Family: Weeks 19-21

21 week belly shot:

21 weeks 1 of 1

Random thoughts/things I noticed:

Itโ€™s been fun to go back and see how things have changed from this pregnancy to my previous one. I rarely post bare belly pics on here -and I totally get it if you think pregnancy bellies are weird haha- and took these this past week. Turns out, I did the same thing around the same time last pregnancy. Still amazed by how different the frontal view is from the side view.

Front:

then BOOM!

Watch out for that thing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

-Baby is kicking and moving up a storm, and itโ€™s the best ever. If I could be pregnant and feel baby kicks all the time, that would be ok with me. (But then I think about the end result of being surrounded by angry newborns, and Iโ€™m good. haha) Iโ€™ve been drinking sparkling water and club soda throughout the day, and love to feel her dance around afterwards. Iโ€™m officially one of those pregnant ladies who is always touching and rubbing her belly. Baby will kick me, and Iโ€™ll gently rub back to say โ€œHi.โ€ Itโ€™s our little dance that continues throughout the day.

-I initially had some info here about chiropractors I had found in San Diego, and I was so excited about it, but the day after I wrote this post (the day after my adjustment), I was debilitatingly sore. I’ve talked to a few people about it, and apparently it’s normal, but I was far more sore than I’d ever been. Thankfully, it was gone in about 4 days.

Awkward pregnancy moments:

I was getting dressed quickly to head to the gym, and I grabbed a baggy U of A tank top to wear while I walked on the treadmill. That is, it was ONCE baggy. I passed a gym mirror and noticed my belly was hanging out of the bottom of the tank top = accidental pregnancy half crop top. Not a style I recommend.

The server at the wedding. She was so sweet (and brought me extra gluten-free cornbread), and kept asking if I wanted wine, since they had magical glasses that kept refilling. I sipped my club soda and politely declined at least 4 times. She came back again, and I wanted to tell her that the smell of the wine alone was making me want to cry, but I said, โ€œI would love to have some, but canโ€™t right now because Iโ€™m pregnant. Thank you so much, though!โ€ She winked at me and filled my glass TO THE BRIM. Whyyyyyyy are you teasing me, lady?

Maybe itโ€™s the fact that my gym and teaching environment is different now, but I havenโ€™t even received a fraction of the weird comments that I got while I was pregnant with Liv. I feel like I was offended at least once a day, either by someone rubbing my belly and simultaneously asking if I was having twins, or someone walking by to tell me how โ€œhugeโ€ I was. Maybe Iโ€™m not as sensitive to that type of thing, but it also hasnโ€™t happened at all. And now that I said that, Iโ€™ll probably get a zinger this week haha.

Workout: Still teaching Zumba, Spin, Barre and BODYPUMP, and taking a break for OTF classes until my placenta moves up. I really miss it, but have been enjoying getting in activity through teaching and long treadmill walks. Itโ€™s been pretty relaxing to read and walk, or meet up with a friend for a chat and stroll.

Weight gain: 14 lbs. (<– edited because the gym scale said 17 lbs, but the midwives scaled which I’ve been using the entire time said 14 lbs. I’m going with that one haha.) Like last time, I think I tend to gain more initially and it eventually tapers off.

Belly button status: Long gone. Still not quite pushing outie territory. The dark line down my belly also hasnโ€™t appeared yet, but will probably be showing its face again sometime soon.

Reading now:

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. I didnโ€™t emphasize breastfeeding reading much last time -I was way too scared about labor and trying to get prepared for that- so this time Iโ€™m switching my focus more towards preparing for after baby arrives. Iโ€™ll still re-read some favorites about labor/birth, and brush up on our Bradley Method books and binder, but am really more concerned about getting breastfeeding knowledge and support, and making the transition a positive experience for Liv.

Excited for: our Hawaii trip, and making another day trip to Disney before baby arrives. Liv will also be coming with me to my next midwife appointment -flu season is over, so kids are allowed again- and I canโ€™t wait for her to hear the heartbeat with me.

xoxo

Gina

You look great! I can’t believe how high up you are carrying (I only have myself to compare it too and baby boy has been super low since the beginning.)

I lol’ed at the pregnancy crop top. I was wearing a workout top yesterday that was definitely too short and I didn’t realize it until I felt the skin from my belly hanging out underneath it.

I also gained pretty quickly, and then it leveled off. I gained 19.5 lbs by 24 weeks, and have gained a pound in the three weeks since then (and I’ve been eating the same and exercising less!)

yes, i carried so high last time, too!!
it’s funny how the weight gain varies so much.
      xoxo!

In a discussion with mom friends one friend suggested saying nicely “I’m surprised you feel comfortable saying that” when someone makes a rude comment. That way if they weren’t meaning to be rude at least they can realize it was and hopefully think before they speak the next time. I also get the crazy comments from cashiers at grocery store. They seem to love to give parenting advice and opinions haha.

