Weeks 25-27
*All of my second pregnancy updates can be found on the Family tag above, and are also categorized by trimester <3
Bumpinโ along!
27 weeks:
Random thoughts/ things I noticed:
-I continue to be obsessed with baby kicks. I just walk around rubbing my belly all day, and savoring the movements. Itโs funny because I used to think a baby in my belly would be like having an alien in there. Itโs not like that at all. Thereโs something so magical about having a little buddy with you all the time, and the tiny games you can play gently pushing against each other, and having never met. Itโs pretty incredible! I keep wondering what sheโll look like, too. When I was pregnant with Liv, I had dreams about her and saw her face, and she ended up looking exactly like that. Iโm still waiting to have some dreams where I can see this babyโs face. Iโve had some about when sheโs older, but none in the newborn phase.
-Itโs been an interesting couple of weeks with insurance stuff. I feel very blessed to have medical care and insurance, but it was a little bit alarming when I got a phone call last week stating that I needed to go to an entirely different provider and deliver at a different hospital, even though my care through the midwives was previously approved (and had to be authorized before they would let me make a first appointment). It was a little stressful since theyโre monitoring my low placenta, and since I was basically in provider limbo, my ultrasound to get it checked was denied. Iโm confident that it will all work out, and have been making a ton of phone calls, but Iโll be thankful when this is all taken care of. One of the biggest things that I learned from yoga teacher training was to look at challenges as an opportunity to grow, so this is just a small bump in the road.
-Gestational diabetes test is done! Last time, Iโm pretty sure the liquid was clear, and this time it was NEON ORANGE. I asked if they had a clear option, and they didnโt, so I got to chug this stuff…
(I pictured it staining my organs as it went down.)
The first couple of sips were pretty delicious, but after that, it was pretty gnarly. That is a LOT of sugar! The hardest part was sitting around for two hours after the test, but thankfully, I passed, which is all that really matters. And, things that make no sense: afterwards, I went to Whole Foods for a gluten-free COOKIE. A cookie. I guess I was mad that I had to consume that much sugar and it wasnโt even the delicious kind of sugar.
-I feel like my face looks pregnant when Iโm pregnant. After Liv was born, it went back to normal in a couple of months. My face is now pregnant again. Does this happen to anyone else? Also, while I continue to grow, Tom is continuing to bulk and shred because heโs on month 5 of an intense strength training program. Thanks a lot, Pilot. ๐
-Wondering if we need to do anything extra to prepare for birth. Iโve been brushing up on my Bradley Method books (we did Bradley Method classes with our first pregnancy), Your Best Birth and Ina Mayโs amazing books, and have an awesome doula. One thing I really didnโt do for our first pregnancy was read or study anything about C-sections. In my dream world, a second intervention-free birth would be awesome, but if things progress to a C-section route, I think I want to be better-prepared for that possible scenario. Fellow mamas: what did you do differently to prepare for a second birth? Was your second birth similar to your first, or entirely different?
-Workout-wise, things are still going well! My second trimester workout update will be up next week, but Iโve been sticking with my teaching schedule and reducing some of my weights for BODYPUMP. Walking on the treadmill is still painful with my hip flexor and round ligament pain, but BODYPUMP, Barre, and Spin still feel fantastic. It always feels good to move and get some endorphins in! As my schedule winds down over the next couple of months, Iโll be getting back into my own workouts (TRX and Kettlebell) and am going to try 21dayfix or PiYo. <โ my coach link, since so many have asked me for it! (If I do either of these programs, Iโll post all of the pregnancy modifications that I use!)
-Maternity wear faves:
Dl1962 maternity jeans (I have a dark pair and white pair <โ on super sale that are amazing. Three cheers for elastic waistbands!)
Tunics and loose-fitting tanks
Maxi dresses or tunic shirt-style dresses
These Target sports bras. The best!
Belly button status: Long gone, and pushing out! Looks like outie is on the way.
Cravings:
Fruit
Pizza
Midnight Moon goat cheese (from Whole Foods. Try it. So good.)
Banana pudding or pie
Aversions:
Super spicy food (gives me heartburn and I usually love it!)
Raw bell peppers
Pickles (itโs funny because I was obsessed with them in my first trimester and right now I donโt love them)
Looking forward to:
-Our next ultrasound, which will be our last one if all looks good!
