New stability ball workout {video}

Good morning! Happy almost-Friday <3

Zumba went really well last night! I had three ladies, who take Zumba classes often together, and they were a hoot. They followed along extremely well, so I threw in a couple of my more complicated dances towards the end. After not teaching for a while, and only being used to 45-minute team-teaching classes while I was teaching regularly, an hour by myself was no joke. I’m a liiiittle out of Zumba shape 😉 I had a blast, so hopefully my three Zumba friends will be back again next week.

This morning, Livi and I are starting to get things ready because my MIL is coming for a visit! I’m excited that she’ll get to stay with us one more time before we move. We have a couple of fun things planned for the weekend, including Livi’s birthday party 🙂

This morning, I thought I’d post a little stability ball workout that Sasha and I filmed together:

Stability ball workout

It works your entire body, and you can complete it up to three times total. As always, check with a doc before making any fitness changes, and honor your body.

Hope you enjoy!!

You could combine this with a Zumba warmup, Tabata circuit and arm burner for a killer 30-minute workout.

Here’s the text version for my friends at work:

Stability ball circuit

Hope you have a wonderful day!
See ya later.

xoxo

Gina

SO doing this workout later! Glad you had a good first day back! I have to get back into Zumba. The problem is I really don’t like the instructors at my gym!

    • Britt on January 16, 2014 at 2:25 pm

Just did this and the arm burner. KILLER workout!!

      • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:29 pm

        great job!!

        • Britt on January 16, 2014 at 10:04 pm

The lower, outer part of my leg is really sore! I never knew it could get sore! Thanks for the awesome workout!

This looks like so much fun! Something about adding bouncing to a workout makes it feel more like play than work — even if it actually makes the exercises more challenging.

  3. Jackie on January 16, 2014 at 10:56 am

I don’t do enough stability ball work!

  4. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on January 16, 2014 at 10:59 am

Yay for a successful Zumba class. It can really kick your booty! 🙂 So glad your ladies liked it. Also, love the stability workout!

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:31 pm

thanks, friend. hope you’ve had a great week!

  5. Madison on January 16, 2014 at 11:40 am

I never use the stability ball–but I need to start it!

  6. Kylie on January 16, 2014 at 12:11 pm

I like to use a stability ball while in plank position (elbow/forearms on ball) and then move the ball in circles both directions, forward, backward…it’s a good core/ab work out 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:31 pm

ohhh i’ve tried that with my feet on the ball but not my arms. happening.

  7. Abi@AbsofSteel on January 16, 2014 at 12:20 pm

i love that hamstring ball pull in exercise. the one where you lay on your back with your calves on the ball and your hips lifted and then pull the ball towards your butt. hits the back of the legs like nothing else!

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:30 pm

yep! hamstring curl 🙂 love that exercise, too!

  8. Julie @ Better Life with Burgers on January 16, 2014 at 12:41 pm

Oh, hello, side lunges on a ball! I love it! I think it’s so fun to try new stability ball exercises–thanks for the creative ideas!

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:30 pm

Last night I went through a few of the Sage workouts on YouTube, and at one point I thought to myself, “I wish they had a stability ball workout.” hahaha Great timing, ladies. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:30 pm

we read your mind haha 😉

I love using the stability ball for core workouts – it opens up a whole new chapter of exercises!

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:30 pm

exactly! such a fun way to change things up

  12. Kelly on January 16, 2014 at 2:30 pm

We used the stability ball two weeks in a row on my strength class. I’m not as confident on it so need more practice. I did really like using it for push ups though… I felt I could do a push up with better form (I’m just getting started with push ups) on the stab ball.

Glad Zumba went well, I’ll bet those three ladies will be back fo sho!!! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:29 pm

      i hope so!!
the SB is amazing for pushups. my upper body is still fairly weak, so it’s a huge help with pushups

  13. Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit on January 16, 2014 at 2:43 pm

I love using the ball for Hamstring Curls! For sure my favorite – such a good burn!

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:28 pm

that’s probably my favorite exercise 🙂

  14. Becca on January 16, 2014 at 3:53 pm

Yessss I’m so excited for this workout! I first got to know how killer the stability ball can be with your Summer Shape Up moves from last year. Thanks!!

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:26 pm

are you doing winter shape up with us?? 🙂

      • Becca on January 16, 2014 at 10:47 pm

        Yes I will!

Btw I did the workout just now to top off my routine– it was a neat challenge!

        • Fitnessista on January 17, 2014 at 12:22 am

🙂 let me know what you think!

  16. Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs on January 16, 2014 at 4:10 pm

Looks like a great & fun workout! I don’t really use the stability ball much, other than to do some pushups on it, so this would be a great way to switch things up!

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2014 at 5:24 pm

it’s a fun way to add a little variety to your routine 🙂

  17. Livi on January 16, 2014 at 5:54 pm

I don’t really use one often but I want to try it!

  18. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on January 16, 2014 at 6:49 pm

I do stability ball training a little maybe once a week at the gym but nothing crazy. This looks like a GREAT workout!

  19. Lizzy @ Lizzy Lives in L.A. on January 16, 2014 at 7:39 pm

I love working with the stability ball!! But no matter what, I always end up trying to balance myself on it first on my knees and then eventually standing haha. Kid at heart!!

    • Fitnessista on January 17, 2014 at 12:27 am

i’m the same way haha 🙂

  20. Kasey Shuler @ Well of Health on January 16, 2014 at 8:24 pm

      :)! hope you’re doing well!

  21. Emily on January 17, 2014 at 6:56 am

LOVED this workout with the four videos combined! Definitely something new to keep me motivated. I thought the videos were great. I felt like I was taking a class but I could do it at home with no one watching my terrible zumba moves!

    • Fitnessista on January 17, 2014 at 3:45 pm

awesome!!! so happy you enjoyed them

  22. Megan @ TheSkinny-Life on January 17, 2014 at 8:14 am

AWESOME workout, Gina! The stability ball is a regular part of my strength training. I wish more people knew how to use them because they are missing out!

    • Fitnessista on January 17, 2014 at 3:45 pm

      i totally agree!!

  23. Sarah on January 17, 2014 at 4:22 pm

So great! Good timing – I got a stability ball for Christmas, and haven’t used it yet (Girls have been sick 🙁

  24. Michelle on January 19, 2014 at 12:44 pm

This is great. Thank you for making workouts fun. My dad recently had a stroke and they said the fact that he exercised really helped / lessened the damage that could have been done. Since that I’ve been trying to step up my workouts and change them up, and looking at this site has really helped and motivated me. Also, I’m a latina and love all your dance workout videos, they take me back to my salsa team days!

    • Fitnessista on January 19, 2014 at 7:11 pm

thank you so much, michelle! glad to hear your dad is doing well. i’ll be thinking of him and your family! xo

Hey Gina, Loved the video! You make it look so easy. I’m going to put 2 of them in my garage and start working out with my friends. And it’s fun adding variety into your workouts. Excellent post 🙂
