Sweet Treats

Hiiiiiii 😀 How are you?? I’m feeling SO much better after taking it easy last night, and actually slept through the night. I’ve only slept through the night a handful of times since the Pilot left, so it felt very bueno. I may or may not be napping in my acupuncture chair later, too 😉photo (4)

Thanks again for all of your lovely suggestions on sore throat remedies! I’ve been doing the salt water and apple cider vinegar things, and think they’ve helped so far. Bella also said thank you for the compliments on her new haircut… she feels very pretty 🙂

Speaking of sweet treats, check out the cake my bro made for his cakes final with Meg:

Gorgeous, right?! I already put in a cake order with him 😀

Yesterday was a great day at work, but there was a fail thrown in there. I taught a stretch class which ended up being WAY too hard, too fast (TWSS), and need to really slow down and simplify it for tomorrow. I think a lot of it was nerves, so it will be better tomorrow anyway. I also had to take a few classes yesterday so I can eventually teach them, including a water class that I actually liked!

Ya’ll know I can’t swim –I’m a float on a raft or cling to a noodle kind of girl- but this class was right up my alley, since we used THESE for it:

0aa0246bd3fc4a16_flotation-belt

Flotation belts!

Toshiba Digital Camera Source

I actually like swimming when my risk of drowning is reduced 😉

We did a cardio workout using the floatation belts, and it was surprisingly VERY challenging and a lot of fun.

Some recent eats:

cookie

Breakfast cookie + 2 amazeballz

tortilla

Brown rice tortilla with goat cream cheese and salsa

I’m off to walk Bella and then headed to work for an hour. Lots to do today!

See ya later (and also with a new fashion post) 😀

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What’s something you’ve always wanted to learn how to do? Maybe this summer will be the one I learn how to swim 😉 Any fun talents? I used to be able to play a song on the piano with my toes, but alas, I have giant monkey toes haha.

Gorgeous cake! And I’m so happy you are feeling better. Those flotation belts would make the red speedo suit look even sexier, i’m sure. 😉

you have no idea how hawt i look in water classes. hahaha so embarassing

  3. Allison @ Food For Healing on May 13, 2011 at 10:57 am

hope she enjoys those macaroons! i’m totally jealous lol
that floating belt thing would be a life saver to me if i was in too deep of water to touch the bottom, but i would still be terrified!
    i want cake.

  4. Tessa @ Amazing Asset on May 13, 2011 at 10:57 am

Wow, what a gorgeous cake! He sure has talent and is quite artistic!
Swimming can be quite hard when you first get started, but it becomes easier and more comfortable each and every day. I would compare it to improving running, it sucks and feels terrible at first, but starts to be natural and feels great!

  5. AJ on May 13, 2011 at 10:58 am

I feel you about not being able to sleep as well without the man! My long distance bf comes back home FOR GOOD in about 1.5 months. I can hardly wait!

As for something I’ve always wanted to do… Well, last summer I tried water skiing and it was.. uh.. sorta fun. Lets just say if you fall in a particular way, water can shoot up places that lake water was never meant to go. haha! Sorry if that was TMI! But the important thing is, I tried many times, and stayed up on the skis for a little while too! The important thing is to get out there and do something new, right? : )

I’m not a good swimmer at all — I need that belt 🙂 I also can’t go under water without holding my nose.

I’d love to learn a foreign language — I took German in college but I’d love to learn Italian or Spanish.

    That cake is gorgeous!

  9. suzi on May 13, 2011 at 11:07 am

Next up try the tethered aqua class with the floatation belts – those are K-I-L-L-E-R! But in a good way 😉

Glad you had a good night’s sleep, I’m hoping for one of those tonight myself!

    • Fitnessista on May 13, 2011 at 11:08 am

      that sounds scary! hahaha

      • suzi on May 13, 2011 at 11:22 pm

It’s rough that’s fo’ so’. I once did a deepwater “aquafit triathalon” class at an aquafitness conference – I could barely walk the next day!

  10. Kilee on May 13, 2011 at 11:08 am

Hi Gina! Sounds like everything has been crazy busy lately. I know that you are doing awesome with the classes and it probably just takes time to perfect each new class that you teach. Bella looks extra sassy with her bows 🙂

As for something I’ve always wanted to learn : surfing. I have tried it a handful of times and haven’t been able to ride a wave. I can kiteboard and stand up paddle board, but not surfing.

