Thank you so much for those of you who entered the giveaway! It has ended as of 4/5 12:48am.ย
HUGE congrats to the lucky winner, Morgan, who said:
I love 10Ks too! Just enough to get the endorphins going, but not too much that your legs are completely screaming the next day.ย ย (Just loudly complaining.) |
Stay tuned for more giveaways in the near future <3 xoxo

For a while there, I was doing ok with the half marathon distance. I was running consistently, even pushing the jogging stroller for a few long runs, feeling great, wanted to keep running/racing, and then the cold weather hit. You might have remembered the Tucson snow (!) and nothing about that made me want to run outside.
(I guess if you really want it and live in a freezing climate, you just suck it up and do it, but I guess I didn’t want it that badly.)
Since then, I haven’t had much motivation. I’ve gone back to my nighttime workout ways, and have been doing HIIT intervals indoors even though the weather has been so beautiful. I need to enjoy it before it’s back to 6am training run time.
Yup. “Training run.”
I’m running another half marathon, but here’s the kicker: I’m actually going to train for it.
[Scared bird face. You’re welcome, haha.]
For the past two races, my training was really sporadic (some times I went a few weeks in between running at all) and even with the fact that I felt ready, the races were rough, and I didn’t run as well as I’d anticipated. This time, I’m ready to be more consistent and emphasize strength training. At that time, I wasn’t consistent with strength training, which likely had a negative impact on my runs.
The race deets:
I’ll be running the Women’s Running Series Half Marathon in Tempe/Scottsdale in November.
Use the discount code “FITAZGINA” to get $10 off your registration until November 3 if you’d like to run with me!
Here’s my plan:
-one long run a week (anything more than that, and I could overtrain with my teaching schedule) building on mileage (Sunday or Monday)
-one short run each week (Tuesday or Thursday)
-consistent strength training. I aim for 3 sessions each week, even though, realistically, I’m happy if I get two
For my training, I’ll also be using my Garmin Forerunner 10 to track distance. I love my Forerunner so much -super light and compact compared to the 305- and was so stoked when Garmin asked if I’d like to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive the new Forerunner 10 in the just-released gorgeous purple color!
You have two ways to enter:
1) Leave a comment and tell me your favorite running distance. I love 10ks but feel like there are less and less of them lately. Non runners: what’s your favorite outdoor workout?
2) Tweet, “I want to win a Garmin from @fitnessista #beamazing #lovemygarmin” and leave an extra comment to let me know you tweeted!
I’ll pick the winner tomorrow (4/4 at midnight EST).
Ready, set, go!
xoxo
Gina

Veteran’s Day half marathon recap
[I’m running the women’s half as part of a paid campaign with Fitfluential. I was pretty stoked to be offered the opportunity- it was a great kicker of motivation. As always, all opinions are my own.]
What an AWESOME giveaway!! My favorite distance to run is 5 miles. It’s long enough to push yourself without dreading the distance.
A half marathon is the perfect distance. Unlike a marathon, I can walk the next day!
I love 5 and 10Ks, they feel like the perfect distance outside in the spring … that purple color is so fab!!
I like the good ole 5K Cant get enough of them
Nothing beats a good 5-7 mile run on the weekend. My wife would love the purple garmin since she keeps yelling at me for taking her green one ๐

I really enjoy half marathons! They are a challenge, but manageable at the same time!! ๐
I am relatively new to running so I like short and sweet runs like 5 or 10km along the beach. My favourite outdoor workout is hiking!! It’s so nice to be outdoors, breathing fresh air and enjoying our beautiful surroundings as well as getting a great workout in ๐
I’m not a runner…. but I do enjoy a 5k on occassion. I live in FL so I spend a lot of time outdoors on my bike.
5 mile or 10k – love the new watch, way cuter than the old style!!! good luck with your half in november!
I liking running 10k’s. I find the distance a good challenge for me.
I like the half. It evens the playing field with the guys a bit since you don’t have to go all out the entire time!
5k! I’m not much of a runner, but a 5k “fun run” is always a good time with friends.

10K, but I’d love to push myself for a half one day!
Half marathons are my favorite. I’m with you on feeling that there aren’t many 10k’s lately. Maybe it’s because half marathons have gotten so popular.
I just got into running, so I don’t have a favorite distance. Some of my favorite outdoor workouts include walking with my dogs and hiking. Great giveaway idea, Gina!
My favourite distance is anything over 10km because I have to put a real effort into training for them!
Haven’t made it further than 5k distance yet, but contemplating trying a 10k or half some day. My favorite outdoor workout is exploring nearby hike & bike trails or exactly what you said – dragging a yoga mat out back.
LOVE the half marathon distance. I have run 2 marathons which are great, but 13.1 miles is easier to fit into my daily life. Running outdoors is the best!
My favorite distance is a 10 miler!
I just recently started running outside again, which is why I’ve been eyeing the Garmin! My fave distance is one that is just a little longer than my last run. ๐
Half marathon is my favorite distance. Long enough to get into a comfortable pace but not long enough to hurt like a marathon. Good luck with your training!
I have only ran 5ks but am looking forward to a 10k and half marathons in the future!
10 miler! It’s long enough to make me feel like I accomplshed an important goal!
I’ve only done one 10K but I thought it was the perfect distance for me!
Either a full or half marathon. I love my 305 but the forerunner 10 would be great for shorter runs!
I like the 10K distance best!
I think 10k is the perfect distance:)
My favorite is the half marathon. I love it for many different reasons but most of all because of the extra effort put in to maintaining a training scheduled that shows me that I can stay focused and dedicated with anything else, not just running. Not to mention the looks you get when you tell people you run half marathons for fun…
I am training for a 5K and that would be an awesome tool to use!
I’m definitely a fan of the 10K distance although I’m also prone to signing up for five-milers last minute! Anything shorter than five miles is just too short and you have to run too fast.
I love to hike, but would love to see if I can transition into running and would love to start with a 5K. A Garmin would be a big help! ๐
I signed up for my first 5k! Running does not come naturally to me, so I need to train to run this ickle baby race….a Garmin would be helpful to start my running career!
I tweeted!
I just started running and have surprised myself by liking about a 5 mile run the best…I figured I’d never make it past 3 miles ๐
I love the 10k, too! I feel like it’s a good distance that you can challenge yourself with while still keeping a fast pace!.
I also tweeted!
Ive never raced… I trained for a half marathon and accidently mis-marked the day in my calender and missed the whole thing! I love running 6 miles though so 10k would be my fav!
I love 10k and half marathon!
I tweeted too ๐
I love walking/running outside. It is still cold here..but the sun is shining. A Garmin would be amazing !
10Ks are the best!
I love my standard 3 mile run. Favorite!
I’ve only ever run 5k races. But a half marathon is on my bucket list.
When I use to run, my favourite distance was 10 km. Now that I don’t run, my favourite outdoor activity is going for walks- or bringing my yoga mat outside and practicing there.
I love 10k distance races. It’s a bit of a challenge as I typically only run about 3 miles at a time. But, not so far that I have to train for it.
I also really enjoy the 10K distance!
10K distance is my favorite… though I do always like a 10 miler challenge.
I absolutely love 10K distance. There really are less and less of them now, but I feel like they could make a comeback since 5K’s are so commonplace. Hopefully they’ll bring them back in Texas :)!
Tweeted you! Happy Thursday!
