The Pilot’s famous lasagna

Buddy the Elf!

Buddy the elf

I KNOW HIM.

(The Pilot took that pic while Buddy was screaming in my face, and I was laughing hysterically. He then hugged me and asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s your favorite color?”)

Winterywonderland

We went to check out Winter Wonderland at Petco Park, and had a blast. Liv was totally awestruck by the gorgeous light displays, characters, and fun activities. She kept saying, โ€œThis is amazing!”

We went kind of late after her nap, but know to go earlier next year; there is so much to do and see. They had ice sledding, a train, photos with Santa, the Frozen cast, and a very realistic Grinch. It was fantastic!

Before our little adventure, the Pilot decided to make lasagna. Apparently he was the lasagna king back in the day, and had yet to make his lasagna for Liv and myself. He decided to whip out his beloved recipe and I was excited to drink wine and prepare for the blanket of carb-y goodness.

Pilot lasagna 1 of 1

My contribution: the sauce. Homemade marinara is the best. I used onion, garlic, a little wine, basil, rosemary, oregano, San Marzano tomatoes, a pinch of sugar, salt and pepper.

Everything.

We usually tag-team the kitchen (if I cook, he cleans the mess haha), and itโ€™s always a special treat when the Pilot cooks dinner. Who does most of the cooking in your house? Do you have a specialty, or does your partner make something that you particularly love??

Hope you have a great night!!

xoxo

Winter Wonderland sounds fun!!! I love that Liv kept saying “This is amazing!!” so funny when little people sounds like grown-ups ๐Ÿ™‚ What a great memory for her! I agree that it is ALWAYS a special treat when my guy makes dinner. We usually tag-team in the kitchen the same way you and Tom do, but I love it when I can kick my feet up and have a glass of wine while he makes us dinner! He is the salmon master and can really make some awesome stuff! Most recently, this amazing roasted salmon with a grapefruit ginger reduction, paired with sauteed brocollini,a steamedsweet potato and of course red wine – obvi!! Glad to see we both get a night off sometimes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Haha, who cleaned the dishes? Worst part of cooking. That lasagna. looks like a masterpiece, I swear everything comes together once you add the cheese.

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2014 at 3:42 pm

i did! haha. you’re totally right! it doesn’t look like much until you add the cheese and bake it. then, it’s perfect!

What a stud making that lasagna! Once I had foot surgery and my dad came to stay with us while I recovered. I had planned to make lasagna before he arrived to reheat for all of us, but I never got around to it. So my husband had to make the whole thing and slaved away for over an hour. But it turned out great and gave him a lot of confidence in the kitchen, so it’s a win all around. ๐Ÿ™‚ Other than that, my husband is the chili king!

Love the winter wonderland! So magical!

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2014 at 3:43 pm

hahah right?! it’s so hot when men cook ๐Ÿ˜‰
that is so awesome that your hubby stepped in and saved the lasagna day ๐Ÿ™‚

Yum! Haven’t had lasagna in forever, but it is the time of year that I start making my family’s sauce recipe, so this is making me want to get on that! Did he make one with meat and one without?

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2014 at 3:42 pm

ahhhh it was so good! yes, one had ground turkey and one was cheese only

  5. Jen on December 16, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Yummy! We made lasagna right before baby! It was glorious. The hubs and I split cooking duties when we are both working, right now I’m enjoying quicky cooking for my lil fam. My husband was born in Mexico, he can make any Mexican dish – far better than where we can eat (and we live in Chicago – sooooooooo much Mexican food here, good Mexican food) – but nothing is better than his goodies homemade! I’m a lucky chica ๐Ÿ˜‰ His enchiladas are to die for.

I love a good lasagna! We split up kitchen duties too. We split cooking just about 50/50 and whoever cooks get to relax while the other cleans. It’s really nice to have a team approach in the kitchen, and around the house, in general. Makes things a lot easier.

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2014 at 10:22 pm

i totally agree. it makes things run more smoothly, especially with a little one running around ๐Ÿ™‚

Looks good! My hubby and I switch on and off. I do the nightly easy stuff and he takes on the weekend meals with more prep. Works out good for me. When he cooks, I also sit back with a glass of wine and watch. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Cate on December 16, 2014 at 4:45 pm

My husband cooks almost every meal, and I sit at the bar and act as if I am watching a cooking show. I always clean up after the meal. He is a better chef and I am a more thorough cleaner, so it works well.

