Blogger friends’ books

Tea 1 of 1 3

Hey! Howโ€™s the morning going? Hope youโ€™re having a great one so far <3 I just finished up a morning stretch, an awesome breakfast, and am ready to enjoy the dayโ€™s adventures.

I feel inspired with recipes lately. Itโ€™s certainly a mixture of a few things: the fall produce (gimme ALL THE SQUASHES), enjoying new dishes, and the fact that Iโ€™ve had a couple of awesome new cookbooks to enjoy. New cookbooks always help me to think outside of my usual habits, and they’re an enjoyable way to take down time when youโ€™ve been working on creating your own recipes. Itโ€™s comforting to breeze through a recipe knowing that someone else has carefully tested it for you. My two latest faves are even better because they were written by very good friends.

The first one is this PTV: The Part-time Vegetarian Smoothies and Juices, which was written by Tina

PTV 1 of 1

Iโ€™ve had the pleasure of hanging out with Tina quite a few times, and sheโ€™s become one of my closest blogging buddies. (I still havenโ€™t met Murphy though, and am borderline obsessed with that pug cuteness.) Tina is also a new mama, a CrossFitter, and writes an awesome blog if you havenโ€™t checked it out.

With tina 1 of 1

To write this book, she had to create and test over 140 smoothie recipes in two months (!!!!). When I received my copy, I was amazed by how beautifully it came together. Not only are the recipes incredibly creative (so fresh and vibrant!), but the full-page color photos are gorgeous. There are so many awesome smoothie and juice combos in here, and itโ€™s really encouraged me to step out of the usual rotation. I tend to make the same smoothies and juices over and over, and for the past few weeks, Iโ€™ve been using quite a few of Tinaโ€™s amazing recipes.

Another cookbook that I was particularly excited about: Seriously Delish by Jessica.

Seriously delish 1 of 1

Ok, so Iโ€™ve never met Jess in real life (sad face), but weโ€™ve been blog friends since the early days. Iโ€™m also convinced that sheโ€™s the Pilotโ€™s dream wife. I read him some of the titles of her blog post recipes, and he walked to the kitchen to get a bowl of cereal with a trail of drool on the floor behind him. Needless to say, her recipes always go well in our household ๐Ÿ˜‰ In pure Jess fashion, the cookbook pages are filled with beautiful photos and unique recipes. Thereโ€™s a beautiful mix of indulgent and healthy options; I love that everything is made from scratch.

Chewy granola bars 1 of 1

A huge hit: these chewy granola bars. Theyโ€™re a medley of oats, pumpkin seeds, flax, sunflower seeds, chia, honey…

and for her first bar, Liv was walking around the house saying โ€œMmmmm. Mmmm! Mmm. Mmmm!”

Hereโ€™s the thing: the PR reps sent me copies of these cookbooks, and I had already ordered both on Amazon. So, Iโ€™d love to give them to one of you! Just leave a comment below with something thatโ€™s inspiring to you, or your favorite cookbook ever, and Iโ€™ll pick a winner this Thursday midnight EST. Iโ€™ll send both of these cookbooks to the winner, along with whatever goodies find their way into the box ๐Ÿ˜‰

xoxo

My current favourite cookbook is Against All Grain – Meals Made Simple by Danielle Walker.
Currently inspiring me (but totally unrelated to food)? CrossFit Games footage. I have a local competition next weekend but I’m lacking training motivation at the moment. Watching the fittest people on earth helps!

I am really enjoying the Oh She Glows cookbook at the moment. So many winners in there!

As a BC native now living just on the other side of the Rockies in Alberta, the pictures you posted in your last post are inspiring to me in that they really make me love my home and want to get out hiking again soon. We are heading to Banff for Thanksgiving and I can’t wait to get back into the mountains! I consider myself very lucky to live in such a beautiful place ๐Ÿ™‚

I brought back an amazing cookbook from New Orleans, when I was there for Mardi Gras this year. The city I live in (Winnipeg) gets super cold in the winter, so cooking some Cajun recipes reminds me of the awesome, warm time I had there!

My favorite cookbook ever is Vegnomicon!

I am super inspired by all of my fitness/food/lifestyle bloggers, Jessica being top 3! Her blog inspired me to start my blog in 2010 and my love for writing and recipes grew even more! I met her at foodbuzz fest my first year of blogging and was starstruck but she gave me the best advice ever: be yourself, don’t ever chance your writing style because something is “popular” at the moment. ๐Ÿ™‚

My favorite cookbook ever is Mark Bittman’s How To Cook Everything. It’s how I taught myself to cook in college. Current favorite is The Feed Zone, a really great cookbook for endurance athletes. It has really tasty, healthy, economical, and relatively simple recipes. My boyfriend’s favorite recipes I make come from that book.
Trader Joe’s is what’s inspiring me today…to start hoarding pumpkin products. ๐Ÿ™‚
I’ve been wanting both those cookbooks you got!

One of my all-time fave cookbooks is the Newlywed Cookbook. It’s more toward the indulgent side than my day-to-day eats, but all from-scratch, seasonally focused and fun recipes to make with your numero uno. Great picks for weeknight suppers, brunches with friends and romantic date night dinners!

  43. Brenda Garcia on September 24, 2014 at 11:25 pm

My favorite cookbooks are the ones compiled by America’s test kitchen! I love that they explain the science behind recipes, must be the nerd in me ๐Ÿ™‚ but every single recipe I have tried is amazing! And they even give u great tips on how to prep food, love it. That being said I don’t think they have a smoothie book so this one would be an awesome addition to my little growing collection!
