller or carseat, I just look like I’m wearing some kind of ninja wrap. I can put the Baby K’Tan in the diaper bag to wear or remove easily. The stroller is more functional, but for quick shopping trips, friends’ houses and parties, the Baby K’Tan or Moby work extremely well.

When a Baby K’tan representative saw this photo of Liv snoozing in her favorite spot,

ktan

he kindly offered to do a giveaway for a lucky reader. The winner can pick any Baby K’tan carrier in a fabric/color of their choice- it also makes an awesome gift for an expectant friend.

Two ways to enter:

1. Leave a comment with a funny story about when you were a baby (or about your kiddos)

2. Tweet “I want to win @babyktan from @fitnessista “

The lucky winner will be chosen tomorrow (Tuesday, 3/13) night at midnight EST.

The only way I could get my oldest daughter to sleep as a baby was to wear her in a sling and vacuum at the same time. Whatever works!

I would LOVE to win this! I actually was going to order one after you posted about it! I didn’t use my moby enough because of how annoying {and hot} it got with all that fabric! I want a Baby K’tan

Funny story: I have a million. I’ll give you this one though. I guess I was probably like 1 1/2 and my older cousin was playing with me. Where my mom and aunt were, I’d love to know. Anyway, he got into my moms makeup bag and dumped and ENTIRE bottle of liquid foundation all over my head and smeared it all over my. There are pictures. From that point on all we did was get into mischief. On my 4th birthday something involving trying to fit a mattress out the bedroom window was involved.

So I found a tooth on the carpet in my classroom ( grade 2). I asked whose it was. Nobody remembered losing a tooth!! To this day it remain the mysterious random tooth!

I’d love to try that wrap. I could never get the ergo on by myself and though we also had a baby bjorn, I rarely used it. Jack was the same way with my husband when he was tiny. For Adam, he’d go down for a nap so easily but for me it was a much different stories. I think babies learn how to play their mamas right from the start.

I would like the K’Tan for a single momma-to-be friend! One of my shining moments as a kiddo was from my grandparent’s house around the holidays-my big extended family would be gathered in the living room in the evenings. I was a bit (bit?) of a ham, and after my bath would run down the hallway into the doorway of the living room, dramatically whip off my towel, and do a little song and dance number I called “shakaboo-boo baby”, bare-butt nekkid. I’m sure it was very cute, though my family has not asked for a repeat performance in recent years. 😉

  6. Katie on March 12, 2012 at 10:46 pm

i used to take my next door neighbor out into the sunshine and park her right in the sun so she was forced to close her eyes and take a nap 🙂 i just wanted to hold a sleeping, snuggly babe!

  7. Jenny @ simply be me on March 12, 2012 at 10:47 pm

I have a Moby but love the look and ease of this wrap! When I was a little girl I used to say “your feelings hurt me” when I was sad about something 🙂

With an almost 8 year old and a 2 month old, we have some comical moments in our household. My favorites right now are how grossed out my oldest boy got when he discovered that he too was breast feed. Poor boy. I may have ruined him for the rest of his 8th year (but I think he will recover!)

Perfect timing on your post. My 2 month old lives in his Moby, but it is getting to be way too hot now that spring has arrived.

  9. Helen on March 12, 2012 at 10:50 pm

The k’tan carrier would be perfect as we are expecting our first little one this summer! No real funny stories about kiddos yet but the one I am growing is making me do funny things like lift a gallon jar of pickle juice to my mouth and trying to sneak a few gulps before the husband caught me. I wasn’t smooth enough and got caught with my mouth on the pickle jar.

  10. britt on March 12, 2012 at 10:52 pm

i would LOVE to win one of these! my little guys most recent funny moment: we were listening to the “small potatoes” song and he bends over, almost in a downward dog position, and starts shaking his booty to the music. then he stood up and started clapping. he was 17 months. so cute!!

the only way we could get my little guy to sleep through the night was have my husband get up with him through the night for a few weeks. he associated me with snuggles and nursing him to sleep. we didn’t do this until he was a year old because i didn’t want to deny him milk since i wasn’t sure how much he got during the day since i was still nursing. once he was drinking cow’s milk and i knew he couldn’t be hungry, i had no problem cutting him off. i’m sure that’s why she’s reacting that way with you. most of the time i enjoyed being that person for him but sometimes, when he was waking every 2 hours or so at 9 months old, i wanted to cry.

