{Video Post} Cakes and Bangs

Hi friends–Major apologies for the blog down time this morning. The entire Dreamhost site was down, along with this little blog and many of my friends’ blogs. Blah to that. Looks like everything is back in action, though!

As agitated as I was, there was absolutely nada I could do about it, so I made pancakes 🙂

Used this new-to-me pancake mix for the depths of the pantry:

Maple Grove Farms Gluten-Free Pancake Mix

Usually I’m apprehensive about gluten-free mixes… sometimes they come out super chewy, chalky, or gaggable.

I said a Hail Mary and decided to go for it:

1/4 C mix (1 serving)

1 egg white

almond milk

vanilla

pancake mix

When I cooked up the cakes, I was pleasantly surprised.

gluten-free pancakes with eggs

They got a little brown on the outside, but the inside was fluffy, foodgasmic city.

pancakes

Like REAL pancakes 😀

Baller.

So last week, I did a little twisty thing with my bangs since they were getting too long,

twisty bangs

and  received quite a few comments and emails asking how I did it.

It really ain’t no thang, so I made a little video to explain.

Twisty Bang Hair Tutorial

A pretty way to get your bangs out of your face 😀

(Side note: I almost didn’t post this video because of my nose –I’m super self conscious about it and this angle didn’t work in my favor- but in hopes of trying to embrace the honker, I decided to go for it.)

I’m off on an adventure with the Madre. See ya this afternoon!

xoxo

Gina

Thanks for posting a fun new hairstyle to try out!

You are gorgeous, Gina; I think everyone can agree on that 🙂 It’s so funny how we can all be so self-conscious about certain things that other people either don’t notice or maybe even wish for themselves. Congrats to you for taking steps to embrace all of yourself. 🙂

  5. Katie~ Run For The Bikini on March 14, 2011 at 4:46 pm

I almost didn’t post a side pic of me showing of my green hair ribbon two days ago, cause I’m not a fan of the side view of my nose. But I try to tell myself it is Gisele-esque 🙂 You look beautiful 😀

  6. Maryann (The Balanced Bean) on March 14, 2011 at 4:50 pm

Ive been trying to figure out how to do that for a while! Thanks for the vid–super informative 🙂

  7. Dana Marie on March 14, 2011 at 4:55 pm

      • Dana Marie on March 14, 2011 at 5:01 pm

  8. Maren on March 14, 2011 at 4:56 pm

You are super gorgeous just the way you are!! My mom always tells me I have my dad’s nose (his nose has been broken 7 times!!!) which is not a compliment! But I embrace it 😉

  9. Kath on March 14, 2011 at 4:57 pm

Mine is so not as cool looking as yours. It goes straight back instead of slightly diagonal!? Have to keep practicing.

  10. Stephanie @ Walking my Talk on March 14, 2011 at 4:58 pm

Your nose is lovely as are you! Honestly, after I read that line I had to re-start your video, because I had no idea what you’re talking about.

  11. Amber L on March 14, 2011 at 5:05 pm

Girl, you are craaaaaaaaazy! There is NOTHING wrong with your nose. You are beautiful!!!!!!!! 🙂

  12. Namaste Gurl on March 14, 2011 at 5:05 pm

Cute! I’ll have to give that a try sometime with my hair 🙂

  13. Ashlyn on March 14, 2011 at 5:16 pm

I used to be super self conscious about my nose as well – I have what you could mildly term a ‘Roman nose’. haha, once a friend’s brother asked me when I broke it (never have!). It took me until college to embrace it.

Your nose is lovely – play it up!

  14. Elaine on March 14, 2011 at 5:24 pm

You look beautiful! And I love the twist! Thanks for sharing the tip!

  15. The Teenage Taste on March 14, 2011 at 5:37 pm

  16. Emma (Namaste Everyday) on March 14, 2011 at 5:38 pm

girl, I noticed your nose but I thought to myself, “dang she has such a cute nose!” 🙂 also those pancakes look scrumscious! i made some yesterday and they did not turn out as perfectly as yours did!

  17. Christie on March 14, 2011 at 5:40 pm

Thanks for the video. I bought some little clips that I’ve been using for my long side bangs but this will be a cute change up from that. PS – I didn’t even look at your nose because I was checking out your big GUN (aka your bicep) 🙂

  18. Kelly on March 14, 2011 at 5:47 pm

Awesome…thanks for the tip! I have long side bangs like you used to have so this will be perfect…especially since it is starting to get hot in Texas! 🙂

  19. Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete on March 14, 2011 at 5:51 pm

Thanks for the little tutorial! I used to braid my bangs and pin them back, but I never knew how to do the twist thing. So easy!!

I use Pamela’s baking mixes. I love them, and they are not chalky at all!! When I make pancakes with the mix, my husband says that they actually taste like the real thing. That means a lot coming from him!

  20. Kim @ girlevolving on March 14, 2011 at 5:59 pm

Thanks for the video! I can’t wait to try it!

Also, your arms look so toned and amazing in that video!

