{Video Post} Cakes and Bangs

Hi friends–Major apologies for the blog down time this morning. The entire Dreamhost site was down, along with this little blog and many of my friends’ blogs. Blah to that. Looks like everything is back in action, though!

As agitated as I was, there was absolutely nada I could do about it, so I made pancakes 🙂

Used this new-to-me pancake mix for the depths of the pantry:

Maple Grove Farms Gluten-Free Pancake Mix

Usually I’m apprehensive about gluten-free mixes… sometimes they come out super chewy, chalky, or gaggable.

I said a Hail Mary and decided to go for it:

1/4 C mix (1 serving)

1 egg white

almond milk

vanilla

pancake mix

When I cooked up the cakes, I was pleasantly surprised.

gluten-free pancakes with eggs

They got a little brown on the outside, but the inside was fluffy, foodgasmic city.

pancakes

Like REAL pancakes 😀

Baller.

So last week, I did a little twisty thing with my bangs since they were getting too long,

twisty bangs

and  received quite a few comments and emails asking how I did it.

It really ain’t no thang, so I made a little video to explain.

Twisty Bang Hair Tutorial

A pretty way to get your bangs out of your face 😀

(Side note: I almost didn’t post this video because of my nose –I’m super self conscious about it and this angle didn’t work in my favor- but in hopes of trying to embrace the honker, I decided to go for it.)

I’m off on an adventure with the Madre. See ya this afternoon!

xoxo

Gina

I broke my nose twice and recently started to embrace the imperfection– honkers are the new thanggg! Love that you still posted the video, although I have been guilty of deleting pics due to the terrible nose angles! Pancakes look delicious!

  2. Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife on March 14, 2011 at 1:16 pm

oooooh I am going to try that to my bangs too- thanks!! 🙂 And those pancakes look SOOO fluffy inside…I just want to gobble them up too!

  3. alicia on March 14, 2011 at 1:23 pm

Is there anything funnier than a -that’s what she said- joke? No way! You looked great in the vid, love the biceps!

  4. caryn on March 14, 2011 at 1:29 pm

cool vid! thanks! i don’t even have a cool excuse like breaking it a few times…my nose is just kinda big and weird (“i was born this way, hey!”). lol. you look gorge, so hakuna matata!

  5. Krista @ Journey to a Healthy Berg on March 14, 2011 at 1:30 pm

  7. Diana on March 14, 2011 at 1:39 pm

I’ve always been self conscious about my nose too, but girl you are gorgeous and I’m so glad you decided to put the video up, because it’s a good lesson of self love!

  8. Kari on March 14, 2011 at 1:40 pm

I love the video!! And twisty bangs thing still looks harder than I expected it to be…I shall try though :). And I see absolutely nothing wrong with your nose, looks pretty normal to me, angle or no angle!

  9. Maria on March 14, 2011 at 1:40 pm

Love the bangs! I think I’ll try this out, I’m in the process of growing mine out but they’re kind of crazy and curly right now. I’m really self-conscious about my nose as well, so I know how you feel. But you look beautiful!! Quirky noses add character in my opinion.

  10. Little Bookworm on March 14, 2011 at 1:41 pm

Thanks for the hair video – really useful! 🙂

  11. Caree @ Fit-Mama on March 14, 2011 at 1:44 pm

I love french braiding my bangs…the twist is definitely cute too! I will have to try it!! 🙂

  12. Ava on March 14, 2011 at 1:44 pm

Dude, you are breathtakingly gorgeous and your nose is fabulous! 😉

Keep up the good work! I love reading your blog!

    “That’s what she said” bahahaha.

  14. Dominique @ The Good Life on March 14, 2011 at 1:47 pm

Girl, you are gorgeous! If you feel uncomfortable with your nose, you need to look at my schnoz. Growing up, my brother told me it looked like a life size Cabbage-Patch doll’s nose.

  15. Suzi on March 14, 2011 at 1:49 pm

I’ve got the same nose – or a worse one. Partly inherated from my father, part the result of a hockey puck to the face (from a HARD slap shot). The nose doesn’t bother me nearly as much as my crooked front tooth, that drives me CRAZY!!! ugh.

