Blogger friends’ books

Tea 1 of 1 3

Hey! Howโ€™s the morning going? Hope youโ€™re having a great one so far <3 I just finished up a morning stretch, an awesome breakfast, and am ready to enjoy the dayโ€™s adventures.

I feel inspired with recipes lately. Itโ€™s certainly a mixture of a few things: the fall produce (gimme ALL THE SQUASHES), enjoying new dishes, and the fact that Iโ€™ve had a couple of awesome new cookbooks to enjoy. New cookbooks always help me to think outside of my usual habits, and they’re an enjoyable way to take down time when youโ€™ve been working on creating your own recipes. Itโ€™s comforting to breeze through a recipe knowing that someone else has carefully tested it for you. My two latest faves are even better because they were written by very good friends.

The first one is this PTV: The Part-time Vegetarian Smoothies and Juices, which was written by Tina

PTV 1 of 1

Iโ€™ve had the pleasure of hanging out with Tina quite a few times, and sheโ€™s become one of my closest blogging buddies. (I still havenโ€™t met Murphy though, and am borderline obsessed with that pug cuteness.) Tina is also a new mama, a CrossFitter, and writes an awesome blog if you havenโ€™t checked it out.

With tina 1 of 1

To write this book, she had to create and test over 140 smoothie recipes in two months (!!!!). When I received my copy, I was amazed by how beautifully it came together. Not only are the recipes incredibly creative (so fresh and vibrant!), but the full-page color photos are gorgeous. There are so many awesome smoothie and juice combos in here, and itโ€™s really encouraged me to step out of the usual rotation. I tend to make the same smoothies and juices over and over, and for the past few weeks, Iโ€™ve been using quite a few of Tinaโ€™s amazing recipes.

Another cookbook that I was particularly excited about: Seriously Delish by Jessica.

Seriously delish 1 of 1

Ok, so Iโ€™ve never met Jess in real life (sad face), but weโ€™ve been blog friends since the early days. Iโ€™m also convinced that sheโ€™s the Pilotโ€™s dream wife. I read him some of the titles of her blog post recipes, and he walked to the kitchen to get a bowl of cereal with a trail of drool on the floor behind him. Needless to say, her recipes always go well in our household ๐Ÿ˜‰ In pure Jess fashion, the cookbook pages are filled with beautiful photos and unique recipes. Thereโ€™s a beautiful mix of indulgent and healthy options; I love that everything is made from scratch.

Chewy granola bars 1 of 1

A huge hit: these chewy granola bars. Theyโ€™re a medley of oats, pumpkin seeds, flax, sunflower seeds, chia, honey…

Chewy granola bars 1 of 1 2

and for her first bar, Liv was walking around the house saying โ€œMmmmm. Mmmm! Mmm. Mmmm!”

Hereโ€™s the thing: the PR reps sent me copies of these cookbooks, and I had already ordered both on Amazon. So, Iโ€™d love to give them to one of you! Just leave a comment below with something thatโ€™s inspiring to you, or your favorite cookbook ever, and Iโ€™ll pick a winner this Thursday midnight EST. Iโ€™ll send both of these cookbooks to the winner, along with whatever goodies find their way into the box ๐Ÿ˜‰

xoxo

We’ve been making lots of recipes from “Choosing Raw” by Gena Hamshaw. I’ve been wanting to add “Seriously Delish” to our collection for a while now!

    • Fitnessista on September 24, 2014 at 1:33 pm

      i love gena’s book, too!!

  2. Emily on September 24, 2014 at 12:29 pm

I love Rachel Ray’s “365: No Repeats.” Not always super healthy options, so I’ve probably only tried 1/4-1/3 of the recipes, but they ones I’ve done are quick and delish. Favorite healthy option: Green and White Lightening Chicken Chili, favorite unhealthy (AMAZING) option: Blue Cheese Mac and Cheese with Sage ๐Ÿ™‚

My favorite cookbook lately has been Ellie Krieger’s comfort food fix, all I want is comfort food this time of year and this book has great modifications so you get the comfort food you want without all the calories.

The Sprouted Kitchen cookbook is a great one, and I’ve recently discovered some great recipes on the blog Against All Grain. I am always inspired by your healthy recipe ideas as well!

  8. Stephanie on September 24, 2014 at 12:36 pm

I really loved the Oh She Glows cookbook, nothing beats a cookbook with beautiful pictures and great intros for every recipe! There really is something special about very old cookbooks that are
“hand-me downs” from family members, filled with delicious recipes and amazing memories!

  9. Kate @KateMovingForward on September 24, 2014 at 12:37 pm

I love the Pioneer Woman’s cookbook and I just got the 100 Days of Real Food cookbook!

  10. Julie on September 24, 2014 at 12:38 pm

The cookbook I use the most is one my mom’s service league put together over 20 yrs ago for a charity fundraiser in my hometown. It’s certainly not on par w/ Jessica or Tina’s but you can’t beat tried & true recipes from “a bunch of little, old ladies”. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. Amanda on September 24, 2014 at 12:38 pm

I loved Joy the Baker’s first cookbook! I could definitely use some new inspiration!

  12. Mary Anne Calabrese on September 24, 2014 at 12:39 pm

I love being inspired by blog posts……really helps me get my focus back on eating healthy!

