Anybody heard any good jokes lately?

Hi everybody!

 pilot

You’ve got the pilot here. I hope this finds you well. I’m doing pretty good but of course I’ve noticed a little bit of discontent in your usually cheerful reading and I was hoping to talk to you guys and shed a little light on a couple things so you can focus once again on what you love – living happy and healthy lives.

Guys/girls, I don’t know if you know this or not, but my name’s Tom. I’m telling you this because history’s taught us that people with single syllable names have always been a reliable voice of reason. Stop thinking of names from history and just consider a little of what I have to say 🙂 I think you’ll find from reading this and past pilot posts (PPP’s) that I like all of you guys and that I’m genuinely humbled and thankful every time I get to talk to such a large group of intelligent, passionate folks. So no hard feelings about any of this stuff, right? Come’on – you wouldn’t be mad at a guy named Tom, would you? Stop thinking of Tom’s you don’t like and please, continue reading.

You all have probably got to know my wife Gina (a.k.a. the Fitnessista – fun fact: pronounced like “fashionista” in case you thought you had been reading fitness tips from your “sista” 😉 ). So you probably know she’s a loving and caring person that probably actually over thinks her postings so she doesn’t offend anyone. She takes so much pleasure in seeing you guys happy whether or not that’s a result of the tidbits she offers up on here. I can tell she’s extremely bothered by the fact that the whole April Fool’s day joke has turned a little nasty (and I’m trying to be a good hubby and clear the air so I can see her smiling again).

Here’s the deal, folks. Gina wrote her little post based on the fact that she would not normally eat a pulled pork sandwich and fries. You would be shocked if she did! Well, I know I would because that’s not how she eats on a regular basis. Ready for the cliché, “sitcom” caveat: NOT THAT THERE’S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT 🙂 She doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat pulled pork if that works for you and it’s what you like. Before going pescatarian, it was one of her favorites. Is anybody really offended by that? Really…realllllly……realllllllllly? If anybody’s allowed to be offended, it should be me: IT WAS MY PULLED PORK SANDWICH!!! And guess what, I wasn’t embarrassed in the least. I love ‘em and while I know it’s important to eat most food types in moderation, this was way worth it…and delicious.

I know these issues mean a lot to you all and things might have just gotten a little out of hand but we’re all friends here. There’s no reason to get up in arms at each other. I mean, I wake up everyday and go to a job where me and my little 30,000lb aircraft fly 400mph at 100ft off the ground where only a tiny lapse in concentration or malfunction away from a very bad day and I don’t take daily life this serious. In fact, I’m able to be relatively sane thanks to the levity of my charming and often hilarious wife. So jokes are good, right guys?

081107-F-7823A-164.JPG

Look, it’s all cool. I still love all you guys (and so does Gina, of course) and nobody has any grudges. So, let’s press from here and leave this misunderstanding in the past. If you still have any heartburn over it, come on down to visit and I will proudly share my Smokin’ Pig Bar-b-que with you while the Fitnessista breaks out the wine.

tom and i

Cheers,

The Pilot

Gina, what an amazing husband you have! 🙂 I just wanted to let you know I enjoyed your joke this morning and took no offense to it – and I LOVE me some pulled pork! I know you encourage people to do what is right for them, and I respect that. Thanks so much for caring about your blog and your readers as much as you do – it really shows.

  2. ida on April 2, 2010 at 4:52 am

what a day! sorry you got so beat up over nada. I love that the sandwich was your hubby’s

  3. Emily on April 2, 2010 at 5:31 am

I’m late on catching up here and personally got the giggles about your joke post. I was wondering where you got the photo from of the pork sammie and now I know! Happy Easter break to you both 🙂

  4. Marie-Sophie on April 2, 2010 at 5:49 am

As Emily I am also late on catching up here and loved your little april joke .. Caitlin from http://www.healthytippingpoint.com did exactly the same! 🙂

And I canNOT understand how anyone could be offended by that!! Come on, guys – even if you did have the sudden urge to eat a pulled pork sandwich … SO WHAT?!!
It’s your body and I am sure you have become a master in reading its signals … we all should try and do that, too! Some of us might have bodies that suddenly want meat … and everyone else should just accept it!
I wouldn’t want anyone to tell me what they think that MY body needs or doesn’t need … it’s just none of their business.