  11. Jen on March 12, 2012 at 10:53 pm

My dad said when I was little I would walk around with my Barbie saying I want boobies like Barbie. I hate to say I got more then what barbies had lol!

I would love to win this baby K’tan, and promise to put it to some seriously good use! I am going on a 6 week long medical mission trip to Namwianga, Zambia, and will be providing speech and swallowing therapy to orphans birth-2 years of age. In the orphanage, there are approximately 95 babies and only 5 “aunties” to care for them. Most of them are usually underweight, underdeveloped (9 month olds that can’t sit up), many are infected with AIDS (which causes major feeding difficulties), and I won’t even go into their development of speech and language, or shall I say… lack of. Our group of 13, will be spending as much time as possible with these babies to help them develop as much as possible in a 6 week window. Also, we will be working with the Aunties to teach them new ways to help these babies. If I had a baby K’tan, then I would be able to carry around these sweet babies all day!

    For my funny childhood story…
My parents were brave and took the 3 of us girls to a restaurant for dinner, and I felt the need to tell our waitress “Hey my dad toots a lot.” lol That was one of the ones I still get teased about. However my family wont ever let me live it down that I refused to wear clothes until I was 3!

  13. Sarah on March 12, 2012 at 10:55 pm

My baby is 4 months now – and he’s getting pretty good at moving around now. Last week I was holding him and had a Popsicle in the other hand. I turned my head to look at something the cat was getting into and when I turned back he had grabbed the top of my Popsicle and it was on its way to his mouth. He’s never had anything but milk – I said “Oh no!” and he burst out laughing. It was his first real laugh! So cute 🙂

Let’s see. This might be embarrassing to share on the internet but…Apparently I was quite excellent at going #2 as an infant. I’m the oldest, so my mom had a learning curve with me. Well one day, while changing my diaper in the living room, I, um, “exploded” as my mom puts it. And she had someone over cleaning the gutters who saw the whole thing. The man was laughing hysterically and said to my mom, who was covered in poop,: “I have 6 kids. I’ve seen it all.”

  15. Heather S on March 12, 2012 at 11:00 pm

My 10 week old loves to giggle everytime she’s on the changing table so even with no dirty diaper we do playtime there alot 🙂

  16. Ginna on March 12, 2012 at 11:03 pm

I have an ergo and moby now for our little one due in April but would love a ktan to throw in the mix! When I was little I had these red shorts that I wanted to wear every single day. My parents would even hide them from me but I would find them. Strong willed from day one! We have a feeling our little girl is going to be too :).

  17. Jessica on March 12, 2012 at 11:04 pm

Warning, some could consider this inappropriate:
From my 5 year old’s mouth “Mom, I know a new word. ‘tit'”.
Me “How did you learn that new word?”
“In school. We use Jolly Phonics to learn new words”. Hooray for Jolly Phonics.

  18. Ashley on March 12, 2012 at 11:04 pm

Oh I would love to win this! I’m expecting my first in October and have been reading like a mad woman about everything baby gear related.

My dad raced cars when I was little, and I always wanted to be out there helping him work on them. My mom had put me in a cute little white dress (she loved putting me in dresses – I’m sure you can see where this is going.) and dad was out in the shop, working away. She came out to see how things were going and found her little girl laying under the racecar with dad, wrench in hand, in that cute little white dress that was now covered in grease. Oops. 🙂

Love this giveaway! I’ve been wanting to try a wrap for my daughter but have been too overwhelmed with choices to find one.

Here’s my story, and funnily enough I just told it to my husband the other night for the first time.

My first day of kindergarten had come and I was super excited. My mother, of course, was sad her baby girl was taking this big step (a sentiment I can totally understand now!) So my mum, dad, and I are waiting at the bus stop for my first day, and as I see it coming down the street, my mum says that I turned to her, put my hands on my hips, and stated in a way that only a 5 year old can, “Mum, you’re not going to embarrass me and start crying, are you??” Needless to say she started laughing instead of crying, so maybe I helped her cope a little bit 🙂

When I was only 1 year old I broke my leg 🙁 My brother and I were rough housing and rolled down some stairs and he fell on top of my leg and it broke….Hmmm, I have never asked my parents what the heck they were thinking letting us play near stairs!!!
On a side note I am loving how the Baby K’tan looks, it seems like such a snuggly place for a little one !

