Raw vegan tart crust
Hey friends hey How’s your day going?? Are you busy prepping for tomorrow?
I am, while Tucker watches from the imaginary line to the kitchen that he’s not allowed to cross.
(My little bro put his candy cane collar on him last night)
Tucker has been giving me lots of puppy kisses lately since I miss my own fur children… and I busted my lip open last night.
I went to an AMAZING Zumba class at Breakout Studios –if you’re in the Tucson area, definitely check out a class there!!- and when I got home, the door was locked and I was going to sit in the car and call my mom to open the door. I got back to the rental car and flung the door open, turned my head, and said door went into my face.
At least this turned out right, eh??
The tart crust recipe is the perfect base for any raw tart. Feel free to fill it with raw strawberry mouse, blueberry cheezecake or in this case, chocolate foodgasms.
The filling recipe will be up soon
Raw Tart Crust
+ 1 t almond extract, or any fun flavored extract
1. Measure the almonds, then in the VitaMixalicious or a food processor, grind into a fine flour.
2. Add the dates and chop with the almonds.
3. In a large mixing bowl, add the maple syrup (you can also you agave, but my brother urged me not to since they’ve banned it at Canyon Ranch), almond/date mixture, melted coconut oil, vanilla, coconut, sea salt and fun extract (optional- I used almond). Add in about 1/2 C more coconut if you need it- this mixture was a little too wet.
4. Press the mixture into a large tart pan, or mini tart pans and dehydrate for 1 hour at 105 degrees. If you don’t have a dehydrator, place the tart crust in the oven on the lowest setting for 30 minutes.
I made the crust last night while we all chatted in the kitchen, listened to Christmas music, and drank Rice Nog.
Plan for the day:
-Breakfast with a friend
-Grocery shopping with madre and nana
-Shopping and Indian with my bro and his girlfriend
-Drinks and dinner with a friend (a squadron wife)
-Dance
See ya later today <3
xoxo,
Gina
Something to talk about: What are you contributing to the feast tomorrow?? Does your family have any fun Thanksgiving traditions? My family eats, plays golf (the girls either walk with everyone and take pics, or stay in the warm house, drink coffee and chat) and then plays poker
I didn’t even know Rice Nog existed!! Is it any healthier than regular egg nog? It sounds like you have a great day and T-day coming up. It’s not Thanksgiving in Canada, but all of you US bloggies are making me feel like celebrating! 🙂
Dessert! I still haven’t decided what I’m taking yet. Need to get on that.
Tucker is too adorable!!! And I love that he is getting in the Holiday spirit with his collar 🙂
I am bringing a big bowl of fruit to Thanksgiving brunch tomorrow — I wanted to bring something but they didn’t “need” for me to bring anything. Usually Jason and I bring the Capt. Morgan Rum Pumpkin Pies 🙂 We’ve decided to wait until Christmas to make them.
Have a nice Holiday Gina!
I love it when dogs get into the holiday spirit! 🙂
Tucker is so cute. How old is he?
Sorry about your lip!
I am making the pumpkin/peanut butter cake/pie thing I made the other day to take to Thanksgiving tomorrow! 🙂
That crust looks yummy, especially since I have a huge bag of coconut to use.
I’m having Thanksgiving with my friends/friends of friends/random French people, and I am bringing sweet potatoes. People feel entitled to tell me what kind of sweet potatoes to bring (MASHED). Um…I’m not your mother–if you want to special request potato dishes, then GO HOME.
Also, I just learned about this airline that flies pets in the cabin! http://petairways.com/ I didn’t look at the pricing, but at least it’s nice to know the option is out there! 🙂
i’m contributing my beautiful face to thanksgiving. hopefully that’ll be enough hahah
Oh no! I hope your lip heels. Tuckers is so incredibly cute. My dog does the same thing! If I banish him from the kitchen, he sneaks back in and sits under a chair where he thinks I can’t see him.
