Both sides of the spectrum (+ a giveaway!)- ENDED!

My oven has seen both sides of the spectrum today.

Tomatoes

When I was home for my lunch break, my brothers were here hanging out with the Pilot and Oliv, and Kyle asked me if I’d help him make something for a Bacon Party he was headed to tonight with Meg. (For anyone lacking theme ideas for a holiday party, you’re welcome. Haha) Kyle always helps me with random errands/tragedies/life, so I knew I could help a bro out. The thing is, I don’t really speak bacon.

Bacon cookies

I like the turkey variety ok, but it’s just not really my thing. He knew he wanted to make something sweet, so I knew just where to go. I typed “bacon cookie” into the search bar and whaddaya know? Bacon cookies.. with peanut butter.

Bacon cookies 2

Thank you to Jessica for sponsoring 90% of our holiday desserts thus far 😉

Bacon cookies 3

(We doubled the recipe- that was about 1/3 of the final amount)

We made the bacon cookies, with incoherent stammering and victory dance moves from the happy guys “taste-testing” the candied bacon along the way. Word on the street is those cookies will rock your world (Kyle tried to peer pressure me into tasting one, but I opted out. They smelled divine, though.)

After Meg and Kyle headed to the party, I made some dinner using farm box ingredients that I didn’t want to go bad.

Butternut squash rounds with tomato goat cheese and roasted garlic-balsamic chicken.

Not.too.shabby.

We still haven’t Christmasified anything, but our neighbors are already on it! I’ll never forget the Pilot peering through the garage and swearing when he found out we moved onto Christmas Lane. Bring on the 10 ft inflatable snowman.

I hope you’re all enjoying the weekend so far! It’s been a beautiful and relaxing one.

Me and bell 2

Long run in the morning and then there are some crepes with our names on them….

Have a great night!

xoxo

Giveaway time! My PR friend at Canyon Ranch asked me if I’d like to give away two Canyon Ranch workout DVDs: “Strong and Sculpted”

Canyon Ranch Strong Sculpted product

(three 20-minute segments: yoga, strength and core, bonus segments on bone strengthening and protection, muscle building and foods to reduce inflammation)

and “Yoga for Strength and Energy” (two 20-minute yoga flows, a cool down and bonus features, including eating and sleeping for energy, healthy lifestyle changes).

The DVDs will be amazing additions to a quick and effective at-home workout routine, and here’s the kicker: you know those gluten-free chocolate chip cookies I’m obsessed with? I asked if they’d throw in a batch for the winner and the chef said yes 😉

Sam, who said:

I’d love to win because I need to start working out at home- I’m a med student and life is just too crazy to make it to fitness classes often enough! My major goal would be to wake up early and get my workout done before class, but this night owl does not like 6am!

Congrats, Sam!! Send me your info (fitnessista at gmail dot com) and I’ll forward it along to the Canyon Ranch fairy 🙂

Stay tuned for more amazing giveaways! xoxo

I would love to win because I was recently diagnosed with plantar fasciitis so I’m always looking for ways to change my workouts without a flare up 🙂

  2. Theresa on November 25, 2012 at 12:44 am

I would love to win because I’m at my halfway goal. I lost 25 pounds so far and I’m interested in trying new things so I don’t get bored at the gym.

  3. Kristen on November 25, 2012 at 12:44 am

Well, obviously I want to win so I can eat a few of those cookies then burn them off 😉

In all seriousness, though – with the craziness of the holidays and the freezing cold temps, it gets hard to find the time and motivation to get in a quick workout. I’d love to expand my at home options and get a few more ideas to quick additions to my post-run routine.

  4. Isabel Blake on November 25, 2012 at 12:45 am

I want to win because I need a strong toned & sexy body for summer (New Zealand has summer in Dec/Jan/Feb).

  5. Steph on November 25, 2012 at 12:50 am

I might have to make those bacon cookies for my brother…but I’ll keep the other ones for myself if I win. 😉 I’d love to win because I’m always looking for a new workout, especially anything yoga!

I would love to win because I workout at home, and I would love to add a new DVD to my collection. But also, those cookies are making me salivate 😉

  9. lata on November 25, 2012 at 12:54 am

Haha, I love love love bacon, but its my 2x a year treat. Needless to say I must now attend a bacon themed party —bucket list 😉 These dvds would be an awesome way to jump start those days where I dont feel like heading out into the chilly cold! Thank you!

  10. Kristin on November 25, 2012 at 12:54 am

I’d lo to win so I can try a new workout and those yummy cookies!!

  11. Dynamics on November 25, 2012 at 12:55 am

I would love to win because winter is upon us and I will need something on those rainy days when I cannot get outside. I asked Santa to bring me a new TV/DVD for my exercise room.

  12. Abi on November 25, 2012 at 12:56 am

I would love to switch up my workouts and try something new!

  13. Angela on November 25, 2012 at 12:57 am

This would be perfect for winter (when running in the snow/ice isn’t so fun)! I love trying out new videos 🙂

  14. Glenda on November 25, 2012 at 1:01 am

I would love to win because I love working out and reading your blogs keeps me motivated and inspired! I am currently working on fulfilling my “bucket list” dream of becoming a body step fitness instructor at age 45! I am finding that stretching and building strength is a key element to my success in step and I think these videos would be a great help to me! 🙂

  15. Janice on November 25, 2012 at 1:04 am

Perfect timing! I’d love to win because just today I decided to incorporate a TV/DVD into my basement gym. These DVDs would make a great start to my workout collection and who can’t use more yoga?? The cookies? Um, yeah, I’ll enjoy those too!

