A newfound fake love

Hey hey hey ๐Ÿ™‚ How was your day? Hope it was fabulous <3

Thank you so much for this morningโ€™s discussion on interview tips and for all of your good vibes! I thinkhope it went pretty well ๐Ÿ™‚ I had to teach a Zumba song and a weights training song for some of the other instructors and it was a lot of fun. I was a little rusty with my Zumba โ€“itโ€™s been a while!- but think I got back in the groove ok, and had no prob with the weights portion. Should hear for sure by tomorrowโ€ฆ. *fingers crossed!*

The Pilot greeted me with flowers after the interview:

pilot

+ a basil plant!! (He knows me so well)

Today was crazy productive, from the interview until my late afternoon acupuncture nap. Side note: when I was first falling asleep in acupuncture, I had a dream that I was falling off a cliff and JERKED AWAKE. (Probably scared the people around me) Doesnโ€™t it mean something when you dream that? Any dream analysts out there? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lunch was legendary.

salad

My raw Caesar salad with capers, brown rice toast croutons and some of thisโ€ฆ

tempeh

Fakinโ€™ bacon!!

I have pretty much hated on faux meat products for the past couple of years. The ingredient lists are scary and I think if someone wants to move towards a plant-based diet, itโ€™s advisable to go with whole foods rather than stuff that was created in a science lab.

And then, I had tempeh bacon in LA at Real Food Daily. I blame them for this. (It wasnโ€™t even my meal, it was the Pilotโ€™s and I stole so many tempeh bacon bites from his fettuccini)

This morning, I had to race to Sunflower Market just to get some tempeh bacon! I read the ingredient list (which was pretty stanky), still bought it, and relished every tasty bite.

 tempeh (2)

After the feast of feasts, it was macaroon-making time!!

Two flavors:

Mocha-roons

roons

and Meyer Lemon Lavender

roons (2)

(I gave the Pilot a bite of dough, to which he said โ€œThat is f-king deliciousโ€) ๐Ÿ˜€

Post-acupuncture snackage:

carrots

Jalapeno-cilantro hummus + carrots and bell pepper

Itโ€™s gym time over here, but have a wonderful night! See ya in the morning with โ€œShow Me Your Fitโ€ ๐Ÿ™‚

xoxo

Gina

I have to be a nosey nelly (sneaky Suzi?) and ask what Zumba song you used for your audition/interview??

My other question is – are the opensky promos open to Canada yet or still just the US?

I’m sure you rocked you interview and will be getting good news tomorrow!

    • Fitnessista on April 14, 2011 at 10:12 pm

i went old school and did this one, with the same choreography: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJ6fypJCr0s

Gotta love a Kumbia Kings Cumbia!! I love that song, don’t blame you at all for going old school.

I figured as much but thought I’d check anyway, I’m dying to get in on some of your promos!

Hmm. Is there a petition we can sign for this book deal? ๐Ÿ™‚ The Meyer Lemon Lavender sounds so good!

  5. Kelly on April 14, 2011 at 10:25 pm

I highly recommend the tempeh bacon recipe from Vegan With A Vengeance! I think it’s the same one Isa included in Vegan Brunch. Either way, it’s delicious! No skanky ingredients here. I like to add a dash of maple syrup ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Rhoni on April 15, 2011 at 1:06 am

I second this! This is exactly what I was going to write in my comment! Her Tempeh Bacon recipe is incredible and pretty easy to make. ๐Ÿ™‚ It always disappears super fast so make a double batch because if you’re anything like me…you won’t be able to stop eating it!!!

Fingers crossed for you and the new job! ๐Ÿ™‚

I usually do those twitchy-leg-jerk-almost-but-not-quite-asleep kicks during the final relaxation of a yoga class. Kinda embarrassing.

Sending positive job vibes your way lady!

I agree, Fakin’ Bacon doesn’t have the best ingredient list but it’s definitely my favorite variety of tempeh. It tastes delicious and there are so many great recipes to make with it. I love it cooked with greens as well as in BLTs. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife on April 14, 2011 at 10:58 pm

YAH for flowers…..good job on the interview!!

  12. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on April 14, 2011 at 10:58 pm

Madara products…I have used them in the past, just some samples and they do smell wonderful!

Meyer Lemon Lavender macaroons…wow, bet your house smells amazing. I love lavender and in cookies or teas, it’s such a delicate, unique, wonderful flavor.

I have not had faux meat products in years. I went gangbusters on Moringstar products about 10 yrs ago and think I od’ed on them. lol Glad you found something you like!

  13. Christa on April 14, 2011 at 11:00 pm

Oh wow… the macaroons look amazing! *wiping drool off keyboard*

I can’t wait until Open Sky is available in Canada, although my wallet may be happier as it is now ๐Ÿ™‚

Best of luck to you tomorrow, hope its good news!