Love the hair twist, I often do a version of that when I have back to back classes and don’t want to look like I’ve got uber sweaty gross hair 😉

  16. Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers on March 14, 2011 at 1:49 pm

i’ve never seen bangs twisted like that! i love the video. i always pin back my bangs and can’t wait to try this!

  17. KG on March 14, 2011 at 1:59 pm

Thanks for the hair trick Gina- so cute! Also, I know we are our own worst critics but your nose is beautiful and good for you for trying to embrace something you feel self-conscious about! I think we can all learn from that- thank you!

  18. Stephanie on March 14, 2011 at 2:01 pm

Love the video, love, love, love your blog. So glad I found it way back in 2009 :). I gave blogging a whirl and gave it up, but am feeling inspired to try again–new posts going up today!

  19. zoe (and the beatles) on March 14, 2011 at 2:06 pm

yay! thanks for the video — i was totally wondering how to do that twisty braid! it’s so cute 🙂 and shush, your nose is beautiful :)!

  20. Stephanie on March 14, 2011 at 2:16 pm

I wish I would have known to do that @live,love, and inspiration with my name! Maybe next time 🙂

  21. Jackie @ Baking Charms on March 14, 2011 at 2:17 pm

Okay the part about “adding in” the pieces? That’s what I’ve been doing wrong! Could never figure out why my braids didn’t look cute… haha thanks for the vid! 🙂

  22. Hannah on March 14, 2011 at 2:28 pm

Thanks, Gina! I will have to try this now that my bangs are getting longer.

And I think your nose is so cute! 😀

  23. Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete on March 14, 2011 at 2:30 pm

I love this post Gina — my bangs are getting long (I think I might grow them out again) and I usually just bobby pin them back but it looks kind of boring some days (since it is EVERY DAY, ha!).

Eek I’m nervous since I am in the process of switching to Dreamhost — hopefully there are no problems once I’m on board 🙂

  24. Mindy on March 14, 2011 at 2:33 pm

Thank you for the video – I thought it was just a braid at first. I swear we have the same nose and I have always been self-conscious too, I only take pics with my “good side” haha.

  25. Jill@southbychic on March 14, 2011 at 2:36 pm

You are absolutely silly!! You are one hawt mama!

  26. Katie on March 14, 2011 at 2:39 pm

    I love your fluffy pancakes!!!!!!!!!

U know what, I KNOW there is nothing wrong with your nose ; ) you are BEAUTIFUL and I also know we all have our insecurities ; ) nothing wrong with that, we are human : ) I miss u friend! I hope your day is great! xoxo <3

  27. Runeatrepeat on March 14, 2011 at 2:40 pm

I love house shopping too! Even when I was a teen I would read the Real Estate section of the paper every Sunday. Random, but I still love it.

  28. Sable @ SquatLikeALady on March 14, 2011 at 2:42 pm

I wish I had bangs so I could make that pretty little twist!!

ALSO there is absolutely nothing wrong with your nose. You’re beautiful!

  29. nicole on March 14, 2011 at 2:42 pm

You look gorgeous! Don’t even worry about the nose. And thanks for the awesome hair tip, I don’t have bangs but I often have the slightly-sweaty hair that I don’t want to wash!

  30. Kaytee on March 14, 2011 at 2:42 pm

Thanks for the video. I’m so excited to do this twist to my bangs now! I’ve only french braided mine so far, so this will be a fun change.

  31. Lilla on March 14, 2011 at 2:46 pm

Thanks for the vid! BTW, you are a gorgeous girl! Sorry to hear you’re self conscious about your nose. I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t mentioned it. Seriously, you are radiant inside and out!! 🙂

  32. Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews on March 14, 2011 at 2:49 pm

Dang look at your guns when you are doing your little braid! You are strong : )

  33. Katy@ A Healthy Shot of Life on March 14, 2011 at 2:49 pm

Love your bang trick! I usually pull my bangs back but I tend to rock a braid- I can’t wait to try the twist 🙂

  34. Ashley @ the fit academic on March 14, 2011 at 2:50 pm

so cute! I love the video tutorial! (that’s what she said! haha) – really though, no reason to feel self-conscious! You’re beautiful! I’m glad you posted the video, I’m totally going to do this with my hair!!!

  35. Amber on March 14, 2011 at 2:56 pm

Girl, you’re crazy. I love your cute nose! I know you’ve mentioned the nose thing before, but I honestly probably wouldn’t have even noticed anything about your nose unless you said something! Those little quirks are what make us hawt. 😉

Love the hair thing – so gonna do this!