I am always amazed by how openly and honestly you food bloggies share your lives and your food and eating habits and thoughts on food and your bodies with us. This is not something to take for granted. Thanks so much for that, Gina!!

And thanks, Tom the Pilot 🙂 for being so upfront with all those people and trying to get things back into perspective again.

chocolaty hugs from Germany and Happy Easter!

  5. Beth on April 2, 2010 at 6:02 am

This is really sweet. I love that you feel so protective of Gina and her feelings. My husband is the same way, and I think it’s fantastic.

I would totally dig into that pulled pork (sans bun since gluten and I are not friends), BTW.

People are going to get pissed about seemingly benign things. Please remember that 99.9% of the time it has everything to do with THEM and nothing to do with you, Gina. People get their buttons pushed by some weird stuff. If no harm was intended (and it clearly wasn’t) chalk it up to them working through their own issues and let it go.

I think your regular readers know you were having a bit of lighthearted fun. Life is way too short to get mad about some harmless April Fools Day joking.

  6. M on April 2, 2010 at 6:11 am

I’m in love with the pilot.

    Yeah, I said it.

    • Fitnessista on April 2, 2010 at 6:35 am

      haha, totally allowed 🙂

I just wanted to add my virtual hug for you Gina. I’ve said before how inspiring you are and I’ll say it again! You inspire me every single day. I discovered nutritional yeast because of you!

Pilot, you’re awesome – what an incredible support you are. You are a GOOD and HONORABLE man. Your dedication to your wife brings tears to my eyes (in a good way!).

This world is a better place for having people like both of you and I’m privileged to have found this blog. You help me be a better person.

    Hugs,
    Trish

    Hi Gina!

I’ve been reading your blog for over a month now, and I must say that I absolutely love it and look forward to reading your posts each day. As a registered nutritionist, Pilates teacher and magazine writer, I am constantly impressed with your nutrition knowledge, writing style, food creativity, and sensible yet enlightened approach to healthy living and exercise.

I thought that I’d better chime in to let you know that you are very special, and your posts and life experiences positively impact and resonate with many people, including more than one nutrition professional!

    Keep up the great work!

Hi Gina! I’ve never posted before and just wanted to let you know that I LOVE your blog and loved your April Fool’s joke!!! I actual LOLed at my computer!:) I’m planning on commenting more from now on so you will be hearing from me soon! 🙂

    Gina!
I started reading your blog on my mat leave last year, and I haven’t missed a post since. I have never commented, but want you to knwo that you always put a smile on my face and brighten my day. It makes me so mad when people carelessly put up rude and negative comments. You put so many hours into producing funny, intelligent, and interesting posts for your readers, and it is infuriating that a rude comment written up and posted in a matter of seconds can take away from all your hard work and make you feel like crap. SO unfair. Please know that you are making a difference and doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work! PS: Your husband is adorable:)

    • Fitnessista on April 2, 2010 at 11:08 am

      thank you, kate <3
and yes, my hubby is wonderful 🙂

  12. Gosia on April 2, 2010 at 7:20 am

I knew it was your sandwich Mr. Pilot 😉 and i found April Fool’s joke really funny.
Gina, i think you’re one of the most considerate, inspiring and down to earth FFF (food, fitness, fashion;) blogger out there. If someone has problem with your posts they should simply look for some other blog to read!
Keep up your amazing work and don’t you dare changing your style girl:)
Kisses from Poland and Happy Easter!

thanks so much, gosia (you have a BEAUTIFUL name!!) <3

thank you:) it’s a diminutive for ‘Ma?gorzata’, have fun pronouncing that one haha <3

        • Fitnessista on April 2, 2010 at 11:46 am

hahah i’m not even going to try. i worked with two wonderful polish ladies when i was a fragrance model and they had the most lovely accents! they were so much fun 🙂

          • Gosia on April 2, 2010 at 12:31 pm

yep, polish accent rules;) so does polish food, but your cooked/uncooked creations looks quite delicious as well 🙂

  13. Elizabeth on April 2, 2010 at 7:24 am

Hahaha: IT WAS MY PULLED PORK SANDWICH!!!

    Pilot, you make me laff.

  14. rhea on April 2, 2010 at 7:50 am

amazing. gina, you are the luckiest!