I’m doing rosemary roasted chickpeas and assorted cheeses for the appetizers and a pumpkin pie for dessert. Oh and vino =)
I’m making a healthy pumpkin pie and green bean casserole! Thanksgiving tends to be all over the place (this year, I’m spending it with my brother and SIL while the rents are somewhere tropical… I know right) 🙂 so I think I’m going to get up early (before they wake up) to do an Insanity workout, then after dinner we’ll probably go for a long walk and either go to the movies or watch ELF. Either way, we’re watching ELF this weekend! 🙂 We usually start the Christmas movie watching after Thanksgiving deener.
My family always plays LCR after feasting…. It is so much fun!!
Have an amazing day 🙂
I’m making EVERYTHING! It’s just me and the hubby this year, so I’m making everything that needs to be made– and decided to let Honeybaked do the “dirty work” for me this year with the turkey and gravy. 😉 Luckily, my husband actually prefers a lot of “boxed” versions (stuffing and mashed potatoes), so his meal will be easy… I’ll just have to make the stuff I like from scratch! I’m trying a millet bread stuffing and coconut-milk-based pumpkin ice cream this year, so I’m excited!!
Oh, and we ALWAYS eat our big meal in the afternoon, then go to a holiday movie at the theater! This year, we’re excited to see Tangled! (then come home and munch on leftovers!)
No bueno about the lip! Hopefully you’re healing well!
I’m contributing basically everything for Turkey day this year : )
The hubbs is doing a smoked turkey so the “main” dish is on him, but all the apps, sides, and dessert ~ that’s all me! This is only our 2nd time ever away from home for thanksgiving, so I kinda go all out to compensate for not being able to spend the day with family. : )
First, Tucker is adorable. He reminds me of a dog I had growing up and of the dog I have now, only the blonde version. 😉
Second, I’m contributing rolls to one feast (store-bought frozen dough that I’ll bake in the morning) and dessert to the other. I made pecan bars and pumpkin pie with a graham cracker crust. I’ve never made pie before, so this was huge for me!
We don’t really have any traditions. It seems the routine is always changing. We (my little bro and I) used to spend it with my dad and his side of the family at their house, watch football, eat and play a game (my cousin and I dominated the family in Taboo!). But now we (my fiance and I) split time between our families–my dad and his family, my mom and stepdad and my fiance’s family. Everyone wants us to be with them, and we want to be with everyone, but it’s SO hard. We live out of state now, too, which makes our time and energy and patience so much more limited.
I’m looking forward to it, though, because it’s been almost two months since I’ve seen my mom. 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving, Gina!
Ouch on the lip. Hopefully it won’t get in the way of enjoying yummy Thanksgiving meals…like that tart!
i was a little confused when you were talking about prepping for tomorrow, but then i rememeber its Thanksgiving for you guys, we already had thankgiving in October (canada)
have a great one!
My mom just walked into the room and said, “Kailey, what’s wrong?” She heard my whimpering over the cuteness that is Tucker.
Tomorrow I am contributing…I have no idea yet. Maybe cookie dough balls!
I’m making—and transporting—lentils for 20 people…I was in charge of the “vegetarian option” this year, and I figured a lentil & sweet potato salad would travel well on a bus.
Where do you get Indian food in the Tucson area?
I have yet to find a good place.
we went to a place yesterday that was HORRIBLE, but check out new delhi on broadway and jessica- it’s awesome
i know what i’m making for dessert…thank goodness my mom sent her recipe just in time! this sounds like an amazing raw tart though…yum!
Ouch about your lip! Gah sometimes those are the worst injuries…so small, but they hurt!!
Love Tucker’s collar 🙂 He’s such a cutie!
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear about the lip!! I busted mine open once by running up the stairs in tights and landing flat on my face at a Christmas Eve party when I was seven. I HATED crying in front of people (Still do), so I vividly remember willing myself not to cry and pretending it didn’t hurt while there was blood all over my face.