  36. Amber on March 14, 2011 at 2:58 pm

Dang it – not sure why my comment linked to an old, closed-down blog. Booo…anyways, that old link isn’t me. 🙂

  37. Shari B. on March 14, 2011 at 3:06 pm

Gina – I know I don’t comment all that often, but I had to hop on today and tell you you’re gorgeous inside & out … and NOT to feel self-conscious about your nose! If it makes you feel any better, my nickname in junior high was BEAK!!! 😉 To add insult to injury, I even had a large freckle on the end of it – so I was forever having people tell me I had dirt on my nose!! It doesn’t bother me now and I’m fine with my “beak” – I think I kind of grew into it.

Either way, you have a beautiful face, and a hot hubby who thinks you’re a HOT MAMACITA so that’s what matters 🙂

Have a great day! Thanks for the video – love the twisty bangs!

  38. Lindsay on March 14, 2011 at 3:07 pm

Gina, I’m very self conscious about my nose too- it’s more of a “Roman” nose versus a pretty straight button “Disney princess” nose. Haha. I understand your self consciousness but honestly the whole time I was watching, I was thinking about what a BEAUTIFUL bone structure you have and how your clearly very healthy skin and hair just enhance that. Your nose reminds me of Karolina Kurkova’s, actually- a tiny bump and extra straight past that, which I think is actually the prettiest kind. I’ll trade you 😉 You’re gorgeous!

  39. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on March 14, 2011 at 3:08 pm

OMG I will totally vote for your friends because a shopping spree from Crate & Barrel sounds like one of the best prizes ever! If I was getting married I’d totally be going for that!
Love your bangs and the video is great! I’ve got ‘a honker’ as well and am quite self conscious about it to so I know how you feel!

  40. Erin D. on March 14, 2011 at 3:08 pm

Thank you for the video! I was one of those people going “OMG, how did she do that?!?” I actually tried it this morning (mostly successful) and I’m glad to see I did it right!

  41. Andrea on March 14, 2011 at 3:14 pm

I’ve always thought your nose is totally beautiful. Coming from someone who has a petite, ski-jump nose, I love yours. I understand being self conscious, but remember how truly beautiful you are on those days!

  42. Sarah C on March 14, 2011 at 3:20 pm

Gina, you are a hair genius! My hair has been a beast since my sweet little girl was born and I don’t have a lt of time to do anything with it. Thank you, thank you!

Ps You are way beautiful! No self-consciousness needed!

  43. Laura @ prettylittlewords on March 14, 2011 at 3:26 pm

Your biceps look KILLER (not in a gross way) in this vid!!!!

  44. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on March 14, 2011 at 3:27 pm

Your bangs (and nose) are adorable 🙂 Love the video!

And those pancakes look wonderful..especially for a GF mix! GF baking/cooking can be a challenge to get things light and not tasting like sandpaper grit 🙂 so that’s a good recommendation I need to remember!

And Dreamhost being down…Grrr. It’s ALWAYS something with blogs, isn’t it! Writing posts is such a small fraction of what blogging is all about. It’s everything else that takes time. Like photographs. I took 500 food pics this weekend. Not even kidding 🙂

  45. Sana on March 14, 2011 at 3:30 pm

Don’t worry we were all paying attention to your hair! And bahaha, that is what she said 😉

  46. Lynne on March 14, 2011 at 3:36 pm

Love the hair video! And, you look totally beautiful!

    That is all. 🙂

  47. RhodeyGirl on March 14, 2011 at 3:37 pm

I LIVED in that hairdo for a good year while my bangs were growing out senior year in college. Sometimes I did a twist and sometimes I just rolled the one big piece of bang and pinned it.

You have such a cute nose- definitely embrace it!!!!

  48. jen @ taste life on March 14, 2011 at 3:39 pm

Gina, you are so flippin’ cute, and so is your nose! You have nothing to worry about 🙂

    Love the bangs trick!

  49. vicky on March 14, 2011 at 3:39 pm

thanks for the video my daughter and I loved it. Vicky

  50. Stephanie on March 14, 2011 at 3:58 pm

Yeah for the twisty bang video!! I was totally wondering how you did that. Super excited to try a new look!