Hi Gina! Ahahha crop topping it at the gym? Hey, it happens. ๐Ÿ™‚ And that’s great that you aren’t feeling as offended this time around. Having never been pregnant, I can’t sympathize, but I’m sure it’s uncomfortable for people to constantly want to touch your belly or talk about it. You look great. And so glad you’re staying active and found a good chiro! Have a fabulous day! ๐Ÿ™‚

You look gorgeous! I took my baby to Good Vibrations when he was a newborn as my lactation consultant recommended them for additional help with my baby’s latch. They are great. I know another awesome pregnancy chiro in Hillcrest if you ever decide to switch it up. Also, my Saturday plans have changed so I might be able to take your yoga class if there are still openings. How do I get the info on that?

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2015 at 5:33 pm

i would love their info- thank you!!!

Hubby and I just found out that we’re expecting our first ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve spent the past few days re-reading your first trimester updates for both pregnancies. Super helpful and very reassuring since we’re feeling a lot of the same things.

      ahhh so excited for you!!

Iโ€™ve never been pregnant nor have I been around someone who is pregnant, so I am never quite sure what will offend someone who is pregnant! Iโ€™d love to read your thoughts on what is/isnโ€™t okay. Also, you are on of the cutest pregnant ladies I have โ€œseen!โ€ I am glad to hear everything is going well so far. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2015 at 5:32 pm

thank you so much! usually touching without asking and making any comments about size is weird. other than that, when people ask how you’re feeling or say you look great, it’s a nice warm fuzzy

  13. Yaara Leve on June 4, 2015 at 8:21 pm

Gina, you look amazing! Seriously girl! You look so damn good! From the front you don’t look pregnant at all. And you’re still super teeny everywhere else. I love your baby kicking comment! So cute! So excited to keep reading about your journey!

you are a sweet angel. thank you!

The womanly art of breastfeeding is awesome, I think it’s more than just a breastfeeding guide and recommend it to everyone. another tip is follow or like ‘the milk meg’ on Facebook, she is a wonderful lactation consultant and her posts are so so supportive and empowering, they’ve got me through many tough nights!

    • Emily on June 5, 2015 at 6:27 am

I agree with AJ. The womanly are of breastfeeding is awesome, I read it with my first son and again when I was pregnant with my twins. I didn’t discover the milk meg though until my twins were born, but it ended up being a lifesaver for me when we were having difficulties latching. I can’t recommend the laidback breastfeeding video enough if you are having troubles with latch!

      • Fitnessista on June 5, 2015 at 5:29 pm

        so awesome. thank you!!!

I was so sick I gained only 15 pounds my entire pregnancy (lost 10lbs) and I’m built like you but luckily a healthy 7 and a half pound baby popped out!

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2015 at 5:30 pm

it’s crazy how that happens sometimes! sorry to hear you were so sick

  17. Liz on June 5, 2015 at 5:39 am

The waitress poured you a glass of wine after you told her you were pregnant?? How weird!

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2015 at 5:30 pm

      YES. i was like why?!?!?!?!

  18. Jillian on June 8, 2015 at 11:38 am

Hi! It’s been fun following your second pregnancy. Congrats!

I’m very newly pregnant and I was wondering what your favorite gluten-free pregnancy foods are. I’ve only reduced gluten in the last few weeks, and I have no idea if it helped me get pregnant (after a long struggle with infertility), but I’d love to hear more about your experiences with a gluten-free diet since I am wondering if it is worth continuing to try to eat this way. I also read in one of your old posts that you eat mostly gluten-free. Can you elaborate on how you navigate that? Thanks so much in advance!

    • Fitnessista on June 8, 2015 at 2:38 pm

when i’m at home, i almost always eat gluten-free. if we’re out and about, i’ll have some gluten here and there. i found that it has the biggest impact on me when it’s a cumulative effect. if i have gluten a few days in a row, i start to feel pretty terrible; my digestion slows down and i feel bloated/uncomfortable.

I would love to hear some of your pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, or parenting book recommendations! ๐Ÿ™‚ I am 21 weeks and have loved following your pregnancy.

So love reading these posts!!! Almost at 21 weeks and the bump is finally popping out. I’ve gained 17lbs so far which seems like so much! I swear most has been in my legs and rear, which I was not expecting. My pants were all fitting great and then overnight (a few weeks ago) everything spread! Haha — Hunger hasn’t actually been too crazy (worse in first tri actually!) but definitely eating more. Just don’t let me get to the point of being hangry…haha

    • Fitnessista on August 18, 2016 at 11:49 am

hahah when i was pregnant hangry, it was the scariest thing for everyone around me