Have a fun day and hopefully you can get some relax time in this weekend!

  11. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on May 13, 2011 at 11:11 am

I haven’t done an aqua class in forever! I love them though – great low impact and fun at the same time! I’ve always wanted to learn how to surf, but haven’t had the chance yet. I have a bit of a fear of sharks!

  12. ellalinea on May 13, 2011 at 11:12 am

That cake looks amazing, your brother is a baking talent 🙂

That lesson seems like so much fun.. I wonder If I could visit Tucson in the summer to take one of your classes 😉

  13. Marie on May 13, 2011 at 11:13 am

I love aqua activities. It’s a workout without feeling sweaty and icky.

  14. Shanna @ Shanna Like Banana on May 13, 2011 at 11:19 am

I always wish I was forced to play piano. I suppose I can still learn.

I also wish my Mom would have kept me in ballet so I could have learned pointe

  16. Kristina @ spabettie on May 13, 2011 at 11:29 am

Gina! I don’t know how to swim either 😀 and I taught a water aerobic class in college – we had those belts and hand resistance things. it was SO fun, but once I landed funny and sprained my ankle. water is a funny thing!

    that cake looks awesome!

  17. Dani on May 13, 2011 at 11:33 am

    that cake looks amazing!

i’ve always wanted to be good at surfing. hopefully i’ll get to work on those skillz this summer, haha.

  18. Brandi on May 13, 2011 at 11:33 am

    Wow what a cake!

I had to aqua jog when I had stress fractures and used one of those flotation belts. It was the most boring thing everrrrr jogging in place like that but I also cant swim so I was grateful for it. My summer goal is to finish my “don’t drown” lessons. I’ve been trying to learn to swim properly for years!

I love your pictures of Bella!

  19. Colleen on May 13, 2011 at 11:33 am

Sounds like you have very active days! Have you had to significantly adjust your eating to accommodate all the new fitness classes?

  20. kaila @ healthyhelper! on May 13, 2011 at 11:40 am

I’ve always wanted to learn how to hip hop dance! I would love to be able to tap into my inner gangsta! I’m sorry about the stretch class…….I didn’t even think a stretch class could be hard! LOL! I would love to be able to get a workout just from stretching! What is twss by the way?

  21. Katie on May 13, 2011 at 11:47 am

This summer I’m learning how to play my new ukulele. 🙂

Definitely give the swimming thing a good shot – as a swim instructor, I highly recommend it. Once you conquer the confidence factor, you’ll realize that you’re probably lots better at it than you realize. Plus, learning the basics of a variety of strokes makes it a lot easier so you’re not committed to just one.

  22. courtney @ cupcakedynamite on May 13, 2011 at 11:54 am

what a lucky sister you are!! and those flotation belts – hilarious. glad they’re helping you conquer your fear though 🙂 have an amazing weekend!!

  23. Anna on May 13, 2011 at 11:55 am

I want to learn how to play the guitar instead of only knowing a few chords. I would also like to learn how to dance. Maybe some zumba will help inspire me 🙂

  24. Chelsea on May 13, 2011 at 12:03 pm

this summer I really want to swim more! I need to find my pool card though. On days I don’t have aerobics in the morning for school I want to start swimming laps in the pool.

  25. Katie on May 13, 2011 at 12:07 pm

The cake is beautiful!!! What flavor was it ?! If I lived close your brother would SO be doing my wedding cake! ha!

Have a great day Love!!!! xoxo <3

  26. Gina @Running to the Kitchen on May 13, 2011 at 12:15 pm

That cake is amazing! Did you get to eat it??
I’ve always wanted to learn how to do the flip-kick thing in a swimming pool. I’m always so scared I’m going to hit my head on the side of the wall so I never really try.

  27. Michelle C on May 13, 2011 at 12:19 pm

I FINALLY made your amazeballs. I don’t know why I waited so long. They are delish and I crave them now!!

  30. Morgan on May 13, 2011 at 12:35 pm

Glad you are feeling better and got some rest! I love catching up on sleep!!

I am freakishly good at remembering random phone numbers, extensions, patient’s names and certain calls at work.