You’ve definitely got a keeper there, Gina! ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s great that the two of you split up the kitchen stuff. I’m currently a single gal but cooking abilities are a must for my dating prospects! (And if he doesn’t like to cook, I’d still consider him if he’s cool with doing the dishes!)

My boyfriend and I like to make dinner and clean up together. But sometimes it just depends on circumstances.

  11. Livi @ Pray, Work It Out on December 16, 2014 at 5:07 pm

    I love Elf!!! So cute!
My boyfriend and I usually cook dinner together even though we don’t live together. It’s always fun! Whoever cooks doesn’t have to clean!

  12. Danica @ It's Progression on December 16, 2014 at 5:13 pm

For whatever reason, I’ve never made lasagna because it intimidates me, but I love it! I really need to try. You should get the Pilot to share his recipe ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2014 at 10:20 pm

i’m not sure if he knows the exact recipe, but i’ll ask him. lots of cheese is involved ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Jessica on December 16, 2014 at 5:35 pm

Winter Wonderland looks amazing! As did the lasagna!

We take turns cooking! Our favorite meal that I make is homemade pizza and his speciality is filet (with a special onion and mushroom sauce for the top), sweet potatoes and spinach! Yum!

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2014 at 10:19 pm

      that sounds glorious!

I think I’m getting ripped off as I do all the cooking and I do the dishes as well!
I used to make lasagne but haven’t made one for a while.
Lovely family photo of you all! ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Lizzie @ The Magic Tree on December 16, 2014 at 6:59 pm

That lasagna is making me hungry! I definitely do most of the cooking, but it’s because I enjoy it and love taking care of my boyfriend (since he’s the one that works long days). He is also super easy to please which makes cooking that much more fun. I also end up doing most of the dishes…reading these comments, I’m thinking I need to change that haha.

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2014 at 10:19 pm

      hahah!

  17. Marlene @Fitdelight on December 16, 2014 at 7:57 pm

That lasagna looks deeelicious! I do most of the cooking while my husband does the clean up but this weekend I wasn’t feeling well so he stepped it up in the kitchen . He made easy food but it was still so helpful ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2014 at 10:18 pm

Same with my family but it’s the guys who are clones! In looks and personality!!

  20. melissa on December 16, 2014 at 10:22 pm

Admittedly Matt does most of the day to day cooking! He’s creative and very good at it! I’m more of the “baker” in the house, though I can dominate some italian cooking when the mood strikes (good thing since I’m italian. ..haha).

  21. Angelica on December 16, 2014 at 11:12 pm

My bf definitely picks up the slack whenever I’m too busy to cook and he makes the BEST scrambled eggs but I usually make the nicer/more complicated meals. He’s also much better at cleaning than I am but we like to do the dishes together and sing or just make random words up ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Britt on December 17, 2014 at 5:48 am

When my dad was out of work for 18 months he started cooking. His corn and crab chowder is right from heaven!! His pizza is amazing too! The pilots lasagna looks amazing!!!!! I’m a sucker for anything with a ton of cheese!!!

Lol “This is amazing!” … so cute! I’m sooooo jealous that you know Buddy!!

Sadly it would not be pretty if I let my husband take over cooking duty!! I think I better keep him on dishes! That’s so awesome to get a break from fixing dinner without having to go out for it. Looks yummy, too!

  26. Crystal on December 17, 2014 at 11:40 am

That lasagna looks amazing! I usually prefer to cook, because it’s my favorite hobby, and my husband doesn’t mind the cleanup, ha. But I do love when he gets up on the weekends to make breakfast for me ๐Ÿ™‚

Hubs does all the grilling, I do all the indoor dinners and sides. It ends up being a maybe me 3 days a week and him 2 or 3 and out a night or two. Fairly equal. As a side note, finally tried the apothic wine that you always talk about/drink on here. Yummy! Tastes like a much more expensive wine was the hub’s comment.