  15. Miranda on April 2, 2010 at 7:59 am

I can’t believe anyone got offended by the joke. I think people have gotten WAY too sensitive, serious, and rigid in their own lives if they can’t just get a chuckle and move on. Even if you don’t think it is funny – so what? Just move on – if your name isn’t on it, don’t pick it up! Why make drama??

    Keep on keepin’ on, Gina!

  16. Ian on April 2, 2010 at 7:59 am

Agreed: sweet indeed. I think any hateful words came from insecurities totally unrelated to our wonderful Fitnessista’s lovely blog 😀

    • Fitnessista on April 2, 2010 at 9:49 am

      thanks buddy
      <3 you!

  17. Krista on April 2, 2010 at 8:03 am

People were offended by the April Fool’s joke? That’s just crazy!

  18. Jennie {in Wonderland} on April 2, 2010 at 8:05 am

    Oh, G$ + Pilot Tom = 4ever!! <3

Ok, let's step back from the fanfiction I am clearly about 5 seconds away from writing about you two…

    😉

I told my Welshman all about this hoopla and his response was, "I could really go for a pulled pork sandwich right about now." I sighed and asked, "BUT ARE YOU OFFENDED?" and he blinked and said, "About what? It's just a joke. It would be funny just like if you said you were going to eat something other than air, ha ha ha ha" and then I hit him with a pillow. Just for clarity, in Welshman-speak, air = lettuce, flaxseed, , fruit, green smoothies, spelt pancakes – basically anything that has nutritional value. That's why I adore him so 🙂

Not to mention, he played a number of insanely cruel jokes on his family this April Fools [including getting a forged letter from a very prominent legal body sent to his father] so I think he thought this one was letting everybody off easy.

Thanks for posting, Tom!! It's lovely how you support your smart and gorgeous wife. And <3 you Gina – keep trucking … the blog world needs you!

  19. kirsten on April 2, 2010 at 8:12 am

I’m so glad you posted this mr. pilot! you are one lucky little lady gina! I can’t believe people got so upset over the april fools post! Everyone just needs to take a deep breath and CHILL OUT! life is going to work out, and keep on rolling, whether you eat meat or not, whether you have a dessert or not.
Can’t we all be pleasant to each other? Is that really to much to ask?
    Love you Fitnessista + Pilot!

  25. Kate on April 2, 2010 at 8:39 am

I love pulled pork. Moderation is key. If I wanted to eat a pulled pork sandwich I would eat one, no judgement or regret!

Gina’s luck to have someone that will stand up and defend her the way you do 🙂

  26. Andrea on April 2, 2010 at 8:46 am

What a classy husband and wife team! I loved Tom’s post and don’t think it added to the drama. Instead, it put the whole thing out there, explained from a different point of view, and made light of the issue. Tom you’re obviously a great guy, and Gina’s pretty lucky! But then again, she’s obviously great too 🙂

Gina, I love your blog! I’m trying to lose weight I put on during college and your blog reminds me how important it is to eat healthy food and not just the low-fat processed stuff. I’ve used a lot of your recipes and I’ve already lost 10 pounds! I feel so much healthier already, and I’m learning to make the types of food decisions that will let me keep this weight off for a good long time instead of gaining it right back. I probably wouldn’t eat as healthy as I try to now if I didn’t have your blog to guide me with such great advice and recipes. I saw your Twitter post last night where you said you were considering quitting the blog world for awhile, and I just want you to know I really hope you stay around! Your blog is such a great thing for all of us trying to lead healthy lives, and I know I really depend on it for some of the best food advice online. Keep it up, Gina, you’re doing a ton of good out there!

  27. Melissa on April 2, 2010 at 8:53 am

Love this! You can tell just how much he loves you Lucky girl Gina

  28. Cyn on April 2, 2010 at 8:54 am

I read the post in question and it made me smile. Apparently the negative comments had not arrived at the time I read the post. I’m not going to go back and read them, but I would like to say that the reason that the post was so funny was because you said it was the Pilot’s meal. I’ve read your blog for over a year now and one of the reasons I love you is because you are open to ALL food, but know what works for you. Pulled pork sandwich doesn’t work for you anymore, nothing wrong with that. The Pilot (aka Tom) is awesome for supporting you here and I am sure in all other aspects of your lives together. I totally love that you two support each other and look for little ways to make each other happy (i.e., engagement chicken & guest posts).