-One more family vacay to Tucson before baby is here
-Getting the belly henna tattooed ๐
Keep on growing, little one <3 We love you so much.
xoxo
Gina
You look great!
I’ve yet to have any dreams about what our son will look like. I had one bizarre labor dream where I felt zero pain and my husband was the one having contractions and hooked up to machines.
I liked that dream.
that is amazing
Hey Gina! Great post, glad to hear that everything is going well ๐
Question: Did you still use your Snoogle when you weren’t pregnant?
no! tom put “the barrier” in storage haha. also, i was just so excited to sleep on my stomach again
Definitely a good idea to research c-sections and be mentally prepared for the unexpected. My first labour was relatively quick and easy so everyone, including me, was prepared for the second to be even faster. IT WAS NOT! It’s a long story and I avoided a c-section but I was really shell shocked by the experience because I hadn’t mentally prepared for anything other than the normal pain. So my takeaway from the second labour is prepare for all outcomes but hope for the best. I have a happy, healthy 3 month old and she was worth it but just writing this makes me feel sick. I neglected fitness and pregnancy yoga the second time round though so I think that didn’t help. I think you will be absolutely fine. You look super healthy and glowing!!!!
it’s so crazy how much experiences can differ across pregnancies. happy to hear you are all doing well. thank you!
Your face doesn’t look pregnant. You look absolutely terrific!!!
aww thank you, lovely
Not sure what you mean by pregnant face, but you glow! And i agree, at least reading up on c/s seems like a good idea. I had one with my first and I was not prepared at all. I struggled with accepting it for a long time afterwards. Second was a vbac, and he turns one next Tuesday! ๐
time flies! thank you so much- i will definitely read up on it
I am 26 weeks and have had ZERO dreams where I have had a baby- kinda strange! I’ve been craving pizza, mexican food and lemonade! Also thank you for recommending the Bradley Method- I’m going to check it out.
hope you love it as much as we did <3
How are you already 6 months pregnant? I feel like time is flying!! I’m so glad pregnancy is going so well for you!
almost 7! so crazy! thank you, friend
I love how active you are while rocking that cute bump! I nearly died when I was told to slow it down on account of carrying my twins. As a fitness instructor/trainer myself, I was appalled that my doctor would tell me to slow down on what I did everyday. But hey, you do anything for your littles right? Thanks for sharing your baby carrying fun!
Strive to thrive,
Em
Ok….you are kinda making me want another baby!! Stop it!! I had a c-section with my 2nd…(it was planned bc she had some complications) the best thing was that my husband was able to take 6 weeks off which was a huge help since I couldn’t pick up my 1st baby (2.5 at the time) for awhile. Also, if you do need a c-section there are about 20 people in the room and you are laying there naked from the waist down. They put some antibacterial stuff on you then have to wait 3 minutes until they do anything (might be different if emergency c-section) so basically you are pretty exposed and everyone is standing around waiting. If I had known that I might have ummm….done a better job grooming….down there….if you know what I mean. But since you can’t see/reach that for the last few months….kinda tough. Anyways, hope you have a smooth delivery, but might be good to have some help planned for Livi, just in case! Other than that the recovery was fine, have a scar now but no big deal ๐
happy to know that you had a good recovery! thankfully my mom and nana are coming out, so they’ll be able to help a lot with liv
haha good to know about the grooming, too! happy to have an awesome waxer here hahah
the comment about the cookie cracked me up! ๐ i feel like i would so do that, but eat hald the cookie, a salad or something,… then shove rest of said cookie into my face ๐
and i dont think you have a “pregnant” looking face at all! you definitely are glowing though ๐ i hope everything continues to go well!!
what is the pilot doing now?
I think you look amazing! I don’t see a “pregnancy face” at all.
You look so great and I can’t believe you are at 27 weeks! I don’t see a pregnancy face at all!!
What an inspiration you are for fit and healthy pregnancies!
I would love to send you some of our maternity activewear to try. It has built-in belly support that may really help with your round ligament pain. Let me know if you’re interested.
You look gorgeous and healthy! I’ve been a fan of yours for a long time ๐
My first son was a hard but quick 6 hour labor. My second son had a plan of his own! I found out he was breech at a routine 38 week appointment. Long story short we had a game plan in place which involved monitoring and trying an inversion. He decided he was ready to come the next day. I went to the hospital just to get “checked” and ended up with a c-section about 6 hours later. Was not prepared for that at all! Scared the living daylights out of me since I had no knowledge except what they were spewing at me before go time. I highly recommend reading up on it and having a plan in place for afterwards. A much different recovery. The hardest part for me was only going up and down the stairs once a day for about 2 weeks! Good luck!!
