Bombtastic

Hey! How’s your first day of Summer going? Any fun vacays planned?

After blogging about the protein lovechild this morning, I *needed* a chocolate cherry bomb smoothie in my life 🙂choc cherry

And then went to pump some crazy iron.

Post workout Protein + carbs

egg

Millet and a 2-egg white puff.

I trained a client, then went to Bizzle to put on my productivity hat 😉

While I was there, I couldn’t help but notice people striking up random conversations and it made me think about how I’ve become more of an introvert. When I was younger, up until I graduated high school, I was 100% extrovert. I thrived on having people around me and would tell my life story to anyone who would listen. I used to sing and act and performed in musicals.

While I was in college, I was still friendly but became a little bit more introverted because I was so focused on school. I didn’t show others my true goofy side until I really got to know them. My friends all know that I’m a goofball, but sometimes strangers view me as *quiet* which is kind of humorous.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert??

After I left Starbucks, I had to stop at Main Squeeze for a juice since it’s on the way home 😉

juice

A supergreen juice with no celery, extra spinach and 1/2 t spirulina that I added at the casa.

Perfection.

Lunch was one of my favorite salad beasts:

beast

Greens, spiralized beet, grape tomatoes, raw goat cheddar,Garlic Gold sea salt, oregano, basil and drizzled with this new Meyer Lemon vinaigrette from Garlic Gold.

beast (2)

This stuff was outta control.

garlic gold

The lemon flavor was fragrant and sweet– the perfect compliment to the seasonings and garlic. A bonus: it’s vinegar-free for those who have digestive issues with vinegar. It’s only available in OpenSky –not in stores- so I’ll be adding it to my shop later today.

The plan for the rest of the day is to work for a while, train a client and do some cardio.

Hope you have a fabulous Monday <3

xoxo,

Gina

I am definitely an extrovert. Occasionally I have introvert tendencies, but usually am an extrovert!

  2. Nicci on June 21, 2010 at 3:39 pm

Can’t wait to see how to make ”a meal out of a smoothie.” I love my morning smoothies.

  3. Jenn (eating bender) on June 21, 2010 at 3:41 pm

I’m the same as you, lady! Strangers always comment on how quiet I am, but anyone who knows me personally knows that I am anything but 🙂 Just ask Bobby – he can never get me to shut up!

Still haven’t tried Garlic Gold but it definitely sounds amazing! I will have to check it out.

I loved that Mean Girls post. I was nodding my head yes in agreement for almost all of it!

  4. Brittany on June 21, 2010 at 3:41 pm

I think I’m a mix of both – it just depends on the situation and the company.

And, OMG- the protein lovechild is calling my name!!

  5. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on June 21, 2010 at 3:43 pm

I am totally an extrovert. I think I actually was more of an introvert when I was younger. [For me] I think self-confidence has a lot to do with it. In HS I was always worrying what everyone thought about me, closely watching my weight, and would never go outside without make-up. Not sure what’s changed but I just don’t care about that stuff anymore, and I guess that’s made me more confident and become more of an extrovert.

OK enough rambling haha, looking forward to your smoothie post! 🙂

  6. Carrie on June 21, 2010 at 3:44 pm

More of an introvert I think. I can seem like an extrovert in groups, but usually I don’t want to be in the group to begin with. I <3 one on one.

  7. Therese on June 21, 2010 at 3:45 pm

I’m an introvert. I’m less of one now than when I was younger due to my work experiences (reception, teacher, customer service rep) but I’m still an introvert around normal, non-work related folk. I open up when I get to know people but mostly I’m a pretty quiet person!

I’ve been craving a spinach smoothie all day and you’ve just intensified it!!! I’m going straight home after work to make one! I can’t seem to go through a day without one anymore!

  8. Heather (Heather's Dish) on June 21, 2010 at 3:46 pm

all i really want in life right now is a smoothie! can’t wait to read your take on it soon!