Whatever you do – do NOT allow some negative posts affect this wonderful holiday weekend. Have a great weekend Gina & Tom!

  29. Mellissa on April 2, 2010 at 9:07 am

This was too cute! People get so upset about the meat/no meat thing, lets all be friends and agree to disagree 🙂

  30. Laura J. on April 2, 2010 at 9:10 am

Awww yayy for a sweet, supportive hubby who has your back 🙂
Sorry that your day was ruined by some people’s lack of a sense of humor! It’s people like that that take the fun out of things like this. Boo hiss on them! I thought your joke was funny and you totally had me fooled til the end! I actually kept re-reading the first part trying to figure out where you said you we’re deciding to eat meat again. haha 🙂 Hope today is a better day for you hun!

LOVE this post! good job Pilot Tom!

Gina – we LOVE you! Don’t let haters get you down! And I’m happy your pilot is as funny as you are. I love his comment about flying massive planes and he doesn’t take life that seriously. hahaha!

I got the joke and I thought it was FUNNNNY! Remember, you cannot offend people. People TAKE offense where they want to. Cheer up and enjoy a fabulous weekend!

  33. Theresa on April 2, 2010 at 9:21 am

Swoon x 100 for a guy who stands up for his wife! Life is too short and there are too many pressing issues in the world to get offended over a pulled pork sandwich joke. Don’t let that stop you from being you, Gina. You rock (and so does the pilot)!

  34. jessica on April 2, 2010 at 9:28 am

I cannot believe that people blow your April Fool’s day joke so out of proportion that the pilot had to write this post. Really people need to get a life. I totally understand where you were coming from in the joke and the pilot explains it excellently here, what a guy! Keep doing the amazing things you do Gina and don’t let a select few individuals who can’t take a joke bring you down.

    • Fitnessista on April 2, 2010 at 9:41 am

      thanks, jessica <3

  35. cjbrownsc on April 2, 2010 at 9:56 am

    Good for you, Tom!!
I love a man who supports his wife!
I knew the post was a joke as soon as I saw it. I think we should all just lighten-up and enjoy life a little bit more! It’s much too short to be so serious!! Luv you guys!!

  36. Maria on April 2, 2010 at 10:08 am

Oh man—your pilot totally rocks and so does your blog! I read it everyday. Dont ever change 😉

  37. Lame O on April 2, 2010 at 10:11 am

Wow, are you 12 years old? Bloggies are mad at me so I better have my hubbie write an apology for me…booo hooo, seriously..how do u have any readers left?

    • Fitnessista on April 2, 2010 at 11:13 am

no worries, girl. all of the other comments you’ve left me in the past have been super nice, so i’m gonna ignore this one 🙂

    • Andrea on April 2, 2010 at 1:20 pm

I really don’t think your reply is any better. Don’t criticize someone and call them a twelve-year-old if you’re going to act like you’re eight.

    • Andrea on April 2, 2010 at 1:21 pm

Sorry, I should have clarified that my reply was to Lame O, not to you Gina.

    • Jessica P. on April 2, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Seriously??!! So, to leave such a rude nasty comment you had to have read the blog post and must be a reader. Or, maybe you didn’t because if you had you would’ve seen that the Pilot never apologized, he was defending his wife.
Gina, long time readers would know that you promote a “eat what’s right for your body” mantra, and everything in moderation, so I think that any of your readers would know that you weren’t actually saying that eating pork and french fries is bad or wrong- obviously you don’t think that or you might not be married to the Pilot right now. I almost believed the joke until I got to the cookie diet part- I thought it was funny!

  38. Jill on April 2, 2010 at 10:24 am

I love your blog! I do not comment very often, but this is just ridiculous. You genuinely care about promoting healthy living & I think you set an excellent example for all of your readers. Anyone who reads your blog regularly knows that even you have cheat days where you indulge in sweets or Mexican, etc.; obviously the joke wasn’t that you were indulging, but that you were eating pork…something very un-Gina like. I thought it was funny. You’re a positive role model…keep up the good work!

  39. Jennifer on April 2, 2010 at 10:32 am

Honestly… I can’t believe anybody was rude to you (Gina) about your joke… I thought it was clever and totally got it – no big deal… I love your blog and all that you stand for, etc. …and, I love that the pilot is so supportive and took an active role in expressing that through your blog… keep up the good work ~ I think most of us readers, by far, are loving it!