  21. Kelli on March 14, 2011 at 6:13 pm

I am going to try my hair like that in the summer. There’s no tank top and shorts weather in Oregon yet. I tried my hair like that last summer, but I didn’t know what I was doing and did a little french braid, and it wasn’t as cute.

Please fall in love with your nose! It is totally pretty.

  22. Sheena on March 14, 2011 at 6:19 pm

I appreciate the bang video. Will def make my life a little easier. You look fabulously you

  23. Tara on March 14, 2011 at 6:42 pm

That’s such a neat way to play up your bangs! Your nose is just fine the way it is, by the way. Every flaw we have makes us unique!

I made an awesome breakfast this morning inspired by pizookies! I’ll be posting it later if you want to check it out.

  24. Lisa on March 14, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Girl you look great from any angle. I voted for your friends- for some reason I thought it said cracker barrel wedding!

  25. Susanne on March 14, 2011 at 7:04 pm

So glad your blog is back up and running again! Thank you for sharing the how-to video. I’ve braided the front of my hair but never thought of twisting it like that. It’s so cute!!! I’ll have to give it a whirl. Honestly, I don’t see any flaws with your nose. You are such a beautiful girl!!!

  26. mary on March 14, 2011 at 7:24 pm

so pretty (YOU and the twist)!

  27. Christena on March 14, 2011 at 7:24 pm

Your nose looks completely normal to me. My sister has always been self-conscious about hers after breaking it three times. She got rhinoplasty and she’s still self conscious, really. You’re so pretty – don’t change a think!

  28. sarah (sarah learns) on March 14, 2011 at 7:30 pm

i love doing that with my hair! 🙂 your hair is so gorgeous and thick – my super thin hair doesn’t ever come out that nicely!

  29. Amy on March 14, 2011 at 7:52 pm

super self conscious about what?! You’re gorgeous! Thanks for sharing, I’m hair stupid, you made this look real easy and it looks really pretty!!!

  30. Christy on March 14, 2011 at 8:36 pm

hey Gina, just want to let you know that I love your nose! I am Chinese and have a flat nose bridge, so no glasses ever stay on me! you’re lovely!

  34. m on March 14, 2011 at 9:18 pm

Eeeeek, you are so so so adorable! Stunning, too, but your personality was just too cute in this one.

  35. Cara Craves... on March 14, 2011 at 9:29 pm

I am just hoping that my bangs are long enough so that I can give this a go!

  36. lian on March 14, 2011 at 9:30 pm

yay ! i’ll have to try this cute hairstyle sometime. thanks !
and…i didn’t notice a THING wrong with your nose, so i don’t even know why you mentioned it 😀 <3

  37. Sarah on March 14, 2011 at 10:14 pm

LOVE the video! my bangs are so long and in my face and i tend to french braid them all the time, the twist looks like a new FUN way to get them out of my face, thanks for the idea!!

  38. Mandy on March 14, 2011 at 10:25 pm

Girlfriend, you are gorgeous!!! I’m gonna try the bang twist tomorrow, I’m glad you shared the vid even tho you were self conscious.

  39. Rachel on March 14, 2011 at 10:40 pm

    LOL! That’s what she said!!!

  40. Rachel on March 14, 2011 at 10:48 pm

And pfffft! on the nose comment, you’re beautiful silly.

  41. Ash on March 14, 2011 at 11:15 pm

LOL that’s funny…I didn’t read the “side-note” under your video until after I watched it.

When I was watching the video, one of the first things that popped into my head was “I REALLY like her nose. It’s pretty…”

Not even kidding. I wouldn’t even have thought it would be something you’re self conscious about! You shouldn’t be! 😉

  42. crys on March 14, 2011 at 11:22 pm

thanks for posting the video! ps- no need to feed self-conscious about your nose 🙂 you are a beauty! hugs!

  43. Sherry on March 15, 2011 at 12:12 am

  45. meghan on March 15, 2011 at 3:14 am

I said “that’s what she said” at the exact same time you did, lol! Great minds think alike.
p.s. your arms are amazing! I really need to start working out more…

  46. Nicole on March 15, 2011 at 8:07 am

Cute hair do! I’ve done the french brain alternative, I’m gonna have to give this twist a try!

  47. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on March 15, 2011 at 8:32 am

I actually have a buckwheat pancake mix by that brand that I forgot I had! I’ll have to dig it out of my pantry and try it!

You have nothing to be self conscious about girl. You’re gorgeous! 😀

  48. nysoonergirl on March 15, 2011 at 9:46 am

You’re absolutely gorgeous with a rocking body… There’s no reason for you to ever be self-conscious!

When I worked as a bank teller, a customer once told me out of the blue “I’m really lucky I don’t have a nose like you.” It was something I had never been concerned about, but immediately caused me to run to the bathroom to examine it. We’ve all got insecurities! 🙂

    • Christin@purplebirdblog on March 15, 2011 at 9:48 pm

I had people say horrible things to me when I was a bank teller too! What’s up with that?!

  49. Katie G. on March 15, 2011 at 10:38 am

Great video Gina!! I’m going to try this tomorrow after the gym!

  50. Jen Correa on March 15, 2011 at 11:20 am