  13. Katie on September 24, 2014 at 12:39 pm

My favorite cookbook of all time is my Grandma’s copy of the Pioneer Cookbook, just to read her old notes next to recipes. Most of my recipes these days come from blogs, Cooking Light, etc, but I just love to open it to the Popover recipe and see her handwriting!

I love the recipes in Trim Healthy Mama.

  15. Sarah on September 24, 2014 at 12:40 pm

My favorite cookbook is by Francis Mallmann — he is an Argentinian chef inspired by the world around him, and his recipes are actually easy enough for my husband and I to recreate. We just bought tickets to see him do a cooking demo when he comes to town and cannot wait!

  16. Natalie on September 24, 2014 at 12:40 pm

uhhhh the fall totally inspires me to bake! I.just.cant.stop with all the pumpkin flavored everything!

After seeing the documentary Forks over Knives recently I was really inspired to start eating way more plant-based foods. The Forks over Knives cookbook is pretty great for this ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t really have any favorite cookbooks unfortunately ๐Ÿ™
Pinterest is usually where I find inspiration.

With the end of summer I was going over some dietary goals that I needed to work on specifically upping my fruit and veggie intake. Since my lunches and dinners usually incorporate plenty of veggies I wanted to find ways to get more at breakfast. So I’ve finally started making green smoothies! It’s so easy in the morning and I can even prep it the night before so I have an easy breakfast. Glad you like Tina’s cookbook. I’m considering getting it for more ideas but I’m sometimes hesitant about cookbooks because I only seem to make a handful of recipes and the rest are wasted.

  20. Sara @ FitnLife on September 24, 2014 at 12:47 pm

I love the Williams-Sonoma Collection: Mexican cookbook. The cookbook helped me elevate my Mexican inspired dishes from the same old chicken fajitas to things like zucchini stuffed chicken breasts and pork chops marinated in adobo sauce.

  21. RachelG on September 24, 2014 at 12:53 pm

OMG those both look amazing! All I want are those granola bars and a cup of chai tea.

We’re going to do a Biggest Loser style contest at work and while I’m *super* self-consious about weight and numbers on the scale (thankfully we’re going by body fat % lost & your numbers are private) I know that this will be the inspiration needed to lose “those last 10 pounds” in a healthy way. Not wanting to pay $1/lb gained also doesn’t hurt. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I just moved to Torino, Italy with my fiancรฉ (I’m from Michigan) and I’m trying to take as many cooking classes as possible. I have a lot of family members expecting homemade pastas and sauces when I get back! But what inspires me about this country is the beautiful fresh produce that is EVERYWHERE. It’s like every other street has a little open air market going on and the prices are ridiculous! I never realized how much better food tastes when everything is straight-from-the-farm fresh!

  39. Jennifer T on September 24, 2014 at 1:20 pm

I actually joined Cook Smarts and it really inspired me to get out of my cooking rut. They do full week meal plans, but I rarely follow those, I just pick and choose the recipes that look good!

  40. Stephanie on September 24, 2014 at 1:23 pm

Wow! What an awesome giveaway! I’m a huge fan of your and Tina’s blogs and now I can’t wait to read Jess’s! I’m inspired when I see people get out of their comfort zone. I read a quote the other day that said “you can either be comfortable or courageous but not both at the same time” and I love it!

  41. Carly on September 24, 2014 at 1:24 pm

My current favourite cookbook is the Oh She Glows one! Love it!

  42. Angelle on September 24, 2014 at 1:24 pm

  43. Katie C. on September 24, 2014 at 1:25 pm

I love all of my cookbooks but a current favorite is the Pioneer Woman’s cookbook!

  44. Marissa on September 24, 2014 at 1:31 pm

For a while I was just finding recipes online, making them, and then losing them, and I felt like I didn’t have a repertoire of my own. So recently I’ve been making an effort to make things out of the cookbooks I own, so I know I’ll always have access to the recipes. My parents just got me Jamie Deen’s cookbook (Paula Deen’s son) for my birthday. I plan to make eggplant rigatoni from there tonight!

  45. Anna on September 24, 2014 at 1:33 pm

I’d have to say, Gluten free on a Shoestring, Nicole Hunn’s series of cookbooks. I’ve been celiac for 13 years now, and following her cookbooks have given me the courage and inspiration to finally branch out and make my own yummy gluten free goodies!

  46. Carrie G on September 24, 2014 at 1:33 pm

My favorite cookbook is one I received a couple days ago. 100 Days of Real Food by Lisa Leake has nutritious recipes that are perfect for busy moms and hungry kiddos!

  47. Jackie K on September 24, 2014 at 1:34 pm

Something that inspires is shopping flea market/garage sales. I love seeing all of the possibilities just sitting waiting for me to bring them home. Unfortunately, with two babies to take care of right now, most of my projects are collecting dust.

  48. Erika S. on September 24, 2014 at 1:41 pm

Over the past 2 years I’ve been inspired to make some of my favorite recipes and swap out some ingredients for healthier options. Some have been duds while others have been fabulous. It’s nice to let my creative juices flow when thinking about how to “remix” a recipe. Taste testing is the best part!

  49. Abby on September 24, 2014 at 1:48 pm

I love Giada’s Feel Good Food lately!

  50. Hannah on September 24, 2014 at 1:51 pm

I’ve been loving Oh She Glow’s cook book ever since it was released last March! So many good recipes, especially the enchiladas and the Glo Bars. I basically make one batch a week!

I can’t wait to try Tina’s book as well – I need some more creative ideas for smoothies ๐Ÿ™‚
