014: Women’s health and hormones with Candace Burch
Hormones literally rule our world. When theyโre out of balance, they can affect our sleep, mood, appetite, energy, libido, immune system, and so much more. Itโs a delicate act to make sure that our lifestyle and nutrition habits positively affect our hormone levels, and it can be so overwhelming to sort through the information online. Doctors donโt often request thorough hormone level testing, and itโs a significant piece of our overall health.
Iโm so excited for todayโs podcast episode because some MAJOR knowledge was dropped my way and I canโt wait to share it with you. I was fortunate to speak with Candace Burch, who is dedicated to helping women discover and correct hormone imbalances. I talked hormones with Dr. Patrick Flynn in one of my earlier episodes, but thought it would be fun to also share tips and advice from a female hormone specialist.
ย
Here are some of the things that we discuss in this episode:
– What does it mean when you have a hormone imbalance and what can you do to correct it?
– Birth control
– Soy and how it affects hormones. (I know there was some confusion regarding soy sinceย Dr. Flynn and Whitney had conflicting views, so I thought it would be interesting to ask Candace for her thoughts on soy)
– Menopause
– How can we get more sleep (especially if we have young kids)
– The difference between synthetic and bio-identical hormones
– Adrenal fatigue and how exercise affects hormones

What a great episode…once again. It’s a good miw of balance, expertise and real welness. I could relate to everything you described (early birth control, two years before ovulatin…and maybe approaching pre-menopause). Thank you and Candace for this generous sharing of knowledge and healthy advice!
Really enjoyed this episode! This, Dr. Flynn and the postpartum have been my favorites. Thank you for diving into these subjects. I especially feel postpartum and hormones are such an overlooked or ignored topic for women. Iโve learned a lot from your blog over the years and Iโm excited about your new podcast adventure.
thank you so much, micki! i’m so happy you’re enjoying the episodes. thank you for listening <3
This was so interesting to me! I shared it with a lot of ladies in my life. I was curious and wished she touched on the hormones with pregnancy and post partum, lactation etc. Also, how/if the hormone filled fertility treatments effect things long term, or how to balance out their side effects. Really enjoying your podcasts Gina, keep it up!