Tomorrow I’m making vegan sweet potato casserole and green beans. And I just took Mama Pea’s dough balls out of the oven this morning- everyone is going to loooove me!!
PS- I used the word seksi in a text this morning. Thought you’d appreciate that 🙂
I’m making some version of a green bean casserole. The boyfriend loves the classic/unhealthy version, but I think I am going to overrule him this year!
I’m cooking all my own food, since my family doesn’t eat similarly to me. I’m keeping it simple, though!
Oh no I hope your lip heals soon! I’m going to a potluck with friends and I’m bringing roasted veggies and chocolate fudge 🙂
Ohh!! That look Y U M M Y!! I will be attempting to make Vegan Green Bean Casserole. Hopefully it turns out tasty because my fam will once again be down on the vegan train. Happy Thanksgiving!
Yummy raw crust– all my fav ingredients!!
Have a lovely pre- thanksgiving day 🙂
Yummy raw crust– all my fav ingredients!!
Have a lovely pre- thanksgiving day 🙂
That tart crust looks and sounds amazing…I’ve been looking for a gluten free pie crust? Do you think this would work as a pie crust??? My problems could be solved!
it would totally work as a pie crust!
In the morning the kids watch the Thanksgiving day parade, then I slowly start helping my mom with the food and my cousins come over sometime that afternoon. We’ll play around with my cousins (we’re much older) and then we feast!
This year I’m not going home though. I’ll go to my guy friend’s parents place though–his mom is a phenomenal healthy cook!
I’m contributing some zucchini bread and some cranberry sauce! 🙂
I’m making the whole feast from start to finish, myself. Including the dishes. Actually, this day will be no diff than the other 364 days a year for me 🙂 I do all the cooking and cleanup around here so will be continuing that trend tomorrow. I am making a traditional feast for Scott. He is so excited that I am cooking traditional fare for him. I did last year and he loved it 🙂
Have a wonderful holiday with your family, Gina!
Tucker looks so cute as does that raw tart crust!
🙂
hehe love that pic of tucker! Adorable!!
I’ll be contributing a bakery-made cake (a vendor gift) – it’s red velvet. Yum!
What a cute picture of Tucker!!! I am hosting this year so I’m making it all! 🙂
Beautiful crust!
I am sure it will be extra amazing
when it is all put together.
Ouch! Sorry about your lip!
That crust sounds amazing! I hope in another post you’ll give us some ideas for fillings for it! 😉
I am making sweet potato casserole for my family’s Thanksgiving dinner. Yum! Hope your lip feels better. 🙂
Oh no, sorry about your lip … glad your madre was there to make it all better though, mine has the same magical touch!
I am making everything from start to finish. I did take the advice you previously posted on the blog about prepping for gatherings and washed, chopped and bagged as much as I can to make things a bit easier tomorrow. This evening I made most of the desserts, a chocolate bday cake for my brother, mama pea’s pb cookie dough balls, ur vegan chocolate chip cookies and baklava.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Gina!
Mmmmm . . . that looks great. Why was agave banned at Canyon Ranch? I haven’t used it much, but am super curious.
Have been enjoying your blogs. I’m on a big weight loss journey right now, but when I’m on maintenance, will be mining your site – love your approach!
Also, I’m making awesome sweet potatoes with a cashew nut topping to take to my friends’ house, but I will be having half a plain.
thank you!!
it can cause major organs to shut down? i need to do more research. i heard about the hubbub but was using it sparingly.. went to grab a jar at the store the other night and my bro FREAKED OUT!!! he was like “don’t ever use that again!” whoa. so for now i’m going to use stevia or maple syrup
Happy Thanksgiving!
Dinner is at my mom’s house, but i’m doing all of the cooking this year…and loving every minute of it 🙂
Jen
tuckers face is priceless! ha
happy thanksgiving! may it be filled with gratitude and joy 🙂
