Half marathon news + a Garmin giveaway-ENDED
Thank you so much for those of you who entered the giveaway! It has ended as of 4/5 12:48am.
HUGE congrats to the lucky winner, Morgan, who said:
I love 10Ks too! Just enough to get the endorphins going, but not too much that your legs are completely screaming the next day. (Just loudly complaining.) |
Stay tuned for more giveaways in the near future <3 xoxo

For a while there, I was doing ok with the half marathon distance. I was running consistently, even pushing the jogging stroller for a few long runs, feeling great, wanted to keep running/racing, and then the cold weather hit. You might have remembered the Tucson snow (!) and nothing about that made me want to run outside.
(I guess if you really want it and live in a freezing climate, you just suck it up and do it, but I guess I didn’t want it that badly.)
Since then, I haven’t had much motivation. I’ve gone back to my nighttime workout ways, and have been doing HIIT intervals indoors even though the weather has been so beautiful. I need to enjoy it before it’s back to 6am training run time.
Yup. “Training run.”
I’m running another half marathon, but here’s the kicker: I’m actually going to train for it.
[Scared bird face. You’re welcome, haha.]
For the past two races, my training was really sporadic (some times I went a few weeks in between running at all) and even with the fact that I felt ready, the races were rough, and I didn’t run as well as I’d anticipated. This time, I’m ready to be more consistent and emphasize strength training. At that time, I wasn’t consistent with strength training, which likely had a negative impact on my runs.
The race deets:
I’ll be running the Women’s Running Series Half Marathon in Tempe/Scottsdale in November.
Use the discount code “FITAZGINA” to get $10 off your registration until November 3 if you’d like to run with me!
Here’s my plan:
-one long run a week (anything more than that, and I could overtrain with my teaching schedule) building on mileage (Sunday or Monday)
-one short run each week (Tuesday or Thursday)
-consistent strength training. I aim for 3 sessions each week, even though, realistically, I’m happy if I get two
For my training, I’ll also be using my Garmin Forerunner 10 to track distance. I love my Forerunner so much -super light and compact compared to the 305- and was so stoked when Garmin asked if I’d like to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive the new Forerunner 10 in the just-released gorgeous purple color!
You have two ways to enter:
1) Leave a comment and tell me your favorite running distance. I love 10ks but feel like there are less and less of them lately. Non runners: what’s your favorite outdoor workout?
2) Tweet, “I want to win a Garmin from @fitnessista #beamazing #lovemygarmin” and leave an extra comment to let me know you tweeted!
I’ll pick the winner tomorrow (4/4 at midnight EST).
Ready, set, go!
xoxo

Veteran’s Day half marathon recap
[I’m running the women’s half as part of a paid campaign with Fitfluential. I was pretty stoked to be offered the opportunity- it was a great kicker of motivation. As always, all opinions are my own.]
I’ve only done 5ks and I really love running them. I’m training for a half too so maybe that will be a new favorite later this year!
I’m just now trying to get into running, and I would love to win the Garmin! But my favorite outside workout is pretty much anything. I love to bike and hike, play sports or just sit and enjoy the sunshine 🙂
I love running half marathons! I feel its the perfect distance – it requires some training so its a challenge but its also not too time consuming!
I have been really digging 10ks lately…doing one in 2 weeks!

I can’t believe I’m saying this, as I never used to run, but my favorite distance is the half marathon. There is just something about the feeling of accomplishment after running 13.1 miles, but it’s not as much of a training committment as the full marathon.
My favorite distance to run is around 4-5 miles. It’s a sweet spot where I feel accomplished but not over worked, haha.

I love 5k’s but am contemplating running a half this year. This time of year is awesome for running outside!
I love the 10K distance and I’m about a month away from my first half marathon, so we’ll see how 13.1 fits me!
I have only run a 5K so far! But I just started a training plan for a 10K and am hoping to do a half marathon this summer!

I’m working my way towards my first 5k. Now that the weather is starting to warm up here in Colorado, I’m excited to start doing more outdoor runs!
I love the 10K, but would like to try a half : )
I love running 10k distances. It’s actually my long run that I do every Wednesday. 5k seems fairly easy for me now, so I like the challenge of a 10k. I had built up to that distance for a 10k race about two years ago, and just sort of maintained it.
The farthest I’ve ever run was about 7.5 miles a month or so ago, when I wasn’t going to get to go to the gym for family reasons, so I literally just decided to run as far as I could while my podcast was playing. Surprisingly, I felt pretty awesome afterwards.

I just ran my first 10K this past weekend! It was a blast!
That purple is beautiful!
My favourite is a 5K run, I love them because they are short & sweet.
I’ve gotten friends to sign up for the “Color Me Rad” color 5k run here in July, which will be my 2nd race.
I’d like to do a 10k later this year.
I’d say 2-3 miles is my sweet spot. Not too long, not too short!
I never thought I’d say this, but 10ks are my favorite. A 5k was my goal for the longest time and once I conquered that, 10k is now the best. I have a half marathon coming up and this watch would be perfect for it.
I love 10 mile races!
I love 10ks.
Purple, ooh la la!
I decided to take a year off from doing half marathons and similarly long distances and have gotten super into running 5ks for fun and to compete with my friends.
Right now 5k working up to 10k. Recently bought a great pair of running shoes and they are making my runs much more comfortable. Can’t wait to slowly make the climb to 1/2 marathon!
Also, I’ve just tweeted about the Garmin.
Short and sweet! 10k all the way 🙂
Aaaand I tweeted 🙂
I tweeted about the giveaway (@cfalchet).
My fave is definitely a 5k! Hopefully I can amp it up to a 10k in the near future!
So far my fav running distance is 5K because I am a newbie and that is my current goal as I do c25k.Thank you for doing the giveaway!
I like a half marathon.
My fave running distance is 5 miles. Perfect amount of time and distance for me no matter what I am training for. 🙂
I have been wanting one of these forever. I just recently started running. I was overweight and lost 80 pounds in a year and half by walking, I recently started running. I want to run my first 5k soon, eventually I would like to do a half marathon. Baby steps!
I love 10k’s and feel comfortable doing them now, however, I would love to one day feel comfortable doing halfs! A girl can dream…
Love 10 km! Would love to work up to half marathon some day though 🙂
I would love to win this! I’ve only ever run a 5k but my college does a half marathon race every year and I’d love to do it next year since it is my senior year!
So far I’ve only run a couple 5k’s and loved em but I’m looking forward to a 10k & my first half this spring!
5Ks are my favorites for fun, easy runs. Any more than six is a challenge for me, even though I’ve done two half marathons!
I’m a big fan of half marathons!
I love 5ks because I’m a “new” runner. I hopefully am working up to a half next summer!
I am training for my first half marathon, which is at the end of this month. The only other race I ran was a 5k. I’m thinking that even though I’ve never “officially” competed in a 10k, that’s probably my favorite distance. Great giveaway! Love your blog!
No more running because of a herniated disc, but try to do at least a four mile walk 5 days a week when the weather cooperates. I use a recumbent bike in the winter.
5k but a half is my dream!
5k but a half is my dream!
I’m a total glutton for punishment and love training for the full marathon! There is nothing like a lazy sunday afternoon after a 20 mile run 😉
I love 15k races! There aren’t as many of those either =/
7 miles is my sweet spot run- time to gradually hit my stride and time to gradually cool down.
5Ks have been the most common distance I have run, but I love the challenge that a 10K provides me. I have a silent goal of doing a half sometime in the next 2 years.
10k’s all the way! Just long enough for me to get in a groove but not too long 🙂
