Thank you so much for those of you who entered the giveaway! It has ended as of 4/5 12:48am.ย
HUGE congrats to the lucky winner, Morgan, who said:
I love 10Ks too! Just enough to get the endorphins going, but not too much that your legs are completely screaming the next day.ย ย (Just loudly complaining.) |
Stay tuned for more giveaways in the near future <3 xoxo

For a while there, I was doing ok with the half marathon distance. I was running consistently, even pushing the jogging stroller for a few long runs, feeling great, wanted to keep running/racing, and then the cold weather hit. You might have remembered the Tucson snow (!) and nothing about that made me want to run outside.
(I guess if you really want it and live in a freezing climate, you just suck it up and do it, but I guess I didn’t want it that badly.)
Since then, I haven’t had much motivation. I’ve gone back to my nighttime workout ways, and have been doing HIIT intervals indoors even though the weather has been so beautiful. I need to enjoy it before it’s back to 6am training run time.
Yup. “Training run.”
I’m running another half marathon, but here’s the kicker: I’m actually going to train for it.
[Scared bird face. You’re welcome, haha.]
For the past two races, my training was really sporadic (some times I went a few weeks in between running at all) and even with the fact that I felt ready, the races were rough, and I didn’t run as well as I’d anticipated. This time, I’m ready to be more consistent and emphasize strength training. At that time, I wasn’t consistent with strength training, which likely had a negative impact on my runs.
The race deets:
I’ll be running the Women’s Running Series Half Marathon in Tempe/Scottsdale in November.
Use the discount code “FITAZGINA” to get $10 off your registration until November 3 if you’d like to run with me!
Here’s my plan:
-one long run a week (anything more than that, and I could overtrain with my teaching schedule) building on mileage (Sunday or Monday)
-one short run each week (Tuesday or Thursday)
-consistent strength training. I aim for 3 sessions each week, even though, realistically, I’m happy if I get two
For my training, I’ll also be using my Garmin Forerunner 10 to track distance. I love my Forerunner so much -super light and compact compared to the 305- and was so stoked when Garmin asked if I’d like to do a giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive the new Forerunner 10 in the just-released gorgeous purple color!
You have two ways to enter:
1) Leave a comment and tell me your favorite running distance. I love 10ks but feel like there are less and less of them lately. Non runners: what’s your favorite outdoor workout?
2) Tweet, “I want to win a Garmin from @fitnessista #beamazing #lovemygarmin” and leave an extra comment to let me know you tweeted!
I’ll pick the winner tomorrow (4/4 at midnight EST).
Ready, set, go!
xoxo
Gina

Veteran’s Day half marathon recap
[I’m running the women’s half as part of a paid campaign with Fitfluential. I was pretty stoked to be offered the opportunity- it was a great kicker of motivation. As always, all opinions are my own.]
I’m just getting into running, so I’m not sure about the distance. I’m hoping to run a 5K within the next few months. I love to play tennis, though!
Not much of a runner but I’m training for a 5k in May so we will see how that goes!
I’ve just recently been bit by the racing bug– and I’m totally into 5Ks at the moment!! Haven’t raced since high school and I’m looking forward to signing up to race!!
I really prefer 5-milers, but 10ks are good too. I’m running my first half marathon at the end of the month- yikes! So well see how that goes!!!
I love a 10K. Not too short, not too long.
My favorite is 5K….no matter how long it’s been since I ran I know it’s a good distance that gets my heart rate up
I like 10k runs. It’s a great distance for me.
I’m a pretty new runner so 5Ks are currently my favorite distance. Can’t wait until I’m able to go longer!
I wish I had more time… 5k work with my schedule right now ๐ and I love purple!
My favorite run is a 10k. I’m running the Philadelphia broad street 10 miler in a month and although its a really easy run I’d love to pace with this awesome Garmin!!
i am slowly but surely building up my endurance. i just recently peaked at 6 miles so i would say that is my favorite!! haha. i love seeing how much farther i can push myself, but i think 5-6 miles is the perfect distance for me.
i have been wanting a garmin so bad to help track my distance! you can only rely on an iPhone for so much ๐
i also always “thought” you lived in arizona, but was never sure. i live in scottsdale ๐ neighbors!
i tweeted! @AccidentlyDlish
I would love to win a garmin!!! My favorite race length right now is the 10k. 5ks are over so quickly so the 10k makes the effort of getting out there to race feel more worth it and its a challenge since I don’t have time to run the distance regularly.
I love 10ks and ran my first official race 10k last weekend!
Great giveaway! My favorite race distance is the half marathon and run for fun is 8-10 miles ๐
I have to go with the good old 5K!
I really like 5 milers and 10 milers (random, I know!)…I feel like I could push myself but they aren’t as long/monotonous as 10k/half marathon
I tweeted about the giveaway too!
I have been dreaming for a Garmin! My favorite casual running distance is 5 – 6 miles ๐
I love the 10 mile and half marathon distance, comfortably challenging!
My favorite running distance is 5 miles. Not too long, not too short.
I just started training for a Tough Mudder and would LOVE the Garmin to track my distance on training runs. I have been running outdoors and guessing the distance I’ve gone based upon how long it takes me to run it – so this would make a huge difference !!
For a race, I love the half marathon! On a daily basis, 6 is always my feel good number.
I love to hike.
I love to hike.
Love the purple color. ๐ my fingers and toes are crossed- this new mom needs help getting back into shape after baby. My favorite distance is the half but I full enjoyed the one full marathon I ran.
My favorite running distance so far is a 10k, but I’m working my way up to my first half marathon this September!
I love 10K distance! I’ve done one half and its been just enough time for me to think I MIGHT want to train for another ๐
I tweeted about the giveaway!
I would love to run this race with you, but I just found out I’m due nov 6 with baby #2! So I’ll be doing my own endurance event;) I will be cheering for you though!
I love 5ks for a race! My favorite mileage for training is 5, it just feels right!
I have ALWAYS wanted a Garmin for keeping track of my runs. My favorite running distance is anywhere from 6-10 miles. I feel like anything less than 3 its hard for me to get into the “zone”. Once I break that wall it gets easier and easier… until mile 10 ๐
Just tweeted! ๐ Love the GARMIN!
I love 10ks and half marathons! 10ks are perfect, just long enough to be a challenge, but won’t kill you. Half marathons make me feel like Wonder Woman – if I can do that, I can do anything! Wonder what a full marathon would feel like!?!
I tweeted the giveaway!
My favorite distance is 4-5 miles but only if I am running outside. I feel like I hit my stride after 3 miles and the last two miles are always the most enjoyable. However, if I run on the treadmill, 3 miles is my golden number.
I love to go on hikes through the mountains.
I love the half marathon distance
I love half marathons but have had trouble finding ones that fit my schedule/arent in the dead of summer heat so Ive been sticking more to 5ks. Trying to sign up for my next one sometime soon and would LOVE to have a new garmin to help track!
Half marathons are my favorite!
I love 15k and half marathon distances!
I also tweeted!
I like 5k’s. Not super long but at least I’m running, right?
My favorite race is the 10 miler!
I just tweeted about the giveaway!
My favorite outdoor workout has to be cross country running!
3-4 miles is my favorite distance! I also love to snowboard! ๐
Biking is my fav outside activities. Hiking is a very close second! I want a garmin!!! Please!:)
I have a half at the end of April, my running has been sporadic too! I’ve got to say I’m a short distance girl at heart, 5k any day
Hey Gina!
My favorite distance is definitely 4 miles. It’s weird, because it’s a little more than a 5k, but I feel like the extra mile gives me some time to warm up and ease into a faster pace.
I’ll also be tweeting at you!