Love these updates, you are rockin’ round #2 like no other!!!! So, i just started doing PiYo and I think it would be the perfect workout when pregnant. This is my first “beach body” experience and I have to say I am noticing some good results (toning) pretty quickly! I would love to hear what you think about it if you try it out!
Looking great mama! It’s so much fun to see your progress since I’m only 3 weeks ahead of you! Good luck with the insurance stuff… yuck! No fun!
I feel your pain with the insurance company. I’m going round and round with them and my doctor’s office as well – the doctor’s office is the problem child though as it seems they don’t quite understand military insurance. I know everything will work out but I hate how long it takes.
Good luck! You’re looking fabulous!
You look so beautiful!!!! XO – gina (from Mass)
What fitness program is the Pilot on? I want my boyfriend to bulk and shred haha
it’s through bodybuilding.com
You look gorgeous!! I would definitely recommend reading up on the C-section, just to be armed with the knowledge. I really wanted an intervention-free birth and didn’t read anything on the medical side of things, which turned out to be a big mistake since I ended up having to have a C-Section. I was completely unprepared for the procedure and the recovery, which was a real pain. Looking back I really wish I’d done at least a little research so I would have been more prepared!
that’s why i think it’s important. i think i would be more afraid going into it if i had no idea what to expect
I didn’t realize I had ‘pregnant face’ until afterwards and went back and looked at pictures. I didn’t feel like it looked like that at the time though and nobody ever mentioned it!
Question about Tom’s strength training… My husband has recently started to exercise and getting into weights but he isn’t sure what muscle groups to do when / how often , etc. Could you share his routine or a routine or point me in the direction of some good routine for men?
i asked tom to write a guest post about it, so maybe he can do it next week. he’s been doing programs from bodybuilding.com.
I clicked on the 21dayfix/PiYo link and went to your Beach Body page. I’d love to know more about this. I’m in a bit of a work out rut and need a new “program” that I can do at home. (If I have to come up with the work out, it won’t happen.) What’s the benefit of signing up for something like this?
the major benefits are that you can do it from home, they give you a schedule, and you can do it on your own time. i did the beach body workouts a LOT while we were in valdosta, because there weren’t a lot of classes and i felt bored with my routine. if you have any questions i can help with, shoot me an email (fitnessista at gmail)
xoxo
Do you know Bethenny Frankel from the real housewives of New York? Totally random, but when she was pregnant her face DEFINITELY looked pregnant. She still looked great and looked fab while she got married while pregnant, but be grateful you’re not on national tv while pregnant! Although your face definitely doesn’t look pregnant!
LOL I just wrote the same thing in a new post. Ditto everything you wrote.
I definitely remember that time!
i actually thought of that, too. she looked totally different (still gorgeous) while pregnant
You’re looking fabulous!!! ๐ I hope I can be as fit and healthy as you someday when I get pregnant!
That is SUCH a pain about your insurance. I’m so sorry to hear that happened – why must they make it so complicated, lol. You have the right attitude about it, though – it IS only a small bump in the road! My fingers are crossed that it will be resolved easily!
aww, thank you!
it’s funny because after i posted this, i got a phone call saying they finally received all the paperwork i asked the midwife to fax over and was approved. YES! thanks for the good vibes- they worked!
AWESOME! ๐
OMG, yes, I totally get pregnant face! I think it’s the thing I dislike most about being pregnant. My face puffed up so quickly with my 2nd baby and then took longer to go down after. ๐ You look adorable!
You look absolutely beautiful!! I haven’t been pregnant before, but when I gain weight, it definitely goes to my cheeks.
same. it goes to my faces and my arms first. i’m like why can’t you go to my boobs haha
I had to scroll up to your face pics to see if your face was pregnant-looking LOL I swear, I cannot tell the difference but maybe in real life it is different. You look your usual gorgeous self ๐
But I do remember from Bravo’s “Bethenny Ever After,” Bethenny Frankel’s face *definitely* looked pregnant. Even so, I thought it was mama-to-be beautiful.
haha thank you friend.
and YES. she always looks amazing, but did look different while preg
Such a beautiful glow, lady! #futurefitpregnancygoals hahah!
aww, thank you lovely!