  21. Jaime on March 12, 2012 at 11:09 pm

This is my favorite baby story:

When my son was almost 1 (that still counts as baby, right?), he couldn’t talk yet, but he knew some simple baby sign language. We had to go get our flu shots– I was a nervous wreck every time I had to take him to get his shots, and this time was no different. He always cried and screamed, and I’d end up breastfeeding for a half hour afterwards. This time, however, he got his shot in the leg and the nurses put a bright blue band-aid on it right away. To my shock and delight, Axel stared at the band-aid, looked up at the nurse, and signed “more”!

    • Sara on March 12, 2012 at 11:11 pm

      That is so cute!

  22. Sara on March 12, 2012 at 11:10 pm

I would love you to do a post on how to tie a moby. My sister has one and never uses it because she lost the booklet and we just can’t figure out how to tie it up in a way that seems safe and secure.

  23. Danielle on March 12, 2012 at 11:13 pm

My sister always picked on me growing up. I am the baby and when I was born, she was no longer the center of attention. One summer day, my parents were doing yard work while we played in the yard. The water hose was out and hooked up to the faucet on the side of the house. My sister dragged the hose over to where I was, stuck it in my diaper, and turned the water on.

My mother found me standing in the middle of the driveway soaked with my diaper around my ankles. Luckily I was too young to remember otherwise I’d have been mortified.

  24. Jody on March 12, 2012 at 11:14 pm

Pick me, Pick me! I just read your yoga post – I hear ya! I’m 6 1/2 months along now and my chaturanga was starting to draw sideways glances from other yoga class members 🙁 Can’t wait to get back in there!

I have a 3 year old who is very interested in his little brother’s arrival – somehow he’s figured out that the only way to get the baby out must be to ‘cut it out of me’ (think he overheard me discussing a c-section somewhere along the way?) Anyway, he’s always asking if the doctors will cut my tummy in a circle or a triangle to get his brother out – weird!

  25. Carly on March 12, 2012 at 11:15 pm

I can’t think of a story about me, but I can about my brother. He is the oldest, so my parents were both new at the job. My dad needed to make him a bottle, but didn’t want him to get dirty crawling on the floor….. so my dad set him on the counter and he rolled off! OOPS! He was fine, but a story we still make fun of my dad for!

  26. Laura on March 12, 2012 at 11:16 pm

What a great giveaway! I have a week-old baby girl and would love to try out this K’Tan carrier. As far as funny stories about our baby girl, Ada, so far we’ve just experienced the *very* loud bodily noises that happen in public at the most awkward moments. I still can’t help but laugh when she just lets one rip when we’re at church or checking out at the grocery store.

  27. Laura Rees on March 12, 2012 at 11:17 pm

I’m majorly scatter brained, so when my son was born I was scared to death I was going to leave his carrier (with him inside) on the curb (or on the roof of the car, or anywhere) and drive away. I’d compulsively turn around and check (probably 5 times a minute) to make sure he was still back there. He cried a lot, so on the rare occasions he was actually sleeping (and not making noise) I’d get scared he wasn’t in his carrier (he was still backward facing at the time), so I’d always pull over and get out to make sure he was still in there. I could never get anywhere on time! Having a new baby around can make you crazy!

  28. Laura on March 12, 2012 at 11:19 pm

My son *loved* his bottle (we adopted, so no breastfeeding). He would down a full bottle in under 2 minutes – we would have to pull (hard) the bottle out of his mouth to encourage him to pause and take a breath. Silly boy. Daughter could take an hour to down 2 oz.

I loved wearing the kids around as was great for bonding and easier than dealing with a stroller. Hoping to give this to my sister who is due this summer!

  29. Jenn on March 12, 2012 at 11:23 pm

I’m 23 weeks along and definitely in the market for a wrap!!!

One of my favorite stories is about when my sister was born – 23 below zero on Dec 23. I was 3 1/2, and insisted on being taken to the mall on Christmas Eve (a freezing nightmare) to tell Santa that she was here. I didn’t want him to miss her and not bring her a present.