  9. Mandy on June 21, 2010 at 3:46 pm

I am definitely more of an introvert now… I used to be an extrovert! I used to sing alllll the time – was always performing out somewhere… even moved to Nashville to “become a singer”… and got there, saw what the industry is REALLY like and backed off… and now I am terrified to touch a microphone – let alone start a conversation with someone 🙂

  10. Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete on June 21, 2010 at 3:49 pm

It definitely depends… Did I have a lot to drink? I might tell you my life story then. haha. Most of the time, I’m a combination of the two. I pick and choose when to be outgoing or not.

  11. Marilou @ Mostly Healthy on June 21, 2010 at 3:51 pm

Introversion/Extraversion comes from where you get your energy. Even though I’m a real social person who talk to everyone and loves to get to know others, I consider myself as an Introvert since I gather my strenght back when I’m by myself. I trust way more my instinct too then people’s advice

  12. Mary on June 21, 2010 at 3:52 pm

I am definitely the same way. I went through highschool being an extrovert, and participated in drama club and talked to anyone and everyone. I ended up getting hurt a lot because I put myself out there all of the time, so in college I reamined focused and became kind of an introvert, and really only my friends know my true goofy self.

  13. Shelly on June 21, 2010 at 3:53 pm

I’m an introvert. I can be very talkative and personable with people I know, so I used to feel kind of strange saying that I’m an introvert until I read an alternate definition of introvert versus extrovert- it’s what energizes you. I feel exhausted when I have to go out and talk to people (even people I like) and only really recharge when I can spend some time at home by myself. My mom, on the other hand, is a huge extrovert and often talks about how exhausting the days she has to spend at home are. She doesn’t feel energized unless she spends some time outside of the home with her friends.

  14. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on June 21, 2010 at 3:58 pm

I’m an extrovert, most of the time – I typically get my energy from other people and being alone too long seriously freaks me out! But, I have some introverted tendencies as well, and tend to get shy around people I don’t know. College didn’t really change my personality, as I was a journalism major and part of that means going out and talking to random people allll the time! Sometimes I hated it, but it helped me get over some of my insecurities. People usually aren’t so bad. 🙂

  15. s on June 21, 2010 at 3:59 pm

i’m also a bit of both depending on the situation. i’m not very talkative in the workplace since i’m usually trying to get stuff done (and i work with people i would consider hardcore extroverts). it seems a little odd having different work/home personas, but i guess i’ve been going with it.

  16. Katheryn on June 21, 2010 at 4:10 pm

I was definitely an extrovert growing up all through high school. Like you, in college I started becoming more of an introvert. Now at 29, I’m definitely an introvert. I’m funny and crazy around my family and super close friends, but it now takes me a long time to open up that side of me to other people. Funny.

  17. Karen on June 21, 2010 at 4:10 pm

I am definitely an introverted extrovert. Shy or reserved around new people but kooky and outgoing around my friends or people I know fairly well. I take a while to warm up to new people. Must be something psychological 🙂

  18. jamie on June 21, 2010 at 4:11 pm

do you spiralize your beets raw?

  19. katelyn on June 21, 2010 at 4:29 pm

Thank you so much for the article on knees- I have torn my ACL three times and have now decided to live with a torn ACL rather than have more surgery. Any info on knees is always welcome, thank you!

  20. Julie @ Pickley Pear on June 21, 2010 at 4:39 pm

Your salads are the best! I am an introvert. Some people would say I am quiet, but I’m really not. I tend to work better by myself, though I love being around others. Sometimes introverts are confused with shy and stand-off-ish. Not me at all, I just don’t care to be the center of attention and love my ‘me’ time.

  21. Allie (Live Laugh Eat) on June 21, 2010 at 4:46 pm

I pretty much have an identical intro–>extro story. Totally bouncing of the walls/total goof until I got to college. I finally graduated and hoping that little bit of my loosey goosey side comes out again.