  14. Kristin on April 14, 2011 at 11:12 pm

I feel ya on the faux meat thing. I have had tempeh bacon before and it is pretty amazing. You can actually make it yourself using tempeh (which by itself is less scary ingredient list) and add maple syrup and liquid smoke and cook in skillet on the stove, it’s amazing as well. Every time I see the macaroons my mouth waters.

  15. Laury @ thefitnessdish on April 14, 2011 at 11:13 pm

I have hated on fake meat products too for a very long time. The only thing holding me back from a 100% vegan diet I think. Many years ago I worked out like a maniac and ate a lot of “fake” diet foods. Once I went to whole foods, eliminating everything processed, I totally got rid of all things tofu meat (I went veg when I was 12 back and forth). However, I do love tempeh and have recently come to find more products with better ingredient lists. I didn’t eat packaged veggie burgers for like 7 years but recently found one that was good!

Very sweet of the Pilot to bring you a basil plant, I would have swooned…oh the flowers were sweet too ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Kate on April 14, 2011 at 11:35 pm

Mmm jalapeรฑo-cilantro hummus?! Is that store bought or a recipe? It looks amazing ๐Ÿ™‚

And way to go on the interview! Hope you get it!

  17. Sarah K on April 15, 2011 at 12:00 am

I’ve always wanted to make/try macaroons. You make them all the time and they look so good.

  18. mitzi @ my nikon eats food on April 15, 2011 at 12:06 am

i need a lemon lavender macaroon. NOW!

  19. Sheena on April 15, 2011 at 12:07 am

Does the tempeh “bacon” actually taste like real bacon? I imagine the texture is way different because obviously it is NOT made of porkey succulence!

  20. brittfit on April 15, 2011 at 12:14 am

i def want to live to 100 . great article. ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Melissa on April 15, 2011 at 12:29 am

Tempeh is actually the healthiest ways to consume soy. I don’t know what is in fakin bacon, though. I don’t think we have it in Canada. I eat the Turtle Island foods kind normally… But in any case, unless the company is processing their soy using hexane (you could always phone and find out) tempeh is A-OK in my books!

  22. Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing on April 15, 2011 at 12:45 am

Aw, Pilot…nice work. (Basil is the way to my heart, too, Gina ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

  23. sarah @ eatliveaustin on April 15, 2011 at 2:10 am

You’re gonna have to stop posting about the Pilot or I am gonna fall in love with him! ๐Ÿ˜›

Like others have said you could easily make your own tempeh bacon. I’ve also seen some people make eggplant bacon in the dehydrator. Not sure where I first saw it.

    • Fitnessista on April 15, 2011 at 1:16 pm

      swoon away, my friend!
i’ve made eggplant bacon quite a few times, but tempeh is totally different! definitely a more meaty texture

  24. sandy on April 15, 2011 at 2:19 am

fingers crossed for you! how sweet the basil plant! that is the perfect good job gift:)

  25. justine on April 15, 2011 at 5:18 am

For some reason, the Pilot’s comment about your macaroon dough made me snort with laughter! Sometimes a well-chosen F-bomb conveys more than a thousand other words!

  29. Susanne on April 15, 2011 at 7:21 am

Back in the day, I used to have dreams where I was falling and would wake up abruptly. It was during a period in my life when I felt like everything in my life was unsettled and I had a lot of decisions to make. Once I got my path straight, I stopped having the weird dreams ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Fitnessista on April 15, 2011 at 12:14 pm

that would totally make sense- everything is up in the air right now!

  30. Kristin (Cook, Bake, Nibble) on April 15, 2011 at 7:39 am

I love fakin bacon but hate the ingredients as well. So I made my own- in the dehydrator! It still uses tempeh, and the marinade is all ingredients you’ll probably already have in your pantry. So maybe not the most natural thing in the world, but it doesn’t come from a package! ๐Ÿ˜€

  47. Meghan on April 15, 2011 at 12:51 pm

Tempeh bacon is the only meat imposter I’ll eat, too. Its just too tasty to pass up and tempeh is a lot less processed than other meat fakesters, such as boca burgers or tofu pups, or anything filled with soy protein isolate.

  48. Anna (munchingmamacita) on April 15, 2011 at 12:57 pm

Processed meat really freaks me out too but then there’s those few times I get a hankering for a tofurkey sammy or something in the store just sounds too good to be true for a fake meat and I try it out. Usually, I was right and it was too good to be true and I never buy it again but you live you learn!

As for those meyer lemon lavender macaroons. Oh. My. God. Sounds heavenly. You haven’t perhaps posted a recipe for that have you?