  30. Ashley on March 12, 2012 at 11:23 pm

I’d love to win this! I’m due in May 🙂

Funny story about my little brother – words like ‘stupid’ and ‘shut up’ were considered curses when we were growing up. Once he was so angry at my older brother that he asked to say a curse, my parents allowed it figuring it would be something pretty benign, little did they know… lol, he threw a straight up F-bomb out there at the age of 3, still don’t quite know where he learned that one.

  31. Alex on March 12, 2012 at 11:25 pm

When I was one year old, we were flying back from Hawaii. I remember being fascinated with a man sitting in front of us. I was trying to play with him, throwing pencils at him, trying to get his attention. He wanted nothing to do with me. Later in life, once I could understand, my mom told me it was George Harrison (of The Beatles)!! She told me she was so embarrassed; she didn’t want him to think she was using her baby to talk to him or get his autograph haha

Thanks for this awesome giveaway! My sister just told me she is pregnant with her first. I couldn’t be more excited! If I win, I will definitely be giving this to her.

  32. AshleyC on March 12, 2012 at 11:29 pm

I have too many funny baby stories to list…We could go from the baby powder explosion in my son’s room, to the numerous diaper explosions…however,I can only imagine what it’s gonna be like when baby number 3 arrives in June! Ages 3 years, almost 2 and a newborn.. 🙂 EEK!!!

  33. Katherine on March 12, 2012 at 11:31 pm

I would love to give this a try – we use our Moby, but only at the house due to the whole looking like a ninja thing. My funny story about my 8 month old is about the day we brought her home from the hospital. My father in law had taken all out luggage (with all our extra baby clothes, etc) in his car back to our house. We were just waiting to sign something and we were on to be our way. She was all dressed in her going home outfit – so cute! We literally snapped one photo and promptly had our first (of many to come) complete diaper explosion. Needless to say, my little girl actually rode home from the hospital in a way too big baby blue kimono infant top (graciously given to us by a nurse), no pants with a hospital blanket (oh yea – the explosion went all over the beautiful sweet blanket we envisioned taking her home in). It was a great moment.

  34. jenny on March 12, 2012 at 11:33 pm

I don’t really know any funny stories of me when I was a baby, but I have plenty for my kiddos. One day my neighbor came over to chat (he was a lonely, elderly man). My neighbor and I were chatting away as my 18 month son was playing at my feet. About mid conversation I’m interrupted by the sound of grunting coming from in-between our feet. I look down just in time to see my son, who had taken his diaper off, deposit a load of poo right there on the sidewalk. I was so embarrassed, the old man however, found it quite humorous. It really made his day. Lol.

  35. Stephanie on March 12, 2012 at 11:35 pm

When my fiance was younger, around 2, he cried when they got rid of their old toilet and did not want the new one. My MIL tells me this story repeatedly because she says it means he will always be a good husband and never want to get rid of me. LOL

  36. Courtney on March 12, 2012 at 11:37 pm

First off I love all the information you post on your blog as I am expecting at the end of summer its so good to hear your experiences. Ok so funny story from when I was a kid…..my parents always had this rule that we had to at least try 3 bites of a food if we were going to say we didnt like it. Well one night at dinner my mom served us peas and while I wasn’t a super picky eater I couldn’t stand peas….she kept telling me to take 3 bites and I told her I was going to throw up and she told me I was being ridiculous and not 5 minutes later I threw up peas all over the table.

  37. Michelle on March 12, 2012 at 11:40 pm

I guess my parents took me on a trip when I was about 9 months old & I ended up eating dog food & oysters. Quite the palette 🙂

I was almost two when my little sitter was born. I was suddenly the middle child. One day my mom came into our bedroom and discovered the crib where victoria lay filled to the brim with all our stuffed animals. I either tried to bury her alive or thought she needed some toys 😉 hehe.

  39. Katie on March 12, 2012 at 11:42 pm

Funny baby story…..I mostly remember them from my little brother, since he’s 7 years younger than me! One time, he brought in the garden hose and turned it on in the kitchen sink to wash his trucks! Totally flooded the entire kitchen, foamy soap bubbles everywhere. Goes to show that crazy things can happen when they’re unsupervised for even a few minutes……….and to think I’ll have my own boy to watch out for in 3 months……I hope he doesn’t take after his uncle!

  40. Erin Faye on March 12, 2012 at 11:45 pm

    ooohhh I would love one!