  22. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on June 21, 2010 at 4:53 pm

Growing up I was an introvert, but when I was at my all girls’ middle/high school, a goofy, friendly, crazy side of me came out and I became much more of a people person. All that went away again during my ED, and while it hasn’t really come back yet, I’m much more social since my recovery. I’m nuts around people I know well, but I’m shy in social situations and often can come off as aloof :/

  23. Lauren on June 21, 2010 at 4:53 pm

I am totally an introvert. And it takes a lot to break out of my shell. I wish I was more of an extrovert, and sometimes I have to force myself to be, but it’s just not who I am.

  24. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on June 21, 2010 at 4:55 pm

I’m a total introvert, but I always have been. I’m just lucky I married an extrovert who can do all of the talking when I meet new people. I need a warm-up period before I”m comfortable enough to be myself.

    • Fitnessista on June 21, 2010 at 5:14 pm

i’m the same way- the pilot is 100% extrovert and can make small talk and charm anyone

  26. Danielle (Runs on Green) on June 21, 2010 at 5:03 pm

I’m def. an introvert. I like “me time” but I also can get goofy/crazy with people that get to know me!

  27. Hotchick on June 21, 2010 at 5:04 pm

I never strike up conversations w/strangers. I know it’s easy for other ppl (because I see it a lot), but it’s just not me. I do wish I would feel comfortable doing that, I think life would be more interesting.

  28. Anne on June 21, 2010 at 5:11 pm

I have been reading your blog for a while now, and I have a question: What the heck is Bizzle? I often get tripped up with some of the more unfamiliar words that you use, such as Publizzle, casa, and a few others, but I usually figure out what they mean, more or less. But Bizzle has me totally stumped – please help me!

p.s. I am somewhere between extrovert and introvert, and I am fine with that 🙂

    • Fitnessista on June 21, 2010 at 5:13 pm

      bizzle = starbucks 🙂

      • Anne on June 21, 2010 at 5:25 pm

Interesting…..but what is the connection? Do you work at Starbucks so it’s like saying ‘business’? Hehe sorry if I sound mean, I just like to know the why’s of things 🙂

        • Fitnessista on June 21, 2010 at 5:43 pm

i take my computer to starbucks and do all of my computer work stuff while i’m there

  29. Hilary@coffeeismycarrot on June 21, 2010 at 5:31 pm

I just recently found out I’m an introvert while I always assumed I was an extrovert. I can talk to anyone about anything at anytime and am in sales so that comes in handy. However, I like to be alone (in fact I need alone time), I am more likely to have a small group of close friends than a big group, I am slightly uncomfortable in large groups or parties and am happier with a small group when in social settings, etc.

3 hours after i did Summer Shape up Day one arms work out and i am DYING!!! any tips to be less sore?????

    • Fitnessista on June 21, 2010 at 5:42 pm

yes- stretch and lift lighter weights next time, or do less sets until your body gets more used to it.
make sure to drink lots of water, too

  31. Alison on June 21, 2010 at 5:48 pm

I’m an introvert. I’m friendly and can talk to anyone, but at the end of the day I NEED to be alone to recharge. I crave alone time like I crave chocolate.

  32. Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches on June 21, 2010 at 6:11 pm

I’m definitely an introvert at heart, but I’ve become more extroverted over the past few years as I’ve grown more confident in who I am. I too take a bit of time for people to see my goofy side, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing at all. I like people with a sense of mystery about them!

  33. Karyn on June 21, 2010 at 6:14 pm

i’m like you and have both qualities. i’m such an introvert until i get to know people better and then i can’t keep my mouth shut haha

  34. Katherine on June 21, 2010 at 6:15 pm

I’m trying to get my extroverted self back! I’ve become a total introvert/homebody/hermit since going to school ah help.

  35. Samantha on June 21, 2010 at 6:25 pm

Those Chocolate Cherry Bombs are something to behold! I do mine w/o banana, too many fruit sugars in one shot, but I LOVE them!

