Golden Milk Latte (how to make turmeric tea)
This golden milk latte, also known as turmeric tea, is lightly sweet but very low in sugar, and is the perfect way to unwind before bed. Itโs packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, and is a beautiful soft golden color.
Word to the world: we have a new beverage obsession.
First it was coffee (oh wait, itโs still coffee),
then green juice,
thenย kombucha,
thenย my beloved detox drinkย (which I still enjoy often)
and now, this.
The golden milk latte (aka turmeric tea).
Golden Milk Latte
Iโve been intrigued by these for a while, especially since I read this beautiful post that my friend Kristen wrote. The benefits of turmeric are numerous, and it has a bright golden hue. I find it to taste extremely mild, so itโs easy to sprinkle a little of this anti-inflammatory spice onto savory foods and breakfast dishes.
Iโve been meaning to try the golden milk latte before bed, and finally got around to it. Iโm hooked.
It tastes warming, and sweet, and is the perfect way to wind down before bed.
I browsed a few recipes online, and came up with my own combo, which includes turmeric (necessary), almond milk, cinnamon, a pinch of pepper, honey, cayenne and ginger.
Itโs a snap to put together, and itโs kind of like crawling into bed with your favorite cozy blanket.
Hereโs how to make turmeric teaย if youโd like to give it a try!

Ooh yummy! I have made this before but haven’t added clove. Can’t wait to try that addition! You got me hooked on your detox drink and this sounds like another addiction ๐
yes, it’s the same way!! i like the detox drink in the morning and this one before bed ๐
xoxo
This looks awesome! I might add a tsp of coconut oil because black pepper & coconut oil (or fat) help with proper absorption. Can’t wait to try it!
I always drink this whenever I feel like I’m getting sick. It’s better than NyQuill for sure!
I’ve also heard turmeric is good for period cramps. But I’ve never tried it for that purpose.
Yumm-y, and such a cute mug too!
I make it by the quart. I pour a quart of almond milk in the blender and all the ingredients, blend it, and then pour it back in the milk box, labelled with a “G”, so I don’t grab it to use in coffee. It’s become part of my weekly prep. Then I nuke a small glass at a time. Don’t add coconut oil if you pre-make and refrigerate it, though. The oil separates and turns to a solid instead of remaining blended. I usually add some cardamom instead of clove.
I’ve been looking for a nighttime drink–something to sip while reading so I can relax and actually sleep. Apparently coffee is bad for that? I’ll have to give this a try.
I’ve never tried anything like this before, but I have to admit, now I’m curious!
Thank you for sharing this recipe with us. I’ve been looking for a good recipe for turmeric tea. My dad has had joint pain for many years and references turmeric as the key ingredient that makes his body feel young again. I can’t wait to give it a try!
I always wanted to know how to make a golden milk latte! Thank you for sharing! Can’t wait to reap the benefits of turmeric ๐
i hope you love it!
I love warm drinks before bed that leave the tummy full and you relaxed!!!
yes! they’re amazing before bed
I made a Golden Milk recipe a while back and loved it!! And then I brushed my teeth and my toothbrush turned yellow. And it kept a yellowish tint after several brushes. And it freaked me out and I got worried that my teeth would turn yellow!!! So… Have you had that issue? Is it a concern that it will yellow teeth? Or is it no worse than coffee?
nope, i haven’t had any problems with that! i use the tom’s whitening tooth paste and i think it works really well, especially with wine and coffee stains ๐
I tried making a turmeric tea from a recipe a year ago and didn’t like it at all probably because it ended up being very strong. This looks good though so I’m going to try again tonight! How well do you think this would hold in the fridge if you made a batch for a few days worth of drink. And microwave instead of stove?
i think it would definitely work!
I’m going to have to give this a try…probably a better night time ritual to get into the habit of rather than my nightly glass of wine! ha!
hahah! you can alternate ๐
I use turmeric on everything but have never made golden milk. Sounds delish! ๐ Nice pics too, friend!
I have been drinking the Golden Milk mix from your friend Kristen at WellBlends for a couple of months now. Just a note for anyone who hasn’t tried it yet – the almond milk you use will make a big difference in the taste (obviously!). If you have the sweetened or vanilla flavored almond milk, you will probably want to taste test before you go crazy with the honey, or stick to the unsweetened milk.
ahhh i need to order some from her. and yes, the almond milk makes a huge difference!
I’ve made it using both sweetened and unsweetened almond milk. Also, I prefer to make mine without any clove in it. I love the taste of cloves normally, but in this I find it a little over powering.
I love turmeric and use it regularly because it helps to regulate certain issues I have as I go through the menopause.
Do you think you could use ground ginger or does it need to be fresh to really get the benefits of it? This sounds amazing! Both my husband and I have been drinking your detox drink most mornings and we love it!
Thanks!
If you mixed it up in the Vitamix Blender couldnโt you just turn it up for a couple of minutes to warm it up and not have to pour in a pan and heat? I was going to juice some turmeric and ginger together and try the fresh with. It. Canโt wait to try. So many almond milks which brand do you use?