  31. Morgan on May 13, 2011 at 12:35 pm

P.S. Major kudos to your brother on that cake!! Looks amazing!!

  32. Haleigh on May 13, 2011 at 12:45 pm

What a gorgeous cake! I’m glad that you are starting to feel better today. I hope the trend continues!

  33. Kimberly on May 13, 2011 at 12:46 pm

Oh i just ordered one of those AquaJoggers and started using it last week while I heal from a running injury!

  34. Katie on May 13, 2011 at 12:48 pm

I’ve always wanted to learn Krav Maga… my boyfriend’s schedule is wacky right now, but once it settles down a bit we’re going to give it a try. 🙂 I’d love to learn how to kick someone’s ass if they are harming me or someone else. 😉

Does being an awesome organizer count as a fun talent? Cos I’m really good at being obsessive about things being neat, organized (so if I need it ASAP I’m not freaking out that I can’t find it), and decluttering (if I haven’t used it in a year, it’s getting tossed – with the exception of sentimental stuff of course).

  35. Erin @ The Grass Skirt on May 13, 2011 at 12:49 pm

I’ll bet you’d be a natural swimmer! I’ve always wanted to learn how to garden. I stink at it, and everything I try to grow dies immediately. I’m definitely lacking green thumbs.

  36. Kelly on May 13, 2011 at 12:53 pm

I just took a water aerobics class this morning too! Way fun and challenging at the same time! Have a wonderful Friday!!

  37. Cait @ Beyond Bananas on May 13, 2011 at 12:54 pm

I’ve always wanted to learn how to dance.. with rhythm.. without feel totally silly when I’m groovin!

  38. Erica on May 13, 2011 at 12:59 pm

Awesome cake! Something I’d like to “learn”….swimming again. I love to swim, well I used to….until I had major surgery on my foot. The first time I got into the water after surgery, everything felt so weird I immediately decided I was going to drown. Maybe this summer I’ll push those fears away! If not, boxing is a close second!

  39. Ashley @ Feeding Ashley on May 13, 2011 at 1:06 pm

I’ve always wanted to be able to sing. Whenever I hear beautiful songs I just want to belt them out, but it sounds terrible haha.
Apparently I hold chopsticks in a strange way that just works for me. Maybe that’s my special talent.

  40. Rhiannon on May 13, 2011 at 1:23 pm

I can’t swim either, and I wish this would be the summer that I learn to be aquatic 😉 In deep water I just panic and can’t tread, I kind of look like Phoebe running, but in the deep end!

  41. Michelle (your girlfriend for fitness) on May 13, 2011 at 1:35 pm

I love the water and can swim, well my own version of swimming, but this summer I want to learn the proper technique for swimming laps. I am suppose to register for a tri later this summer, so I guess it would be wise to learn 🙂

  42. Evan Thomas on May 13, 2011 at 1:36 pm

You should DEFINITELY learn how to swim. I waited until I was 10 and even then I felt like a late bloomer. I still just sit around the pool looking chill whenever we’re there, but it’s nice to know 🙂

  43. Mary @ Bites and Bliss on May 13, 2011 at 1:52 pm

I’ve always wanted to learn how to cake decorate. Not really from a bakery, but maybe take art classes an d learn how to sculpt and what not so I could take it to cake.

  44. Megan@Dirty Dishes Daily on May 13, 2011 at 1:57 pm

This summer I hope to learn a bunch of new recipes and do a half marathon for the first time.

  45. MC on May 13, 2011 at 1:58 pm

I’ve always wanted to learn to play golf. My dad tried to teach me when I was young, but it never stuck! Oh well, someday. As for random talents, I’m really good at whistling and spinning quarters.

  46. Jillian on May 13, 2011 at 2:25 pm

I always wanted to learn to surf. I can snowboard, it can’t be that hard right???

  47. Parita @ myinnershakti on May 13, 2011 at 3:32 pm

  48. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on May 13, 2011 at 3:43 pm

Glad you’re feeling better and got a good night’s sleep in. Wonderful!

Hidden talents…I can function on 5 hours of sleep. Not a badge of honor, and not by choice, but it’s been the reality for the past 5 years or so. But I do prefer more!

I want to get better at photography and learn and grow. It’s truly become a passion and a hobby that I’m loving.

I want to hear that piano jingle of yours 🙂