Fun summer plans? Just be a family. The husband came home after an almost 6 month TDY this weekend and only has a month and change before leaving again. Hiking, beach time (getting a SUP this week), movies, anything that sounds fun.

Like you, I used to be a big extrovert but the Navy Wife world has shoved me back into a shell. Most of the time I like it that way. Especially in light of certain things. But being social isn’t always bad.

    • Fitnessista on June 21, 2010 at 7:17 pm

i was wondering if the military thing has made me more of an extrovert, too. could definitely be the case- even when you hang out with friends often, you’re alone a lot of the time
so glad your hubby is home for a little while <3

  37. Anna on June 21, 2010 at 6:34 pm

I’m definitely on the introverted side, but that doesn’t mean I don’t need people around. I thrive on a healthy balance of socializing and alone time- when I’ve had enough socializing, I need to be able to go off and do my own thing.

  38. Naomi on June 21, 2010 at 7:29 pm

I loved the last article “Do you record life or live it?” I had those same thoughts about a month ago while we were on vacation in Jamaica. I was so obsessed with taking pictures of EVERYTHING, that I totally missed out on taking in the full experience. From now on, I’m going to use my camera with a little more discretion!

  40. Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! on June 21, 2010 at 7:33 pm

I am an introvert fo’ sho’! I need alone time to recharge. That said, I feel like I am becoming a bit more extroverted, in that I’m not as shy and making small talk no longer feels like such a challenge. I used to dread small talk, just DREAD it! Now I just start by talking about the weather and it seems to evolve from there 🙂

That pile of shredded raw goat cheese on your salad should come with a warning! “Warning: picture of goat cheese may create overwhelming feelings of hunger and spontaneous salivation” 🙂

  41. Cara on June 21, 2010 at 7:49 pm

I am most definitely an introvert..my hubbie gets mad at me sometimes because of it…I’m not always the best communicator 🙂

I am super pumped for the summer…my summer trip plans include a motorcycle trip around Japan. Should be pretty out of this world!

  42. Vickie on June 21, 2010 at 7:51 pm

Well, I’m definitely an introvert. I have a hard time socializing with people. I’m always worried what they are thinking of me or if I’m saying something stupid. Its horrible. Luckily, I’m married to an extrovert. He’s the one that talks to the neighbors or makes friends with people when we are out. I’m a homebody type person. I do go out and have friends, but its sometimes a struggle. I’d rather stay home. Weird huh? I think it was the mean girls from high school that dampened my desire. Oh well. :o)

  43. Whitney@Whitinspired on June 21, 2010 at 8:10 pm

I’d say I’m a combination of the two. I’m introverted until you get to know me. And then you can’t get me to shut up.

  44. Gracie @ Girl Meets Health on June 21, 2010 at 8:12 pm

I know this sounds crazy (literally?, but I go back and forth from being extremely extroverted to introverted. It really all depends on the mood I’m in. When I’m nervous about something (like starting a new job, for instance) I become more introverted. But when I’m randomly out somewhere around other people, I’ll strike up a conversation with just about anyone. I’m also very extroverted when it comes to meeting blog friends 😀

Today, I am more of an introvert…actually very much an introvert…so used to letting other people do all the talking, I work with clients all day as a “trainer-therapist”…so I guess I have got used to being a listener..and like to keep to myself when I’m in public.

Anyhoo….what is drizzled on top of the tasty egg puff?????

Babycakes!! i want to go to there:)

  50. BridgetP on June 21, 2010 at 10:14 pm

I’ve had a pretty similar history as extrovert to introvert. I was super shy until I was about 10, then I was more of an extrovert all through school and seem to have become more introverted over the last few years. I feel like I need more of a warm-up period these days and I even get a little nervous when I am in a situation with lots of new people. I try to take deep breaths, smile, and channel my mom (the kind of extrovert who makes BFFs everywhere she goes) to get up the courage to be friendly right from the start!
