HUGE congrats to the lucky winner, Morgan, who said:
I love 10Ks too! Just enough to get the endorphins going, but not too much that your legs are completely screaming the next day.ย ย (Just loudly complaining.) |
Stay tuned for more giveaways in the near future <3 xoxo

For a while there, I was doing ok with the half marathon distance. I was running consistently, even pushing the jogging stroller for a few long runs, feeling great, wanted to keep running/racing, and then the cold weather hit. You might have remembered the Tucson snow (!) and nothing about that made me want to run outside.
(I guess if you really want it and live in a freezing climate, you just suck it up and do it, but I guess I didn’t want it that badly.)
Since then, I haven’t had much motivation. I’ve gone back to my nighttime workout ways, and have been doing HIIT intervals indoors even though the weather has been so beautiful. I need to enjoy it before it’s back to 6am training run time.
Yup. “Training run.”
I’m running another half marathon, but here’s the kicker: I’m actually going to train for it.
[Scared bird face. You’re welcome, haha.]
For the past two races, my training was really sporadic (some times I went a few weeks in between running at all) and even with the fact that I felt ready, the races were rough, and I didn’t run as well as I’d anticipated. This time, I’m ready to be more consistent and emphasize strength training. At that time, I wasn’t consistent with strength training, which likely had a negative impact on my runs.
The race deets:
I’ll be running the Women’s Running Series Half Marathon in Tempe/Scottsdale in November.
Use the discount code “FITAZGINA” to get $10 off your registration until November 3 if you’d like to run with me!
Here’s my plan:
-one long run a week (anything more than that, and I could overtrain with my teaching schedule) building on mileage (Sunday or Monday)
-one short run each week (Tuesday or Thursday)
-consistent strength training. I aim for 3 sessions each week, even though, realistically, I’m happy if I get two
For my training, I’ll also be using my Garmin Forerunner 10 to track distance. I love my Forerunner so much -super light and compact compared to the 305- and was so stoked when Garmin asked if I’d like to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive the new Forerunner 10 in the just-released gorgeous purple color!
You have two ways to enter:
1) Leave a comment and tell me your favorite running distance. I love 10ks but feel like there are less and less of them lately. Non runners: what’s your favorite outdoor workout?
2) Tweet, “I want to win a Garmin from @fitnessista #beamazing #lovemygarmin” and leave an extra comment to let me know you tweeted!
I’ll pick the winner tomorrow (4/4 at midnight EST).
Ready, set, go!
xoxo
Gina

Veteran’s Day half marathon recap
[I’m running the women’s half as part of a paid campaign with Fitfluential. I was pretty stoked to be offered the opportunity- it was a great kicker of motivation. As always, all opinions are my own.]
My favorite distance is the half! I also like 10ks, but I do better with the longer distance. This is an awesome giveaway!
Half-mary’s are awesome! I like training for them so much more than marathons.
Not a runner, but I’ve been been dying to run a 5K, my goal is to run one in the fall! Fingers crossed! Gonna start training when the weather warms up! My favorite outdoor workout is tennis, or simply taking the Ipad, finding a circuit workout online, and doing the workout in my backyard!
My favorite distance is the full marathon!
I tweeted!
I’m a new runner but I’m excited to be outside exercising. I’m going to Alaska for the summer and I can’t wait to run in the beautiful outdoors!
I love 10 mile races, but when I’m running on my own, I enjoy 3 miles.
I love biking outside much better than on my trainer…Where’s the warmth?!
5k’s are my favorite since they are so fun to do with a group of friends ๐
Not really a runner but I have really wanted to try running a 5k sometime. Anything with my horses probably counts as my favorite outdoor exercise. I also love going for walks with my mom when we can find the time

I like running ten miles. I’m doing the Cherry Blossom ten miler this weekend and I can’t wait for the Army one this fall!
I love the 5k! My daughter is 10 and we like to run 5ks together.

For fun training runs 10 k is my favourite distance
I tweeted. :). @jsechere
I love 5k’s. getting ready for the Neon Run San Diego next week.
I love to run 5k’s to I can really challenge my speed!
10ks are a great distance, but I have never actually ran one before. I run a lot of half marathons and one full marathon. I run these races with my sister. I just recently got a Garmin from my husband, but I would loooovve to have a Garmin to give to my sister. I love knowing my pace as I am running. It is such a great motivator.
I’m not much of a runner but I’d like to be! I’m thinking about doing the couch to 5k program to get me started ๐
I just ran my first 15K and I thought it was such an awesome distance!!!
I mostly race marathons and halfs but when I am training I love 15km runs!
My favorite are the 5ks! They are always such a fun environment.
My favorite are 5Ks, but I’d love to tackle longer runs – and this would be amazing motivation to do it!
I have to say I love mid distance runs 15k, 10 mile and Half Marathons are my favorites.
I love running ten milers! Perfect distance in my opinion!
I love 10ks! I just ran the Crescent City Classic in New Orleans last Saturday!
I’ve only run 5ks. Not in an official 5k race or anything, but just running 5k or a little over 3 miles each time I go for a run. Anything less feels too short, while more tires out my feet!
Half marathons are my jam!! But I’m psyched on anything that gets me outdoors. Bootcamp outdoors is a blast!
I really like 10k races and a good 8 mile training run. Running 8 miles on a whim is such a vicotious feeling!!!
I’m a high school cross country runner — have been on the varsity team since freshman year and this was my last season as a senior ๐ I’m hoping to continue to run in college next year (at UC Berkeley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Stoked.
My favorite distance is a steady state 10 miles — but I like the course to have some inclines and declines, and some change of pavement (grass, gravel, road, dirt).
I also have a few fav track workouts: 10X400M sprints, with 400M rest in between. And a pyramid piece that is to long to write out. If you’re interested, I’ll post it. ๐
I would so love a Garmin!! I would use it every day for the rest of my life. Help a poor college girl out, ahaha ๐
Keep on rocking the training plan, Gina! Looks great!
5 miles is definitely my favorite but I need to up my mileage
My favorite distance is the half marathon.
I am a new runner so I am loving the 5k but hope to work up to a half someday.
My favorite outdoor workout would have to be a tie between hiking with the dogs or swimming in the ocean!
I’m training for my first 1/2 marathon, so right now that is my favorite distance;) Besides that, I love biking outdoors. Can’t wait to get my bike out of the garage when the temps warm up!
I did my first half last fall and now I am hooked. Looking forward to my next in Las Vegas in November after having my first baby this summer!!! Love running in new cities, keeps the course exciting!!!
My favorite running distance is the half marathon. I’ve signed up for my fifth half this August!
I love 5Ks and 10Ks but really want to try a half-marathon! Trying to get the motivation to do one and break that 10 mile barrier!
I love 5 mile runs! Under an hour and I still feel likeigot in a good solid run!
I started training in January and am aiming to run my first 5K in about a month. After that I would like to run a half marathon. My runs are starting to get more consistent as the weather in northern Illinois warms up and the sun comes out ๐

My favorite distance is the half marathon! It gets my adrenaline pumping like no other:)
I love walks! I love the air in my lungs and the dog on the leash!
I tweeted too!

I love the 10k distance! It’s a strong distance without going into half marathon level, and fun at the same time!
Defo 10km! I try to do one every week as a long run even though I’m not training for anything at the mo. They’re long enough to be challenging and make you feel like you’ve achieved a decent distance at the end! But short enough so you don’t want to cry when you’re miles from home and have to go all the way back with a cramping calve/headache/it’s raining!
