Fave cold weather gear + a giveaway- ENDED

Welcome to Tucson, winter.

I have to say, I was a little bit excited when I pulled out my beloved purple Scuba hoodie this morning.

Hoodie

It felt so weird to easily zip it, instead of awkwardly trying to zip it over a large pregnant belly like last year, even though I do kinda miss the belly. I love the soft fabric, the cozy hood and the thumbholes, of course. While it never gets cold enough to warrant working out in a sweatshirt out here, it’s definitely one of my favorite cold weather pieces.

Also on the list: my new arm sleeves that I bought for the race a few weeks ago.

Race stuff

It’s a perfect way to keep warm, without having to commit to a long-sleeved shirt. You get too hot, you take the sleeves off and, in my case, stuff them in your shirt to give you some crazy-looking bumps.

I also love running tights, ear warming headbands and mittens when it’s time for outdoor workouts in the cold. As much as I love all of the extras, hoodies will always be my favorite! I adore so many different styles and brands.

My friends at Under Armour kindly offered to giveaway a fleece storm hoodie to a lucky Fitnessista reader, if you’re looking for an extra way to stay cozy during your workouts, or to and from the gym.

My favorite winter workout is hot yoga because I live in South Dakota and it is the only time I feel warm during the winter. =)

  2. Jessica@FitTalker on December 12, 2012 at 8:56 pm

I hate the cold, so anything indoors. Although I guess I do kind of like shoveling, that could be a workout, right?

I live in Ontario and I love running in the snow! There’s something that hurts so good about that burning in your lungs as you trek up and down the hills while trying not to sink into a snow pile or slide on the ice!

  5. Luvena Cervantes on December 12, 2012 at 9:00 pm

Heavy weights, HIIT and Plyo. Gotta get that heart bumping big time to work up a sweat during the winter.

  6. Jamie Escobar on December 12, 2012 at 9:00 pm

My favorite winter workout is (so lame) but we just got this treadmill at the gym and it has a “virtual run” where you can run through the alps, Maine and Italy…ALL IN ONE RUN! Boo Ya baby! (and…I subscribed to your channel a while ago! Love it!)

  7. AmyC on December 12, 2012 at 9:01 pm

I’m a wimp! We live in a very snowy place so any indoor spin class with the heat blasting is great!

  18. Emily on December 12, 2012 at 9:07 pm

Well I haven’t really needed cold weather gear since I moved to SoCal from Iowa last May, but when I did live in Iowa my favorite thing was my Under Armour tights! So warm!

  19. Hayley on December 12, 2012 at 9:07 pm

My winter workouts are all done indoors because I hate the cold! I do hot yoga to keep warm, and HIIT workouts.

My favorite cold weather workout is a good run – is that weird? I like running in the cold SO much better than in the heat, so I try to enjoy it while it lasts 🙂 Or a good BodyPump session – sure to get the blood flowing!

  28. Lizzy on December 12, 2012 at 9:10 pm

My favorite winter workout is basically the same workout I love all year round, Zumba! I also have tons of fun when I go skiing. I really need a new workout jacket though so this would be perfect:)

My favorite winter workout is probably still my favorite overall workout, a CrossFit hero WOD called “The Seven”:
    Seven rounds for time of:
    7 Handstand push-ups
    95 pound Thruster, 7 reps
    7 Knees to elbows
    185 pound Deadlift, 7 reps
    7 Burpees
    7 Kettlebell swings, 2 pood
    7 Pull-ups

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  33. Lola on December 12, 2012 at 9:16 pm

I love skiing down hills! want to try snowboarding someday:) For now there’s no snow here where I live, so I stick to JM, elliptical and TM, with some of your workouts as well:)

  34. China on December 12, 2012 at 9:16 pm

It’s boring, but in the winter, I like to walk/jog on my home treadmill where I can look out the window. Lame, but I like it. 🙂

  35. Elizabeth on December 12, 2012 at 9:16 pm

I just discovered body pump and I am loving it! I’m also training for a half marathon in march so of course running as well!

    Also, I’m a youtube subscriber. 🙂

  37. Brianna on December 12, 2012 at 9:17 pm

Downhill skiing! I love it, it’s the best winter workout! I oddly don’t mind running long miles in the snow either . . . I guess that’s what growing up in Upstate NY does to you!

  38. Vanessa on December 12, 2012 at 9:19 pm

My favorite winter workout is TRX class! I love it because I usually do it outside in the summer, but because it is so functional, I can easily take it inside and get the same great workout!! Plus, having a teacher to push you is a lot more motivating!!!

  39. Nicole on December 12, 2012 at 9:20 pm

I love running in long sleeved tech tees. It doesn’t get too cold in Texas but I love every chance I get to enjoy cooler weather running.

    I am also a subscriber 🙂

  41. Nikki on December 12, 2012 at 9:20 pm

Since it is cold, I am stuck doing my workouts inside during the winter season. One of my favorite winter workouts is doing a Jackie Warner DVD. She kicks my butt every time!!

  42. Jen on December 12, 2012 at 9:20 pm

I am so boring. I usually stick to the elliptical in the winter (I refuse to workout outdoors…I’m in Minnesota) I did jot down some workouts based on ideas from your workouts 🙂

  43. LeighAnn on December 12, 2012 at 9:20 pm

I just bought arm warmers this fall and love them. They were perfect to take on and off, and now that winter has hit Iowa they are a great layer underneath a jacket!