  40. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad on April 2, 2010 at 11:21 am

Oh, Gina, you have a sweet pilot. You’re a lucky gal. 🙂

People need to calm it down with their pork sandwich joke hatin’.

  41. Ashley (whole-ier) on April 2, 2010 at 11:27 am

I wonder how many people actually pronounce your blog as “sista” I thought that was hilarious!

Love your blog- keep doing what you do!

  42. sonia @ master of her romaine on April 2, 2010 at 11:46 am

haha! I love the Seinfeld reference 🙂 Gina you have such a caring husband to do this for you! I personally didn’t think there was anything wrong or offensive about your joke…It was funny! I actually believed you until I got to the Cookie Diet part 😀
I think your joke was harmless and well-intended and way better than some other jokes I have heard about…aka someone going home and telling their wife they lost their job..or someone joking about a serious accident! What?! (that did not happen to me)
    People need to lighten up!

  43. s on April 2, 2010 at 11:46 am

haha, this post was funny. i don’t eat pork, but i wouldn’t find it offensive if someone had a pulled pork sandwich (ahh … now i miss kansas city bbq). haha. thanks for the great posts gina.

  44. Sharon on April 2, 2010 at 11:49 am

I think you are wonderful and a great inspiration. If anyone can’t take it that’s their problem…Keep doing what you’re doing!!

  45. Maxine on April 2, 2010 at 12:08 pm

I can’t believe ppl gave you a hard time about this supposed pulled pork sandwich. I am a oportunivore in the sense that my eating habits range from vegan to all out carnivore depending on what is available and what is local and in season (as much as possible). Did you know that some of the tofu sold is made from soybeans in China where people get paid barely enough to survive?

With that being said, I am going to enjoy a pulled pork wrap today from a local, organic, and free range farm.

  46. Katie on April 2, 2010 at 12:13 pm

Amen, Tom! (And I agree about the good ole, reliable names.) Thanks so much for putting this into perspective, and standing up (as always) for Gina.

  47. Shawna on April 2, 2010 at 12:26 pm

Wow, people can be so silly! You totally made me laugh and guess what I still eat meat! It was a joke people, get over it! I think it’s awesome that your hubby put himself out there like that. Guess what Gina? It’s okay to be a caring person and it’s okay to wear your heart on your sleeve. That is why I read your blog, you are a real person! Kudos to hubby for showing his love! Big raspberry to all the haters!

  48. Abbey on April 2, 2010 at 12:56 pm

LOL the pilot is hilarious, maybe he should start his own blog…?

Forget about them haters. They need a freaking LIFE if they have enough time to hate on your completely politically correct blog. It’s almost laughable that people get offended by this ish. Some of these readers are in the dark about what REALLY being offended is like. I suggest they take a nice big chill pill & stfu. Sounds like we got a few sheltered readers here who think comparing what they eat to everyone they come across is the meaning of life. Get over it people! Gina eats the way she wants, and however you choose to eat is your own decision.

“I got these haters like, ‘When she gonna stop?’ Maybe a minute after ya never start ya clocks.”
    Some Lil Wayne inspiration. XD

  49. Melanie on April 2, 2010 at 1:52 pm

    Hi,

I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now but skip the comments so missed all the April fools craziness until I saw the Pilots post and realized what happened. I thought it was funny, haha funny. It’s a shame that you have to be so careful these days about making a joke or what you say for fear of offending someone, the whole PC thing has gotten a little out of control in my opinion!

Anyway, your blog is awesome. You’ve inspired me to try all kinds of new foods and healthy dishes and I love the work-out tips and shape-up programs. I genuinely look forward to reading your blog everyday, it’s fun, upbeat and motivating and I want to thank you for sharing your life and your cooking and fitness expertise with us!!

  50. Shannon on April 2, 2010 at 2:38 pm

I’ve never left a comment before but had to about this one…this is SO strange to me!! This is an entire blog dedicated to fitness, overall mind and body health and eating right- so doesn’t it make sense that to Gina eating a pulled pork sandwich would be an April Fools joke?? Hello people, you’re coming to HER blog to read HER opinions…it just seems crazy to me that people would be offended by something so lighthearted. But then again, some people just like to complain.