  16. Missy on November 25, 2012 at 1:04 am

I would love to win this because I would love some at home options for tips and workouts since
I have been so preoccupied with the house we just bought, our engagement, and all the stress that comes along with it! Need some yoga and “me time” without having to leave the house!

  17. Rorey Risdon on November 25, 2012 at 1:05 am

Oh, those cookies look delicious. Even though I am a vegetarian, bacon gets me every time.

I would love the DVD’s because I live in Tanzania and it is hard to find a good gym here. I do most of my exercising in my air-conditioned bedroom with my computer. It would be great to pick them up at my mom’s this summer when we travel back to the US and have something new to do! Thanks!

  18. Trisha on November 25, 2012 at 1:05 am

At-home workouts are a must sometimes with my busy schedule of school and work. These DVDs look like a great option!

  19. Melanie on November 25, 2012 at 1:06 am

I would love a nice workout DVD for days when my gym is closed/it’s too snowy to get there. I hate missing a workout when I knew I really wanted one!

  21. Rachael on November 25, 2012 at 1:07 am

I would love these DVDs because I’m about to study abroad for a semester in London. I don’t know if I’ll be able to afford paying for a gym while I’m over there so having more “at home” options would be wonderful to have with me so I can stay active on my own (or with some of the other students on my trip) and not get bored as easily. Plus I’m from Arizona so the beautiful AZ scenery would be a a nice bonus.

  22. steph@lungesandlunch on November 25, 2012 at 1:09 am

I’d love to win! As a grad student, my budget doesn’t allow for many yoga classes and GF treats, so it would be tres helpful. 🙂

  23. Sigi on November 25, 2012 at 1:12 am

I haven’t run in 5 weeks due to a stress fracture, and I’m scared to start working out again. What if I’ve lost all my endurance? What if I’ve grown to hate it? What if I push too hard and end up injured again? These DVDs seem like the PERFECT thing to get me back up in the saddle, so to speak, and hey, cookies certainly can’t hurt (and might give me motivation to go for a run!).

  24. Sarah d on November 25, 2012 at 1:14 am

I would love to win because I want to start some at home workouts and this would be a great start!!

  26. Kelsey on November 25, 2012 at 1:16 am

I would love to win because I am looking to try yoga to help with my flexibility! Also, you shouldn’t put giveaway in the title and make it a reward for the readers who make it all the way to the end of the post 🙂 Those bacon cookies sounded DELICIOUS…even though you don’t eat bacon 🙂

  27. Cai on November 25, 2012 at 1:16 am

  31. Clarice on November 25, 2012 at 1:33 am

  35. Priscilla P on November 25, 2012 at 1:49 am

I’ve been getting into the habit of working out again, but I’ve always been more comfortable in a class-like environment (or basically where someone is telling me what to do) – so that’s why I’d love to have those DVDs! I have a gym membership but no car, so these would be great for the times I can’t find a ride ^^

  36. Brittany on November 25, 2012 at 1:49 am

Bacon cookies sound very interesting but I guess I’d have to try one. I’d love to win the DVDs I’ve been slacking on working out this month. I started a second job ad then got very sick for a week. It’s time to restart the healthy living and these would help!

  37. Sam on November 25, 2012 at 1:51 am

I’d love to win because I need to start working out at home- I’m a med student and life is just too crazy to make it to fitness classes often enough! My major goal would be to wake up early and get my workout done before class, but this night owl does not like 6am!

  41. laura on November 25, 2012 at 2:15 am

id love to win one because the winter weather is finally upon us and some days i just cant make it to the gym! these would be great for those sort of days!

  42. Sara Lake on November 25, 2012 at 2:18 am

Heading into summer and this would be the ideal workout for a busy girl like me. I just love the pictures on the front of those DVD’s – they ooze ‘health spa in a hot place’.

  43. Katy on November 25, 2012 at 2:20 am

I would love to win because I’ve been looking for a new way to spice up my workouts. I’ve been doing the same DVDs for years. I run a lot (I recently ran my first half marathon!), but I tend to skip yoga & strength training because I’m sick of the dvds that I have.

  44. Kelster on November 25, 2012 at 2:27 am

I’m currently seeking new workout videos so I’d love to win this! Also, cookies? Yes. Please.

  45. LauraT on November 25, 2012 at 2:34 am

I would love to win these DVD’s! My primary cardio is running and I really need to supplement this with more core, strength training and yoga. It would beer fact to be able to do this at home. Plus I have to admit I would also love to try those yummy cookies!

  48. Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate on November 25, 2012 at 3:01 am

I would love to win these because I have been dying to try out a new yoga/pilates dvd. And you know, I wouldn’t mind gluten-free cookies either ;-).

  49. Alain on November 25, 2012 at 3:06 am

Thanks for holding this wonderful giveaway! A few months ago I made the decision to truly commit to my health and that’s included incorporating a fitness routine that makes me feel my best, and not just because it’s the new “it” thing. Running outdoors has become such a place of peace and joy, however with winter upon us, I’d love the option to be able to exercise at home and I think this would be perfect!

  50. Bek @ Crave on November 25, 2012 at 3:26 am

I think I’d want to win just for the cookies 😉 Haha, love the bacon party idea reminds me of the youtube sensations- Epic Meal Time, they are obsessed with bacon. I reckon the saltiness for the bacon with the sweetness from the cookie dough oh and the pb- sooo amazing!