My lovely older brother locked my grandma out of the house while she was babysitting us. It was the best half hour of our weekend, and the worst half hour of hers.

  41. Jill on March 12, 2012 at 11:47 pm

My younger brother’s name is Andrew, and for a good few months when we were younger I had him convinced his name was the “A” word and he was absolutely terrified to say his name. I was a mean child, lol, but we’re friends now.

  42. Tabitha on March 12, 2012 at 11:51 pm

Oh my goodness I would love to win this! We are a military family too, and flying home soon so everyone can meet our baby boy, he’ll be 7 weeks at the time and this would make the trip so much easier! Funny story…when I was little I used to make up songs when I had to do chores..and my families favorite was “my mommy makes me clean my rooooooom..I don’t want to clean my roooom”

  43. Jill on March 12, 2012 at 11:53 pm

When I was a baby I went through a phase where I would only sleep if I was sucking on both pinkies. Totally skipped the thumb and pacifier stage.

Due in July!! It would be awesome to win this.

  44. Jessica on March 12, 2012 at 11:56 pm

I would love the k’tan, because I have a black moby and I look like a jedi warrior when I wear it sans baby. However, I had someone come up to me one time with my empty moby, and comment on how cute my “scarf” was…then the more she examined me, the more confused she looked until I explained to her what it really was… 😛

  45. Darien on March 13, 2012 at 12:08 am

Oh, I would love to win for my bestie! (I’m anxious for a family, but hubby and I just aren’t quite there, and she is already expecting:)
My mom has the best baby story about my dad after I was born. Apparently, I never liked sleeping anywhere but my crib in my room. My dad would wander in there to check on me and somehow fall asleep UNDER my crib, which is where my mom would find him.
She also tells me that I would be playing and crawling and busy as can be, then just pass out wherever I was. (must run in the family!) I might have been playing under the bed or be partway under a sofa or crawling across the floor, and just *splat* night night!

  46. Aubrey Hansen on March 13, 2012 at 12:15 am

I would love to win this for many reasons! I love to read your blog, I was due a few weeks before you so I related with every post (durning and after pregnancy), I dealt with lefty producing more milk, nursing, sleepless nights and MANY more things. I also HATED my pump, my daughter was born 6 weeks early so my pump and I had to become fast friends while she spent her 2 weeks in the NICU. Thank you for being so open, it feels great to know I am not alone.
Tonight my husband was holding my daughter and she had some MAJOR gas, she started letting it out and he jumped like she was going to poop all over him. I died laughing because she was fully diapered and clothed, baby gas is ALWAYS funny especially when the rest of the room is silent. 🙂

I’m currently expecting… due July 9th with our first little girl! As a first time mom, I would love the Baby K’Tan to try out babywearing. I have heard great things about the K’Tan and would really like one. Since I don’t have any stories about my baby girl, here is one about me from when I was a little girl:

When I was 5 years old, my family got doughnuts for breakfast one Saturday morning. I started eating my doughnut and I said “my doughnut is bloody” then “crunch!” I said there is something crunchy in my doughnut! Instead of spitting out the crunchy part, I ate it! My family looked at me and my mom asked me to bring the doughnut to her so she could have a look at me and the doughnut. Sure enough while eating the doughnut, I lost and swallowed my first tooth! Looking back it was really funny that I swallowed my first tooth instead of spitting it out! 🙂

I also tweeted about the giveaway!

  48. Brittany @ L'épice de la vie on March 13, 2012 at 12:23 am

That looks so cool! I can’t wait until we start our family, but my goal is to get my body into the best shape possible before we start trying. I want to give my little one the best possible start!
I think my best baby story would be during one of my birthday parties, I stole a slice cake right off of my guest’s plate. I had finished my cake and apparently he wasn’t eating his fast enough. My family LOVES to joke about how I’ve always had a sweet tooth!

  49. Katheryn on March 13, 2012 at 12:26 am

With two lively kids I have loads of funny stories. A few months back my son decided to ask loudly about sex right in the middle of church. Yea, everyone heard. This same boy make signs and secretly hung them up around school last week. The signs advertised a Bring Your Pet to School Day.

I have a 10 day old baby boy. My mom had the brilliant idea of ideotapin our 1st diaper hanged at home. It only took my husband and I 18 minutes. Ha! Thank goodness we’ve learned quickly and can now do it with our eyes closed.
